Shockwave Flash Object absent as add-on

Hello

I use Windows XP SP3 and IE 8 (32-bit) as the browser. I can't view the Adobe video files in the browser. All I see is a blank box with a red x in the top left. I installed the latest version of Flash Player from the Adobe site. Although the installation was successful, the problem remains. The question isn't here if I use Mozilla Firefox browser, where all the files Adobe appear correctly. I checked in Control Panel-> add/remove program list, "Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX" and "Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin" are also well illustrated. However, in the list of add-ins from the browser (Tools-> manage add-ons-> all the Add-ons), the ShockWave Flash Object is not listed. No object there in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files directory, I have read through tools-> Internet Options-> settings-> view objects. In case it helps, my C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash directory contains files such as Flash10l.ocx, flashplayer.xpt, FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll, FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.exe, FlashUtil10l_Plugin.exe, genuinst.exe, NPSWF32.dll.

I have read the trail http://forums.adobe.com/thread/773384?tstart=0 ("unable to install latest Flash Player") and followed all the instructions that there (login as administrator, uninstall, reboot, reinstall the plugin ActiveX to IE and Firefox etc.). I also disabled my anti-virus (I use QuickHeal's ' Internet Security') during the procedure. However, problem remained exactly the same.

Can someone please help me solve this problem? I saw a post from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/775762?tstart=0 ("ActiveX control will not register"), where the suggested solution is to use the MS SubInACL utility to change the registry settings. I do not know if that will solve my problem as well, but since my PC contains many other important software, I'm a little evasive, aid that, before, I have explored all other options.

Thanks in advance,

Mathieu

Hi, you have found a great piece of info. I know Kill bits, given that Microsoft occasionally publishes their updates of Windows. However, it is STILL at the special request of Companys. I remember last year, I think that there are 3 that I remember and security reasons. I think that HP has been one, don't remember the other 2 however.

I have to say that Adobe would have never asked this! LOL I can't speculate even how it happened on your system. The fact that it has altered the registry is very disturbing. Needless to say that I've never heard of this for Flash Player.

Now I know adblocks, etc, but my understanding, this happens in the browser, not the registry. I'm not sure on that though.

Glad you were able to see that and fix your registry database.

I also appreciate posting you this info here. It will be something for other users to check when having the same problem you had. In fact I have worked with several other threads on that very thing, where users have all the right files installed Flash and Shockwave Flash Object too and still not able to view Flash content.

Now the SubInACL could perhaps fix this, but I even had a couple of the year last that even users who does not solve the problem.

So thank you once again for the great info!

I also wanted to add that this would prevent the Installation of the Shockwave Flash object. Then for those who were able, maybe this registry change could occur AFTER that and prevent the display of Flash content. Whatever it is, not a good thing!

Hi, if you have XP/SP3 and using IE8 and FF. I would not be updated for FF 3.6.15 yet since this can complicated additional questions.

However, the upgrade from IE6 to IE8 and install SP3 are the two major updates. One of those who could have caused the glitch in Flash Player, because it works in browsers. So it makes sense that you should have to install FP even in IE8.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Open Flash and after return the files listed here. NPSWF files must be opened with a right-click, and then click Properties to get the version numbers.

Using IE, go to tools, manage Addons and under "Show"(very light text) is Shockwave Flash Object installed, active and this is the version 10.2.152.32? "»

FF, navigate to the plugins and is the active Shockwave Flash plugin?

The Shockwave Flash object and the Shockwave Flash plugin are the controls for Flash Player.

Let us make sure that we have Flash Player and the required browser addons installed correctly before addressing other issues.

    Thank you

  • Flash object has no publisher or Version IE11 point 8.1 Windows

Hello, I tried to get flash player to work and we have tried several avenues in point 8.1 of Windows. I have tried enabling Shockwave Flash, tried to disable ActiveX filtering, resave the file flash.ocx, IE11 and disable/re-enabling IE11 reset. Nothing has provided no help with this, but what seems to be the problem, it's that the shockwave flash object has literally no information in the Appendix. No editor, no version number.

Basically, it's all the conclusive information that I have gathered. I'll try to find a way to update the flash object, but downloaded flash player for windows 8 says I have pre-installed it, and I don't know if deleting the flash.ocx file is a good idea. If anyone has had these problems or feels well informed about what might happen on this must be fixed, please let me know. Thanks for any help.

    Hi Preston,

First of all, you don't want to remove flash.ocx. Given that Microsoft integrates Flash Player in Internet Explorer, flash.ocx is locked and you cannot delete it, unless you mess with permissions and doing so will make you unable to resinstall IE to get Flash Player, short of re-installing Windows (or reset to the factory settings, depending on the system you have).

If you have performed all troubleshooting steps and Flash content is still not properly display in IE, it could be that Microsoft does not identify the browser IE in the user agent string, which many Web sites use to determine which browser is in the use and display of the content based on the browser. Microsoft is constantly changing the user agent string for IE and websites need to adjust how they identify the browser based on other characteristics, not the user agent string. A test using IE, go to what is my User Agent? and post the results here.

