Setting up a new router WRT54GL

I just got a new wireless WRT54GL router to replace my faulty WRT54GS router and I have a question. He has been

some time since I installed the old router and I remember something do not use the CD as it is said before connecting

the new router because it messes everything up. All my computers are running XP Pro SP3 with 2 of them being wired.

I remember something just plug the router typing 192.168.1.1 in my browser and then by setting everything up in this way. Am I correct that or I forgot something?

Oh, I'm also running Network Magic so I should also reinstall?

If you try to install the WRT54GL router then to let me know that first of all the name of the ISP and what type of connection it is? We hear his DSL or cable...

  • Unable to browse network with new router - HELP!

My old WRT54G died a few days ago.  I replaced it with a WRT54GL which was the closest match.  Since the installation of the new router I can sail is no longer on my network. I set up the new router with LELA according to the suggested guidelines.  Might that have changed something?  All machines can go on the internet and I can ping all the machines through the command line, but when I try to look at the Working Group in the place of my network window I get an error message that says:

"Workgroup not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.  The network path was not found. »

When I run net view command in the command line which also translates into an error.

When I hang on machines with a cable crossover, everything works fine, so I assume there are a few settings in the new router that prevents the list of course work.  Here is what I tried:

Disabled the firewall on local computers and the router - makes no difference

Ensured that all machines are in the same workgroup - they are

Because the browser service and peer network services are running - they are

Ensured that all the machines are on the same subnet - they are because they can ping each other

Now here's something really strange.  When I rename the Working Group on all machines, they can see each other.  Once I have switch back to the name "workgroup" they can't see each other any longer and I get the error message.

I run a small business and need to share files often enough.  I'd like to be able to get a NAS server, but I can't find any of it will work with ALL my machines.  Most of my machines running Vista at this stage, but a few are still XP Pro. I solved the problem and I wanted to post it in case someone else has the same problem.  One of the machines use a Linksys WGA600N Dual Band Gaming adapter, as is the wireless card. Technically this makes a bridge.  I needed to restart.  That solved my problem.

  • Wireless configuration of HP C4780 with new router and Mac (wireless network not found)

About 10 months ago, I bought a new router. I already had several problems connecting my HP C4780 to my old router, and after setting up the new router, I was totally unable to connect the printer wireless to my router.

I have reset the system to the printer on my Mac, I have reset the settings on my printer wireless, I downloaded the latest HP software, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software several times and I have had no success. When running through the Setup Wizard, I was able to select the printer and method (wireless network set up by USB) before plugging the USB key. After that, the Setup Wizard says "Device not connected" (DUH!) and the screen select network said simply "no discovery goes Wi - Fi network." I ran the print to the printer from the Network Configuration, and he identified 15 networks (mine included). So, it seems that the Wi - Fi receiver on the printer still works...

    Any suggestions?

P.S. This printer has been nothing trouble since I got it, and I wouldn't recommend it to ANYONE (I like actually...).

After attempting to run the installer on my boot camp Windows 7 Ultimate version, I fell at last on an obscure statement in the configuration of the PC software for the c4780. It says to connect the computer to the router using the router WPS button.

I have reset the configuration on the printer and turned off wireless the wireless, then I pushed the the router WPS button until the blue WiFi light on the c4780 lit. THIS SEEMED to BE THE KEY STEPS to CONNECT THE c4780 to MY ROUTER.

After that, the configuration and setting up the printer on my Mac using the system of preferences was a piece of cake. Functions of the printer and the scanner work with Mac drivers.

Problem solved... For now... This printer is so buggy, I have no doubt I'll have similar problems in the future.

    Hi Devar,

When you configure a new Wifi router immediately, you can connect to the radio

you have to go on the wireless router and you also need an ethernet cable to connect the router to your pc wirelessly

normally all routers come with an installation cd. But if it does not

Open your web browser and type the ip address of the default gateway

The IP address of the Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1

from there, you can set the security features and everything and after that you have set up passwords and everything please connect your modem to the wireless router so that you can access the internet

to manage your network wirelessly with the windows wireless client, please activate your Automatic Configuration WZC wireless

follow these steps to activate the automatic Wireless Configuration

Start menu - click on RUN

type in SERVICES. Scroll down the list until you see SMC Wireless Auto Configuration

Double-click and should be in service type: automatic

and also, click Start to start the service.

