Satellite U500 - 1-8 - BIOS update problem
I have a problem with * BIOS * update on my Toshiba * U500 - 1 d 8-PSU9ME *.
Currently, the BIOS is + v1.50 +, but on this page http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=EU
I found the new version + v1.90 +. (I know that the BIOS update should be made not when any problem occurs, but I occasionally some problems on startup etc...)
When I run the update * UBIOS.bat* that nothing happens, but the thread * WinFlash.exe* is running on background.
What can I do? I found this manual http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm, but it is not useful.
If you have downloaded the BIOS v1.90 so you need to unzip (uncompress) first of all, this package. Inside the packaging, you will find the BIOS190.exe
You must run this exe file.
You say that WinFlash.exe is running on the background. Well, try closing this process and start then start the update
You can also reboot the device and might try to start the procedure once more
I bought the Satellite c660-13r 11.05.2011
After installing and configuring Internet conection, only he had messages on the Bulletin Board, NEW BIOS update the bios of the laptop of TOSHIBA BULLETIN BOARD. I updated the bios to 1.30 without any problem,
NOW I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM.
1 POST takes 30 sec,
2 start windows is slow
3. laptop is so slow I can cry!
4. when I open the new window or klick simply open the new link, stay for 3-4 sec
and I must ask, how is this posibile, when I open HWSetup, in the menu start-> toshiba-> utilytis
I can see the BIOS. 08/04/2011 I can send screenshots of version 1.40
How can I flasch BIOS with other versions,
His big problem to work
Thank you and I hope you can help me...
The version of the BIOS should be mentioned in the BIOS settings.
Turn on the device, press F2 and verify the version here.
Also I recommend the settings of the BIOS back to default settings.
In the BIOS settings, you will need to press F9 to get the default value. Then save the changes and exit the BIOS.
Restart the machine and check how many processes are running in the context of the BONE.
I recommend disabling of certain non-essential processes in msconfig.
There, you can go to the Startup tab and could uncheck the unnecessary process.
I have a Satellite phone C855 - 19 X and the alert tempo TOSHIBA utility prompts me to update my BIOS. However when I am doing so I get the following message
Flash process will end!
Current platform have secure start capability, it must provide the location of storage NV by interface IHISI.
Please contact BIOS OEM Engineer to add the feature.
Without this IHISI interface, variables to authenticate will be modified or erased by flash process.
If you understand the risk and want to keep flashing.
You can add the following parameter in platform.ini to ignore the error.
SkipSecureBootProtectionCheck = 1"
Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem? Should I add this parameter, or is otherwise around it? Because the BIOS will be affected I hesitate to do so.
Thank you in advance.
First of all, you should know that the update of the BIOS is a sensitive technique and using wrongly you can damage the motherboard. So be sure to always update the BIOS.
Second, the update of the BIOS is not quite necessary in case your laptop runs correctly.
You have problems using the laptop? Isn't it? Well, in this case I wouldn't touch the BIOS.
However, the error message is telling as secure boot
Secure boot is an available option in the BIOS settings. You should probably disable secure boot before running the BIOS update file.
My aunt was having problems with his A210, so she bought herself a new and gave me the old one. The problems that she has been seen was the computer kept stopping at random. I think it's an overheating problem because the laptop runs quite hot. The BIOS has never been updated so I thought that might help with this problem. in any case, when I tried to update the BIOS this error message came.
Cannot load the C:\Users\Dan\Desktop\MK10AWF\PHLASHNT driver. SYS.
Please verify that your accounts, if you have no administrator privileges, please sign in again!
Access is denied.
Error code: 5
I am the only user on the computer so I have administrator privileges and I don't know why this error is coming. Help, please. Thank you
> Has anyone else experienced problems with the A210 of overheating? All solutions?
I m a Satellite A210 owner and to be honest, a higher internal temperature might occur if the laptop would not get enough air to cool the internal parts like CPU and GPU.
A few weeks ago, I used the laptop on the sofa I don't the opinion of t that the cooling that are placed at the bottom of the unit fans were clogged because of my position relax, if you know what I mean ;)
After a short period of use, the laptop shut down automatically I was a little surprised, but I realized that air could not circulate, and so the laptop overheated
Now, I m using the unit only on the desktop. This method is recommended, and it helps to keep the temperature at the lower level
PS: My BIOS is updated...
