Satellite series is turning off itself

Hello

I have a Toshiba laptop which is the series of satellites. It s quite old, as I've had around 2001-2002. It's a portable Windows XP Home.

I had just done a bit of problems with it, viruses, etc.. However, after the recent removal of virus, the laptop worked well up until now.
Now the problem is that the laptop lights well, everything goes normally, and when my little brother play a game like Counter Strike, after, say 10-15 minutes, the laptop turns off completely! When I start it again, it starts normally, no errors reported. I need to know what the problem is!

Any help, tips, advice and recommendations are welcome and much appreciated!
Thanks a bunch!

Hello Umair

From your description of the problem is overheating. The laptop is old enough, and I imagine that a lot of dust. Dust blocks the cooling fans and the material cannot be cooled properly. The result is overheating and suddenly switching OFF. It's a kind of mechanism to protect and every time when material reaches the temperature level critical the laptop switches OFF.

All you have to do is to remove the dust. After having this laptop works perfectly again.

    Hi all

This happened to me twice. While I was relax play skirmish Command and Conquer 3, computer laptop turns off suddenly. I was running an external power supply and the battery was full. What is even more strange, it was impossible to next turn to the until I removed the battery and plugged in.

I bought this game around March and was able to beat the 3 campaigns without these attractions.
I suspect that this may be caused by overheating, because after the laptop is pretty hot. What do you think? I bought it in January.

In my Office I occasionally removed the fan and radiator vacuum, there accumulates a lot of dust sometimes. It is not easy in the case of laptops. Any suggestions? See you soon.

    Hello

You should do a bios update, because I had a similar problem with my A100 and after updating the bios to the version the most recent (5.60) I had no problem more. Maybe it helps.
The other thing is, if you have a ventilation system which is clobbed with dust, then you should take a container with compressed air (you can get it in every electronic market/store) and gently lead some air to breath through the ventilation holes. (like 2 seconds. Wait, then wait 2 seconds and so on; just make short sounds :))
    Then, ventilation must be clear.
Otherwise bring your machine to a service partner for a checkup of material because some loose cables inside the machine could probably be a reason that the machine feeds not correctly on...

  • Satellite 2430-S255 turns off during playback of video clips

My laptop Toshiba Satellite 2430-s255 turns off 5 minutes every time I play streaming video clips to web sites using Windows Media Player version 10.0. I have uninstall the version 10 and used version 9, but there is no difference. Computer has 512 meg of memory and 10 GB of additional space on the hard drive.

There is no problem when I play DVD using the same software.

Toshiba support has been telling me that cpu is working hard and it heats up because of this problem. I used the fan to circulate the air, but the computer still shuts off.

    Can help.

    Christiane

    HI Fanny,.

Any graphic activity will tend to make your laptop run more hot and therefore sufficient cooling.

Make sure that your airway through the CPU radiator is not clogged with dust and debris (a lot of discussions in this forum about this) and also ensure that there is sufficient air under your laptop knife get in the fan air vents.

  • Satellite A60-122 turns off immediately

Hi there, my 2.5 year satellite SA60-122 turns off no aparent reason.
Sometimes after 10 minutes and sometimes after 3 hours.

    Why o why?

    Does anyone have an idea?

    Thnx a lot.

    Hello

you are somewhat familiar with computers? If not, I suggest you bring your machine to a local service partner (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?subs=tais)
If Yes, then firstly make a few hardwaretests. You can make them with tools like "Memtest86" for memory or "Prime95" for CPU and RAM.
This software is on a windows live cd for computer-maintenance as the UBCD4Win (Ultimate Boot CD for Windows) which contains a lot of useful tools and diagnostic programs.
    Here´s a link:
    www.UBCD4Win.com

    Other means can be:
Clean the CPU fan, try to remove the RAM (maybe), maybe the power adapter is defective or maybe the battery.
It s a little more difficult to find these things, but often it s really good to use this live-cd-system and check the system.

So, try it (or not :)) and give some information about what happened, maybe to give more detailed information about the behavior of the machine.)

  • Satellite P10 randomly turns off

    Hello

I had my laptop since new for about 1 and a half years now, and only about 2 months, my laptop keeps turning off itself without warning or anything? I really doubt that it's a virus I have norton and also have ad-aware program running all the time.
I think it may be the laptop overheating? or the material is damaged?

Can someone tell me what I must do to overcome the problem please?

    Thanks Dan

    Hi Daniel,.

Random power thresholds are always a sign of overheating. All other problems occur a controlled stop or restart.

It is likely that your laptop is an accumulation of dust and fluff partially block the heatsink from the CPU. You can try to remove it with an inner pipe of the vacumm cleaner pointed at the gates of suction air under your laptop. Do not try to remove it through the rear exit gates because that will make the problem worse.

If this does not work, then you will need to remove the radiator to clean, but I hope this won't be necessary.

    Kind regards

  • My Satellite L555-L11 turns off suddenly very

    Hello
My satellite L555 L11 turns off very suddenly. It seems that it s because of the heat, as when it arrives, I put my hand under the laptop and feel a too high temperature.
    my laptop is 5 years
    What should I do?
    thx for you answer

I think your laptop is quite full of dust and I can imagine that cooling rack is blocked so that your laptop is unable to catch his breath.

Believe me, that cleaning can help. Best thing you can do is professional cleaning. In this case the laptop must be disassembled. Otherwise, you can buy compressed air and try to clean it.

