Seeing flashes of power on Portege M200

My Portege M200 my power light flashes orange 10000110 (or... _ _ _.) in Morse code) what it means?

It starts flashing when I try to power will not end until I take the battery and power supply outside.
It will start flashing even though I start without battery!

Hello

When the laptop has a problem with power (e-card), power sends the hexadecimal code.
In your case, there are two problems:

-To know what this code means that you know exactly how to read this code. The binary code must be converted into hexadecimal code, and then you can compare the code with a description of the maintenance manual.
-Maintenance manual is not a public document.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do alone. Please contact nearest Toshiba authorized maintainer and leave check your laptop.

    Hello

A user of our has decided to give his cell phone, a small glass, it is true that his office is pretty hot, but personally, I don't think it's that thirst.

Fortunately, it isn't that she threw on her rather than liquid food sugars/decaffeinated, although he was on at the time of the water.

Dismantled, it the best I could and let dry yesterday, most of the impact seems to be the front left (hard drive Bay swimming) if the chip of the extreme right and memroy in the Middle seems to have averted any entry of water.

This morning when I reconnected it all, farily predicatably, don't turn on the battery power. When I plugged in the socket (at arms length) the power started flashing orange indicator - two courts, a long, two short, one long and then two short.

Had a quick movement through the user manual and the only reference to the orange light flashing on power supply is overheating and inferes is no trend in the flashig, just that it will continue until it reaches a safe temperature.

I'm sure that the wee thing is lousy but I wondered that the led power indicated and then by extension if this means that there is no room I can save as a spare (as it can denote ok more memory or chip and others).

    TIA!

HM, sounds the motherboard has been screwed upward. I don't know, but if you´re really sure that everything is well connected and so on, it should work.
Maybe the motherboard did get a small splash of this drink 'action '.

The problem with liquids and laptops is that they won´t together and after a few times "liquid spill" a PCB can get a short circuit from devices that have been in contact with the liquid.

My opinion: PCB disappeared. But that's just a theory. :)

    Welcome them

  • Seeing flashes of power to Compaq CQ45 121TX

    Hello community,

For the past 2 weeks, I observed that my Power LED starts to blink when the battery is fully charged and the AC is turned on.

I checked the manual and it said that flashing LED power can occur only when the battery is low battery indicator, which is not the case here.

Even when the laptop is in hibernation and the AC is on, LED blinks always - the rate is faster than that of when the laptop is in mode 'sleep' - almost two times per second.

I used the HP battery check and it showed that the State of the battery is Ok. Number of cycle is 117/300, load capacity is 75%.

The battery performs normally and can keep the laptop doesn't work for some time, while he is in charge, the LED keeps, until it becomes fully charged, then the light starts flashing.

The laptop runs normally without the battery too, directly on the current.

The only thing is that cell voltage 4 is given as zero mV - I know not how many cells have this battery.

My cell phone product is FQ314PA #AB4, is about 3.5 years.

Running Windows Vista Edition Home Premium SP2.

I have not installed software over the past weeks, but the phone remained cut off for about a month because I was out of town.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Please ask if more information is needed.

    Thank you!

Well, the battery monitor software did not show anything out of the ordinary.

and I have observed that for the past few days, this problem is not the case.

the LED flashes no more even when the power is on and the battery is fully charged.

Thus, it seems that the problem has disappeared mysteriously whence it.

    will update if this changes.

  • Lack of power on Portege M200 USB

I found a few posts on this topic but nothing that gives a definitive explanation of how to solve the problem of the lack of adequate power to the USB ports on my M200.

I have a burner DVD of LaCie which works perfectly satisfctorily on other computers when it is powered by USB, but does not on my M200.
I also tried to use a simple box of HARD disk with a hot spare in there and it does not work either.

I tried some of the suggestions from other threads like by unchecking the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the tab properties for the USB hub root in Device Manager. and I've updated the drivers available.

    What else to do?

    Hello

What of the external USB hub with own power?
My brother uses a USB external 300 GB HARD drive, and this feature works only if the external USB hub is connected between the HARD drive and laptop computer from other manufacturers.

I think it could be a similar problem with your external burner.

