  (a) press the Windows key + X, select Device Manager.
  (b) right click on network adapters.
  (c) click on properties and select the power management tab.
  (d) uncheck the box allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

  Looks like this has been caused some my driver problem with Windows 8.1 and I guess that's with HP SimplePass such that it would not recognize the keyboard and the trackpad after waking up to use it.

  I have upgraded to Windows 10 that looks like a solved the problem.

  I recommend that you install all updates.

  Win XP Home uses the same drivers as WinXP. In this case, everything should work without any problems.

  A little late on the answer, but he had nothing to do with food. I was able to solve the problem by turning off the computer, unplug and burst the battery from the motherboard, let it rest a bit, then put it back together and bam, I'm back in business.
