Severe a failure: all of a sudden all desktop-ICONS changed to "pdf-Icons", reports: "Adobe reader can´t open file xyz.exe '. I can't open any exe file!

27.08.2015, 15:03

Hi specialists and friends, please help me: after recommended today ' session-Adobe UPDATE JAVA brought 'JAVA 8 update successful 60': but: a serious fault occurs:

all desktop icons after update and reboot are changed in pdf-Icons, programs behind the icons aren't more to start, clicking an icon is the report: 'Adobe reader cannot open the file xyz.exe '.

Even in windows - start "Windows/start / all programs": all programs with ".exe" - mainfile changed their icon of adobes-player-icon and should not start, same report.

My system is: Win 7 Pro SP1, my system has been running perfect until Adobe´s recommendation to update Java.  The procedure of update-Java-auto: apparently the same as several before.

What went wrong? What should do now? How and where I fix the connection appearently wrong of Adobe Reader with computers exe files?

My todays burning problem is, I have to use this computer today important obligations related to dates, especially my statement of tax, otherwise I have to pay the drastic punishment.

What I ve learned today still and forever: never touch a running system! More than ever, with a recommendation to update to Adobe! I m so diappointed at Adobe!

Please specialists and friends, maybe you can help me with a solution!  Thank´s in advance, Peter

    Hello

try a restore of the system before this happened

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.

  • All desktop icons overlaid with small 'none' icon

All my desktop icons are covered, what I call the icon "no icon". (small box with three small dots of color in a larger white box, top right corner folded down).  This 'no icon' icon is on 1/3-1/4 the size of the original icon, so it does not use, but this icon that just overlap correct is looking a mess.

If I open the properties, only the icon "no icon" is in the properties box.    If I point Windows Explorer program.  We show the correct icon (no recovery).  If I drag this program on the desktop, create a shortcut, drag the correct icon - until - I release it, then the icon "no icon" is that just overlap the correct icon than others on my desktop.

I was told to delete the IconCache.db in C:\Users\\AppData\Local.   as it is rebuilt when you start...  This suggestion appears in several places - that, in my case, that does not work.   Reboot and the superimposed icons are all there yet.

I've seen other complaints of other small icons coming to overlap, but so far, none of the people with suggestions work for my problem.

I had the same thing happen to me... and after about 3 hours of internet research.

the solution that worked for me...

Use the command regedit as an administrator

    GoTo this save location.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons

There should be only (default) REG_SZ (value not set)

unless you use another software that should be the only thing here... other things could be Malware but investigate to make sure.

    I hope this helps...

If system restore is turned on and you can go back enough, restore the computer to an earlier date using Safe Mode.

Restart the computer and start typing the key F8, select Safe mode with command option. If you are prompted to select an operating system, use the arrow keys to select the right pair and press ENTER. Log in as administrator or with an account that has administrator credentials. At the command prompt, type % systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. Follow the prompts to restore your computer to an earlier date.

    Hi Charles,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: You can run the Microsoft Fixit from the link below and check if the problem still persists.

Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Method 2: You can run the Microsoft Fixit for the issuance of the printer and check if the problem persists.

  • All my desktop icons disappeared and I can not add new ones.

I recently uninstalled fences and after that I uninstalled it all my desktop icons disappear. When I try and add icons on the desktop, they do not apear. When I go to computer > desktop everything is there. They are simply not apearing on the real office.

Right-click on the desktop and choose 'View', then 'Show Desktop icons.

  • Why, suddenly, my desktop icons are difficult to align because they can be moved very small distances?

For years, my desktop icons have acted as if they have so many 'slots' to enter in on the office. But this has never been a problem. They were easier to align because they were right next to each other, or a 'slot' above/below/apart.

Now, for some reason, I can travel distances of small icons on the desktop, as if they were scalar elements which can be minimally pushed open. Suddenly there are not more "slots", and sort of paradoxically icons are more difficult to assemble and align because I have to keep their repositioning so that they are straight. Before, they were either straight, or a whole notch offline.

It is NOT correct. Right-click and select Show , and then turn on Align

  • Several copies of the Adobe Reader software are open by Windows Explorer without any request

I have a PC using Windows XPproSP3 as its operating system.  Adobe Reader v10.1.3 is installed on my machine. When to use Windows Explorer to view a directory containing several *. PDF files and I ask then my mouse over a file and a simple left click to select this file, Windows Task Manager shows me that the system immediately starts opening copies of AcroRd32.exe (in pairs) and continues to do so until the PC is out of memory.  The PDF in question is not actually opened.

  • All of a sudden my desktop icons take forever (90seconds) to load. That is what it is?

My desktop icons would charge almost as soon as the page Office appeared.  Something to happen, and now it takes approximately 90seconds. I ran Norton, Microsoft Essentials, reg more clear and reg fix and updated the icon cache, but nothing has changed.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Hi PreachermanRT,

Now, you will need to know which service is causing the issue of icons on the desktop on the computer.

See the Microsoft article below and try the steps mentioned in the title of system services.

Perform a clean boot to determine if background programs interfere with your game or program

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/331796

Note: Above article is also applicable to the Windows XP operating systems.

  • All my desktop icons open under 1 program. How to return to the original way can be opened as part of their own program?

Long story short, all my desktop icons and pretty much everything else opens under the same program.

I deleted the program that went all other programs and now all the desktop icons are left white and they don't know where to go.

I saw several responses to this before, but none of them were really clear. How can I get my programs to open to their original programs?

Could someone please provide a detailed response, I'm pretty new to this. Thank you.

    Hello

It's like as if all your slots target for your shortcut got a little messed up. Here is a list of the simple troubleshooting steps that I suggest.

    • When this problem started to happen
    • Have you made a change to your system, such as installing the software before that happens?
    • Have you tried to delete the shortcut icons and create new ones on the oldest?
    • Have you tried to change the target location manually? -To do so, right click on any shortcut icon of the present Office on your computer, locate your target and see if it takes you directly to your location of program if not, go to your local disk, program files and scroll to the program that you want as a shortcut on your desktop. Then go on the address tab and click once. Copy and paste the address into the location your shortcut properties target.

    Hope this helps,

    Kind regards

    Andrew