  • Not corrupt firmware? Seeing flashes of power - then it goes dead

    Hello world

I'm looking not all threads resolved these but have not found something close to my problem. I have a Linksys WRT54GX4 that worked very well for several months at least. All of a sudden I noticed that I was picking up no wireless signals to the other side of my house. While they inspected my router, the two Ethernet cable direct to the PC connections were flashing, poster of activities. The Internet port also showed activity, but the power light was NOT ON. I tried the second reset step 30 and the router starts flashing lights as if it were to start normally, but then the power light will blink and stay on for about five seconds, then turns off. I can't ping the router right here or log in via the web interface - it is physically off. Then, it will be intermittently come alive, function for a few moments, and then turn off. I have no idea what this could be. Died at this point the router? The other troubleshooting steps, I can try?

Thanks in advance for any response,

    -AJ

Try to hard reset the router for 2 minute... Unplug the power cable and plug power 30 seconds... and check if the power led is now solid... If this isn't the case, then, router is that went wrong.

  • Not enough power USB on Portege M200?

Whenever I try on my Portege m200 portable USB devices, they do not work as long as they operate in a mode powered by bus, for example without external power. I wonder if the Portege does not offer enough USB power for some devices.

    Here is what I tried:
    (1) Freecom FS 50 - a slimline dvd burner comes with 2 usb cables. According to Freecom they will be powered by usb simply by adding the power of 2 usb ports. Result: The drive is not yet seen in my m200. Using of external power supply, the drive works by usb as expected.
    (2) pinnacle PCTV 200e - external dvb - t receiver. Is recognized, but produces errors in any receiver software I've tried. However working on the FUSi Lifebook S series.

Can anyone confirm the waekness of USB ports? Suggestions or tweaks plus a train external powered usb hub?

    Hello

The USB ports provide 500mA. It is a standard USB. If the external USB devices need more power than USB ports allow in most cases the external power supply is required.
You can also try plugging the USB hub with an external power supply, then connect the external USB devices to the USB hub.

In addition, you can try to change the settings in the properties of the USB root hub.
Go to the device manager select USB hub root, select properties and go to the power management tab.
Here, you can disable the option: "allow the computer to turn off this device?

  • Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 598 MHz! Basic BACK Toshiba Service tool

Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 600 MHz

    I have a Portege M200 with a Dothan Pentium M 725 supposed to run at 1.6 ghz, but posts a 598 Mhz
frequency. I updated the bios to 1.8.

I read in a previous post "locked"...:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=63390

.. He's supposed to be a base of BACK of Toshiba utility to fix the problem. .
It is said that this is not a Bios problem...

Can someone direct me to this utility?

    Thank you!

    Gary

The answer is here... thanks all and who is responsible for:

    http://forums.Toshiba.com/T5/Qosmio-laptops/598-MHz/TD-p/194566

The key is a utility called 'pom200t1 '.

    You will need the following.

A floppy disk or if you do not have an external floppy drive, or if you are common sense to be able to boot a file from a CD player.
You must also WinImage, as all files that you download come as .ima files
    Download pom200t1 - V1.5.zip and pom200t1.zip (if if doesn't work either).

    You can find them here:

http://www.stormpaintball.com/Toshiba/pm765.bin (this one is a ditch last attempt).
Then follow the instructions on the site I posted before:

Symptom: CPU remains constantly 598 MHz.

    * Process: *.

    (1) boot in the BIOS. (Press "Esc" during the boot process, before the loading of the operating system, but after having entered your password, if you use the startup password protection).

    2) look under 'Other' category.

    (3) if the motherboard does not have enough information about the CPU, the category 'Dynamic CPU frequency Mode' appear on (you won't see it).

If the laptop is in this state that he won't ever faster than 598 Mhz until you perform the following procedure.
Note: Although this utility said it's for a Toshiba Portege M200, the particular difficulty you need may work on other Toshiba laptops.
He has worked on 3 different Toshiba Satellite Pro M15 S405s, but * USE at YOUR OWN RISK *.

    (1) start Windows and create the startup disk in the pom200t1.exe file.

    (2) boot from the diskette you just made.

    (3) in the menu, select the initial repair option 2 "set config".

    (4) in the following menu, select option 1 'Initial cofiguration"(misspelled)

    (5) after a few seconds, you should see "Writing a file is over!" and the laptop restarts automatically without asking for confirmation.

    (6) when restarting the laptop go back into the BIOS and look under 'Other' category. You should now see the "dynamic CPU frequency Mode". Make sure it is set to "Dynamically switchable" for the CPU limitation.

    7) restart Windows and make sure that the CPU can throttle in normal conditions. The Intel SpeedStep technology icon should now be in the systray. Go to the Toshiba power management / Power Saver Properties and update all of your methods to save power to use technology SpeedStep that you prefer (fixed or automatic) and mount all caps speed processor, or you can go above 798 MHz because cursors will always be to their previous settings (4 or less), while they can now go up to 7. Let me know how you go.
I have fixed the CPU now just need to find out why my fan only works when I activate it manually!

