Scam phone calls from people claiming to be with Microsoft
This morning I received an unsolicited telephone call here in the UK fom someone in a call centre (sounded Indian) who informed me that he was calling from Microsoft and that they were aware that my PC had acquired some malware and I sit at my PC and he would talk to me by find. I told him I wasn't happy to do and that my PC was protected by Norton 360, which has been updated regularly be he assured me that he would not have access to my PC. I had trouble hearing him because there's an echo on the line whenever I spoke, and he said he would ring me back, so far he did not.
I see on the forums there are similar issues in the USA with details where things such as this report. can someone tell members where I can report it to the United Kingdom?
Thank you

Received a call from someone claiming to be with Microsoft, it is a call or a scam?
Hi all
I live in Switzerland, but am British and a mac user (no groans please) although I Mac office installed. In any case, tonight I received a call from an Asian woman of this phone number 00441865600154, the 1st time, I pressed the wrong button and cut them but they were recalled to work and she said she was from MS and my computer downloaded hacking software and had it flashed an alert at Microsoft. The line was very very bad and I've been cut called the number back and I just domestic type normal BT mail voice... scam or real?MS have the ability to track these things, and how they know my phone number to the House Switzerland?
I am a little freaked by the present, any help would be greatly appreciated. It is a scam, Microsoft does not call for end-users, because I don't think that they follow everyone. All calls more like this contempt please and offer the information for them. Total scam.
They probably bought a list of phone numbers from somewhere or they get telephone directories in Europe. Not too sure about all other methods. That would be my guess.
I hope this helps.

Not a Question - but a warning about receiving a call from someone claiming to be with Microsoft
I just got a phone of a person who has identified one a technician for Windows. He entered a dialogue seermed as if he was familiar with the recent problems with my computer. (I did several searches online for answers of support recently from this site). He kept asking questions about allowing their technicians to help me with my computer. I asked for a callback number. He couldn't or wouldn't give me a. The call number is blocked. He finally admitted that he was not related to Microsoft, but rather by a www.onlinebusyexperts.net company. Just a warning do not allow access to your computer or give it to any password, etc.. They are just trying to sell technical support coverage. This look like a call out of the country, based on the focus, etc.

No, it's much worse that "just try to sell technical support."
coverage. " It's a complete scam and a very common these days.
They won't do anything of any value for you, no matter how much you
pay them. And if you leave them in your computer, who knows what that
too bad they did here or what they stole confidential information. So if you have done so, I highly recommend that you do both of the following
immediately:1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.
2. change all of your passwords, especially banks or other
financial sites.

I received a phone call from someone claiming to be windows and I have stupisly access to my computer, but does not give them the credit card details. This could be a problem
Hello Ann,.
If you allowed them access to your PC, then it is a problem. I considered reinstalling my OS and change all my passwords. It would also make sense, if you use the online banking etc., to inform your bank that you have a security hole on your PC. This will alert them to anyone using your current password to the Bank etc.

* Original title: defraud my computer
I got a phone call from a benny edwards who said Microsoft had found problems with my computer and the pirates had gotten him. As I have had some problems recently with the computer, I thought it was authentic and fell for it? After a long telephone conversation, he forced me to accept that my Bullguard anti virus and my malware Remover is not enough to protect the computer and forced me to buy a program from Microsoft (this man of course) not microsoft. It supports the remote computer, and then forced me to give him my details, name, address, telephone number and age and of course the fool that I am, my credit card number, the penny dropped when he asked the Envoy of money via western union. When I told her that I was closing the phone call, he told fort and wiped a number of things from my computer, the computer wasn't sure. I ran my scanner (twice) bullguard, run my anti malware program, changed my password and order my credit card, is there something more I can do?
To protect yourself, your information and your PC, follow these steps:
- Change your computer password, change the password on your main email account and change the password for all accounts, including your Bank and credit.
- Immediately scan your PC with the Microsoft Security Scanner to see if you have the tools malicious/phishing software installed on your PC.
- As a third step, I recommend that you run the verification of Security Essentials on this page. The check will ensure that the security features in Windows are normally very active and running.
- Personally, I have a clean Windows installation, because something could have been tampered with.

I received a phone call from someone claiming that I had a virus
I received a phone call from the India, claiming I had a virus, and it seems that I do... I followed the steps, they gave me, but I was unable to give them remote access to my computer (IE; take control). I found out because it is a scam.
As they were unable to access remotely are they still able to access my personal information?
And will install an antivirus on my computer to get rid of the virus known as I have now?
Thank you.
Hello
Looks like a scam. Please do not hear these calls. If they failed to take control of your computer, then there is no need to worry.
I suggest that you download, install and run Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if it helps to flush out the virus.
I would also say that you used your main security software of Microsoft Security Essentials .
