Satellite U500 - black edges on external monitor

Hello

I have problems with the HDMI to the TV connection.
FULL HD resolution is 42 "FULL HD TV about 4 cm of black borders all around the display.
I tried with 3 different HDMI cables, 2 different FULL HD TV and a LCD display, but were all of the black edges. Black borders will appear when you start computer (to the first screen Toshiba and BIOS too).
With the same cables and monitors but other laptop's picture with no edges.

When I tried with one HDMI (stl. U500) who have had on the another DVI output (screen LCD FULL HD) side has been the picture without black edges. With normal VGA - VGA cable is FULL HD photo also without edges.
Where could be a problem?
The system is Windows 7 64 bit with the latest ATI display driver and the latest version of the BIOS (2.20).

Greetings

Hi Michael,

I m not a Satellite U500 owner but I guess there must be something wrong with the settings. I've never had a problem with the HDMI connection on my external monitor or TV. It s still works fine.

In any case, what screen resolution you are using the external monitor? You must use the native screen resolution on external monitor. Then, you should be able to use the full screen here.

  • Satellite U300 - 13 M - port external monitor (VGA port) does not work

Dear users of Forums from Toshiba,

    Hello

I guess that by Satellite U300 came preinstalled with Vista. Am I right about that?
Anyway, if you want to use external monitor and switch successfully to him you must install the utilities and tools of Toshiba. There are several of them and allows you to use the FN + F5 key combination and move your desktop to laptop LCD display to the external monitor.

Can you please tell me one thing: have you installed all the stuff of the Toshiba download page according to document Instructions of facilities?
The configuration of the laptop is not known to me, but try please check the Intel properties and let me know if the external monitor is recognized in properties. Usually, you can choose to use the external monitor there.

You can also start Toshiba HWsetup utility. There must be tab display. There you can also find an option to use the LCD screen + monitor at startup.

Check it out please and post the results.

    Hello

I put t found any information on the satellite M70-339, but on the M70-337.
I think that the two units are not different and the ports are the same.

However, as far as I know the M70-337 supports RGB (monitor) port on the left side, and you can connect the external monitor to this port.
This device supports also a s-video port to connect the TV to the unit.

  • Qosmio G30 - black screen on external monitor

Qosmio G30 (PQG32E) under Vista Home Premium, driver NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600, 7.15.10.9813

I can't get a picture on a monitor external (I tried two different monitors). More precisely:

"Windows Mobility Center" will recognize that a monitor is connected
"NVIDIA Control Panel - Display Change Configuration" will recognize the external monitor ('Select poster that you want to use' shows 'Display of the laptop + Sony SDM-HS73', which is the monitor plugged in ext)
but no matter what configuration I try using Fn + F5 or change of display Configuration, I can't do anything but a black (backlight) display on the external monitor.

The monitor is receiving a video signal correctly: when he is off in laptop only the setting Fn + F5, it displays a warning 'no signal', but when turned on again I just get black.

I tried to change the resolution for the external monitor settings. They exactly match the native resolution of the monitor. Still nothing.
I tried 'Clone' and 'Dual View' mode.
Tried various different orders to turn on the computer laptop and monitor, Plug and unplug the device, etc.

Having installed the latest driver for the Toshiba (see above) site. Have NOT tried to install any other driver from NVIDIA site, as she warns to use Toshiba - but that's worth a try?

The clean laptop screen and all other aspects of the video are very good.

It worked ok in the past (I think that before I did the upgrade to Vista when it was still on XP).
Should I just wait for another update of Toshiba driver and maybe Vista SP1?

I really hope this isn't a hardware problem, because the monitor is recognized etc...

    Jonathan

    What port you used?
The (analog) external monitor port or the output port D-video?

View as far as I know that if you used the external monitor (analog) port, then you should choose analog in the nVidia-> current view

Then, you can use the FN + F5 key to switch between the two views.

I've been using a connected external display on the vga port and now every time I disconnect the monitor and restart the laptop the laptop LCD screen will display the original message of compaq and the black windows boot screen with the logo but then turns off. If I reconnect the extrnal monitor it will work fine (even if the external monitor is turned off)

The screen of the laptop works fine without the external monitor connected in safe mode.

I used both the HP support and the setting in the display panel to select single monitor and set the display on the screen of the laptop, but every time that the external monitor is not connected the screen turns off. The external screen does not need to be turned on, just to connect to the laptop monitor work. I also tried to download the graphics driver and put it back.

