See snmp community string

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems that once you set snmp community name, it is removed from the display and can be seen again. No luck via the CLI also.

Is this true or am I just missing something here? If the community name is hidden then how we discover the same?

Thank you

Of NXOS, for example.

I'm trying to configure SNMP on PIX 525 and Solarwinds use tool to download the config. When I try to download the config it tells me that the community string has read only rights. Y at - it give a way RW in PIX as in routers?

For free, you can use Kiwi CatTools. You give names of username/password and it can connect to any Cisco device and upload the config. It can even create reports of diff on configs. Alternatively, you can provide a set of commands that you want to connect to devices provided and run it. It is in the same people doing the often preferred Kiwi Syslogd.

  • Unable to see java.lang.string in IOM utility API

    Hello

I am not able to see java.lang.string and java.lang.object in IOM utility API when an adapter of the entity is created. Here's what I did

    (1) created a feature adapter
    (2) adding a task
    (3) selected utility, and then click utility (excluding the two selection utility options or IOM Thor APIs)
    (4) creates a new instance
    (5) tried to select java.lang. string in the API of the application which I am not able to find.

Please let me know if this could be a problem with installation or some jar file missing.

    Thank you

    Rahul Sharma

    I tried the workaround below...

    In the adapter factory
    1. click on add a new task
    2. Select utility-> utility
    3. in the drop-down list, select tcUtilStringOperations and methods drop-down list, select the holdData() method
    4. map to the input to your string variable variable
    5. no need to map output variable. Click Save
    6. click on add new task
    7. Select utility-> utility
8 to object of the Instance selection, select the 'task return value instance' radio button and select the task of the adapter which was created above
    9. click on continue.

Now you'll see java.lang.string API with all the methods under him.

I followed this approach to make use of the API of the chain. Experts in our forum can help you the best ways to see it.

  • TMS implemented at level 14.1.1 to 'Get SNMP community name' column does not allow NULL values.

    Hello!

    I had a TMS12.2 (via 12.6 and 13.2) to TMS14.1.1 upgrade.

When I go to: systems > overview of the system and select all systems and all the settings, I get an error message.

Is it possible that 14.1 upgrade does not correctly check if the empty database fields?

How I'll fix it, did an upgrade using 14.2, or is it a sql command that must be executed

  • Change default SNMP community?

A scan of my ESXi machine security complained that I have 'public '.  I need to change that to something, but cannot find a /etc/snmpd.conf and it's really confusing, since ESXi does not support SNMP, reason for which there is no community at all?  A snmpwalk turns up a dozen lines of info, it seems that there is a snmpd, but this is not in /etc/init.d/ and put a config for it in/etc/sysconfig/so I'm at a loss.

You do not want to use the RCLI for config SNMP http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/esx_3i_rcli/vicfg-snmp.php and the configuration file is etc/vmware/snmp.xml.  ESXi supports SNMP interruptions but not obtained.

  • SNMP change

    all,

We have implemented ro snmp community strings on our network devices and it has been added to our nms. If we changed our channels on devices snmp ro, it will stop sending traps to our nms and must we re-learn the device again?

Try using the command 'snmp-server host. SNMP-server host command specifies the recipient of all SNMP notifications and is used to configure the SNMP agent to send two traps or informs to multiple hosts. It is possible to use several instances of this command to specify more than one recipient of the notification.

    See the below URL:

  • The poll by IPSEC VPN SNMP

    Hi all

I am trying to add remote Cisco switches to our Analyzer from Solarwinds network performance and I'm unable to see the community strings of switches behind our Firewall ASA across L2L IPSEC vpn tunnels.

First of all, I can ping and see all the traffic behind the firewall.   Configuration manager (NCM) works fine, it can download and download configs of the remote switches.  It's just the SNMP which does not seem to talk.  Here are the lines of configuration of the remote switches:

    SNMP-server community * RO

    SNMP-server community * RW

This configuration works fine on the other our network switches that are not accessible via a VPN tunnel.  Y at - it another line I need to add that pointing to the server from SolarWinds SNMP traffic?

