Satellite S2450-101 HDD Upgrade

Hi all

Not so much a problem, more of a question.

I want to spend my Satellite S2450-101 of 30 GB hard drive
something like 60 or 80 GB or more.
I would like to know what makes it + models of hard drive will work?

A BIOS upgrade will be necessary?
(I've not updated the BIOS in the two years I've owned it).

Does anyone have experience of this, they would be willing to share? I am running XP, btw.

Thanks in advance,
Geoff.

Hello Geoff

Unfortunately there is no public document on this subject. On this forum, you can find many discussions on the same or similar topic. Before someone can give you some advice, you can consult the forum by using the advanced search option.

By the way. If you want to be sure we can be used on your mobile contact service partner or some HARD drive supplier. On the net, you can find a lot of them. If you use a high-capacity HARD drive, it can happen that the drive will not be recognized by the BIOS. Before you buy one picking up the good info.

    Hello

I think EPA should be able to help you.
As far as I know Windows XP Home recovery CD Toshiba already contains the Win XP SP1 and so it should be possible to order.
So contact the ASP guy in your country and try to buy it from them.

By the way; You can also install a clean Win XP and then all drivers Toshiba which are released into the Toshiba page. You should find the drivers in the field of ARCHIVES.

  • Satellite Pro M10 HDD Upgrade - how will work?

    Hello

I have a question I have a Satellite Pro M10 (PS630E-G207W-GR) and I want to change the hard drive to a 120 GB + HARD drive so I called the Supporthotline because I need the Windows CD and they mean that would work with a new HARD drive, because the Bios does not the new HARD drive, and he was not told why. Now the question is, if it works with an update of the bios, or if maybe there is already a person here with a working 100 GB + HDD from the laptop.

and sorry for my very bad English

    Hello

If you are not satisfied with the answers provided by the support, you can also try to communicate with several independent services for hardware upgrade. As far as I know, they are able to manipulate the BIOS to work with hard disks are not supported. Maybe this solution is for you.

At least on this forum, you can find topics where users of laptops repost on an improvement of HARD drive (more than 100 GB) successfully with older models as your M10. You can order 120 GB of HARD drive and try to use it. If this does not work you can send it back. To do this, you have about 14 days. Test it!

  • Satellite Pro A10 HDD upgrades

Deploy a satellite pro a10. To upgrade HDD 2181 30 GB to a bigger drive, but don't know which drives are supported. Have founf Toshiba HDD 2188 80 GB which could do the job, but the Interface is different. His ATA - 6 rather than ATA - 5 on the old disk. Would this work? or if anyone knows of a reader that works id good to know

    Thank you very much

    Hello

As far as I know that the Sat Pro A10 has been delivered with 3 different drives - 20 GB, 30 GB, 40 GB.
In my opinion the 40 GB is a maximum size of HARD drive support. It is possible that the BIOS could not acknowledge more large drives.

    I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE 1800-S274 P III 1.1 G 512 MB with XP PRO Spanish

    Part c: PS183U-00JRSPNC Serial Nr: 32014957PU
The keyboard and the OS is Spanish.

The HARD drive was accident, restart the PC, with a blue windows with the error text impossible to read because it quickly restart again.
Cannot access the HARD disk also with other means or connected to another PC boot disk.

PROBLEM 1) what type of disk HARD can I put up what capacity?
(the original HARD drive is MK2018GAP. Capacity 20 GB 4200 RPM ATA4)
I read on the net that is perhaps the BIOS accept more than 60 GB or HDD companies other than Toshiba. Is this true?

In my country, the best ratio price/GB is a 80 or 120 GB 5400 RPM also label of Toshiba.
    I put these?

Here is a best value of HARD drive:
    Toshiba 40 GB 5400 RPM UDMA100 (MK4032GAX)
    Toshiba 60 GB 5400 RPM UDMA100 (MK6034GAX)

PROBLEM 2) I can not find my installation CD of Spanish XPpro but my laptop has a certificate of authenticity Microsoft of OEM.
I contacted Microsoft, they say I have to ask the builder OEM installation with a CD XPpro OEM but there not sure they give me this.
I don't want to buy a new OS, and I can't restore it because the HARD disk is damaged.

How can install OS on the new HARD drive?

My laptop its 6 years if I have to buy the HARD drive and OS XPpro is not a good deal.
Maybe I can try to install an old Win 2000 pro I have. Do you think that it work on my type of laptop? And readers are available for my type of laptop?

Thanks a lot for your help

I also believe that you can use the 60 GB HARD drive for this oldie.

Please don't be crazy about me, but how you want to install the operating system if you don't want to buy the CD of facilities? If someone give you something for free or what. You can try to order the original recovery media, but in my opinion, it is not in stock, or you can buy the CD of original Microsoft facilities. If you check eBay you can find a used one and have it for little money.

    Hello.

I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro 4600 a 20 GB hard drive to a 60 gig.
Only, I get a blank screen.
When I go back my 20 original concert, it works well.
Y at - it a special procedure for the Assembly of the larger disks?

