Satellite T230 - issues of Debian Squeeze

Hi all

I tried to install Debian on the Toshiba Satellite T230 newly purchased; While the stable version does not recognize the graphics card Intel HD and HD Audio, the testing version Squeeze done from the beginning; I was also able to set up the wireless and ethernet, the card reader and the webcam seems to work. There are still some problems:
-bluetooth seems to not be recognized, as the command hcitool dev is not out of any recognized device
-l' HD audio seems to work with the audio reproduction, but the microphone (the one supplied with the cam and also a connected external MIC) does not...
-(secondary) the work of Fn keys are only the volume of those

you have any ideas on how to solve these problems?

Thank you

SYD

Hey Buddy,

As you can see: here are not much expert Linux because most users (and me too) use the pre-installed Windows version because it s tested and well run.

Maybe a Linux expert can give you a good answer, but I created something that might be interesting for you:

    Hi Yu_1,

    > I tried system recovery, update the BIOS. Nothing helps.
System recovery means that you have already reinstalled Windows from Toshiba disk recovery and HARD drive recovery?

If so, I think that you have tried everything you can do and it looks like a hardware malfunction :(

So as next step, contact a service provider allowed in your country and ask the guys for help. They can solve your problem. I think that it s mainboard issue because the USB ports are set on it.
If your laptop is under warranty, the repair would be free :)

    2x2gb or 1x4Go?

    What is dual channel mode?

    Thank you

I checked the specifications of your mobile device, and it should have 4 GB inside.
In any case it can be upgraded to 8 GB upwards then maybe you should buy a module with 4 GB and put a former module as the second RAM. One day, you can put second 4 GB of RAM and the use of RAM possible maximum with your Satellite T230-113.

  • Satellite T230 - 11 p - only 4 or 5 hours battery life

I recently bought by Satellite T230 - 11 p. Once I took it out of the package I plugged the AC adapter and used for a while and kept until it is fully charged. But the battery life last for 4 or 5 hours. In the manual, he wrote the life of the battery last for 8 hours.

Please help me with this problem. Should I replace the battery by a new, or - is this normal?

    Hi Krishj,

In my battery of 4-5 hours notice, life is beautiful and everything is ok with your computer laptop because it s always according to your use. If you run a large number of programs and using the brightness of the display, the laptop needs more energy. Which is a perfectly normal behavior.

Usually 8 hours autonomy you will have with the brightness of the display only low and high level of energy saving.

  • Is satellite T230 - possible to overclock?

I want to know if it's possible MY GREAT Satellite T230 FSB overclock by software apps. The core i3-330um, it's ok for the office and internet, but for CAD and applications, it took more power.
    Someone help me?

I tried with RMclock, SETFsb and Crystalcpuid, but nothing happens.
    Thank you!!!

    Hi clucabest,

If you need a laptop with more CPU power, why you didn t buy a laptop with faster processor?

In addition, an overclocking feature does not for me. Everything will be controlled automatically to protect the equipment. Overclocking produces more heat and the cooling fan has not been tested with higher settings.

In addition, you will lose the warranty if you overclock your laptop!

  • Satellite T230-12 q - cannot load the battery

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite T230-12 q and have noticed that when the machine is on and running on the battery, and if I plug the power cord into the power adapter, the AC light on the laptop comes on but the charging light doesn't.

If I put into hibernation or shutdown, the charge indicator lights up and the battery. Back-light the machine will continue to charge the battery, but if I remove the power cord and plug it back, it will stop to load again until I shutdown/Hibernate implementation.

I think that my unit is maybe defective, can someone confirm? The bios was originally 1.00 then updated to 1.30, but the symptoms remain.

In my opinion, everything goes well with your knees. Click on the power icon in the taskbar to see if it's loaded:

  • Satellite T230 - Downgrade Windows 7 64 bit to 32 bit

    Hello

Can you please help. Just a week before I bought the Toshiba Satellite T230-10j. The laptop comes with Windows 7 64-bit edition. It has the recovery partition and no other support provided with the same. Is it possible to downgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit OS. If so can someone please provide the *.wim image. There are a many applications doesnot support 64 - bit os and the only way for me would be the Windows 7 32 bit.

