Series Edge (E) internal second hard drive

I was wondering if users of portable Edge series or E are using / used a second internal drive?

Officially, their sales staff, in this series of laptops feature to replace the optical drive with a hard disk has been removed. Their tech staff said when I asked. There is no official Lenovo adapter for E series, but some are available spare parts. Is that what someone has successfully used a Lenovo HD adapter in their E series? What the aftermarket ones? What were your experiences?

Side note: I doubt that the feature has been removed. Optical and hard drives are same. Because it's an entry-level computer, it would cost more to remove the option rather than maintain and publicly asserting that it does not work.

I doubt that they will remove the possibility of using optical drive SATA for HDD device connector. There is also the slot m2 you can use a SSD NGFF. I used 3 internal hard drive on my ThinkPad E520 and E530.

  • Newly installed internal Second hard drive not recognized

L1701X XPS laptop (running Win 10). Installed a second 500 GB WD hard drive that is not recognized in the BIOS. I've updated (flashed) BIOS to the A10 and I updated all drivers recommended by Dell Support.

If I remove the new second player and hover over the first (original) hard drive to the second vacant slot it works very well and also appears in the BIOS - so it seems to me that there is no problem with the second player port.

I tried everything I could find on the Net about it, for example, to check the connection of the second disc, but nothing done yet.

Can someone help me with this?

I'm pulling this Post because I don't get all of the possible solutions to my question.  Thanks to the two people who have asked questions.

  • Aspire V3 - 574G - internal Second hard drive

I discovered that my lappy, after tearing down, it has only a hard disk location. I counted on my STRANGE with a disk replacing hard as I don't really use it.

I looked on eBay and found the correctly sized hard drive caddy and a large SSD. I'm planning to move my slow Western Digital 5400 RPM drive hard to the caddy and install the card Sandisk Ultra II 480 GB about the location of the main hard drive.

My question is: it'll work? I've seen reports that this configuration * rarely * does not, but many reports, videos and tutorials that it will work with any laptop. It makes sense since the ODD uses the SATA standard after all. I would like just to confirm.

If your optical drive location has a working sata connection, there is no reason why it wouldn't work.

  • Adding a second hard drive internal in a T510?

I bought the new 510 with the internal hard disk of 500 GB 7200 RPM, and I think about adding another one with the same characteristics.

    (1) is there a place to add a second hard drive

    (2) if so, would you have a second hard drive, or run a raid?

    (3) If you want a raid you would reflect the main disk failure?

    (4) what are the disadvantages of having a second disk except weight?

Lenovo said it would work in the notes to the mobile 500 GB internal drive here.

  • HP Envy 17 K2Z68AV: Adding a second hard drive for HP Envy 17 K2000 Series notebook PC

So, I have been looking around for more information on adding a second HDD/SDD in my model of laptop computer on the web, but can't find anything on my specific model. Many places say K-series laptops have only one hard drive Bay, and that you use a hard drive caddy optical Bay. Moreover, I found videos of very similar models being dismantled, which seem to have only room for 1 hard drive. However, I was told to support twitter HP want all 17 have 2 hard drive slots. Can I get a confirmation, just to be sure?

    Hey @MrMdr,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your Notebook HP ENVY - 17 t - k200 CTO, model #K2Z68AV and concerns with the second span. Looking to 256 GB SATA m2 (MLC) that could be used for storage only. It is a hard drive, but it fits differently than the main hard drive. Hereis a link to your manual page 2 which shows the specifications.

It shows you how to install this on page 68 of the manual.

Please let me know how it goes.

  • Adding a second hard drive internal

I use an old HP Media Center PC m700, product: m7041. I have tried adding a second internal hard drive, but unfortunately do not know how to start. Could someone help me please?

    I'll start by guessing that you have a m7041.uk, given that your model number is incomplete. After you have a HP m7041.uk, you have the following types of drive Bay and the quantities;

5.25 inches (CD/DVD), external x two (one available)
    a (busy) x internal 3.5-inch (hard drive),
    Personal Media Drive (available) x

Because you don't have that a single Bay 3.5 "for a hard drive and it is already occupied, you will need to use the Bay 5.25" opened with an adapter like THIS or THAT. Please see these tutorials for HP on 'Adding or replacing a hard drive' and 'Adding or replacing a CD or DVD disc' to learn where and how to install the second hard drive.

  • Qosmio G50 - 13R - add second HARD drive

    Hello

I want to upgrade my computer.
    Here are the numbers:

    Product name: Qosmio G50 - 13R
    Product version: PQG55E-05C04RFR
    Product series number: 89063721H

I have space for a second hard drive, but it is empty.
    No caddy, no connector.
But the Intel Rapid Storage detects an empty 4 internal port.

How to check what is the port?

I did some research and found a document on the substantive content of my computer. It says there is a connector on the motherboard for a second hard drive, here are a few references in the document:

CN1920 2nd SATA HDD (20 PIN) interface connector

Is that the motherboard of my computer (see reference above) has the CN1920 connector?
    How verified?

    Greetings.

