Search by file name only in Windows 7

How I just search for the contents of the file or folder name - when I search currently I receive hundreds of files and that he will eventually do a manual search - why windows 7 changed from windows Xp?

You can enter this in the search box

name of the file:

for example

filename:elephant

or

Try using SearchMyFiles instead of Windows search - an Alternative to search files from Windows + duplicates search instead.  The download link is near the bottom of the page, just above the table of foreign language version.

SearchMyFiles may be added to the context menu of Windows Explorer to make it easy to start.  His search folder then has the current folder already entered in it.  To configure this, look in the main window of the Options menu & select the last entry in the Explorer context menu.

  • How do you search a file name with parenthesis in there?

    Received a ton of files with duplicates, I need to delete.

  • Auto fill the file name only

    Hello

    For starters, I'm a very low level starting with JavaScript.  I understand what it is and can do, but I have no idea how to write it, and I was not able to learn again.

    Can someone help me please find/write a script that can be defined as an action on a text field to automatically fill in the name of a form file (similar to how would work a script that fills the current date).  My goal was to put right in the footer, and I thought there was no way that would not have Acrobat a few step has already set up to do this, but after about 4 hours of research, I have not found something that works for me and it really keeps me upward.  I found a few things that populate the number page, date and then file name or path. But I want only the name of the file to fill in the lower right corner, in a small, gray.

    I would greatly appreciate the knowledge of anyone on this!

    Thank you!

    Stef

    If you want just the current file name, you can do the following:

    Go to the calculation of the field and under custom script tab, enter the following

    This.documentFileName = Event.Value;

  • Function to the file name only

    Dear gurus
    I have a full path as C:\ABC\AAA\BBB\a.txt
    I use this function to get the name of one file, like a.txt.

    number of V_LENGTH;
    v_filename varchar2 (100);
    Start

    V_LENGTH: = length (p_fullpath);

    I'm looping 1.v_length
    If substr (p_fullpath, i *-1, 1) = "\" then
    v_filename: = substr (p_fullpath,(v_length-i) + 2);
    "exit";
    end if;
    end loop;
    Return v_filename;
    End get_filename;

    I also want the path only. How can I do?
    is it possible this function I get?

    If not can you please tell me how can I retrieve the path only from the full path with the file name?
    I get the file a.txt name now, I want to C:\ABC\AAA\BBB

      select 'C:\ABC\AAA\BBB\a.txt' filepath from dual

  • Applications Windows XP Startup - Bug: the .exe file name only, not the full path

    Using Windows XP, run-msconfig-startup online online, only the name of the Executive file of the Applications that load and boot at startup are shown - this name sometimes not easily indicates he belongs as to which Application.
    Therefore, it becomes difficult to decide to uncheck (stop autoloading at startup) or not - unless the full path to its location is revealed. But this small window no poster not the full path - even if the mouse pointer is hovered over an entry in the list of applications.
    Third-party software (AnVir Task Manager Free) displayed the full path when the mouse pointer is moved to an entry.
    Microsoft should take the queue and improve this Service / installation / functionality, please.

    On my Windows XP, there is a 'Command' column / window for the start of the tab that displays the full path to the file.  If this column is not wide enough to show the entire path, place your cursor on the line that separates the column header in order for the column heading 'Image '.  The cursor turns into a line with arrows pointing to the left and right upright.  Click and hold the mouse button down and drag to the right.  The column will expand and a horizontal lift will open down to scroll all right.

    If this does not satisfy your needs, try the more technical version of msconfig Microsoft-"Autoruns".

  • The search for file names with a tilde ("" ~ ")

  • Unable to find files and folders using Windows Search

    Original title: Windows search returns no results, but only for a single user - another user works very well - Windows 7

    All of a sudden windows search of files and folders (from windows Explorer) do not return results - even if I'm looking for in a folder with a file name that I know is in there.  However, it works for the other user on this system.

    The things that I tried or looked at who did not work:

    • Configuration of the default folder options.
    • reconstruction of the index
    • sfc/scannow - said "windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them.  I have the CBS. If necessary log file.
    • research done that windows has been archived 'Tour of the windows features turn on or off.
    • Ran the registry of Windows Search - he said that he fixed two things (cannot tell you what they were now), but still, it does not solve the problem. When I run it says once again that there are no errors.
    • I checked this registry key:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced\\\ and key Start_SearchFiles - which was set to 2, the default
    • Under Customize Start Menu - search with public folders is selected under search for other files and libraries.

    It still does not work.  The search box in the start menu seems to work, but not for anything I get.

    Frustrated!

    I just changed from windows XP pro to win 7 pro 64.  For twenty years, I used the "Norton File Manager" who does not work under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  I became dependent on its ability to search relatively sophisticated as by date range, size, content, name, etc.  I guess that Windows 7 has something like this, but I'm not.  Can you help me?

    I recommend two different third-party search programs, both free:

    1. search everything, which is faster if you search by file name
    (http://www.voidtools.com/)

    2. agent Ransack, which is the best for finding content, etc.

  • Why can not only search for files that begin with a particular character or Word?

    We have always been able to do in previous versions of Windows by typing: S *. *

    In Windows 7 If this is something that has a ' anywhere in the file path or name.

    As you have discovered, Windows indexes now better informed than before. So what was once a file name filter is now a search through file names, content and more - a bit like a search engine.

    If a search for S. * may train with aSunday Slippery Slopes.docx or Fans.jpg C:\ path.

    Fortunately, you can precede your search term with the domain that you particularly interested. For example, try System.FileName: ~<> or filename:F *. *