Can someone guide me how to proceed further with this.

    Kind regards

    Hi mate

As much as I know the laptop won't was delivered with any disk recovery because you could create a clean recovery disc image using the Toshiba Recovery creator software that was preinstalled on your laptop.

In addition if you want to downgrade the Win 7 64 bit to 32 bit then you will need to purchase the 32 bit version.

    Welcome them

  • Toshiba NB100 ACPI & WIFI on Debian Squeeze

Hi, it is perhaps a good place to ask.

One morning, I founded my netbook completely hung. So I turned off and restarted, but it hung in new and latest lines on the screen where the ACPI: _OSI (Linux) ignored BIOS query. From now my linux can start very well just with the following kernel options: nolapic noapic, acpi = off, acpi = noirq and my atheros wireless card does not work. A strange thing is that this wireless card is now detected by lspci as AR5001, but before it was detected as AR242x. I tried the madwifi and ath5k drivers, but does not. On the touchpad, it is activated and I can activate and deactivate by pressing fn + f1

This is the result of lspci with the ath5k driver

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev ff) (prog-if ff)
!!! 7F of type unknown header

So I upgraded the BIOS to latest version 2.10, but it remains the same. Tried to boot with knoppix usb stick and it to 'start the nucleus' without freezing kernel options.

    My system is Debian Squeeze.

So I don't know what's going on, can someone help me with this?

    Thank you

It seems that it s not the right place to ask this question here. The point is that most Toshiba laptops come with Windows and not with a distribution of Linux. Also I m not a Linux user, but I have based this interesting article:

I imported a prompt of Debian Squeeze 32 bit ESXI 5.1.

(For this time I have used Linux other comments 32-bit but want to use Debian 6 32-bit.)

I've seen Debian 6 32-bit option on some screenshots of people who have set up Debian Squeeze as a guest OS, but this option is available in the vSphere Client drop down.

This option could be hiding in the dialog box why or where?  I have Debian 5, 4 option available.

Is it possible manually via the CLI?

Check my answer to new topic where I stated that I had to upgrade the hardware of the VM before Deb 6 stood as an option.  Shut down the virtual computer, right-click on it, upgrade virtual hardware.

Be sure to check that your guest operating system will support the new virtual hardware configuration.  Since you have a 3rd part of the VMware Tools installed, this seems to suggest that your guest is sort of a prepackaged VM also...

  • Satellite A300 - issue Downgrade from Vista to XP

    Hi all...
    IM intending to get rid of my windows Vista SP2 (32 bit) and XP SP3 (32 bit). My laptop is: [Satellite A300 - 1 G 5 | http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=EU&com.broadvis ion.session.new = Yes & PRODUCT_ID = 1055589].

Now, I studied the topic before posting. When the first time I tried to install XP laptop does not recognize the CD of the OS and I failed. Later, I found a topic suggesting through the BIOS and change the HHD of ACHI to compatibility mode, so I did and it works but I have not installed yet. I have a few question reclassification process.

    1. once I have install the XP, can I put the AHCI mode? gives me a better performance (I really don't know what is ACHI!)
    2. this void my warranty?
    3. If I had a problem, the XP installation failed for some reason any and no OS on my laptop, will still be able to use the recovery DVDs to restore my laptop?
    4. now, the issue of the pilots. Here: [list of drivers Vista | http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU] and here: [list of Drivers XP | http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU], the question as follows:

    (A) some drivers exist in the list of drivers Vista but does NOT exist in XP driver list; as: DVD player, facial recognition, supervisor password, driver of the SRT, tiles for the mobility and WPS Library Center. What should I do?

    (B) is there a specific order to install drivers? as a driver for a device must exist before a driver to avoid conflicts or overwrite files?

    (C) there are several drivers for the same device, how to choose one? example: the Wireless Lan Driver has several companies (Realtek Semiconductor Corporation, Atheros and Intel); which I will use?