If your laptop is a ComPaq base model then there is the (built-in) Intel UMA / GMA 4500 M - GL40 chipset with video memory sharing and you should consider downloading and installing the driver Intel graphics high definition (HD).

However, when I connect my laptop to my LCD Acer just external LCD monitor can t work properly. I can barely see what is display on the monitor, very snowy. It's hard to describe. I took a photo but don't know where to download it here.

    Hey,.

If you connect your laptop to external monitor and press the FN + F5 key combination what happens exactly? Pressing the FN + F5 key combination shows different options and you should test with external monitor only (not the clone image). If you work on external monitor doesn't do this work?

In addition, you must connect the devices before starting their.

Also, take a look in the BIOS and try to load the default settings. Make sure that that the HDMI cable is connected before starting Windows and check the status again.

By the way: what operating system are you using exactly?

  • Satellite A500 - 14 k black screen internal - external monitor is ok

    Hello

    I have some problems with my computer screen laptop toshiba satellite A500 - 14 k (p / n: PSAM3E - 02Q008FR)

Initially, the display on the screen was blurry and not stable. I had to tilt the screen to get a picture.
But recently, I have no display at all on the laptop screen.

However, the display is on an external source using the VGA or HDMI output. I think that the problem is not in the motherboard or graphics card, but maybe in the screen, the lcd inverter or the video cable LVDS.

Is my correct deduction or not?

First I'll change the cable of the LCD, but I do find the model for my laptop (dc02000ud00 p/n K000080540) at a reasonable price.

I checked on ebay and I want to know if the cable of the LCD for toshiba satellite A505 might fit my laptop as this product

It is said that the cable is for satellite A500 A505 their American model. Do you think this could be compatible with my french model?

Another issue is on the cover of RAM. I lost mine and I would like to know the reference of a new (product number)?

The shape is like on the Toshiba PC Satellite maintenance manual I found on this site (see page 25 of the manual)

    Thank you for your answers

    > However, the view is of course an external source using the VGA or HDMI output. I think that the problem is not in the motherboard or graphics card, but maybe in the screen, the lcd inverter or the video cable, LVDS
    > Is my correct deduction or not?

I agree with you it s not related to the graphics chip on the motherboard.
There must be something wrong with the LCD display or a tiny part as FL inverter or similar

In your case, I recommend you ask the authorized Toshiba partner in your country for compatible parts.
In this case, you are always on the right side and can be 100% sure that ordered parts would be fully compatible.

  • Satellite P200 - LCD is black but the external monitor is OK

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba P200 17.1 ", LCD has gone black,
You can see the backlight in the background.
    It turns on sometimes.

I checked with an ohmmeter lead LCD and it seems to be ok, is not sure that that is the problem.
When I connect it to an external it follow the work ok, made his first appearance on the backlight.

I suspect it is the LCD screen, but I would check with certainty before I part with my hard earned money.

Question, I have a spare screen Latitude D600 14.1 ", with the same connector on the LCD (30pin)
Could I use with inverter P200 to see if there is a signal / MoBo to the power connector.

    Thank you

    Spike

    Hello

You must use the display 17.1.
Your Latitude D600 screen is 14.1 "so it will not work.

  • Satellite U500 - black screen after inactivity

    Hi all,

I have a new problem on my U500.

My computer would 'lock' itself and would come to a black screen and nothing would respond. I see that the power light is still on but nothing. No screen saver is on. I have to hold the close button. This has happened 3 times.
Also my PC works slower abnormly normal do not think that there is a virus.

Note: I recently system restored my PC

    Thank you

    Hi Jaso444,

And now Windows isn t start over or what happens exactly, if you try to start your computer?

You use the preinstalled version of Windows 7 in Toshiba?

  • Equium A110-252: the display on the external monitor resolution

When I connect my LCD TV screen to my new satellite A110-252 using the external monitor port does not fit the image of the (too big) TV screen.

I've tried everything on orders for establishment of TV screen but no joy. Surely, there must be an option to fit to the screen on satellite? Can anyone help?

    Thank you Perry.

Hi there, you are using the external monitor port or the S-Video? Unfortunately, if you use the S-video port you can hold all of Office on television because it is technically impossible (without deleting the lines).

