Scanning with Mac OS 10.6.1 and C4780

All-

I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.1 and just bought a HP Photosmart C4780.  I can print and copy documents very well.  The problem is when I try to scan documents.  If I use the button on the C4780 an error message is displayed.  If I use HP Photosmart Studio and use the scan key a scanner is not detected.  On the other hand, when I go to 'System Preferences' and 'Printer & Fax' the C4780 appears.  When I press the scan button, the scanner will work, but I am now using MacBook Pro software and the HP software not... any suggestions?

I printed a wireless network Test report and any specified summary diagnosis was a 'PASS '.  In addition, I does not use a USB connection, but thanks to my wireless network.

Bottom Line: I can scan documents using software MacBook Pro, but not the HP software.  Work of printer and copier.

All-
After posting this message I tried to update my computer and I received an update from HP.  After you install the update, all functions on my HP Photosmart C4780 work.

If you are using Snow Leopard: If you have loaded the software from the CD for the printer HP and unless your CD says it supports in particular 10.6 Snow Leopard, you need to uninstall the software by using the "scrubber":

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard / click Uninstall HP
Click on continue
Highlight your device in the left pane
Hold down the Ctrl and Opt Cmd and click on uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall all hp software. (At this point, if you continue, all HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click on continue and let it finish

Restart your Mac

Now run a software update.

Then, remove and reinstall the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.

Hi midandco and welcome to the Forums of HP!

I see that you are looking in the scanning options.  I would like to help.

As there is no software available for Mac OS X 10.9 HP, you are advised to use the driver of digitization of the OS from Apple.  I'm including a document I would recommend using, title v10.9 OS X Mavericks: installing and using the printer on a Mac.  There is a section called "How to scan with Apple software update driver?"  This should help to address the issue.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

Thank you very much, it works, but all I had to do was remove the printer and run 10.5 installation. I was then able to scan through HP Director, without taking other measures.

    Best regards, David

How can Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if so, I install it?

If you mean Photoshop CS6, yes it is. Simply run the installation program.

If you mean Photoshop 6, none that is too old. It was made for older PPC Macs. It will not install

If you mean that Photoshop Elements 6, please see the forums of Photoshop Elements for advice on this.

  • HP Photo Smart D5110 will not scan with Mac OS 10.9

Help. I've looked everywhere and can't always come up with a solution to scan from my Photosmart. Worked fine until I upgraded to Maverick. Thank you!

WelchSHello and welcome to the Forums of HP, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see that you are looking in your scanning options. I would try to help.

Due to the age of the printer, there is no HP software for this printer on Mavericks.  You can, however, use the characters of basic Mac OS and drivers to scan.  I'm including a document on the installation and using the printer on a Macthat should help you to solve this particular section of the document titled "How to scan with Apple software update driver?"

  • Scanning with Mac desk jet F2235 all-in-one

Hello! I inherited this all-in-one deskjet. I have a Mac with OS X air 10.7.5, connected the printer directly to it. As usual, she immediately identified software and used (this time for 2000 series printers). His print perfectly. BUT it is not the scanner. If I press the button scan in the printer flashes some time and nothing happens. And in the mac driver it doesn't seem to be a facility for scanning, only for printing. The scanner itself does not work. I have chenged the cartridges and he asked to scan the Kaleidoscope page and it worked. It also analyzes to make copies.

I appreciate any help! I need to analyze something urgently! As it has been so well printing, I assumed sweeping would simply be too easy. Thank you!

    Welcome to the @ManaCamacho forums.

I read your post about scanning with your Deskjet F2235 and Mac OS X 10.7.5. As you have noticed, there are no drivers available for your printer with 10.7 model, i.e. There is no software of scans included (Deskjet F2235 drivers).

However, this link can help you analyze without using HP software: Deskjet F2235 and Mac OS X 10.7

Some information of the 10.8 Guide can help out too: how Scan: 10.8

  • Problems with Mac OS 10.5.8 and HP 2355xi PSX

My HP PSC 2355xi worked fine when I had a Windows PC.  Since obtaining the Macbook Pro, I've tried several times to download the printer drivers for Mac on the site of HP without good results.  I usually drop and uninstall.

