Seagate Expansion Desktop 1.5 to external hard drive

What happens when we go wrong, no disc to reinstall?

What happens when it goes wrong, you need to ask to Seagate.  These are problems with Microsoft products, MS do not Seagate drives.

The HARD drive still works fine with my windows XP laptop.

  • Seagate GoFlex Desk USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is not detected at startup, when you use USB 3.0

Hey there, I was wondering if someone can help with this. Basically, my works fine external HDD so I boot to windows and then plug it into a USB 3.0, but if I leave it plugged in as I would like and reboot or shutdown and return to the reader don't launch and Windows does not detect it correctly.

I am on Windows 7 64 bit, have an i5 - 3570 k and a sabertooth z77 mobo. USB drivers are updated, the intel one controller as the asmedia one, the bios is up-to-date, near as I can tell everything is up-to-date, but this hard just don't have it. It doesn't matter what USB 3.0 port it is plugged into you just cannot get starter. You can feed the cycle only and that will do the trick, but I don't want to do every day. If plug you it into a USB 2.0 port, so that it works exactly as it should here is my solution.

Now, I tried to contact Seagate and they suggested that I update my drivers, even if I told them that I had updated my drivers, which was great. Clearly, they have nothing useful to say. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Can I use an external hard drive that is compatible to Windows on a Mac through reformatting?

I bought a Seagate Expansion 4 TB USB 3.0 hard drive.

    F8 & PSC = 1 https://www.Amazon.com/GP/product/B017KE8OG0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?IE=UT

But it is only compatible with Windows.

Can I reformat the hard drive on my MacBook Pro - or it would even rise not?

If so, what format to use? Mac OS extended (journaled)?

    Thank you!

PS: I tried to put this in the Mac system software, but I could not find in 100 + element of submenu. I must say the redesign of the forum makes it much more difficult to use, and it is almost impossible to find positions in some themes that were available in the old form by a simple click on a symbol. It feels like Apple wanted to have as bad an organization like Google (endless sub-menus in otherwise good work pro apps e-mail) and be too cryptic in its structure than that of Windows. Apple, please go back to the simple user interfaces that can be understood by logic. Yes, I tried to put this comment in a comment forum, but I could not find.

    1. Yes, you can.

    2. Yes.

  • Seagate external HARD drive expansion will not identify Windows 7 x 64. OK in a first time and fine on Vista x 86.

Recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 Vista Home Premium x 86. Under Vista, everything was fine. Less than 7, my Seagate expansion (1.5 TB) hard drive initially was recognized (I have iTunes library I can't play to prove :)) after a few days using 7, however, I lost the external HARD drive. I get the error message is "software device driver is not properly installed." In Device Mgr, it says it's an "unknown device" with the yellow! triangle. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) "appears in the details of the device. No updated drivers are available. Windows updates are up to date, nothing helps. Restart, reinstall, restore driver, deactivation, nothing works. Tried to update my BIOS, but it is already the latest version of Dell. Trying any other Dell Update, what it offers is the Download Manager, but not actual updates I select. I'm not allowed to use this player all of a sudden, after that it worked fine for a few days!

Specific features of the system are as follows:

Name of the operating system Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Thanks in advance for any helpful info!

All this occurred within three days of using Windows 7 x 64, so I don't think there is a previous restore point to go back to. However, I would not I install updates to be rendered unusable and allow my system, and their insecurity. And, as stated in my original post, I have gone through the drivers to uninstall or disable normal, remove, reinstall, etc. etc. without help.

An update my original post, I finally got the unit of work, although not as fast as it was in Vista x 86. I did back up the device to a laptop from Vista Home Premium I have, let it load the drivers it needs, and then after reconnection to 7, it has been working well, but overall slowly in read/write functions and clicking on a lot more than he did primarily when operating. What I went through get this thing to work, I think that the currently loaded driver is for a 32 bit OS, and there is no update (again) for 64-bit. I leave it alone, because it is functional, and if it is not recognized after the next set of Windows updates, I guess I have to restore to a previous image.

Dell doesn't seem to have anything for her, and Seagate plans explicitly on their site that they don't provide drivers for this HARD drive while referring to Microsoft or the manufacturer of the equipment for drivers.