TV less than number of rows than a computer monitor: PAL = 576 visible lines, NTSC = 480 visible lines except if you can pass in 640 x 480 mode 800 x 600 is the best that you can use to display an image on the TV.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - LCD black screen - Fine on external monitor - fine

Hi, I have a headache with a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 mojor. The screen began to move to the blackout at random times and happens more and more. It is not serious if W
Jayindows has loaded or if I enter the bios, boot from the CD or leave it sitting waiting for me to select a boot device. More often than otherwise, it becomes black, but you can still see what needs to be on the screen, it is simply not at all turned to see clearly. The laptop itself still works very well because it works on an external monitor and makes the system beeps, cd turns etc.
    Have you tried the following:
Setting of various parameters in the graphics properties and in the bios but makes no difference.
It also becomes active again if I press FN + F5 to swap monitors but turns off after a few seconds.
It is not overheating as it's been all night and still sometimes happens when starting Cold Stone.
I tried to start with / without battery - no difference.
I tried to start without the disk HARD - no difference.
I tried to remove the battery by pressing power for 60 seconds, then add the battery and new starter - no difference in power.
I could have sworn it is the inverter, but it does the same thing with an inverter I know works! do not think that it may be graphic because it works on an external monitor and turn off.
I'm out of ideas and looking for a genius to fix it for me please!
    See you soon

    Hey Buddy,

    > It turns on but not at all to see clear
This would mean that the FL inverter is faulty the FL inverter of the internal LCD display controls the backlight of the screen and if the isn t working FL inverter you can see a picture, but very very dark.

It would be a logical explanation for your problem, because there must be something wrong with the laptop LCD if an external monitor is working properly. Also if it happens in the BIOS the problem is not software.

In your case I contact an authorized service provider and ask the guys for help. They can check your laptop and this should be done. Here, we can only speculate and discuss the different possibilities because it s just a user forum. EPA has professional diagnostic tools and can order all Toshiba spare parts.

    Good luck! :)

  • What is it's ok to keep Satellite U500 closed while using the external monitor?

    Hello

    I have a Satellite U500.
At home, I use a monitor and a keyboard. So I closed the laptop while working at home.

I can do this, or would it damage the display or otherwise hinder ventilation properly somehow laptop?

Thank you very much for your answers.
    Thierry

    Hi mate

Of course, you can close the lid when the laptop is connected to the external display.
I have a Satellite phone as well and it s connected to the external monitor.
I also have a USB keyboard.

I use the external keyboard instead of the internal keyboard for laptop and the cover is too firm

Don t worried if he of ok!

  • Satellite 210CS - the screen stays black (even to an external monitor)

Dear Toshiba Forum members and guests.

Several months ago, I found an old laptop. When I turn it on, the screen remains black. And when I connect an external monitor to the laptop via the VGA input, two screens are black. I used a flashlight, pulled on the LCD screen of the laptop, but I don't see all the details on the screen.

I thought it was because of the empty RAM slots. This week, I bought a RAM-unit and installed.
I tried to start the laptop again, but nothing on the two screens (even though I used a flashlight).
I searched the Internet for certain solutions, but nothing works. I also tried updating the BIOS, found on the Web from Toshiba site.

    Some information on the laptop:
    Toshiba Satellite 210CS/1.3
    PA1230E
    48 MB RAM
    1.3 GB HARD DRIVE

    Date of manufacture: 4 ^ th ^ October 1997

If you want more information or you would like more information, please put a comment in this thread.

I hope someone can help me solve this problem.

    Thanks in advance.

I think there must be some serious hardware problem.
I don't think that someone will be able to tell what part exactly failures because it could be any inner part.
You buy the RAMs again. Well, in this case, we can exclude RAM problem, but there is probably a motherboard, CPU or a graphics card problem.

From my point of view of the few you don't have many options: perhaps you could found some other good treatments Satellite 210CS somewhere in the internet since it is not very easy to get parts for this oldie

  • Satellite L755D: black screen after startup or switching of external monitor

I have a strange problem with my Satellite L755D. I normally use an external monitor that works very well.

If I want to switch to the laptops monitor using Fn + F5, the laptop monitor remains dark, but you can see (more guessing) office.

Just the bright background lights. Same thing if I boot without the external monitor. In the beginning (phase BIOS?), you can see the normal symbols, then the screen turns to.

Funny, is that these two problems do not appear when I cut the power supply and the laptop runs on battery only.
Any ideas, what the reason could be?

    Thank you
    Mason

Funny, is that these two problems do not appear when I cut the power supply and the laptop runs on battery only.

Maybe you should check the configuration of power plan that is used only in battery mode.
It might be possible that the backlight settings have been set at a lower value by using the power of the battery.
I recommend you to check this in the ATI catalyst and windows power options.