Card mother name: Toshiba Satellite U400

I've got the same laptop model and updated the BIOS to version 4.70 - Win and everything last week went well.
I also have Win 7 OS but 32 bits.
Just a question: have you you uncompress the package correctly before you run the exe file?
You should do this in a folder created. Moreover in the majority of cases the VAP (value added package) must be installed on your machine.
I have problem with the bios update, my laptop is 1.30 bios ver and ill try updated to 1.60 worm. on windows update becauseI gift? t have traditional update disk. But do not work 4 me. Help, please? Im trying to update to 1.20 ver., reading in the manual of the BIOS, but nothing hapend.
SRY for bad English :) ppl
I also have a satellite M30, and a few weeks ago I had updated my laptop to the BIOS v1.6 latest. I had no problem with the update.
Where did you downloaded your BIOS? and what Productcode your machine? (PSM30E or other)
I have a Satellite Pro L300 (PSLBHE).
I downloaded the new bios and started the upgrade file. A window appears and shows the version of the old and new bios (v1.70-> v2.20). All in 1 min. my laptop computer screen turned black but the green light flashed HDD and does not what it is about 15 minutes. After that I pushed the power button and the judgment of the laptop. Now if I push the power button nothing happen just blank (black) screen and HARD drive flashing.
What is the problem? What can I do? Please help me.
It's the BIOS update is finished now. Of course, the BIOS update was interrupted and now of the BIOS chip is damaged.
What can you do now?
Unfortunately not much. What you need is a professional help, so I recommend you contact the closest service Toshiba and ask for help. I'm sorry.
Find it me difficult to update the BIOS 1.90 because I got the message that I had permission to run the update. Of course, I executed the request made by the administrator and try several times to restart Windows (Home prem 64 - bit). The last time when I installed 1.80 BIOS update there was not this sentence. Attach the screen with the message from the application.
Thank you very much.
In my opinion, there is a problem with Win7 version you are using. Maybe it's not enough to run as administrator, but you must be logged in as an administrator.
Please check it out.
By the way: why do you need new version of BIOS? Is there a problem with your laptop?
I obtained through Satellite L300 laptop and I want to update its BIOS (current v1.50), so I downloaded the bios update v1.60 - WIN and when I run the extracted PS10160M.exe file - I get a message that "this BIOS is not for your laptop.
What I am, I am doing wrong?
PS: that updating the BIOS was suggested automatically after registration on the Web from Toshiba site via the serial number.
UPD: it looks like autosuggestion fail: manual search shows that bios update 1, 60-win is not suitable for the model Satellite L300 PSLBCE. :-(
You used the wrong BIOS!
The European driver Toshiba page provides a BIOS for this Satellite L300 PSLBCE series and the latest BIOS right now is 1.50!
Currently, your laptop uses the latest version of the BIOS.
I have download the proper file, but saves it as tw30170w.rom. How do I run it? Windows does not recognize it.
I would try it with the traditional Biosupdate.
Download bios here-> http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Watch "Support & downloads", click on "Download Bios" a choose your model
How to upgrade the BIOS
1.) extracted the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
2.) insert a 1.44 MB diskette formatted in the floppy drive.
3.) Execute the file *.exe extracted to the temporary folder. Follow the instructions on the screen. A BIOS update diskette will be generated.
4.), make sure that the laptop is plugged into the sector.
5.) turn off the laptop.
6.) place the floppy disk containing the BIOS upgrade in the floppy drive.
7.) turn on the laptop with the F12 key.
8.) the BIOS boot menu appears. Select 'Removable Device', 'USB Floppy Drive' or the diskette symbol using arrow keys. Press "enter".
9.) the Notebook will start from the BIOS upgrade diskette.
10.) the BIOS update will start automatically.
11.) after a few minutes the laptop turns off automatically, remove the disk and do a restart. If it does not then remove the disk and turn off the system and return to restart the laptop.
I was updating the BIOS on TOSHIBA SATELLITE C660-13R of 64-bit windows 7. Downloaded driver toshiba web. To halfway the portable installation hangs. I left it for 40 minutes to run, but he did not return to the normal state. As the motherboard fan began to move at high speed, I decided to take out the battery. Result when I power my laptop back I 1 beep from the motherboard and a black screen.
Can someone help me please?
Of course, the BIOS update procedure has not. Something was wrong during the update process and it seems that the EMRPOM module was not properly flashed.
