  • Satellite U940 - Random BSOD after replacing HARD drive

    Good day ladies and gentlemen!

I was wondering if I can win some lights here - as I google myself in a bunch of flange on the issue, I have!

I am a famous computer technician (modest too) and more recently, a client of mine introduced me to a ultrabook Satellite U940 - lovingly with the SSD / HDD Raid 0 configuration running our beloved Windows 8.

All things according to their entire course - Hitachi hard drive failed (as google tells me is to be expected).

So, I replace the hard drive by a great little number Western Digital, cloned from Hitachi, sector by sector, and after a significant cajoling with bcdedit and bootrec amount, I could so he could begin our good liked Windows 8.

However, since then, I have random BSOD, cold boots failed and all sorts of errors.

I ran all the regular patches - SFC/scannow, chkdsk/r, Windows 8 repair facilities, etc., but it is still volatile jolly.

Things seem not to be as they were with this Satellite little ol '-before any repair, the peripheral device manager showed two "RAID 0' in the category of hard drives, and since then it shows the individual SSD and the WD HARD drive."

I've updated the driver for the Intel Rapid Storage at latest on the Toshiba site, but nothing helps - alas!
The weird part is that if I do a reboot on this little beauty, she starts without any problems, but a start cold after a power off is a completely different question - dummy - spit crashing, dumping, in general!

If there is a troubleshooting there champion who can destroy my help in this situation, I'd be very impressed and never have if they could provide assistance in this regard.

Unfortunately Microsoft - are we are all end by using these products of ever-so-pretty Appl?

    Hello

I read in some discussions here in this forum only after replacing the disk SSD or HARD drive, the RAID configuration is lost and must be rebuilt on a device Windows 8.

But this can be done very easily, and this can be corrected by an authorized Toshiba because this procedure requires special tools and utilities.

Unfortunately, it seems to me that you will need to contact the ASP in your country to get this problem resolved :(

  • Dismantling satellite U940

    Hi guys,.

    Anyone disassemble by Satellite U940?

I have problems with noise from the cooling fan, so I need to open and clean it.

I tried to do, but I was not able to reach the fan because I'm not that expert and I didn't break anything.

Is there anyone who has done so he can me adivce?

    >... since I'm not an expert it and I didn't break anything.
The reason why you should not do anything. Small mistake and you can damage something. There are many smallholders plastic that can be broken.

Disassembly of the laptop will be by authorized personal order only and following maintenance manuals.

Have you tried to reduce cooling fan activity change the parameters for the method of cooling? You can find advanced power options n.

  • error 'iaStorA.sys' on the Satellite U940-108

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite U940-108. I had to replace the hard drive failure.
After retrieving the backup of the following Win 8.1, start the laptop the error message system: System Thread Exception unhandled (iaStorA.sys).

This error also occurs if Win 8.1 is installed with an installation CD, and then the drivers are loaded.
I have updated the drivers to the latest version.

    I beg your help.
    A welcome message.
    Jordi Miralles.

After the HARD disk has been removed and replaced the RAID configuration is lost and must be rebuilt.
I don t know exactly the procedure, but in order to use the RAID feature that is controlled by the Intel Rapid Storage Technology, the RAID must be to rebuild and this can be done by the service provider accredited with special tools and method.

After that, I guess that this error will go away.

  • Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite U940 - startup of: SSD

    Hi guys,.

I think buy Toshiba Satellite U940. The reason is that he a dimmable-up ultrabook so I'll buy 16 GB of ram and a 120 GB of msata SSD. I'm going to install ubuntu. But because I'm not sure that two important things, I would ask you first.

    1. can you the msata SSD was seen directly from the bios? I want to install ubuntu on it and also to have my case start and all programs there. I ask this question because I read somewhere msata SSD it is only for the purpose of the cache and cannot be seen directly because it is in RAID mode. So can we get around this thing from the bios? I just only to manipulate the msata SSD as a disk driver normal in my bones. It is this possible?

2 are all drivers for Toshiba Satellite available for ubuntu linux U940?

Thank you guys for your time.
    Harry

    Hi Harry

Good to hear about your projects!

I can't answer your question exactly since I don't have the necessary information to do so.
However, I can tell you some things that can help!

The RAID configuration is purely software-rendering. So it can be removed from f.ex Ubuntu disk-tool.
I installed Fedora on the U840 and U940 that have the same RAID on an internal SSD flash drive and internal HARD drive.

The RAID can easily be removed and that make storage devices appears as installation targets unique (e.g. SDA and SDB).

However, I can't tell you if any data 3' rd party SSD will work in the U940.

My Setup was when I used the 32 GB SSD as a target for the OS - which is actually a LOT of space for an OS Lnux.
The internal HARD disk has been mounted as HOME.
In this way, I had the speed of the SSD for all operations of the system (boot, updates...) while having massive storage HARD drive for personal data.

Regarding the drivers, I think in addition to the basic features should work (WiFi, screen, sound, etc).
In my tests, I noticed (but is no intensive testing is) no problem don't except the backlight on the keypad was not working on older kernels.