    Hope that helps

  • Can not set up a new Smart Wireless of Linksys account with my new router EA6500.

It started with an EA6350 router that I bought last month. It was working fine and my acount of smart wifi linksys worked very well and I've been using all services without any problem. I found a better offer on EA6500 and since it was less than 30 days, I went back my old router EA6350 and bought EA6500 and guess what each unique feature works very well except for the fact that this isn't to let me create new account Wifi Linksys niether afford card from my old account with the new router. Every time I reset the router and start a fresh install and get to the point where it ask me to create the account, it is for me very stupid mistake saying 'your router is not connected to the internet' which is not true because I can browse the internet explore even without any problem.

I took help thru time camps technical cat, also called the linksys support but no one is able to resolve the problem so that. Rather they make me to reset my router again once I get the same message and we are not good with the solution. If what someone has the slightest idea or idea or some thing to try please let me know. Thank you.

    Problem is solved.

I updated the firmware by accessing the router locally and manually downloaded the new cabinet where the Linksys.support.com file and then installed. After that, all the errors I was getting were gone.

Solution simple but not to think at any time.

I hope that it might help others who have done the same kind of problem.

    Thank you!

  • added a new router

    Hello

I use my Time Capsule for 4 or 5 years now and it has worked pretty well. Yesterday, I swapped a modem provided by my company and I also got a new router from them (Sagemcom Fast 3260cv). I put everything in place with the new modem and the router. I am using their channel 5G. Time Machine couldn't find the backup disk until I plugged the Capsule on the router. The flashing yellow light went green and I could make backups.

My question is, are there downsides to do things this way? As far as I know, I use the 5G for all my internet activity and the connection network wireless to my Time Capsule for my backups. This seems to be ideal. Now, I won't have to worry about backups on my internet bandwidth, although I suppose that the bandwidth of the MacBook Pro to the time Capsule will take a piece out of it, or will it? I guess the Time Capsule will not need to access the internet and instead just start over and set up to be only a backup unit, Time Capsule by plugging right on the router I can make it work.

I read a little about changing the Time Capsule in Bridge mode. Requiring from anywhere in my backups?

Is it a problem to have two networks in the House? The new router and the Capsule are right next to each other. (To be honest, I'm a little worried by the router sitting on top of the time Capsule that time Capsule remains warm enough. So, I even a plate isolating (a real plate) below electronics below are not affected by the heat.

In addition, the cable operator said that the open network providing their router will not affect my bandwidth and that anyone using it (I see 17 networks using iStumbler, most have no signal strength, but some are equal to mine. (Mine readings 77% for 5 G and it is about 8 feet away and online direct from my MacBook Pro...) In any case, I guess it's ok to have the open network. I asked l ' switch off, but they say I can't do that. I do not need it...

    Thus, a lot of questions.

    Thanks for any help.

    See you soon,.

    John L

I read a little about changing the Time Capsule in Bridge mode. Requiring from anywhere in my backups?

You have a lot of questions, scattered through... I'll answer has some time and come back.

You must never start backups due to the configuration of TC... Although you may lose the connection to the backup and the need to reconnect... which is sometimes delicate. TM will say that he will start a new backup and then discover the existing one.

Changes on behalf of transport CANADA will TM to lose the connection but should reconnect for backups.

A change of name of the computer will TM now start a new backup. (Although this is not 100%).

I'm a bit worried by the router sitting on top of the time Capsule that time Capsule remains warm enough.

    Never stack network routers...

Separate them by about 1 M.

    Train wireless or heat problems.

There is nothing wrong with the execution of multiple wireless networks... There is a big problem, stack one on top of the other wireless routers.

The best idea is to run ethernet to a room where you need more wireless and locate the TC it.

In addition, the cable operator said that the open network providing their router will not affect my bandwidth

It is bulldust ISP... I will come back more... Anon.

  • New router lost Time MAchine

Now later in my problems without end with networking...

This morning I installed a new router (former a packed) which is identical to the former - a BT Home Hub 5.

I had a list established this:

... that is the time Machine / aka basic Station (why there so many names!) has been connected to my network via Wi - Fi.

Now I have the new road, everything is set back to how it was before aside, I lost the TC. The reason is that the new router, even if I have named themselves, they have different WiFi key password (of course).