  • Can not install Windows on Portege M200

    Hello
I bought a Portege M200 opportunity. I discovered that the HARD drive was broken, so I bought a new one, plus a (160 GB)
I know the problems Porteges can do when triing to install the OS on them, so I used this tutorial for installation of the network:
    [http://blog.ryantadams.com/2008/02/01/how-to-boot-from-the-network-pxe-boot-with-tftp-and-windows-pe/ | http://blog.ryantadams.com/2008/02/01/how-to-boot-from-the-network-pxe-boot-with-tftp-and-windows-pe/]

everything worked well. then, my xp installation 'button' was grey, so I went with this tutorial:
    http://blog.ryantadams.com/2008/07/30/option-to-install-Windows-is-grayed-out-when-running-network-install/

that worked well, too. The installer kopies some files and the desire to do a restart. So he brought me to Windows PE, I typed 'wpeutil reboot' as described in the second tutorial. My PC has started again and then nothing happens.
I chossed "boot from HDD" and all I can see is a black screen with a small flashing underscore white top.

IT IS REALLY FRUSTRATING. I also tried another method, for example the back of things (like I got [my R100 to work | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=120473]), with the same result.

Thanks a lot for your help!

You have a smaller HARD drive you can try?

The M200 may be limited to 120 GB HDD due to the LBA48 137 GB limit. More info here: http://www.48bitlba.com/

Ultimately, you must use the original Toshiba Portege M200 recovery disk to reinstall Windows. You can order from Toshiba https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Portege M200 - weird display with docking station problem

    Hello

I use a Portege M200 with MS Windows Vista and the Toshiba docking station. Whenever I connected the system closed down it will start with low light and different screen resolution. The brightness can then be adjusted in Vista.

To solve the problem, I have to disconnect it, then put it in PC Mode and finally stop Vista. With the next offline boot, it works correctly and can be re-docked. Maybe it's just a lack of understanding of the system? It seems that with a rooted boot, nVidia somehow takes place or is there different profiles?

    Thank you!

    Alexander

    Hello

At first, I must say that Portege M200 is old enough laptop model and I really wonder that Toshiba supports this model of laptop for Windows Vista. You are really lucky in this regard.

In any case very important is info which edition of WXP Tablet Toshiba offered tools for/disconnect. If I remember well, it was utilitarian Toshiba Mobile Extension. Using this tool you has been able to use different settings for Bay service as well as for output screen to choose the correct resolution.

Under Vista it is controlled by Vista and, AFAIK, Toshiba does not have any special utility for this. You must also understand that procedure/disconnect (power switching power supply) is controlled by Vista and I can imagine that under Vista it does not work perfectly.

My opinion is that there is not much to do, but I hope I'm wrong on this issue. Let's see what else users of forum about this.

  • Cannot start Portege M200 from SD card

    Hello

I recently bought a used Portege M200 and I'm unable to install an operating system.

The situation: I got the laptop with a trial version basis of win XP Home Edition I couldn't use. It would not boot from external dvd player usb I bought, so I installed a linux system hd with the laptop from a friend, then install via this machine (this method does not work with windows however).

After reading many articles from those who have encountered the same problem, I decided to go and trying to boot from an sd card, which offers various possibilities to install windows.
I tried a lot of things, but still could not boot from sd.
I use an SD card of 2 GB Panasonic class 4.

-Toshiba sd-utilities (AFAIK) only work on toshiba windows machines, so that they are of no use to me
-People say that place an image of a boot on the SD disk, naming $tosfd000.vfd or $tosfd00.vfd (tried both) would make the case, but no.
-When switching to FDD-> HARD drive boot order->... or using the third option in the toshiba start screen green led beside the card reader will Flash once, but then directly boot linux from the HARD drive.

Specifications: Toshiba Portege M200, 2 GHz, bios is ACPI v.3.01 (which is a little confusing because the version the most recent that I found for the portege is 1.8)
If someone messed up the bios in installig a version that is not compatible with my laptop?

    any help much appreciated!

    Hello

really strange case, but one of the first suggestions would be to try another SD card because it is possible that the card is not recognized correctly.
A good idea would be to try some transcend cards... but just try another card and give a feedback if it worked.
It would be really interesting if it works...