There is a 2nd HDD bay because in the past, the Qosmio G50 is out with support for different hardware specifications and different hardware parts and obviously 2nd HARD drive Bay does not the HARD drive cable/connectors.

The Intel ICH9M South Bridge supports 4 integrated controllers serial ATA Host, so the chipset should be able to handle 4 devices SATA (2 x HDD, 1 x ODD, 1 x eSATA).

I searched on the internet a bit and discovered that the motherboard supports two controllers/connectors.
The first HARD drive must be connected to the CN1900 connector SATA (23pin) and the 2nd HARD drive must be connected to the CN1920 (20pin). The STRANGE is connected to CN1910 (13pin)

However, I think that it will not be very easy to update this unit with a 2nd HARD drive all must be dismantled and of course, you need compatible parts for these updates.

  • Tecra W50 - cannot start when installing the second hard drive (caddy).

    Hi all
    I have a Tecra W50 PT640A 04103NN1.
When a second hard drive is installed in the Bay of DVD player cell phone will try to boot from the drive bay, not the internal drive
This second drive has no operating system installed and so the fails to start.

If I hit F12 at startup and select HARD drive, while the machine starts correctly. That is starts on the main hard drive.
Change the order of boot in the BIOS makes all the difference; He will always try to boot from the second drive bay drive first.

All known A it works correctly?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Doppelfrog,
I had the same problem with my W50, got my HDD caddy a few days ago.
You have a bit of luck to fix this problem?
I believe that the Bios for this laptop is not developed to serve both drives (like the computer I had that one drive Bay) and it is not possible to prioritize the witch THAT HDD should start first...

    Kind regards
    Marcin

  • Adding a second hard drive to a 500-380nf Pavilion?

    I just bought a new 500-380nf Pavilion.

In the store I did understand the seller I was intending to add second hard drive to a 1 to SATA (which I already loaded with all my media files).

However, now I am home and have taken the side panel, it seems that the system a capacity for 2 more SATA connections on the motherboard, power cable from spare at least one and a lot of physical space.

BUT the chassis appears to have been designed with ONLY 2 bays - that are occupied by the existing hard drive and the optical drive.   Am I missing something?   There is a place to mount the second hard drive, isn't there?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

Some models of the HP 500 - xxx series are provsioned for a 2.5 device "(SDD ou HD)."  See the image below.

If you have removed the optical drive you can then use a 5.25 "to two hard drive adapter 2.5"since you mentioned a 2.5 hard drive".

  • Help to install a second hard drive in an a6407c

Hi, recently, I ran out of hard drive space and decided to add an additional hard drive. The drive I bought is a "Seagate Barracuda 1 TB 7200 RPM / MIN SATA 3 Gb/s 32 MB Cache 3.5 inch internal Desktop Hard Drive ST310005N1A1AS-RK-Retail Kit. My computer is a HP Pavilion a6407c PC with all the devices regular running in 32-bit configuration. I want to run the drive as a slave RAID drive. I installed in the cage and attached to the motherboard in the SATA 2 card. In the BIOS (which seems to be BIOS 6 or an earlier version), the SATA section in advanced settings is on "SATA 1 + 2". Under the material, I see the drive and it says that its working properly but I see only 3.37gigs memory available, so I know I did something wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help... soon a...

OK, so I moved some stuff my external and have now 42 GB of free space. And I understood how to shape and define a drive letter to the new drive, currently defined as my "F:" drive, but rather than use it as a second separate place to store data, I just want my computer to use as an extension/extension of the "C:".

Can someone tell me please how to do this?

This is something you can not do unless the current operating system installed on it, it will be just an additional storage.  He does his work as a secondary hard drive.  If this makes no sense to you, then I suggest reading about the differences between the physics of hard drives and partitions (primary and logical).  You can create a directory of programs on the second disc and use it when you install additional programs. That's about as close as you can get to the extension of the C: drive (it is in fact a primary partition)

Make sure that your primary hard drive has 10% of its maximum capacity as free space. Store anything else on the secondary drive.

    Hi ColMarriott,

Using a hard drive internal or external?

You can try the second formatting hard drive after taking a backup of the data on the disk.

If you use an external hard drive, you can try the following steps.

    a. connect the external drive.

    b. find the external hard drive in windows Explorer

    c. right-click on the drive and select format.

You can check the following items and check:

Install or remove a hard drive

Create and format a hard disk partition

Important: Make sure that you have backed up all the data before going forward with the format.

Since the first hard disk is full and crashing, you can try to move some data and check only files not programs drive different or another location.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Second hard drive problem

    Hello!

I want to add 1 TB (SATA) hard drive. my system is Dell optiplex gx 620 small form factor.

Please guide me my taken pc support two hard drives or not?

    Hello

I don't think that there is room for a second hard drive in the compact format for the GX 620.  If you take a look at the user guide for the GX 620and scroll down to about 28 page, it seems that there is no room for conflict between the existing HARD disk location and the motherboard.

Have you taken the cover on this system and looked at the components inside?  Don't you see a box to hold another tray of hard drive?   I don't have one of these systems to look at, but my suggestion would be to get an external hard drive for this system instead of trying to add an intern.  I don't think that there is room for it.
