I have a Satellite S1800-314 but its slow when I have stuff USB conect as dougle wireless or USB HDD and

I am running Windows XP PRO 2002 SP2
Is there anything I can do to make it faster?

Hello

In your case I would first update the chipset drivers. You can find it on the Toshiba site in * Archives *. In addition, you can update the BIOS too. Maybe this solves the problem with USB devices.
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

There are many things you can do to make Windows XP faster. Search Google for it and you'll find enough.
Here are some examples of how you can do it faster: starting disable programs in msconfig, disable services that you n t need, defragment your disk at any time and so far.

Welcome them

    IS THIS POSSIBLE?

[Edited by: admin on 22 March 05 06:58]

    Hi Jim,.

@RAM: Yes, it is possible to increase the RAM up to 512 MB
The original RAM Toshiba module with 256 MB will fit without problem (PA3069U - 1 M 25).

@HDD: I have no experience with a Sat 1800, but must match to a 60 GB! To play safe, you can ask a Service partner or do it on your own risk on!

@DVD-Writer: I have to disappoint you because the CD player is built in fix! It is only possible to change the disk with a replacement or a DVD/CD-RW Combo drive which is built in the 1800 Sat - 752S!
In this case send you also a Service partner may be that they have a solution for you!

  • Satellite A30 does not start with the USB device connected at boot time

    Hello

I have a Satellite A30 and sometimes it does not start.
After turning on, not even the BIOS starts.
even if sometimes the BIOS starts, but the OS does not load.

I figured out that its related to USB devices connected at boot time.
If no USB devices are connected, it starts without a problem.
Even if the start-up is suspended, as soon as you unplug start it BIOS USB devices.
Its ok to connect USB devices later, once the system has started.
I disabled "removable devices boot" and "network startup."
just in case, but it makes no difference.

BIOS is version the most recent (1.70) and it comes up with all kinds of USB devices.
printer, mouse and (self-powered) external USB hard disk.

    Is this a known issue?
There is no known workaround solution?

    Hello

I put t know why this happens, but it has to do with the BIOS.
The same thing happened on my old laptop. I couldn't start my unit while the USB printer has been turned on and connected.
The only solution is to disconnect the external USB device during the boot process.

RSY you should check if the order of boot in the BIOS has been on the HARD drive first.

Can someone please help me solve this problem. Or can someone tell me if it is a hardware problem that can't be solved by returning the laptop for Toshiba?

    Hello

You must update the BIOS again! There is a new version 5.20 !

This should fix any problems that may occur after the update to version 5.10 of Bios.

    Hello
I used USB devices with my M30X-125 during a few months and noticed that as soon as I connect a USB mouse or printer with external power supply power supply cooling fan works very often. With no device USB cooling fan is very "calm".
I've updated the BIOS with the latest 1.90 out and changed its settings (reduce the processor speed) of the effect of Utility. No of power on this fan cooling issue management.
Can you help me please in order to limit the work with the connected USB device cooling fan?

    Hello Phil

I put t really believe that there are many options to do better. Of course if you use a USB device, the CPU usage goes over the limit of use and produce more heat.

Try to check all the processes running and finish a useless manually.

  • ProBook 4740 s will not feed if USB devices are connected

G ' Day, I have a ProBook s 4740 and after taking the laptop to the site, when I'm home and plugged things back, by pressing the power button would see it for a few seconds and then od light out. The LED above the power would have flashes once and then turns off. Needless to say, it would not start up.

After a lot of frustration, I found that by unplugging all (wired Ethernet and USB devices) and by pressing the power button it would start up and even when starting I could plug the devices and everything is OK.

I had to return to the site today and when I came back again, it wouldn't power up until I unplugged the USB devices. USB devices are external hard drives only, all running through a powered USB hub.

This configuration has worked without any problems for wells in the year I've had the ProBook.

    This could be the cause?

    Thank you.

    The last update :-)

After downloading the BIOS update, I decided to wait until I had a break in things until I applied it. Then around one hour before, I saw the red exclamation mark on the HP Support Assistant in the taskbar. Open it, there was an update of the available BIOS, so I decided to let him do. At this point, no indication that it was the F.60 update.

I hate doing these updates that work at the machine code level where if things go wrong, they can go horribly wrong.

Well, everything went well. Updated the BIOS and restart the computer. I went back in to the support assistant and got the information on the computer, and he says that it is now the F.60 version. If she went from F.43 to F.60

I power it off, wait a minute, then restarted with everything plugged in and it worked correctly.

    Thanks again for your help.

  • Windows crashes when any USB device is connected

    Hello

I have a laptop Dell Latitude D505 with Windows XP. Recently, whenever I plugged in a USB device, Windows would freeze and I have to hold the power button down to turn it off.  Since then, I tried to replace the RAM, re - install Windows on a new HARD drive and taking the other components (Wi - Fi, CD). I still don't understand why it freezes. Any ideas?
    Thank you very much!

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to your computer, after which the issue started?
    2. have you tried to connect USB devices to a different USB port? If so, they work on other ports?
    3. have you tested the USB devices on another computer?

Uninstall and reinstall the usb host controller driver and check if the problem persists.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/283658

I would recommend that you update your BIOS and drivers from the chipset and check if the problem persists.

  • Computer do not normally sleep wake up and the computer hang when external USB devices are connected

    Hello

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit desktop CyberPowerPC, and there are currently two problems with it:

1.), I have two USB ports in the front of my case. I am connected to my computer. Then I tried to connect my external hard drive using the USB cable supplied with it, but just at the moment where the end of the USB cable touched the port, the screen is black and automatically rebooted and froze when the display shows the brand CPU that is before the login screen. I actually press the restart on my case button to restart the computer with the hard drive already plugged. Then everything should work normally.