    See you soon

  • From a Portege M200 battery mode screen

Hello, first sorry for my English, I am not totally bilingual.
So I got a Portege M200, with the model number: PPM21E-02QFZ-FR, serial number: 55893043G

This work of the computer laptop but fine * when I unplug the AC adapter black screen come *, when I reconnect light screen again (he continues to work, but without screen because it serves not next).

I have try the Fn + F5 combination, not worked, try to change performance settings in windows, without change.

When I go into the BIOS I can make it happen this problem even if the AC is plugged by changing the value of the field 'battery saving mode' to 'full power' to the other (when I change the screen turns off the coast).

do you know how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance

    > This laptop work well, but when I unplug the power of the screen in black, when I reconnect light screen again (he continues to work, but without screen because it does not fuel nearby).

Sorry I mate m afraid I did not understand it correctly.
If you unplug the AC adapter, the screen turns off.
But what happens if the power adapter is connected again? You say that screen lights up again, but then said you that you can work but no screen.

    So I'm confused now

In my opinion, you should check the Windows power options.
Usually, if the AC adapter should be disconnected, the laptop will switch to another power plant (battery mode).
In my opinion, you should check the settings of the power station, which is used if the AC adapter is disconnected.

  • New hard drive installed on Portege M200 but does not start

    Hello

Maybe you can try one of the below to solve your problem:

    BUT! ALWAYS keep a backup!

Boot the system with a flexible BACK (with fdisk.exe inside) to restore the MBR by typing

    FDISK/MBR

This works even on a SATA drive. Start alternative all Win2k or XP installation CD, go to the console command and issure of recovery

  • Portege M200 BIOS update running Windows 7?

    Hello

I recently took a Portege M200 and installed (via PXE - network installation) Windows 7 above. I want to upgrade the BIOS as is always in the original BIOS (1.1). I downloaded and extracted the pkg and tried to install through Windows but it says that my OS is not supported. I don't have an external CD drive or floppy drive - how do I update the BIOS? I tried to put it on a USB key, but it doesn't seem to be an option to boot from USB.

    Thank you!
    Jerry

    > I downloaded and extracted the pkg and tried to install through Windows but it says that my OS is not supported. I don't have an external CD drive or floppy drive - how do I update the BIOS?

Seems that BIOS cannot be updated because Win 7 is not officially supported on this good old classic.
However, AFAIK the VAP (value added package) is required to run an update of the BIOS. So, try to install the VAP. Choose this tool which is available for other models of laptops.

    > Anyone know where I can find a driver for it? I do not see there are 2 devices not recognized - a 'Base system device' and an 'unknown device '...

    Check this box:

This article describes how to find drivers for unknown devices.

  • delays when writing with the pec in Portege M200

I face a very obvious slow in exercising the hand writing in tablet mode.
usually, I write "with a single note" and writing is instantly displayed in normal writing on paper.
but when I tilt the screen to be in tablet mode, what I write is not displayed unless I finished the whole word, and display is normally extremely slow.
Although if I tilt the screen to normal laptop mode "with the same session a note" the speed is back to normal.
    Please notify.

    Hello
I ve tried to simulate your problem with my M200

I couldn't see a Performance distinction between modes of Tablet PC and the PC Normal.

Could it be that you´re by using the Tablet PC Modus in battery operation?
Then of course as a result of the power management the M200 runs slower.

    Good bye

  • Portege M200 - unable to access the recovery console

    Hello

Yesterday my software anti-virus let me know that a virus was trying to access my computer, had quarantined it and claimed a reboot of my Portege M200 to remove it completely. Restart, the laptop is not actually restart and just hung. It gets past the Toshiba window and crashes. I tried to start in safe mode but nothing helped. It starts to load files and crashes to a particular system file that is obviously now corrupt. I tried to enter my recovery console using Windows XP Recovery discs, but was unable to do so. The discussions on this forum have been useful, however I still have not solved the problem.

I have my product recovery DVD-ROM, but I'm afraid to use it as the next warning with her said that reformatting will lose all my work and I do not know if it will automatically reformat my hard drive (which I have no back ups of my work) or I will give a choice? Also, I see BONES of your forums, that it will correct not actually of corrupted files. I've also seen queues to make an image ghost on a floppy drive but I don't have a floppy drive on my Portege M200.

Can someone please provide me with the steps to solve this problem, as I am of 11 hours trying to solve this problem, but nothing helps!
    Thank you

You are right about image recovery. Recovery image is designed to clean BONES only and there is no option for the repair of the BONE. What you can try is to get the disc of Microsoft WXP installation and Startup Repair option.

I hope this will help you and you will be able to boot OS preinstalled. If it will work on the first back up all your important data.