  • A few questions after the downgrade of Win 7 on Satellite U940 - 11L

    Hello

friend of mine bought the Toshiba Satellite U940 - 11L which had Windows 8 on it, due to some reasons that she wanted to have Windows 7 installed on it, which was pretty easy.

Trouble came with the installation of the Symantec touchpad, after installing the drivers, it worked for about 10-15 minutes but then it stopped working.

Tried to uninstall and install again but no luck, found a few discussions where it was suggested to remove all the devices, remove the battery and the power cord.

Press the power button for 15 seconds and then power back on but still not lucky (I wasn't in the restoration of the default settings of the Bios I did not any change it outside disabling secure boot and replacing UEFI CSM that was needed to run win 7 on it).

Tried about 4 different sources when it comes to the drivers but still does not work. I checked the Device Manager Dev but see no conflict, and it shows that the unit works fine but the problem persists. Please note that the drivers were specific to windows 7.

Please if you have any suggestions we would greatly appriciate it.

On another note, I'm not able to install the bluetooth it (HW ID shows as ACPI\TOS6205), I tried to install it several times but no luck because it always shows as unknown device in the dev Manager. The driver that I use is Bluetooth Filter Driver Package as info.

Also, the computer is slower than it was with Windows 8, I suspect the reason for this is the fact that the installation of win 7 I accidentally erased part of the hybrid drive SSD (the size was 11.2 GB if I remember correctly, yes silly me...). I wasn't looking for a while on the net to see if there is a way to fix it but no luck so far.

Thank you very much for your time and your suggestions!

    Tony

With regard to the question of the touchpad.
To my knowledge, the touchpad should work even if the Synaptics touchpad driver has not been installed. Windows system contains own driver that control the touchpad and provide standard settings. Of course after installing the Synapatics driver, you should get a few more options and features more touchpad.

I recommend you to download the driver for the touchpad from Synaptics driver page and install it again: http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers

With regard to the problem of BT.
The laptop supports WLan Intel (Intel Wireless-N 2230) card that supports BT connectivity. Bt driver filter pack is ONLY necessary if you laptop would use an Atheros WLan card or Realtek WLan card. For the Intel WLan modules such package of filter is NOT necessary. To get BT to work, you must install the battery Toshiba BT!

  • Satellite U840W - no RAID on BIOS option after PC repair

    Hello

I bought a U840W of August from a British seller on eBay (although I live in France). After a few months of work perfectly, he had some water damage, and I sent it to Toshiba for repair. Apparently because my warranty was valid in the United Kingdom, they gave to CONTROLS for repair (a company that sells PC Toshiba parts). They changed the motherboard (I think twice, because I had to send it because the fan was not working and they said they changed the motherboard again).

So after getting it back finally with the fan, I notice that the startup is very slow (30 sec instead of 10), and also, it was a bit slower. So I update all my drivers and notice that the caching SSDS does not work (using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology technology), initially, he showed the SSD as unknown but then after completely with diskpart, it showed as available (for storage, but not for caching) ", this means no acceleration tab).

So after reading a lot, I enter the BIOS and see that I have had no RAID option for the SATA controller, only AHCI and compatibility (IDE).

Don't you think that they put the wrong mother with RAID disabled?
My BIOS version is also 6.90 and I find only 6,80 BIOS for my computer, don't you think they have access to the latest version of the BIOS, or simply that they have put another motherboard?

Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to 6.80 (I don't know if it will help to solve it but maybe)?

I didn't contact Toshiba on the phone because it's quite expensive, I preferred to ask your opinions before here.

    Thanks in advance

    > Do you think they put the wrong mother with RAID disabled?
    No, I don't think so.

As far as I know after a replacement of SSD or HARD disk on the Mobile Satellite U840W the RAID mode is configured and TSRI (quick start of Intel technology) is not available.

To rebuild mode factory RAID, RAID mode should be rebuild and TSRI must be activated using special tools.
But as far as I know that this can be done by the maintainer agreed Toshiba.

You should get in touch with the guys once more and must explain the cell phone number.
I guess they should know how to solve this problem.

  • Satellite U940 - update Realtek Wireless LAN Driver

I just upgraded my Satellite U940 PSU6VA - 00S 002 Windows 8 to 8.1 of Windows and am currently following the instructions of the upgrade from here. I noticed that European and Australian Toshiba sites include a 'Realtek Wireless LAN Driver' in their list of downloads driver for Windows 8.1 for the Satellite U940:
    - European page
    -[http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows81/drivers/PSU6V_Up_au.htm]

However, I have never noticed any a Realtek wireless LAN driver on my computer, before even that I have upgraded to Windows 8.1. I've only seen in Device Manager network cards:
    -Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200
-Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (which I believe is a wired LAN driver, not a LAN wireless driver).

So my question is: do I have to download the Realtek wireless network driver or is it not suitable for my system?

    > So my question is: do I have to download the Realtek wireless network driver or is it not suitable for my system?