  • Ditch beside the Flash object

I have trouble to get rid of a gap that appeared when I insert a swf file on my page in CS3.
I have a table (I inherited the site!) and to replace one of the images in there with a swf file. I tried to use a div to contract my table line, which contains 3 images. This is the picture I want to replace. However, this exchange for a swf file adds space to the left of the file & forces image 3 below.

I tried to create a rule for the object 0px margins & padding, the width of the correct box & height; I even tried the line 0px height!

I'm on a development site so can not post a link to the page I'm afraid, but here is a part of the code in the page:

Shockwave Flash caused my browser 40.0.3 to launch the videos, I didn't play, I added an add-on to block the Flash Shockwave; However, this has become very cumbersome to turn on and off when I go to sites requiring Flash as a greeting card site. • Why have I not two versions of Shockwave flash?

In the Add-ons Manager, I have two Shockwave Flash plugins, one is the latest version and the other is an outdated version. If I try to update the plugin it brings me to a page telling me that he was blocked. What should I do and I'd be worried about the other plugin open my computer up vulnerabilities?

Your system details list shows several Flash plugins.

    1. Shockwave Flash 11.8 r800
    2. Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0

You can find the installation path of the plugins on the topic: plugins page.

You can view the installation folder of Flash player for multiple Flash player plugins and delete older versions of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re) install the latest Flash Player.

    • (32-bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
    • (Windows 64 bit) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\

If there isn't that one Flash version presents then try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox profile folder and perhaps as well to reset addons.sqlite the plugin registry data bases.

  • Firefox won't open the shockwave flash files because there are 2 types?

Firefox does not open some swf files when I say that this is the cause. However, http://edmullen.net/test/poopboy.swf works fine.

I looked in my Options-> Applications menu and found this http://i.imgur.com/kPVOHdE.png

So it has got 2 different types of SWFs to meet him. I can't tell the top affliate background is the same way.

I tried to uninstall the plugin. This removed the bottom and meant that the poopboy.swf I also linked didn't work in the same way, however, put it back, I was just back to the drawing board.

I want to add that these particular .swf files that I'm running worked yesterday so file corruption is not the problem, especially since I went and all the redownloaded.

These two SWF entries are on different MIME types that first one appears to be damaged or at least unusual. and probably the second (application/x-shockwave-flash) should be there.

You can rename (or delete) the file mimeTypes.rdf in the profile folder of Firefox to reset all the actions file.

  • My Shockwave Flash for Firefox (and IE) plugin causes computer/browser crash & restart, but only for the worms. 10.2 +. 10.1 & below, no problem. Any difficulty?

I had this persistent problem of Shockwave Flash crash my system and causing an automatic my PC restart, as soon as I try to play flash videos (any browser, in fact). However, as long as I keep my flash to version 10.1 and not update it, it works fine. The problem is how long can I keep it like that until some future tweak of the same general Web site if flash sites that prevent work?

I want to know if there is a fix so that I can install future versions of the Shockwave Flash plugin and actually make it work so I don't have to use such an archaic version of the Flash more (gag, even if I say this, I again Flash, it's so awkward in any version, I wish websites would turn to some other standard videos already).

If anyone has an answer, please let me know. (My computer works on Windows XP with Firefox 12, either said by the way. Oh and I would love it if there was a way to get Firefox to work on the iPad, Safari is such a crude, childish browser, it has almost no Add-ons useful or features custom at all.)

I just noticed that, in the subject line of your message, you specify the ActiveX of Flash for IE version causes the same problem. I wonder if there could be a problem with your graphics card driver software. Have you checked the firmware updates?

  • Shockwave Flash crash

How can I prevent the Shockwave Flash crash? It happens a couple times a day for now.

    Hi Renee,.

I would like to know the name of the web browser with which you encounter Shockwave Flash crashes. I would cover solutions for Internet Explorer and Google Chrome web browsers widely used.
If you are a user of Internet Explorer, then go to the Tools menu, select the option "Manage Add-ons." Disable Shockwave Flash Player and restart it. Now click Start | Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program. Select this program from the list that appears, click on the "Uninstall" button Download a new stand-alone version of the site Web from Adobe here: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ . Click on "accept and install" and go through the instructions on the screen. This solution is given assuming that your Shockwave Flash Player files are corrupt.
If you're a Google Chrome user, then your efforts are very different. Google Chrome comes with a built-in version of Shockwave Flash that if misconfigured with all standalone versions installed on your system can lead to accidents. In this case, you must disable the integrated version and let your stand-alone versions work only. Go to Chrome, type "subject: plugins" (without the quotes) to the address / address bar, then press ENTER on your keyboard. Don't you see the Flash plug-in? If so, click the "+ detail" to expand and disable the integrated version that File Path refers to... Directory of \Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application. Let the version independent another permitted. Once you have finished, remember to update your version of Shockwave Flash Player standalone from the official Adobe site.