This is the reason why the laptop is no longer.
Well, if EMPROM isn t damage, it should be possible to re-flashing the BIOS module once more, using special version of BIOS and crisis disk BIOS.
Usually the authorized Toshiba maintainer in your country should be able to re-flash of the module using this disc of crisis.
I also read in this forum that some people managed to re-flash EPROM module using some 3rd party crisis disk found somewhere in the internet but it still does not
The ASP will therefore probably be your last resort
However, to use the forums advanced search option to find related discussions on the crisis disk BIOS could be interesting for you
I was running the BIOS update I downloaded on this site, when the system hang.
After a while I had to unplug the power cable to turn off the laptop.
It seems that the BIOS got corructed.
Now, I turn on the computer but the screen is always black, lights are green all the time.
I tried pressing F12, F2 by turning on and nothing happen.
Please help me if you can. Thank you! Albert
I agree with the user above.
It seems that something was wrong during the BIOS update process and now only the ASP can help you.
I would recommend contacting ASP, guys in your country and ask for later handling.
I've updated the bios with an update from the center of toshiba, but the process is unresponsive and I had to restart the computer. The result is the laptop does not start because I think I lost the bios of programming. I test this http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/General-Technology/Satellite-A215-S4747-Bios-update-failure/m-p method but the laptop will beep 3 times every 2 seconds without stopping and with black screen only. The CD-ROM unit tries to start but that's all.
If anyone knows a separate solution that replace the motherboard, please tell me to probe it.
Thanks for your help.
> I've updated the bios with an update from the center of toshiba, but the process is unresponsive and I had to restart the computer. The result is the laptop doesn't start
To me, it looks like the BIOS update procedure has no
I'm afraid you have no other alternative besides contacting an ASP using m.
It seems that the ROM module is not flashed on the correct order and the technician could try to relash Rom module with a BIOS version of crisis
I would recommend contacting the local ASP in order to solve this problem
Hey guys and girls,
I have some problems after the update of the bios. Before the update my laptop has been the scene of much smoother and everything was fine and dandy until Tempro told me to update my bios. The problem is that after the update, the temperature seems to be considerably higher as usual when I play the game (I am a gamer) and also all the games I play seems to be much slower than before (lower, gal frame rate). Before the update I could play Dragon Age Origins with 1366 x 768 with 4 x anti-aliasing and the only one that I could get the same performance with the graphic parameter above is on 800 x 600. Now, it is certainly a big problem for someone who is a graphics junkie when it comes to games.
* What do you think I should do? *
A. downgrade my bios for when I bought everything first? (I don't know what version of bios is if anyone knows the stock bios?)
B. perform HARD drive recovery?
C. clean install of Windows 7 64-bit?
My laptop computer spec:
Model name: Satellite A500
Part number: PSAR3E-00N005EN
Serial number: X9206227K
OS version: Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition
BIOS version: 1.50
Physical memory: 4096MB RAM
Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce GT 230 M
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

I think you had a version of BIOS 1.30
In older versions of the BIOS update are not available on the Toshiba driver download page. Only ASP (partner) has access to these early BIOS versions
In any case, I found an interesting thread:
Not sure if it could be useful but check
PS; the graphics card driver update is a good idea it too check
I bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite A300-247 with Windows Vista Home Premium.
Then I formatted it and divided the hard (320 GB) into 6 partitions and installed Windows Vista and Windows XP on drive C to drive D after having changed the SATA controller mode in the BIOS for compatibility. The computer worked well with 2 operating systems. However, when I updated the BIOS to version 1.9, two operating systems stop working and one of them can be installed: XP can be installed when SATA controller mode is placed on compatibility and Vista can be installed only when the SATA is changed to AHCI.
Is there is no explanation of what past? And can I install operating systems 2 together again?
First of all, I doubt that this has something to do with the BIOS update. I think that after the BIOS update HARD drive mode has been changed from AHCI to compatibility and therefore the OS didn't start.
Anyway, in compatibility mode you can install Vista and XP without the SATA drivers. This should t be a problem.
But do you know the difference between compatibility and AHCI? AHCI mode is faster and therefore I would recommend this mode.
Like you said Vista you can already install in AHCI mode and for XP, you need Intel Storage Manager. This package includes the SATA drivers you need and here is a step by step guide to use these drivers:
Last but not least, you can install 2 OS. You can do what you want! ;)
