Share the creation of the disk using VMWare

Grid version: 11.2
Guest operating system: Solaris 10
SE host: Windows 7
Virtualization software: VM Ware 8 workstation

I want to install 11.2 IM on my laptop.

I was under the impression that shared LUN for the installation of the grid can be created using Openfiler. But according to the document below, it is possible

http://www.dannorris.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/2008_341_norris_ppr.PDF

But Dan Norris said "+ VMWare Workstation has a limitation in the sharing of disk, it's one of the reasons we use VMWare Server (which has no such restriction). + »

I don't know what version of VMWare Workstation speaks it. Is it possible to create shared LUNS using VM Ware workstation 8 (which I have)?

You can create shared discs by editing the file manually .vmx (never tried on my good computer)

or you can also use Virtualbox, which is free and supports the shared disks

  • Change the disks used in the disks of OCR/vote DiskGroup

    Hello

    RDBMS...: 11.2.0.4

    ... OS: AIX 7.1

In our environment, we have a diskgroup used to store records OCR and voting. The diskgroup contains 3 discs 15 GB each and is configured with normal redundancy and is called "OCR".

My question is: We must change these 3 discs with 3 new disks to a different memory. I would like to know if it is possible to add these new 3 drives in the diskgroup OCR, wait for rebalancing and after this operation, remove the old records? This approach is viable? Or we need to create a new diskgroup, place the OCR and the discs with right to vote in this new diskgroup and remove the old diskgroup?

    Thanks in advance.

You can add and remove asmdisk by using the procedure in the DSO without problem, make sure just as there are enough failgroup to contain the votedisk.

    OCR and ASMSPFILE connection:

The OCR and the ASMSPFILE are stored similar to how Oracle database files are stored. Scopes are spread across all disks in the diskgroup and redundancy (which is the measurement scale) is based on the redundancy of the disk group. When you add and remove some asmdisk these extensions are moved automatically during the rebalancing process.

No relocation is necessary for OCR to ASM SPFILE.

    VOTEDISK topic:

The VOTEDISK is not stored as OCR, each VOTEDISK (one per ASMDISK) are placed directly on the ASMDISK (near LUN header) then is necessary relocation Votedisk.

Suppose you have 3 asmdisk each own FAILGROUP disc (A, B and C) and you add more ASMDISK 3.

So if you use a normal redundancy, you need to configure at least 3 new failgroup (a failgroup for each new ASMDISK).

When you issue "Alter diskgroup xx drop... drive A, B and C" the clusterware start automatic resettlement treat mobile votedisk to disks on failgroup D, E and F.

You will see the process on the alert_log of ASM and cssd.log.

After finishing process of rebalancing, check if they fall on disk have a status of 'TRAIN' and there is no votedisk thereon ($ crsctl query css votedisk).

  • Increase the size of the disk in VMWare Workstation - VM Workstation 6.5.1

The host is a QuadCore computer with 32-bit XP Prof. SP2

The guest is a Windows 2008 x 64 Enterprise Edition.

I use VM preinstalled 6.5.1 build - 126130.  I originally created a virtual hard drive of 30 GB to start with and after loading all my software finished consuming 29 GB.  I deleted all snapshots and shrunk the VHD.  Defragemented - I could not recover any space by following the steps above.

The next step, I have increased the size of 40 GB using the following command:

    VMware-vdiskmanager - x 40 GB "F:\VM\Windows2008_SQL2005_MOSS2007_64bit.vmdk".

Now, I noticed an increase as part of the Virtual Machine to 40 GB, but the virtual machine itself shows that the space used is 29 GB and I have 1 GB left.  When I try to install more software on virtual, I get an error message that there is not enough space to move forward.

Is there something that I'm missing or do I need a fix / patch that I'm missing?

    Thanks for your time.

You must resize the file inside the VM system.

    DiskPart should do the trick.

  • Provision of servers across the Web using VMware View 4.0

    Hello

I have an obligation to provide servers via http. I have the license for Vmware View, but have no idea where to start? I installed view a server in the DMZ, but we must talk back to the field so I put discarded it.

My ultimate goal is to open a web browser and type the address of a server, and log in to access to the server via the web browser.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Rgds,

    Paul.

View supports the addition of server farms existing Terminal Server to it's broker for connections giving the user a single place to connect to their strong server and virtual desktop terminal server.   All you have to do is create a new pool and add your terminal servers to the pool.  Notice only addresses the brokerage operations of connections to Terminal servers.

  • How to increase the size of the disk partition VMware Studio.

    Hello

I installed the VMWare Studio unit on ESX 4.0 host system. I've been running more disk space for builds, so I wanted to provide more space for the SCSI in ESX, Edit-settings of the Virtual Appliance. I increased the size to 256 GB SCSI disk.

I then went to the guest VMWare Studio system, and the device/dev/sda5 displays always only 30 GB, and 12 GB is exhausted. How can I make the Guest OS from VMWare Studio unit see the increase in size?

I tried to use "parted", but this fails because/dev/sda5 is mounted. "' I can't umount/dev/sda5 as/dev/sda5" is ongoing. " I am aware of the 1004047 of the Knowledge Base article, but it is of no use, because is not specifically for VMWare Studio unit.

    Thank you.

