Satellite U400-138: RAM works with 667 Mhz instead of 800 MHz

Hello

I have Satellite U400-138 with 3 GB of RAM (2 + 1 GB sodimm modules)
I have new kit 2x2gb sodimm-s Corsair PC6400(800MHz)

When I install new modules, system reported that they are working on 667 Mhz instead of 800 MHz,
Maybe that's the problem BIOS chipset because that support this frequency.

Help me, what to do, to run new modules on 800 MHz?

Hey Buddy

I doubt that it is a BIOS problem.
The point is that the speed of the RAM can be lowered and locked by the FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB supports only 667 Mhz then your RAM 800 Mhz will run only at 667 Mhz

It of simply the case; the firmware must be updated!
After replacing the motherboard ASP always update the firmware on the motherboard. If it has not been done, the CPU is only 598 Mhz.

You must contact the ASP for a update

    The question is...

I want to upgrade my portable computer system memory 3 GB DDR2 (800 MHz) RAM to 4 GB of RAM DDR3 (1066 MHz), which is compatible or not?

    Respect,
    enteoana

    Hello

In my opinion, you should follow specification not Intel and Toshiba. S Toshiba of info is based on own tests and facts.
So, depending on the specifications of Toshiba for the GM45 Chipset it is clearly written:

    Min(on Board) wheel capacity - DDR2 800 MHz 0 MB / 8 GB max
    Type of extension of memory - DDR2 800 MHz 1 GB/2 GB/4 GB
    Type of module - SO-DIMM

So if Toshiba write about 800 MHz modules, you must use the modules to them and not faster.
You may be able to use faster too, but they do not work with the maximum speed, but not going down to 800 MHz.

If you want to use max RAM amount use recommended and tested 2 x 2 Go DDR2-800 (PA3669U-1M2G).
Indicated as compatible RAM, 4 GB DDR2-800 (PA3670U-1M4G).

  • Satellite U400-138: VPN Service cannot be installed on WiFi.

    Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite U400-138 with Intel WiFi Link 5100.

Some companies - such as Cisco and Citrix - use * deterministic Network Enhancer *: a service that allows other services (like VPN) use the computer hardware. And my company uses the Cisco VPN client.

It is not possible to use the Cisco VPN Client by wireless with my Toshiba Satellite U400-138. The reason is * deterministic Network Enhancer * (DNE). DNE is installed with my card Ethernet Marvell Yukon (no problem), but Intel WiFi Link 5100 does not allow installing DNE. If you open "Network connections", if you look at the 'properties' of each connection after installation of the Cisco VPN client deterministic network (DNE) is only associated with Marvell Yukon. But I can't use VPN on my WiFi.

I found a solution for Lenovo: [http://www.wfu.edu/~yipcw/lenovo/t400/intel-5100-vpn/ | http://www.wfu.edu/~yipcw/lenovo/t400/intel-5100-vpn/] but unfortunately it back do not work with Toshiba (see images on this Web page!). I think it is * Intel * problem but maybe Toshiba can find a solution?

I think that this problem DNE may be an issue for other customers of Toshiba as Cisco and Citrix them frequently use in their products. For example, my company have invested to Cisco VPN.

    Kind regards

    Jacek.

    Hello

If have a U400 and I installed the CiscoAnyconenct.
It s a VPN connection and it works properly!

I have an Intel WLan 4965AGN card. But usually it s any WLan card is
The VPN should work with any connection.

But using VPN you can get access to some networks in your company, but in my case that other links do not work while the VPN connection is established.

    Hello

the problem for the subject [Satellite U400 - 138 Volume - software problem wheel | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=148001] I found a stupid bug in the software Toshiba Satellite U400-138 special keys. There is no way to fight them!

In the Toshiba Satellite U400-138 model I have 6 special buttons: drive, CDDVD, and "Play/Pause", "stop", 'rev back', 'rev forw. Using of the * Toshiba Assist * I have control over TWO of them - there is a list of TWO in the bottom of the * settings button * program - I can choose between the drive and CDDVD. In addition, this program do... nothing! I tested if I can open Notepad with this CDDVD button, but I couldn't. The program closes, and even after restarting the touch CDDVD always opens Windows Media Player. * And four other buttons are not active at all! * How can I join a program? Which program is the other 4 button use? They seems interesting, especially with LED lighting for * drive *, but in my opinion * there is no way to use them *!

    Are they useless?

    Any suggestions?

    Concerning

    Jacek.

They are certainly not useless. Do you really believe that Toshiba will offer unnecessary buttons? ;)

Have you tested the feature with the factory settings? It works properly with the Toshiba recovery image? I have the same buttons on my Satellite and everything works perfectly. I use Winamp too. No problem at all. So I wonder what you do with your laptop.

If I understand correctly, the Bluetooth adapter is * turned off by default * and a special * command ACPI * is required to activate it. I use the linux 2.6.27rc8 kernel and it has two drivers - * toshiba and toshiba_acpi *. These cannot be inserted into the 'No Such Device' kernel.

The reason is probably that these drivers only work with the Toshiba BIOS. This model has a Phoenix BIOS.

  • Wheel of Satellite U400 - 138 Volume - software problem

    Hello!

Recently * Toshiba Tempro * suggested I upgrade the bios driver sound (Conexant) and a few other drivers for my Vista. I did and then I noticed that the volume of 'material' control - * volume wheel *-did not work. Still, I have the right volume level control by clicking on the 'volume' icon, but turning the steering wheel left to right and does not affect the volume level. I tried all the options in the Control Panel, but there is simply * no. OPTION for a wheel *.

I thought it broke. BUT: there was a miracle - if the * registry editor * (regedt32.exe) open the wheel _works_ perectly! But if I close it (or even if I click on another window or minimize regedt32) everything is bad - volume stops at the last level, "recalled" my Vista (I have tested hearing music in the background).