Yet once, I tried to download the printer driver to 2355 for my Mac OS from the HP website.  I've never been able complete the installation because the error of "trap monitor" lights up and installation closes.   I have all my updates installed Apple.  My printer will print and copy but it will not scan.  However, the real problems are the constant error messages.) Every ~ 45 seconds, I get the trap monitor error message and I have to click on one of the 3 choices to get rid of it.  I tried all 3 choices, nothing is done.

'The monitor application trap HPIO close unexpectedly.  Mac OS and other applications are not affected.  Click on restart to start the application.  Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple. "Or I can click on ignore.

I also have this error with less frequency.

"An item in the folder Startup Items (Library/StartUpItems? HP IO) doesn't have the proper security settings.  Using this object can cause problems.  If you have confidence at that point fixed securitys settings, click on fix.  So always that this point be used, click on disable.  "Stop using this object and show this message again, click on decide later.

I looked and did not have a Library/StartUpItems.  I tried to fix the last time I installed and it did not work.  I clicked on decide later on this installation, but I'm afraid to click on disable.

It is not worth dealing with error messages ever minute or less in order to have this printer.  It's all just too old and not scan with a Mac OS?

    Trust me.

Welcome to the HP Forums, it's a great place to get help, find answers and advice,
Thanks for posting your request, I'll be more than happy to help you

If I understand the scan does not work on the BONE of the Sierra.

Don't worry, even if the following document does not mention Sierra, the Apple article will guide you through the steps to scan through

    • Printers and Fax preferences in system preferences
    • Scanner / printer queue

The basics of the Mac: using a scanner

I also suggest to use the Apple Scan while you wait for the HP software update. You can use the link below to confirm that your printer is still compatible with your operating system: software of the printer and scanner for macOS Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, and the Mavericks.

  • HP Officejet 4632 All in One – scanning with a vertical line through the document.

Just bought the machine less than a month ago.  Faxes and prints fine and until last week was the sweep for our laptops beautifully... but now is scanning with a dark vertical line up and down the sheet about 1/3 in the document.  What is the cause and how can I "fix" it?

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Hi Rohi63.

I understand that you have a 4632 Officejet which becomes a vertical line what it is scanned. I'm sorry to hear that, but I'll do my best to help you.

This seems not only to be the case when using the automatic document feeder, or the glass flat?

Usually something like this is caused because there is something on the glass. If it only happens when you use the scanner, please get a lint cloth and some glass cleaner (Windex or water if nothing else is available) and wipe the entire surface of the glass for scanning. If this only happens when scanning via the charger, you will see there is a separate strip of glass on the left looking at the scan glass, and you can focus your cleaning there.

If this does not resolve the issue please try the steps in cleaning several times, but if nothing seems to evolve, please make sure that the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet so that we know, that he has all the power it needs.

Hope this helps, have a nice day!

  • No scanning with hp PSC 1410 printer and a Mac

I used an all-in-one hp PSC 1410 with a PC running Windows XP and everything worked fine.  Now, I had to connect it to a Mac and I can't use the scan function.  I think that the driver is installed in my Mac does not include the scan function.  I looked for a driver on the hp site and everything I found was drivers with all functions only for Mac OS X 10.6.  My Mac is Mac OS 10.5.8.  Where can I download a driver that includes the function of scan to my Mac?  Or do I have to by another hp all-in-one?

    Have you tried this?

  • Cannot scan with the new printer HP Envy 5660 using Mac running iOS 10.10 Yosemite

You just bought a new HP Envy of 5660.  Has been guaranteed by the sales staff, it was totally compatible with Mac Yosemite.  It is not the case.  The CD supplied with the printer software is not functional with Yosemite.

I did research online and you have the printer to print wireless, printing from my iPhone and copy.  Not sure how I did TI-trial and error and 2 hours of time!

I can't scan.  HP Web site says that their software must be installed, etc, etc, and then use the HP utility function.   Can't do because the CD is not compatible.

Any suggestions?  I don't want really worries the printer back to Amazon.  I called HP and they said I can't talk to their Tech Department., but that's all.  Appreciate any help.  I'm not a true geek.
