Security risks associated with backups

If an administrator has all the privileges of a backup such as Veeam servers infrastructure, technically a VM could be saved somewhere, it shouldn't be, or restoration work could be done in a place where it shouldn't be, so that the virtual machines can be compromised.  As a point of reference for Vmware infrastructure, my security target level is 2 risk profile.  What should I do and how I have to go to secure backup infrastructure?

Hello

The only way to get control is to limit what the admin account can do on the restoration. That is, anywhere read nice things, but writing in specific data warehouses. You can make and take control. In this way it is impossible to restore without going to specific locations.

Yes, when you create a self-signed, you are prompted for the password, and you need to re - enter whenever you sign something. In addition, the private key file must be available on the computer used to sign (so just guess that the password doesn't get you very far).

  • Ran Malwarebytes & two threats were each one with the same name: PUM. Disabled.SecurityCenter. fact that associated with MSSE PUM & the boxes unchecked in MS security Center.

    Original title: PUM. Disabled.SecurityCenter

I recently removed "patch system" of my Dell computer XP. Malwarebyte s was the only software to do. MSSE caught, but couldn't fix it. I then updated & ran MSSE on my Toshiba - no threats not found. I then ran Malwarebytes & two threats were each one with the same name: PUM. Disabled.SecurityCenter both at the Date of the registry in HKLM\SOFTE\Microsfot\SecurityCenter\AntiVirusDisableNotify & HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsfot\securityCenterFirewallDisableNotify.  These two have been listed bad: Good (0) (1).  In the Malwarebytes wesite, I read that this has something to do with MSSE. In a commentary, he says it occurs if, in the MS Security Center, the notification "Notify me if my computer might be at risk because of my virus protection software settings" is unchecked.  I then went ahead & check all 3, firewalls, viruses & automatic updates. My computer seems to work well, except that the fan runs all the time (there are a lot of processes running & the CPU usage is very--often 100%, but the computer works fast).

My questions are: 1) the PUM associated MSSE & the boxes unchecked in MS security Center; (2) should I click on "ignore" in the Malwarebytes scan? 3) was right to check all the boxes in the center of security - "altert me if my computer may be at rist b/c of my xxx software settings?  Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

    (1) is associated with MSSE PUM & the boxes unchecked in MS security Center;

The following thread might answer this question: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=69859

    (2) should I click on "ignore" in the Malwarebytes scan?

    Yes

    3) was right to check all the boxes in the center of security - "altert me if my computer may be at rist b/c of my xxx software settings?

Only, run antivirus software at the same time. Firewall must be performed, evil-ware bytes can be run at your pleasure.

  • MCBUILDER. EXE running rampant, competing with updates for CPU and possibly associated with an update failed chess SP2 and the backup and restore

Running Vista Home Premium SP1 and the system has been slow and freezing. MCbuilder appear to be using 50 to 100% of CPU, and it is a process that seems no way of killing. I disabled in Services, but again, it seems to start without any particular reason and hinders attempts to install programs or updates vista hogging resources. This can be associated with a problem that has arisen since June because I am not able to perform backups or set restore points (gives the error "0 x 81000101 the creation of a shadow copy has timed out"). I tried to install SP2 in the hope that it will not solve the problem, but the failure of installation and install KB947821 doesn't seem to work either. As the restoration of the system is defective, I would be grateful for the pointers to the resolve or completely remove this mcbuilder problem.

You have COMODO or AVG Antii-virus installed on your system?  It is known problems with these two programs and MCbuilder.exe.  I don't have Microsoft Resource Builder Cache as a service in the Services (so I can't activate or deactivate it)-you which version of Vista to help (bit, SP-number version)?  I have 32 bit Vista Business SP2. I see no way to turn it off in order to close it with the Task Manager when it is - with the exception, but who could become annoying if it happens frequently and with multiple instances.  I could find nothing useful in Knowledge Base Microsoft on it hogging resources although I've seen a few threads using Bing (which is where I came up with COMODO and AVG anti-virus conflicts).

You can be infected by malware (which may be the origin of the program to activate and run "without reason"). While in Test Mode safe mode (press F8 during startup and select mode safe mode with networking repeatedly) to run anti-malware programs. To resolve this problem (if it is a problem) download, install, and run the following two programs: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html.  You can also try a free trial of Pandasoft (www.pandasoft.com).  Before you download pandasoft, uninstall all anti-virus program you currently use (because the installation and execution of two simultaneously can cause conflicts, freezes and all sorts of problems).  Once you have uninstalled your current AV program, download, install, update and scan using Pandasoft.  I think you might be amazed at how much she notes that other software missed.  Once complete, uninstall pandasoft and re - install your current AV program (unless you decide to spend that I did when I tried about 4 years ago).  You can also try the new, free Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx (with the same caveat that only program AV one ALONE can be installed and running on your system at any time). Restart after finishing all the scans and see if the problem has been resolved.

Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started (which can be a problem if it began all the way back in June - you should have posted here then when this process would probably have worked).  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points (but I doubt that you will have a pretty far back and forth to the system restore may not be a viable option).  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

If the system restore does not work, do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

If you do not have a floppy disk, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.

If this does not work, try to start in safe mode (repeatedly hit F8 key so that the start and go in safe mode with networking).  Then we will check some of your system files:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well it will complete with no corruption, he couldn't fix it (if there is such corrouption post here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  I bet there is something involving the program or associated with this program.

If this does not work, you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html as well as the upgrade from an earlier version of the Windows section of the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side.

I hope one of these procedures can solve your problem (probably the SFC command or controls anti-virus).  If this isn't the case, after return and we will try something else.  Return message anyway so we know how it turns out.

BTW, for update of the problems you are having with SP2, post on the Forum of Windows Update to: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads where the people who specialize in update issues will be happy to help you with your concerns and get SP2 running on your system (perhaps despite this particular problem).  As you say, it can even solve the problem - who knows.

    Good luck!

  • Technical help with theme Adobe Muse - security risk?

    Hello

I used a template/theme of Muse - themes.com get started on a website for a client and, yesterday, my free host email web client telling him that "in an analysis systematic server, we found the files that present a possible security risk, and these files must be removed immediately or this could result in a suspension of web service to complete elimination. We have placed the list of files in "blah blah blah" directory on your server. "Then, it almost seems like they threw a sales pitch for a piece of security software should I use to delete (with supplement of course). I found the file they were placed with a list of the compromise/malicious files and looked through them and I was wondering why these files were malicious and also what they would mean if I removed them, or how I could solve this problem in general. I copied and pasted from the list below... Thanks for your help in advance! EDIT: Looking at the files, it almost seems like these files are former designers wordpress web. Am I way off? Will it affect anything if I remove them?

FWIW, none of these files are either produced or uploaded by Muse. They resemble files that would be part of a WordPress installation. Note the prefix "wp" on the issues concerned.

Most likely the two files were already there when you bought your accommodation, they have been downloaded by you or someone using your account outside the Muse (using an FTP program), who was trying to install WordPress, or someone else has your username and password and using your account without your knowledge server.

  • This page has a potential unspecified security risk.

    Hello

I watched this program on several sites and I saw the same solutions related, but none have worked for me, so I thought I'd go to the source.

Here's the question: I have a link in my taskbar in my My Documents folder, that, when I try to open it, I'm presented with this message:

This page has a potential unspecified security risk.  Do you want to continue?

If I select Yes, there is no problem, and my My Documents folder opens.  However, it's a nuisance, and I would like to stop this message from popping up every time.

    Regarding my setup:

I am running XP SP2 (w / no intention to install SP3) on my desktop system I try to access my My Documents folder.  I also have a file server, that I call the USC, under Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS and sheltering a RAID 5 array and using Samba.  I have this table mapped to my desktop as Y: System.  The path to my My Documents folder is Y:\backups\my_docs.  Before a few days ago, I never had no problem with this.

I am trying to add another array of RAID 5 to this file server, and I had some problems w / Samba.  At one point, I removed this mapping, while I was testing various configurations.  When I tried to re - map, I had connection problems.  Apparently, some of the changes I made now forced me to connect to that share without providing credentials.  So, just to be clear, before that, I got this mapped drive, then set it to reconnect to the opening, and there is no problem.  If, for some reason, I never had to re - map, all I had to do was provide my credentials and it matched with or without a problem.  Now, when I map, it requires no credentials, and it is simply the share.

However, after everything that's happened, when I now, select the shortcut to my My Documents folder link, I get this notification.  I tried to delete and recreate the shortened link, but that did not help.  As I already mentioned, I had read several other sites, and I tried a few solutions, most of them of adding this share to the list of sites in my Local Intranet options w / in IE8.  I even tried under Trusted Sites.  Nothing has solved the problem.  It was also recommended that I have untick automatically detect it Intranet network, which I did, but to no avail.

Currently, my installation of IE8 is as follows:

Local intranet is set to medium-low security (I tried low, but it does not, either).  Is checked automatically detect Intranet network, and file://usc is added to the zone.

Trusted sites is set to medium security, and I have no entries in its area.

W this question, any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much.