Your laptop was equipped with Intel wireless network adapter and NOT card Realtek WLan and therefore the Realtek WLan driver does not need to be installed.
You should consider a fact: there are different laptops on the market models that are equipped with different material parts. Some support the Realtek WLan card and some models were equipped with modules WLan Intel and that's why you can find some drivers (like Realtek Bluetooth Driver Package Filter) in the driver from the list of downloads that are not essential for all models.

  • Satellite U940 - backlight on the keyboard in Linux

In addition to Windows 8, I installed Linux Mint 14 cinnamon on my Satellite U940-101 (now I have a sort of dual boot by activating the UEFI option in Bios power switch). Everything works fine, except for the lighting of the keyboard under Linux.

According to other forums, the only possibility to activate the backlight is to disable ACPI in the Bios. The problem is that in the Bios of the U940-101 (Bios Version 1.20), there is no option, at least I'm not and there is also that no Bios update available yet.
Does anyone know how to activate the backlight of the keyboard in these circumstances?

    Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, keyboard backlight is controlled by the specific tool of Toshiba and it is designed for Windows operating system only, so I put t think that the BIOS update will or can help you with this.

  • Satellite U940: 2.4Mbit / limit using Intel WLan - N 2230

    Hi support and other users,

I have a toshiba Satellite U940 windows 8, brand new laptop with Intel® Centrino® Wireless - N 2230, wireless but I do not get speed greater than 2.4 Mb

    http://www.Speedtest.net/result/2844225725.PNG

This result is the same when downloading from newsgroups.
On Ethernet is that the speed is 10 MB

I tried the same thing on this forum http://communities.intel.com/thread/32017
I did have the problem with an older laptop... It is not the router, I get the best speeds with older laptop.

I tried diverend drivers, installed driver update with Windows update, but nothing does.

You hhave a solution, I guess the wireless centrino is not good...

I bought this laptop for high speed with ssd, also need a connection with wifi broadband...

    Help please...

    Masterdam

    Hello

The Intel Centrino Wireless - N 2230 supports WiFi standards 802.11 b/g/n and it runs at 2.4 GHz only
Do you have what standard chosen in your router settings?

Please also see the Wlan standard that is defined for the wireless network adapter. You can do this in
Control Panel-> Device Manager-> Wlan card properties-> Advanced tab

To get the full 802.11 N speed, your router and wireless network card should be on the 802.11 N only.

  • Satellite U940 - 12 c: how to make recovery USB pendrive having only 2 DVD

    Hello.

I have a netbook Satellite U940 - 12 c, a software problem causing a HARD drive format and the SSD. Finally, I got the free Toshiba Recovery DVD (as it was not my fault, but a software one), two recovery DVDs.

And that's all I've got: an own Satellite, without partition recovery or any data in HDD or SSD. and the recovery of two DVD. Since my laptop doesn't have a DVD player, and I don't have an external, my question is simple: How can I make a boot USB key recovery by using data stored in the recovery DVD?

If anyone can help... Thank you!

    > How can I make a boot USB key recovery by using data stored in the recovery DVD?
In my opinion this isn't possible.
You cannot simply move the data from DVD 2 disks to USB. I think that this will not work.

In your case, you will need to use an external USB CD/DVD drive in order to retrieve the laptop using both disks.

  • Satellite U940 - SSD drive shows only 11.22 GB

    Hello

    I had a new Satellite U940 - B484 Ultrabook.
The first thing I did was finishing the wizard, then I created the recovery media (using external DVD drive) on three discs 4.7 GB DVD

We have Windows 8 Pro license, so my friend formatted the system and installed new Windows 8 Pro, it seems Miss upward with the pilots decided to return to the status of the plant to find and download the appropriate device drivers.

Even though we got the recovery ended, we have two questions:
Major problem: SSD drive shows the only 11.22 GB capacity!
Minor cause: a device in Device Manager does not work properly!

There is no logical explanation for the SSD size down from 32 GB to 11FR?

Think only entered in my mind was the ability to have the 2x16GB and the RAID (for some reason any) changed from RAID 0, RAID 1. But even if that's true, where Devil can I change to go to?

    > Is there any logical explanation for SSD size down from 32 GB to 11FR?

You have probably installed Win 8 on the SSD drive and this is the reason why you have only 11 GB of free space.
The laptop seems to be equipped with a 500 GB HARD drive and a 32 GB SSD.

I recommend you to check the available on the SSD drive partition table.
You can check in the Disk Management to win 8

Control Panel-> administrative tools-> computer-> disk management management

  • Satellite U940 Windows 10 update, very slow start to the top

    Hello

It looks after upgrade to win10, the SSD is not used to quickly boot up the laptop.
How can this problem be solved?

In tools, defragment disc, it shows all of my partitions as SSD drive so I can't defragment.
Why are they displayed as SSD? I think that the basic motivation is a 500 gb HHD and only a 32 GB SSD is included.

Also in the management of the computer disk SSD drive shows only 11.22 GB of capacity and is not used (all 11.22 GB free)

Help, please. I want to get the quick start of the win8.1 and at the same time be able to defragment my HARD drive.