    I see this now:

I can see in the upper left corner, he found a point WiFi (TC), but whenever I'm going to add it, it seems to want to replace one of my other components. All I want to do is get back to where I was, with her concected 'Abbey Home Office' and not 'Cook' etc. I join my back ups of the last year to be always accessible! This is the point of a Machine of time after all...

When I installed it initially, I'm sure that I had to set up wired - but can I use the WAN or LAN port on the TC and can I connect on the Mac or the router.

    So confused...

It really should connect the TC in one of the other airports... the main router or what you called Hub... it makes no difference as long as the main router is also a gigabit.

Setup the TC in bridge mode and create a... wireless network you can use the same name for the wireless as the rest of your network... but it should be noted that this sometimes causes issues if you have the computer plugged into another airport or the main router... for now a problem... Time Capsule recovery online... (It's a Capsule time btw...) Time Machine is the software on the computer that performs the backup... the two are not related in any way, but apple has mightily confused the issue. )

If the automatic configuration does not do it manually.

How does a "change the Protocol from the router to WPA Wireless?  That sounds like it would be worth trying...

    HA

There are many different routers wireless worldwide, each using different menus and methods to change the encryption.  You must search for the 'Wireless' setting in the router, can find the control area "encryption".  This is where you choose WEP/WPA/WPA2 and the different "flavors" of each.

Given that the TX is a device only / b, you must be sure that your router is configured to be retro-compatible speeds/b.  If nec ' / g-only ' or ' / g and/n ' it will not communicate to the TX.

I'll send a link to the ESU you via the private Message system that we have here on the Forum.  It's a shame that HP didn't post the return to download file...

  • New router ' Fritz! Box "7490, reconfiguration of network"

I just upgraded my router, Fritz! Box 7490, & I need to re-set my network help please.

Before the upgrade, I had a very old router Aolynk. This was connected to my TC, the last giving us WiFi for our House, but also my parents House, via an Ethernet cable connecting the TC at the airport Exremem BS. Beside that, I use the TC to occasionally save the iMac & the RMBR & the old router sent our CCTV to phones via an Ethernet cable. The new router is now the primary device & our hub WiFi (Wireless AC active). I read an article that I thought would help, but I had no success.

I need assistance with the above, and some tips on how to host 6 other our audio/video system Ethernet cables (two rooms, each show 3 cables, one for the Smart TV, APR or other devices requiring an update and media coils).

    I want it is-

    1. to put WiFi on my parents. After reading the article, I followed the instructions, linking the TC with my iMac, turn off the "WiFi" on the TC & activation of Bridge mode. I got the TC & tried to thread failed. Run the cable to the Lan port of the router to the WLAN or a LAN on the TC port? I want to use the TC in this way, so I can release the LAN ports of the router, which I have 3 (Gigabit). The 4th is used for the Internet. I then connect an Ethernet cable between a LAN on the TC to the BS port extreme airport as before. I have to configure EI?

    2. I want the Ethernet of CCTV cable through the TC rather than use one of the ports on the router, which is the situation at present. (Of course I don't want another outgoing cable TC goes to the router as it defeats the purpose to release the ports on the router.) I wanted to lift as soon as possible the line & it was the fastest way. We had trouble getting food for the mobile, but once the camera system has been reset to HDCP problem has been fixed.

3 tips on how to manage the flow of both BC I was hoping to give each player to medis/streamer a port on the router, but I'm still short of some?

Once configured, I was hoping to use Time Machine from time to time, which means I needed to take the TC on the network and replace it afterwards or is there another way?

A lot of questions, sorry. Networking is a pretty big unknown.

    Thanks a mil,

    CAPO Dino

Run the cable to the Lan port of the router to the WLAN or a LAN on the TC port?

Yes, at least to make the configuration correctly.

    I have to configure EI?

Possible... Although it should have always in bridge.

Always start a new network with a complete factory Setup configuration.

Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the drive hard in doing so.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

Connect as you said... Ahmed to TC WAN LAN.

Make the configuration of the TC. It is necessary to bridge... (Tab network, router mode... OFF (bridge mode).

The Internet tab should also be on DHCP.

You should see that it gets an IP address from the Fritz... and passes DHCP requested from customers (without wireless or ethernet) through to the Fritz so.