  • Seagate external hard drive / / no display

Recently I bought a Portable Seagate 2 TB external hard drive for my MacBook Air. I put all my movies, music, ext documents on my hard drive with my important homework. The reason why I did was reset my mac, then return all my old documents, photos ext, back to their place of origin. I have managed to do and frees a lot of space. A few days after my MacBook fell asleep with a connected external hard drive and now the hard drive is no longer present on the desktop or in finder. I am able to find in my "disk utility" , but for some reason, it shows the hard drive passed out faded gray and full? I tried to hook up with different cables and on the various devices as well. Also sang the first aid option in "disk utility" with no other results. I have contacted apple support and found out it was the external hard drive with the problem, so they couldn't help me. They then redirected me to Seagate Support, and I had already tried the methods they gave me (see list above). I was wondering if anyone here on communities of Apple has experienced the same problem as me, it would be that much appreciated advice you may have. I have important files that I need to recover.

    Help, please!

Had a similar problem with external hard drive WD also on model MBA early 2015. Found if I disconnect the external hard drive restart MBA and then reconnect the external hard drive it was working normally again.

Another thing I tried was still unplug HD plugin MBA on sector and re - a SMC.

  • External hard drive Seagate

Since the upgrade to Sierra, my Macbook will not recognize when my external 4 TB of Seagate hard drive is connected (no problems before the upgrade).  Another problem is that when I click on the Finder icon in the tray, opens a finder window, then whole screen turns black momentarily, then returns to the top with all the icons, but the finder window is now gone.

You must update the Paragon NTFS driver. You can find the updated version on the Seagate support site at:

  • FAT32 formatting for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista

How to format FAT32 file system for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista?

    Hi MVRMVR,

Windows will work generally only format a drive in FAT 32 if it has a capacity of 32GB, no more. To format in FAT32, Yes, would need to create multiple partitions. This, of course, you don't want to do.

I have not tried to format a large drive in FAT 32 but I guess that any third-party partitioning software (Acronis, Paragon etc.) would be able to do it without any problem. Alternatively you can do it from the Windows command prompt. For more details, see the link below:

My Seagate Free Agent Desktop does not recognize the hard drive on my new computer with Windows 8. Although I can still use it to save and transfer all the data from one to the other, I lose the functions in the menu of the Seagate such as backup and synchronization. It worked fine on my old computer that worked on Windows XP. I tried Troubleshooting compatibility mode and that did not help.

The message in the Seagate Manager appears as:

  • Really slow copying files to iMac to Seagate external HARD drive

I have an iMac mid-2011 running El Capitan, and I'm having a problem copying through large files to my TB 5 Seagate external hard drives.  The copy process is so slow that it is useless to try to back up files more.  Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?  I found a thread from 2013, mentioned that Spotlight indexing is the problem, but no luck so far.  Anyone got any ideas?  Thank you!!!

What size is the drive? How are you connected to it? How big are the files?

  • Seagate 2 TB external hard drive does not register

I almost always took care to disconnect the drive safely, and continued to work well when he is accidentally unplugged (only happened 3 - 4 times). Today he did not appear in the office or in the finder, the responses in this thread, external HARD drive Seagate will appear not in place were a little helpful but did not fix my problem. Here are some of the facts of the case, somehow:

    • I use a 2012 MacBook Pro running El Capitan with a 1 TB hard drive (this was added later when the original drive has failed)
    • External hard disk was used to transfer large files a bit to a laptop running Windows 8 and was not ejected safely from this computer
    • The reader is displayed correctly on other MacBooks (tested today) and all files are in order.
    • The drive appears in the report of the system but does not appear in the disk utility.
    • The drive does not appear in the Seagate dashboard that was installed when the car was purchased.
    • The drive has two partitions: one for Time Machine and the other to the format to work on Mac and Windows to store normal files.
    • My MacBook has been impossible to open a .dmg file today, unconnected with. I do not have this issue.

I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thank you!

  • How to partition an external hard drive Seagate

My old external HD Time Machine does not so I bought a 2 TB Seagate Backup more Portable Drive to replace it. It has been formatted for Windows but provided a configuration "NTFS_ Mac download for_ I ran. I'd like to partition the drive & use 1 TB for Time Machine.

When I go into disk utility, I cannot and select the Seagate HD, the choice of the Partition is grey and not selectable.

Any suggestion how to get this HD formatted correctly so that it is recognized in disk utility?

I guess that the external hard drive is formatted NTFS, so disk utility does not have to perform all the tasks in this topic. It you can't format it on some Windows system with the FAT file system? Once the FAT is made, the Mac of THE it reformats with HFS. However if you want to do with the above partition size (1 TB HFS and 1 TB NTFS or FAT) then can try you with a disk management utility.