When I try to add the switch to Solarwinds, he sees the IP perfectly but once I added community strings RO and RW it performs a test fails every time and will not let me continue to add the device.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!  Thank you!

    Matt

Exit to Windows firewall and check the Antivirus on Solarwinds as well. This may be the origin of the problem (a working time or does not not once). Another possibility (can be), if you have all IPS inline and inspect traffic, this could cause the issue. Check to see if any program/device in the path is kinetically limiting ICMP/SNMP packets #of.

    What version of NPM?

    Hello

Can you try to set up OMNM like this http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-switches/f/866/t/19535001.aspx

Set up two profiles of authentication in OMNM. ((1) SNMP v1/v2c and used the SNMP community string, I put on the Force 10 switch 2) Telnet/SSH using the switches telnet user ID, password and the password 'Enable' leaving him activate ID empty.

  • SNMP management.

    Hello world

I have a doubt. How to add a device to a SNMP community?.

I mean the community already exists and it is already monitorizing by a PC (monitoring tests are performed in implemantacion possible).  and there are several teams that are monitored, but are thought to put the other monitoring devices, which makes me wonder: how new devices could be added?  What I have to configure any what ACL?

    Greetings.

    Johnnantan,

The SNMP community string allows to control the device.  I recommend generally that for a company, community channels will be the same for all devices allow read-only access to the devices.  You can have several platforms of different software, surveillance devices at the same time.  I usually do not define read-write community strings or have completely different channels for RW and ACL.

The limiting factor is on the device to keep track of how many devices it may follow and the amount of information she asks monitored equipment.

If you want to control which monitors SNMP routers/switches/servers, you can implement ACLs on the channels of the community to respond only queries snmp specific devices only if they have the correct channel.  If you have the failures of access to the log list, so you can go back and find out what is scanning devices.

Do not forget that qureies snmp take processing power so that the more devices that monitor a router and with short times between requests will have a performance affect on the router or switch.

    Hope this helps.

  • WCS - model controller

    Hello

I'm new on WCS lil... I upgraded my WCS now to 5.1.64... WCS has already a couple of controllers mapped with about 40 LWAPP...

I see an inconsistency in WLC - WCS configuration, on the model of controller... When I change the configuration of the model on the WCS, it updates the WLC somehow? I am cautious about is I don't want to disturb anything either with the WLC running is, by changing something on the WCS...

I have also 2 new controllers added to the WCS... I need to set controller models for these... Can I directly configure this and associate the new WLC to the new model? Yet once, model controller in WCS will apply to the new WLC?

    Raj,

In this case, you can add new controllers to WCS with RO SNMP community strings. Then go to configure--> controllers and check the box next to one of the controller. From the controls menu select 'discover controller models. This will automatically create WCS models based on the configuration of the controller you selected. Follow the same process for all controllers.

You'd be using community RO, WCS strings would not involve no change. You will now be able to verify correctly.

  • Inaccessible Endhost

    Hi all

after reconfiguring my 4.1 snmp v2 SNMP v3 the endhost LMS are not accessible anymore. Before you configure snmp v3 I have purged the database endhost to repopulate it. After tasks are performed without endhost can be added to the repository. It just says: inaccessible.

What really a matter of snmpv3? Everytihng else works as before.

I hope someone can help me on this one, otherwise I'll have to go back to snmp v2.

    Thank you

    Concerning

NMS servers access the data of Bridge-MIB devices, get the table MAC/CAM. Because the MAC address or cam table is maintained based on the peripheral / VLAN, so request should be made by VLAN based.

Snmp v1/v2c SNMP community string indexing is used. Where the vlan is's questioned by adding the number of VLAN after the community after sign string @. Example to see the entire table mac address of the VLAN 1, if the community is test123, device could be interrogated like:

    snmpwalk-v2c - c [email protected]/ * / 10.10.10.1

The syntax is [community string]@[instance number].