    5. is it true that Vista is better than XP mobility? will (consumption and the heat of power management) XP my laptop do suffer from heat because the laptop is already packed with vista? I mean, they tried what OS fits perfectly on the machine, unless Toshiba push just Vista people because Microsoft needs that... lol

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Hope that my questions are clear, I had something else to ask, its a matter of opinion. are there advantages of Vista on XP? I use my laptop for some games and make some 3Ds MAX, which both require a lot of RAM, Vista eats up to 1 GB of my RAM, so that XP barely fill half a GB of RAM, that is my main concern when I decided to go for XP. I'd like to hear your opinions and experience life...

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

In my opinion there is no great reason to change to Windows XP Home edition OS. Optimize Vista can also run well and stable on your laptop. I was very skeptical on Vista but now after a year of use I can work very well with it. Soon we will again have Win7 and it should work much better than Vista.

My point of view is in a hurry and do not always return to comfortable. Of course, you can do what you want and your decision is quite legitimate. I imagine that you will get better performance under Windows XP Home edition for all activities, that you do every day.

I must also say that you did the right thing to pick up some info before you start the installation of Windows XP Home edition. On this forum, you can find a lot of interesting and useful discussions.

    Back to your questions:
    1 n ° best performance, you'll have under ACHI.

    # 2 you can install what you want.

3 Yes, but only the DVD. F8 option no longer works and the image on the second partition will be useless.

    4
At the drivers, tools and utilities are not the same for Vista new and old WXP. Install available stuff. It is not enough.
B - generally YES. If you need help with this let know us.
C you know what WLAN card is in your laptop. Check Device Manager under Vista.

5 I didn't noticed any difference. Toshiba installs Windows XP Home edition for years and has good experience with this. You can use great Toshiba power saver tool in Windows XP Home edition and optimise energy consumption, cooling method and performance. In Vista, you can do the same.

    Good bye

  • Satellite L750D - issue strange keyboard/touchpad

Hi guys, I'm new here and I hope you can help me.

    I have a Satellite L750D here who has a strange keyboard/touchpad issue.

Recently, my screen was replaced and I toke the possibility of replacing the DD by a SDS.

I used the OS restore cd that I created from the partition recovery and completely reinstalled Windows 7 64 - Bit ones.

Everything seemed to work well after the last restart.

Then my after reboot, the keyboard was not working and or the touchpad.
I tried to restart / stop and start again, no change.

I plugged a USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

I reinstalled the drivers of touchpad on Toshiba site, still no change.

Then, I closed the lid and leave Notepad go into sleepmode/setting standby extended and found that when I opened the lid/screen, the keyboard was working again, but not the touchpad.

Fn + F9 made no difference.

I then pressed the button above the touchpad, but the touchpad remained dead. But after pressing this button, the keyboard went dead too!
The key for the touchpad power made no difference, the keyboard or the touchpad remained dead.

Given zero made no difference either.

Throw the drivers in safe mode led the pilots to be reinstalled, but both keyboard and the touchpad remained dead.

The only thing to bring back the keyboard is the cover and goes sleepmode/setting to Hibernate and wake up to the laptop.

But press the button above the keyboard and the touchpad is dead again.

Started from a Windows 7-LIVE CD, both keyboard and the touchpad remained dead.
Started from a live CD of Ubuntu Linux, keyboard works, no mather, you press the button for the touchpad, but the touchpad
    died.

Is there anything else I can try, or what I have to assume there's something defect requiring hardware repair/replacement?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Kind regards
    Jan

I plugged a USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

It's really strange... from my point of view of the rare, the mouse and external keyboard works properly, then the controller should be OK, and this means that the anomaly must be linked to the defective keyboard / touchpad.

But on the other hand, you said that the keyboard works correctly starting Linux Live CD.
For me, it makes no sense and I'm confused...

Anyway, given that the laptop has been disassembled to replace the screen and other parties, I think that something went wrong during this process and probably a part has been affected...

In my opinion, it is advisable to replace the keyboard and to check if it will fix the problem.
