Satellite U940 - decrease in the life of the battery with Windows update 8.1

Hi, before the upgrade to windows 8.1 would usually get about 4 to 5 hours of battery use. However, after the update to windows 8.1 which significantly reduced to about 1.5 to 2 hours to do the same exact things without any change. I contacted toshiba who provided me with a spare battery, but this issue has not changed. I followed to the letter on the 8.1 update following the instructions.

I'm not really good with computers, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

It is not easy to say what the problem is here. In front of me, I have U940-103 with Win8.1.
Three weeks ago I ve updated original Win8 preinstalled with Win8.1 and after battery test I didn t notice any difference.
With full battery, I can watch two movies without problems so with full battery, I can use my U940 Satellite 4 hours.

It is not easy to tell if the reason for the low capacity of the battery is Win8.1.
I don't know if you want to do this, but it will be interesting to know if something will change if you reinstall original recovery image.

  • Satellite L650 - 12K - restore the factory with Windows password settings?

    Hello

Today I received my new Toshiba Satellite L650 - 12K. I went through the process of "first use" and put in place my name of user and password Windows 7 etc.

However, after a reboot, when I tried to enter my password to connect to Windows, it says it is incorrect. I tried different combinations of password I used (I know what it's like I wrote it down at the time)-ive tried caps, plugs etc but nothing works.

If I order the Toshiba recovery disks I will be able to return the laptop to factory settings and start the installation again, including Windows?.

PS - I only put an account so can't even connect you as another user.

Thanks for your time and your help.

    Gary2802.

    Hey Buddy,

Yes, the Toshiba recovery disc can restore the initial configuration (on the box settings) even you don t know the password because it will remove the whole HARD disk and restore the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba.

So don t you worry about this, Toshiba Recovery disk will help you! ;)

  • How to solve the problem with Windows Update on Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1; Module Windows install encounter error 126, impossible to run/scannow sfs or TrustedInstaller. Help, please

    Hello

First of all, thank you in advance for any advice for any help, you can offer.

A week ago I noticed that Windows Update had a backlog of updates (30-40) as I had it value updates but let me choose whether to install them. As I tried to install, I noticed download election for hours but no visible progress in the taskbar and only a few updates installed on restart. Try to check the updates of similar results. I tried a number of solutions suggested here as a tool for troubleshooting Windows Update, but it made that seem to clear my list of updates to uninstall and make sure Windows Update has been under the impression that I had never checked the updates, apparently a worsening of the problem like today no update appeared and I encountered error 8007000D.

I've tried other options like Windows system update readiness tool and tried to run the sfc/scannow System File Checker, but what who would not (cannot start service repair) I grew more and more worried. On recommendation from other forums, I tried also to start TrustedInstaller in command prompt, which does not. Unfortunately, I had run a Disk Defrag and clean-up recently which had been deleted and (unbeknownst to me) my last restore point. The root of the problem seems to be the Windows Modules Installer, which does not start when you are prompted in Services (error 126), something wrong with the registry may. So reluctantly, I tried to perform a repair installation using a downloaded iso, I burned onto a DVD (insured was also Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit SP1). However, even if it doesn't seem to work, it is constantly check for installation updates (unless this is supposed to last several hours?) or if I opt not not to check, it pass the compatibility check and then fail in the second stage (collection of files, settings, and programs). I tried several times, once in offline mode with my disabled (Norton) antivirus and once in clean boot mode.

I don't know what other options I have. I would like to avoid a clean as much as possible installation, because my computer (HP laptop) still seems to operate normally (for the moment) outside the impossibility to install Windows updates (via Windows Update or directly from Microsoft, it seems), but I think it would just leave vulnerable more and more over time. Has anyone else had similar problems and has found a way to solve? I'm not a computer expert so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    2. What are the failed updates?

  • Can satellite L300 - I replace the battery?

    Hello

I need your help. I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 and I have a problem with the battery, she throws herself into a short period of time. The battery model No. is pa3534u-1brs. I wonder if I can replace this with another battery that lasts more than 2 hours.

Do you know something about this?
    Can you help me?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Of course you can replace the battery, why not?
You can replace the battery with the same or another that is compatible with your laptop.

  • I've corrected the 10 Feb Windows update BSOD issue. What to do next?

Like many others my infographic died with a BSOD after the windows update Feb10th. Returning the suggested KB977165 had no effect, but fortunately after returning all the updates, my computer is back to life.
I have now a computer with windows update disabled with an update waiting that I suspect is causing the BSOD again if I turn on updates.
The various forums etc I found will tell you how to recover your computer on but none that I have found tell me if I can go back to windows update or how carefully remove any update caused the BSOD.
I haven't tried the "no support for Windows Update problems" for an answer and gave with an automated response telling me to try here.
Can someone please point me to a 'next steps' to recover completely from this?

I've heard reports of infected, media files cj. The two movies and songs that have been downloaded through Limewire.  If I hear anything else about it, I will be sure to post it here. All the protection we use still depends on who is using the keyboard or mouse click.

Suggest that you scan the system with Malwarebytes anti-malware , too.  Download the free version, install and allow update when installed.
Then click on the button scan and use the default quick scan setting. Once the scan is complete click on the button to display the results.
If sure all detected object is checked and then click on the button select Remove.
If nothing is detected, I would start the system into safe mode and do a Full scan, too. It will take time to finish but worth it.

One way that you would be able to be almost certain to 100% that you have detected and deleted all the bad creatures is to shoot on the hard drive, install it as a slave on another system and then scan the HD active.
Or you can create a BartsPE or Linux boot cd and the scanner without having to shoot HD.

Anyway is not elegant, to say the least, and not give the same level of confidence you would have with (ugh) formatting and reinstalling.

What are the differences between Windows updates and automatic updates from Microsoft Updates?

While Windows Update provides updates specifically for Windows, Microsoft Update expands the service to download and install updates for other Microsoft software, such as Microsoft Office and Windows Live [as well as Silverlight & Microsoft Security Essentials]. Update automatic is a feature that allows you to configure your PC to automatically download and install updates using each service, making it easy and convenient for you to keep your current Windows PC.

    Source: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windowsupdate/FAQ.mspx>

If you disable Microsoft Update, your default update source is "reversed" update of Windows, but it does NOT neutralize automatic updates.

  • Problem with Windows update during the installation of the printer

I tried several times to install an older printer to the Epson (Stylus Photo 925) on a computer running Windows XP Professional.  When I get to the part of the installation where I select the printer from a list in Windows this printer is not available, so I chose to Windows Update the list.  I've done several times, and the list of Epson printers is actually reduced after selecting the 'Windows Update' button.  Its unusual because a few weeks ago, I did the same configuration for a new machine of Windows 7 and Windows Update added this printer to the list.

I should add that my printer is on a print server if the installation is a bit more detailed than just plugged in the USB cable and installation.