For snmp v3 it is not an option, since she cannot use SNMP community string indexing. SNMP v3 context aware, what data exposes BRIDGE-MIB SNMP v3 must therefore all the MAC/CAM table.

You use contexts to obtain data by VLAN the BRIDGE-MIB with SNMPv3.Not all IOS switches support this. In general, if the device supports the command 'display snmp context', contexts will work. If this is not the case, an upgrade is needed. However, some switches (e.g. 2950 series) will never support SNMPv3 contexts. You must use v1/v2c with these switches.

Very simply, you must add context to the SNMP group to allow users to query the given context. For example, to allow users to query for frame vlan-6BRIDGE-MIB, you add something like:

Server SNMP group v3group v3 auth context vlan-6 read

You must add all these exact name after context that see you at the end of the show snmp context.

    Hello

We have installed OpenManage Essentials to manage our Dell hardware (servers, PowerEdge, M1000e of the chassis and switches PowerConnect.

  • "Show running-config" to show the output as 'technical support Show.

    Hello

I was wondering if there was a command (maybe hidden in IOS) which would allow the release of 'show running-config' to hide passwords and SNMP community strings, a bit like when you perform a command "show support"? I'm trying to limit what a customer sees (using a GANYMEDE server +) and I just want to give them another command that would accomplish this goal. Any clue?

    Thank you

    neocec

    a. Unfortunately not. You can use 'password encryption service' to encrypt your passwords. This way your passwords are not in clear text.

    b. you can then activate levels of privilege to different users and restrict access to what a user can execute commands. For example, that a user cannot perform "show tech" or "show run" at all.

    c. but in this way, you can view the output of a command completely, or restrict access to the command completely. We can not selectively display items of an output differently to different users.

    d. you can also explore using the Protocol. SNMPv3 SNMPv3 provides a security model defining new concepts to replace username - old authentication community-based and provide the privacy of communication through encryption.

  • Series router Cisco 2700 adding to monitoring

    Hi all

First of all, I'm quite new to Hyperic. I only got it up and running for a day now and I must say I am impressed if done well for developers!

    This is my problem:
I have a number of Cisco routers that are SNMP v2 enabled and configured. I know that they can give me SNMP values because I currently use CACTI to monitor and chart of their statistics. (Running IOS.)

I'm slowly moving away from cactus to Hyperic (and); That's why I want Hyperic to monitor servers and network devices.

I can easily add servers in Windows 2K3R2 no problem and I am currently monitoring services MSSQL/MYSQL/APACHE 2.2.x for now.

    I followed the instructions: http://support.Hyperic.com/Confluence/display/DOCSHQ30/Cisco+IOS

I don't use a FULL domain name for our routers so I just add the IP address of it.
I select the platform Type = Cisco IOS
I choose the Hyperic Agent on the Hyperic Server (so it will read 127.0.0.1:2144)

    Hyperic adds the router correctly.
I click on MONITOR and click Properties of the router configuration
I add the string SNMPCommunity (I know works like its used with Cacti)
    I'll leave the v2c SNMPVersion
And let interfaceIndex ifDESCR (I tried all the options ifname, ifalias as well)
The SNMPPort, I leave as 161 (I know it works as it works with the cactus).
    I click OK

I wait a few seconds and Hyperic bounces an error failed:

The configuration has not been set for this resource due to: invalid configuration: error communicating with resources: unable to connect to the SNMP Agent (v2c 127.0.0.1:161, < my snmp community string >)

What I am doing wrong? Help!

    Thanks in advance.

PS - I am VERY impressed on how it was easy to configure Apache/MSSQL/MySQL monitoring. And how AD/monitoring server is supported on the box (and how easy to set up.)

    -Pete

    Hi Pete,.

    the errormessage
' The configuration has not been set for this resource due to: invalid configuration: error communicating with resources: unable to connect to the SNMP Agent (v2c 127.0.0.1:161,).

indicates that you has not changed the router default ip 127.0.0.1 to the actual ip address address.
Please go to your Cisco 2700 platform-> inventory-> Configuration properties and to adapt the 'snmpIP' to your needs.