It's the same thing when I tried to connect my iTouch 2nd generation.

This problem occurs sometimes, however, but I wonder if someone always has a solution to this?

2.) whenever I put the computer to sleep and he remains asleep for a while and I turn it on it once again, powers for about 2 seconds then it turns off. I have to turn the power supply and light in the order so he could get out of mode 'sleep'.

I was wondering if you have solutions to this problem, as well.

    Thank you.

Original title: new Windows 7 problem

    Ok.. I'll try again...

The problem is caused by a bad 'ground' between the USB ports of the case and the motherboard. Static electricity is originally the USB device to short on the USB port which is originally the motherboard restart mode.

I had the same problem and got my computer case exchanged. The problem has not entirely disappeared, and I use the USB port on the front on the card reader, just in case.

It can also be a problem with the power supply or even the motherboard. It is very difficult to locate the failure without replacing in turn, a process that happens to be a bit expensive.

The above is the reason why I recommend that you contact the MANUFACTURER. Don't take no for an answer off the manufacturer or supplier. It is a problem annoying which can eventually damage your operating system if it is enough...

  • Can I delay the prompt to begin to allow the USB device to connect in time?

    Hello

I use a guest linux 2.6 on the host of windows 7 that is running a GPS Simulator she starts and sends the GPS signal on a USB port. However, it seems to begin quickly on the USB be detected. If I stop and restart the Simulator after than the VM has started, it works fine.

So I was wondering if I can delay the start of the virtual machine so it has time to detect the USB device first.

    Thank you

    Hi TracMap,

    Welcome to the forums.

You can add a delay of starting your virtual machine. Manually change the configuration of your VM's VMX file and add a new line with:

    -bios.bootDelay = "xxxx".

'xxxx' is in millisecond. During this period, the virtual machine will stay on the screen of the BIOS in waiting for an entry and then start normally.

I hope it will work for you!

    Good luck.

  • Satellite L450D not start - think usb device is connected

Hello. I have a portable satellite L450D running Windows 7, which will not start. It gets to the loading of the windows with the windows logo page, but it will not go beyond this point.

I tried repairing the system, and that tells me that a device is always connected to the laptop. I think it's maybe my phone, I had connected by usb last week. The usb cable is removed physically but the laptop obviously thinks that it is still connected.

I'm passed through different service options - system repair, System Restore, restore the last good config, boot into safe mode but nothing seems to work.

Ive tried to connect the phone while the laptop is trying to start and then disconnect it but still no luck. The laptop still think that the phone is connected.

Ive not tridd remove the battery from the laptop, as it's apparently quite difficult.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance

    Hello

I would recommend you check the boot order in the BIOS.
Go to the BIOS by pressing F2 by turning on the device.
Now, press F9 to get the default settings and save the changes press F10.
Also check if you can disable the legacy USB if it s is not available, ignore this tip.
Now, restart the laptop and test if it would boot from the HARD drive.

  • Satellite L50 - B suddenly does not recognize USB devices

Suddenly my laptop does not recognize any USB.

The USB key or external hard drive works on other computers, but not on my laptop.
    Only cards SD-are recognized.

I tried to remove the usb portals on the Control Panel, but after I restarted my computer all returned.
One reappear with a caveat that it does not work, but when I search a new program to run it, it can not be found. After removing it, it comes back with the same caveat.

I also tried to download the new discs (chip set utility) but who doesn't either.
I don't know what else to do.

Can someone help me if I can access my USB-products once again on my laptop?

    Hello

What about the USB mouse? You can use the USB mouse connected to one of the USB ports?

Have you changed the system or you have installed new OS on this laptop?
    I m asking because the L50 - B Satellite supports USB 2.0 as well USB 3.0 ports

In the case where you have installed the new OS (Win 7?) on this laptop, the USB 3.0 ports would require additional USB 3.0 driver

However, in case that you are always using the OS preinstalled Toshiba, I recommend you to reset the initial setup and test the USB ports once more.

  • Satellite L40-139 can boot from a USB device?

    Hello

I have a new L40-139. Looking through the BIOS I can't find an option to boot from a device USB like a USB HDD or USB flash drive. Could someone confirm if the L40-139 can boot from USB and is thus the configuration of the BIOS for this.

If she can not someone knows if there are plans for a BIOS update that would allow this?

I must admit that, although I love the L40, I am disappointed how to limit the BIOS is.

    Thank you

    Hello

I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I know, you cannot use USB HDD as first boot device. USB floppy Yes, but with external HARD disk drive, it won't work.

  • Satellite P100-429: sharp sound appears when 3rd device is connected

I have a satellite P100-429 with a Conexant internal sound card.
My problem is when I attach to any other electric audio device to record or play to, a high-pitched noise can be heard on the two pieces of equipment.

When the power of the laptop is removed and it works on battery power, only the noise disappears as soon as the power is reconnected the noise returns

I checked the section driver Toshiba and there is an available (V3.11.0.51) driver update that resolves this problem.
Note: Before installing the audio driver updated to at least the BIOS version 2.10 or higher must be installed on the laptop.

How to install the Sound Driver (V3.0.51):
    1. download the driver from the website.
    2 unzip the file.
    3. double-click on the "setup.exe."
Shortly after, the following window appears:
    4. click on 'OK '.
    5. click on 'OK '.
    The audio driver is installed

Be careful with the update of the BIOS. Choose the good BIOS and the right update procedure