    That's why I think that:
    1. the wheel is working and sending its changes but Vista (or a pilot of its new) does not recognize
    2. when the Registry Editor opens these changes are "up-to-date" - so the wheel seems to work. But when the registry editor is not active there is no mechanism for this "update".

All solutions? You know the keys on which registry changes when I turn the volume knob? That I should

    Hello

I have a U400 also, but the PSU40E and installed Win XP SP3.
I can use Hibernate mode and standby without big problems.

Just a question; You update the BIOS?
I did and installed the latest version of the BIOS from the page of the European driver Toshiba before I ve installed Win XP.

In addition, I would like to know if you use the Toshiba Power saver.
Toshiba Power saver was chosen in my power options Windows and I can go to sleep mode by pressing FN + F3.

  • Satellite U400-11U: no sound with HDMI output

    Hi all

I am the proud owner of a model of satellite U400-11U PSU40E running with Windows Vista.
Recently, I tried to view a video on my TV. To do this, I used the HDMI output of the laptop connected to the TV.

I took care to connect the cable to the TV and only after to the laptop.
Then use the quick access key (Fn + F5), poster image on the TV.
    Unfortunately, there was no noise.

After some googling, I discovered that I needed to activate the HDMI audio output via the control panel of the sound.
Unofrtunatly, when viewing, I have found no output Audio HDMI, but only speakers and another exit (whose name I forgot--sorry).

I tried to update the video and HDMI audio drivers (I noticed that there is a HDMI audio driver in the perpipherals system, which was considered 'work' of Vista), but it changed nothing.

So, what can I do to activate the audio output over HDMI?

    Hello

Please see this FAQ from Toshiba:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB9401B00001R01.htm

You will find an instruction how to solve this problem... it s about Qosmio G30 but I think it should work on U400 too...

The point is that you must set the S/PDIF audio output by default!

And don t forget to RESTART the laptop after the change was made.

  • Satellite L20-101: I think as 667 Mhz module runs only with 266 Mhz

    Hello

    I bought 2 x 1024Mo DDR2-RAM for my L20-101.
First I tried 533 MHz, but the laptop does not work with them, so I bought the
    Version of 667 MHz.
CPU - Z says that the FSB:DRAM - ratio is 1:2 If the two are in fact run with just 266 MHz.

I've updated the BIOS with the latest version of the Toshiba-home page, but nothing has changed.

    So finally, my questions:
1 perhaps CPU - Z is false (I don't think so...), are there any other good programms to check the parameters of memory?

    2. If the values in the program are correct: where can I change the value of the report? Is it possible to see more than a few settings in the BIOS or is it a rider?

    Thanks for your help

    Hello

First of all it is important to mention that the Satellite L20-101 supports a FSB of 533 MHz.
    So the DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25) and DDR2 400/533 memory modules 512 MB (PA3412U - 1 M 51) should work and are 100% compatible!

If you use the module of 667 Mhz, it runs only at 533 Mhz due to the limitation of the front side bus.

In addition, I think you have misunderstood something.
Here are the modules DD2 and so the CPU - Z recognizes the speed of the modules as 266 MHz (2 x 266 = 532 Mhz)
If everything seems to be ok!

PS; You can also use the other tool called Everest home edition. It s a freeware and very useful to run a diagnosis system and equipment

  • Upgrade memory for Satellite U200: are supported with 667 mhz modules?

I am a new user and I'm on a Toshiba Sat U-200-115. I want to upgrade, and I intend to do an upgrade to 4 GB.

What I want to know, although it said this laptop supports the upgrade to 4 Gig, but this model use a DDR2 533 MHz memory. Considering that since the Web from Toshiba site, I see only 1 slot memory of Gig available with this clock speed and a 2 Gig DDR2 available with clock speed of 667 MHz. What I want to know, if I want to upgrade to 4 GB memory with clock speed more high clock (667 instead of, 533) would work on this machine?

    Thank you.

    Hello

It depends on the chipset of your Satellite U200-115.

If chipset supports 4 GB of memory and BIOS and Vista supports 4 GB of memory too, then you can go use the full 4 GB of RAM.
If the FSB takes care also of 667 Mhz then modules of memory would also go wit full 667 Mhz speed.
If the chipset supports only 533 Mhz then the chipset would slow the 667 Mhz module and memory would go only to 533 Mhz.

So what you have to do is check what chipset is equipped in the U200-115.
Full details and specifications of chipset you can find on the page of Intel.

But generally, there is no big difference between the modules of 533 Mhz and 667 Mhz modules 667 Mhz turns a little faster but you won't see everything boosts performance

  • Satellite M70: Memory 533 MHz with 667 Mhz compatibality?

    Hello
I bought the new Satellite M70 (PSM70) 1.7 Ghz (400FSB) with the construction of memory DDR2 PC2 512 MB 533 MHz, if I DDR2 1 G 667 Mhz added to it? the Mhz will be a problem? and why the standard memory 533 Mhz and 400 Mhz processor speed?

    Kind regards

    Hello

In my view, you must use the Toshiba recommended of the memory modules.
AFAIK you can use DDR2 modules like these:

    DDR2 -400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-400/533 (PA3412U - 1 M 51)
    1 GB OF DDR2 400/533 (PA3411U-1M1G)

To my knowledge, the device supports:
    Intel Celeron M up to 1.7 GHZ 0.09u CPU, 1 M L2, at 400 MHz FSB
    Intel Pentium M CPU up to 2.26 GHZ 0.09u, 2 M L2, 533 MHz FSB

Therefore, it is possible to use 400 and 533 MHz memory speed.
You can also use the modules of Kingston. The performance is optimal.