    2. I want that the cable Ethernet of CCTV through the TC rather than use one of the ports on the router.

In bridged TC should not be a problem.

3 tips on how to manage the flow of both BC I was hoping to give each player to medis/streamer a port on the router, but I'm still short of some?

    Transport CANADA ports should work.

However if you are having problems... now go out and buy a 8 ports gigabit switch... It is extremely cheap point now and better than being frustrated by the lack of ports. I run a complex system... but everything is connected via a 16 port gigabit switch. So I never need to mess with the majority of the cables... it does not move even if Exchange you routers and AP autour.

Once configured, I was hoping to use Time Machine from time to time, which means I needed to take the TC on the network and replace it afterwards or is there another way?

Which should be as good... but I also warn you that Mac OS is lost very quickly now. It must connect by ethernet or wireless directly to TB without going through the Fritz. For some strange reason, Apple have evolved in network features that are not compatible... for example, Hello is very important and the Frtiz could be contravention.

    http://www.IP-phone-Forum.de/showthread.php?t=281365

Just do a google for Fritzbox and Hello... you will find many articles... There are questions.

Yes for apple not in line with the standard network world.

As you can see other problems may arise as quickly...

One of my solutions is to use the static IP address instead of the Bridge mode.

Here's a post I did with a bunch of screenshots to explain it.

Try it and see if it helps... assuming that you would have trouble...

I can give specific information if you give me some screenshots of the configuration of the Frtiz... LAN and DHCP IP range.

    Hi rewn,

    Thank you for your answer!

If the router is WPS enabled, then following the instructions in the video that I have provided should allow you to connect. Otherwise, if it is not connected, you can use always an Ethernet cable from the printer to the router, or a USB cable from the printer to the computer.

  • Time Capsule missing after installing new router

I recently installed a new wifi router for my home network. Previously, I used only my time capsule to back up data and intend to continue to use it for backups. However, with my new router, I can't find how to access the time capsule to keep backups. I have time capsule directly connected to the router via ethernet and it will still not appear in AirPort Utility or enable Time Machine to find.

    Any suggestions?

    Everything has changed.

With a new router, you have a 'new' network... and the time Capsule is to remember the parameters which it was equipped to work in your 'old' network The time Capsule is lost and he can't find his way.

Reset to return to the default settings Time Capsule

    Connect it to the router

Set up the time again to work with the "new" network Capsule

  • need help connecting HP envy 4520 with new router

I have a new router. Cannot find where to change the settings of the printer. Cannot print.

Reset the printer to the default network.  Then use the front panel wireless configuration wizard if your printer has it.

Replacement/change your wireless router, try here.

    http://www.HP.com/global/au/en/wireless/reconfiguring-system-Help3.html

Make sure that your router is set to a fixed channel wireless as the 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto '.  Try channel 1 first and then the other one at a time.  Make sure that the printer and the router are spaced at least 5 feet.

Brand and model of modem and router?

However, if you have a gateway device (modem + router), all gateway devices are terrible for connectivity and wireless performance.   If this does not work, suggest you put this bridge in full bridge mode device and install your own router of high quality that YOU have full control over.

  • My HP shows it is connected to the new router, but does not connect to the internet. How should I do?

I have a HP G60 Notebook PC with Windows Vista Home Premium, it is about 4 years old. I recently got a new Cisco Linksys E1500 wireless router, which is connected to my home computer. My laptop shows that it is connected to the home network, but it does not connect to the internet. Other laptops in the House are able to connect to the network and to the internet. Mine seems to be the only one not working do not. Why it is not working? What should I do about it?

I ran the network diagnostics. It is said "a problem with you network router or modem broadband could prevent an internet connection." I have disconnected these two and tried again. It did not work! I have also connected my laptop directly on the modem and it does not always connect to the internet. I tried to reset the network card. My IP settings are set to automatic.

My internet connection was not a problem before last week (when I got a new router). What is the problem with my computer? Help, please!

    Hello:

If you have an Atheros wireless adapter in your PC and you have not updated the driver, I recommend that you install it.

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3688868&swItem=ob-99392-1&mode=3

Wireless adapters Atheros with former pilots, dislikes the new Linksys routers.

If you have an Atheros wireless card, and your wireless driver is more than 2 years, I am very confident that this will solve your connection problem.