If you have a lot of disk space on the ESX Server, yes creating and adding a new virtual disk (vmdk) to the VM Studio is the way to go. Mount the new drive for the Studio colleagues OS (Ubuntu), and the key is/opt/vmware/www/build simple installation on the new disk to create the new space drive for Studio use. Don't forget to back up your existing data in this directory first. See http://communities.vmware.com/thread/244715?tstart=0 for the similar explanation. Let us know how it goes.

  • Restrict the movement of files to physical machine to the Virtual Office (vmware view)

    Hi all

I have a question, I am using virtual desktop with vmware view. I'm on a physical machine using this machine that I log on to the virtual machine using office remotely. (vmware view). My question is that I don't want the users of the physical machine to copy and paste the files of the virtual machine and vice versa.

When I open virtual desktop, go to my computer, I see drive c (virtual machine disk) and then share the disks of the physical machine. When I click on them, they open and then I am able to copy all files in this shared folder on the virtual desktop. I want to restrict any idea how could I go about this. Help, please.

    Arun N

    Using RDP?

In this case, you can use GPO (virtual desktop) to disable drive sharing.

  • With the help of VMware ESX in a business continuity Plan

I'm looking to set up a Plan for continuity of the business using Vmware ESX. I would like to install an outside site that will duplicate a few key servers. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this with ESX? Is it as simple as pushing Server snapshots to the offsite location? Any ideas...

    Thank you

    Scott

    Hello

    Welcome to the forums.

I'm looking to set up a Plan for continuity of the business using Vmware ESX. I would like to install an outside site that will duplicate a few key servers. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this with ESX? Is it as simple as pushing Server snapshots to the offsite location? Any ideas...

One thing to know is that a snapshot in terms of "VMware" is not a full copy of the disc, it is a file that contains the changes to the drive block since the snapshot was created. Snapshots of assistance in making backups of virtual machines running, but allowing the basic disk to copy while the data is written to the snapshot. Then, you're the snapshot.

So how do DR/BC is having a good backup strategy using one of the available backup/replication tools.

    There are:

    Veeam Backup w/replication

Vizioncore vRanger backup and vReplicator for replication connection

EsXpress doctorate for backup (restorations of use for replication)

There is also some SRM if your San is supported, etc.

So there are a lot of options the question is how 'real time' you need the data. You could also use the replication SAN, Double Take, etc.

  • Corrupted hard drive, I tried to delete everything on the drive using unlocker instead of setting shape and it corrupted the drive

Corrupted hard disk I tried to remove the disk, use unlocker to see how long it would take to remove a complete 500 GB instead of formatting. He paused to remove all and windows is now on a different drive, but it always detects the other as active, I get constant popups saying some files are missing, and it is possible that the disc is damaged or a netwoprk cable has been disconnected, but it's because I deleted the files say are missing. I can not format because I have errors during the attempt, may not make a disk check but in disk manager it says the drive is healthy. I tried to install windows on t6he disk, but the format gets 99% and stops. I know that the drive is not broken, because it worked fine until I did! The windows folder is still on disk with some deleted files and the folder of the system volume and the restore folder are always there, they cannot be deleted now because when I try I get errors/popups saying that the drive is in use & that some files are missing, some of them begin with the sign $.

  • ESXi allows to directly access the disk?

    Two quick questions...

    (1) ESXi allows to directly access the disk?

.. .and associated with what precedes :)

    (2) Let's say I want to use Windows Home Server as a guest within ESXi operating system.  It formats the disks using standard NTFS that can be read by any Windows machine.  (eg. you can remove the hard drive of the server and paste it into any other computer and you can read it).  How would this work in ESXi?  ESXi would force first all of the disk formatted to VMFS and then have NTFS below?  (so you could not "access the drive except in other machines on ESXi)

    Thanks for any help!

However, if I create a virtual disk (using VMFS) that even if the virtual disk is formatted NTFS by the client operating system that he still cannot be read in another computer because it is in a 'container' of VMFS.

Yes, I would say that's pretty accurate, there are a few exceptions of course... but overall, Yes.

  • Problem writing external file on the disk mounted outdoors in Windows

    People,

I have a strange problem with a simple OWB mapping where I am dumping the contents of a table to an external file.
The versions are OWB v 11.2.0.2 64 - bit on Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.2 2007 Windows 64 - bit Enterprise Server.

When the external files module is connected to a place that point to a local drive and directory on the OWB server, everything works fine - files are created and written.
When the external files module is connected to a location that points to a disk mounted on another Enterprise 2007 64-bit Windows Server, I get + "path not valid for the target file, check if the connector is deployed correctly. +

The "File System Path location" in OWB is set to "N" (no slash anyway). ' ' Test connection ' reports OK.

I gave the os user Oracle and "Everyone" (for good measure) all rights on the mounted disk, and I see that the package generated code uses the correct directory, and the directory path is correct on the server. The drive mounted (N :) should appear as a local disk to Oracle I see. I am able to create and delete files on the disk using a command line on the OWB/DB server.

I'm scratching my head on this one...

    Hello Haakon,
try to specify the directory in OWB with UNC path (instead with a letter, as \\other-server\shared-resource of the drive).
MS Windows sessions for executed OWB mapping and where you map resource network to the drive letter is different - maybe it's a reson why you can't access the mapping file.

You close your session to the Oracle database server after network sharing the drive letter mapping?

    Kind regards
    Oleg