My laptop turns off itself Compaq presario c500

This may be a problem with the power supply for laptop. Power drain the computer once and then check to see if the same problem still exists. In order to drain the computer, disconnect all external devices from the computer and also to take the charger and battery, then press on and press and hold power for 30 seconds and release.

Also a BIOS update if available on HP.com for model laptop.

You can also see the computer in BIOS. Power on the computer and immediately, press the F10 key to load the BIOS, and then leave the computer as it is in the screen of the BIOS for some time and check if the computer turns off again and if it still cell phone off on its own while it is in the BIOS then contact HP and arrange for the service on the computer

Another thing is this may be WHAT BIOS is configured to shut down the PC at the same time. Which battery is low or adapter will be disconnected, and then PC also turns off. Some malware can also turn off PC, in order to check this run full scan with your anti-virus and see if something might detect.

  • Satellite A60 is turned off by itself

    Hi all
I have a Toshiba Satellite A60, and she herself is turned off. I had this problem 2 years ago and had to change the hard drive with the disk driver, but was covered by my warranty. It has been resolved for 7 months, but back. Now the same problem is more frequent, especially in the last days.
Another thing, whenever I move it to another room (you have to walk on the stairs, so maybe something is moving, or as the other room is usually really hot), I have this problem more frequently.

I don't know that it's an overheating problem! Sometimes it's really hot.

I opened it to check if the fans (there are 2 large and the other small) are working well and they seem to be.
When we keep the keyboard not attached, it works perfectly for hours, however, as soon as I attach, it get overheated and shut down.

I'm running out of ideas and to consider difficulty will cost you a huge amount of money, and to be honest, I'm not sure that it be resolved.

In cars, there is a kind of thermometer, which could be the temperature. I was wondering it's the same in the laptop, if it is also in cars, according to the room temperature, and if it is what creates this problem.

Everything has any suspicion what should I do?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Since the opening of you´ve I guess that you didn t took a glance to the fat of cooling on the CPU. In your case, I would do the following:

Looking for someone who is very familiar with laptops or laptop technician. Ask him to replace the fat of cooling on your CPU and graphics card.
The problem should be solved by replacing this cooling fats and clean the fans of dust and debris.

The machine should be run after all the action without any problem.

  • Satellite A110-160 turns off by itself when im making a dvd to divx conversion

My Toshiba A110-160 turns off by itself (abruptly) when im making a dvd to divx (autogk for example) conversion.
    This has not happened before...
I use a bios updated to v1.7 (the latest).
Do you think that it is because of this? I also did an upgrade (2GB, 667 mhz) memory and I use ubuntu and windows xp.
    Any ideas?

    Hello

I Don t have a clue why the machine will stop automatically and I can't give you a quick solution, but I can give you an idea how to make some accurate diagnosis:

Remove the newly installed module and try again. Then give some feedback if it worked. If not, he should discuss more about this issue, would appreciate some comments from you.

    Good bye

  • Satellite Pro L650 turns off after start; DC In and Power LEDs blink on stop

A friend Satellite Pro L650 having worked well until yesterday, all of a sudden turned itself off. Now, at startup, it lights up normally for about 10-15 seconds before turning off suddenly. Turned off, the DC in white/blue LED and the orange Power LED Flash on a broad set of intervals of approximately one second. This extinction happens if I leave Windows or press F2 to enter the BIOS setup.

I guess this blinking is intended to serve as a kind of diagnostic code, but I have yet to track down what it means. Can anyone help?

To avoid confusion, power without the product stack the same, sudden stop experience, except the two LEDs remain solidly lit this time. With or without battery, trying to turn on again immediately after that a shutdown produced no response at all. Remove the power cable and immediately it reconnect again and turn then produced a brutal power off, but in less than 5 seconds. More wait between attempts to market seems to give a little longer powered on State, but without fault, the machine turns off just suddenly. With its short time 'turned on' we are talking, there cannot be any kind of thermal protection?

I had an old Satellite L450D lying around that uses coincidentally the same AC PA-1750 adapter, but use it made no difference. Of course, the battery does not have the L650!

The only previous numbers, that I am aware of this machine have been intermittent case of Windows reporting "Plugged in, not charging", but as my friend use it exclusively on the network, it was not a problem.

Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated...

    WTF?

    Hello

You use original Toshiba AC/DC adapter or another?
What happens if you connect the AC/DC adapter, while the laptop is turned off?

It s really strange problem, but I think that is s TI associated with AC/DC adapter or the motherboard itself

  • Satellite M40x-250 turns off without warning

    HII everyone,

Hope you guys can help me. I have an old Toshiba Notebook (Satellite M40x-250).

I don't know how old exactly, but I think around 4 or 5 years. Ive never had any problem with it, but now its weird action. Recently, I was typing something and suddenly it just turned itself off.

I waited about five minutes before I restarted and it worked perfectly again.
Same thing just happened half an hour ago.

Now his works once again, with no loss of information.
My laptop is just getting old, or would be - this other problem that could be solved?

    Thank you!

    Hello

In my eyes it s typical overheating problem
As you say it s a laptop plus age (4 to 5 years) and I suppose that the cooling fans have not been cleaned since the first day
I think that there is a lot of dust and debris that prevents the cooling modules to work with maximum efficiency, this can lead to a higher temperature and shut downs.

The laptop turns off automatically to prevent the equipment from damage
Clean the fan using a jet of compressed air! In from time to time, and it helps!