The BIOS recognizes the HARD drive correctly?

Perhaps the size of the HARD drive is too big and so you have a few problems with the laptop.

The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported and the BIOS recognizes all drives, if the size is too large. Therefore, you should try a smaller HARD drive

I'm looking in the upgrade of my HDD, i.e. with the P100-286 Fujitsu MHV2200BT. I would like to find a disk with a RPM faster and perhaps a slightly greater capacity also.

I found the information on the MHV2200BT and see that there is a box slightly larger than most portable 2.5 "HDD. SA is 12.5 mm height, rather than the usual 9.5 mm.

This will make unfit to buy another HARD drive?
I need to find another housing or casing for HARD drive?

Here are the stats on the current model... http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/computing/storage/hdd/mobile/mhv2200bt-sata.html

    Hello

Hmm the old HDD is 12.5 mm and the new is 9.5mmm
Well I put t exactly how the HARD drive has been mounted in the P100 of boyfriend but in many cases, the HARD drive is placed in the media (media).

If the new HARD drive would mingle not with this support.

But why you put take t a 12.5 mm HARD drive? There are a lot of 2.5, 12.5 mm, SATA hard drive that would be 100% compatible with your laptop!

I need to upgrade the hard drive from my Toshiba Satellite M70-258.
I would like to know what is the maximum size of the disk that I can install it.
I would like to know if it is suportts Sata drives.

The problem is that there is no official information on the maximum size of HARD drive on laptop series different. If we can only speculate on the supported formats.

But I found it here in the forum:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=93195𖰋

The user has updated the own M70 with the 160 GB drive HARD Toshiba MK1637GSX and it works.
So maybe this info helps a bit.

  • Satellite L650-116 HDD Upgrade

Hello everyone. I have a 116 L650 (i5 430 m, ati 5650, 4gbram) and I want to spend my hard drive WD Scorpio Black 750 GB and 7200 RPM. I want to know if my phone can support this disc hard because I heard someone (not a Toshiba) laptop with this drive has a controller error.

The phone supports common 2.5 SATA HDD.
Given that the SATA controller is not limited to a maximum size of HARD drive, the 750 GB SATA HDD should work fine.

  • Satellite A100-386 - HDD upgrade question

Hello everyone and happy new year.

First of all, sorry for my bad English.

I bought a Satellite A100-386 a few years and I'm really happy, but my hard drive has failed.
So, I wanted to know if I could put a 2.5 "SATA II disk, like this.

    http://www.materiel.NET/Disque-Dur/Hitachi-Travelstar-5k500-b-s-ATA-II-250-go-8-mo-48900.html

because when I see the characteristics of the satellite, they mention a hard drive with only S - ATA.
    Y at - it compatibility?

    Thank you answer :)

    Bye bye

    Hello

Yes, I think that this should be possible.
The A100 supports hard drives SATA controller, and theoretically, you can use any HARD SATA 2.5 drive.

  • Issue of satellite M40-101 memory upgrade

    Hello
Can someone tell me what type of memory can be installed in my laptop? Currently I have a 512 Mb DDR (PC-2700) installed and I've been thinking about changing it 2x256Mb DDR2 (so the double pipe should work). Is this a good idea? Will it work? And what specific type of DDR2 is compatible with my Toshiba?

    Hello

As far as I know the laptop uses PC2700 DDR - Ram modules.
You can upgrade the memory for max 2048 MB and these modules should work properly:
    PC2700 256 MB (PA3311U - 2M 25)
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 2M 51)
    1024MO PC2700 (PA3313U-2M1G)

    I hope I could help

  • Satellite Pro M30 - HDD upgrade up to 160 GB

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite Pro M30 and I want to move the hard drive to the maximum size supported.

As I see from previous posts of the preinstalled bios supports up to 128 GB, so the questions are:

1A everyone updated bios to support larger sizes (e.g. 160 GB)?

    2. the link suggested for bios updates (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp?service=EU) does not provide an option for the M30 (only M70) series. So what one do I download for M30?

    Thank you

    Hello

First update the BIOS will not help you get a possibility of using a 160 GB HARD drive.
The fact is that the M30 Pro Sam has an interface IDE (ATA-5) and this HARD drive controller supports LBA the28bit
So in my opinion the 160 GB only are not supported.

    By the way;
You can find the BIOS and the driver for the Pro M30 sitting on the Toshiba driver page.
But to look for the area of _ARCHIVE_!

HDD 500.0 GB WESTERN DIGITAL Scorpio Blue 5000BEVT, SATA, 8 MB c., 5400 RPM

Will it work, or does better go, my laptop will recognize it?

    TNX

    Hello

I think that the laptops BIOS should recognize the new HARD drive.
The new HARD drive is a SATA HDD and it's the most important thing.

You need a 2.5 SATA HARD drive!
Size and speed are not really important, because the new SATA controller must manage this without HARD disk problem.
