  • MS Outlook icon / shortcut icon problems

I'm trying to figure out what I did to corrupt my MS Outlook icon.

I know that I myself asked the problem dragging MS Outlook since the MS office folder in the start/programs menu on my desktop to create a shortcut. I tried dragging the icon in the start/programs menu folder, but that did nothing.
Currently, the Outlook icon is the icon of the generic program. In addition, Outlook is no longer present in the start menu in the program folder. The program itself works very well and its icon is currently on the desktop (I found this by doing a search windows and creating a shortcut from there. This icon in the windows search is also messed up).
I don't know how to get back on this problem. Fitness is not an option, nor is the system restore (because there is no restore points).
    Thank you!

    Hello

I suggest you that you rebuild icon cache.

    a. Click Start, click Control Panel, and write in the search options for files box.

    b. now, click on Folder Options to open and select folders and hidden files (dot).
    c. open a Windows Explorer window.
    d. go to C:\Users\(User Name) \AppData\Local
    e. right click on IconCache.db and click on delete.
    f. click Yes to confirm the deletion.

NOTE: This removes the file to the trash. It is safe to empty the trash when you are done.

    g. close the window.
    h. emptying the trash.
    i. restart the computer.
    j. When you come back, you will notice the size of the file IconCache.db is reduced, and the update is now the current date.

NOTE: If for some reason any IconCache.db isn't there or the size has not much changed then you can just restart the computer again. You may need to restart a few times in some cases.

  • shortcut icons on the desktop

OK, it is not important, but the names of my shortcut icons on the desktop, suddenly changed - now I have white writing on a gray background.  How to change?

You can use system restore to roll back the machine back to a point just before that the problem started.

(Thanks to Alan Edwards for what follows, a search for "icons transparent alan edwards" will always find quickly and easily the solution).

Four things are needed for the transparent icon backgrounds:

    1. Control Panel-System-Advanced-Performance settings.
Check "Shadows fall to use the desktop icon labels" on the display
    Effects tab.

2 - Click on Desktop - "arrange icons by" and ensure the lock Web
    items is disabled.

    3. transparency will not work if you have the web content on your desktop.
Control panel - display properties Desktop tab - customize the Office-
Web tab, clear all the check boxes.

    4. ensure that the wallpaper is an image file no HTML.

    Hello

    1. Why do you need to take ownership of the files and folders?

    2. what happens when you start the shortcut icons? Do you get any error messages?

3 What problem confined to a specific shortcut file?

Looks like the recent changes can break the link to the shortcut icons. You are looking for the original location of the file and try to access the program.

    Method 1:

Run the Fixit and see if it helps.

    Reference:

Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

    Method 2:

To run an application only once with a full administrator access token

    a. Locate the program icon or a shortcut in Windows Explorer.

    b. right-click on the program icon or shortcut and then click on run as administrator.

    Method 3: Restore the system

Restore the system to an earlier point before installing this application.

System Restore can return your files system to a point in time before you noticed a problem, without affecting documents, photos, or other personal files. If the system restore does not resolve the problem, you can undo the restore operation and choose a different restore point.

  • My recycle bin icon disappeared, how do I get it (currently using a 'shortcut' icon)

The displayed icons on the desktop (who are always there when you get a new computer) were all there at the time.  some time later, I realized that (the small wastebasket) recycling bin icon disappeared - I don't know why.  I was able to get back a "shortcut" on my desktop icon, but I couldn't find the original icon.  I have the shortcut icon has now the small arrow in the lower left corner, so I know that's not the original icon.  It works fine, but I was really puzzled as to why the original disappeared?  I had a lot of computers over the years and I never had this problem before?

  • Order of shortcuts/icons of toolbar will not remain after reboot/logoff

Here's my situation.  I created a toolbar on the taskbar of a folder on a network drive.  The fine created toolbar and icons of shortcuts/work.  I propose the shortcuts/icons in the order I want and lock the taskbar.  The order will stay like that until I logoff or restart. As soon as I did this all the shortcuts/icons resorted themselves by name in alphabetical order with folders first.  How can I stop station on reboot/logoff, I want to keep the shortcuts/icons in order that I put them in?  Thank you. Michael

I don't think it's possible because it deals with the taskbar as a folder and those defined to sort according to certain criteria (in alphabetical order by default).  Yes, I know it can be done in the Quick Launch toolbar and it retains the new boot boot settings - but I don't know if this is possible with the creation bar toolbars task (I don't think).

Maybe somebody else knows how (maybe with a registry change) but I don't thnk - but it is certainly possible. even if unlikely.

Sorry, I am unable to help you, but I think you're asking something that isn't psssible in Vista (even if it takes).

See if you can get out of this mess by doing a system restore. Choose the date until you have created this shortcut as you restore point.
In case you need the "How to":

Start button > Search box, typeSystem Restore > press enter > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, until the click > next > finish
To sit and wait. The machine restarts when it's done.

  • Shortcut icons and desktop Windows 7 file to change default

The shortcut icons for the Office 2010 applications on my desktop and icons for office and acrobat files have re-established a kind of default icon.

Try to recreate the icon cache and restarting didn't work.

The Microsoft fix - it rearranged only the icons without restoring the good.

Attempt to right click and reset the program that should open with the files does not change the icons back to normal

    Can someone tell me please:

    (1) how do I create/get a new set of icons

    (2) where should I copy this set of icons to

    (3) how to ensure that Windows 7 is directed to the exact location of these icons AND use them

I'm ok with changes to the registry, if I have to.

  • "Globe / icon" mysteriously takes the place of internet shortcut icons.

I guess this question is an ongoing thing with other users of IE 8.  Whenever I have create a shortcut on my desktop from a Web site, either more personal websites shortcut icon or I get that I guess being an icon by default, for example a white dog-eared page with an 'E' blue in the Center.  Which should, however, after a short time or even a day or two, the icon changes in this 'blue and green globe' or an icon of the "Earth-like" of the same color or nature.

In terms laymans, how can it be corrected, get rid of the blue and green globe icon, without having to personally go to change the files in the operating system of my computer.  I'm not and I guess a great many other users, are not a computer expert or a technician and we have enough trouble with this problem of "icon" without adding to our grief by changing orders that we do not know how to correct if something goes wrong.  Microsoft offers a download or maybe a fix for the problem of this icon of switching for those of us who are not so clever programming or to modify these commands?

Loving Windows 7, but do not love shortcut icons that have a spirit that is clean!

This problem occurs only on internet icons, although when you click it, you get the web page you wanted the shortcut to bring up, it's just that 'gawd awful' blue and green globe of the Earth that is the issue.

In the meantime, I found a solution much simpler which does not require a lot of time and patience.  For those who still have the same problem that I once had, read on...

    • Right-click on the offending icon (globe blue and green, etc.)
    • When the window opens click on "Properties".
    • Left click on "change icon".
    • In the upper right corner of the left window click 'Browse '.
    • Scroll down until you see "url.dll.
    • Left click twice on "url.dll," then...
    • Left click on 'Apply' and then left click on 'OK' in the next or the next window and you should have all familiar white dog-eared page with the 'E' blue in the Center where the times "awful gawd" globe once.  I took care of all my blue and geen 'globe icons' last night (27/07/10) and they have yet to return.  Simple, clean and... effective now.

Thanks for the timely response if I received on this post, it is appreciated. : o).

  • My shortcut icons are locked. How to unlock them?

My shortcut icons are locked and they won't open.  There is a small blue arrow in the lower left corner. They will work once if I restart the computer, but that's all.

    Hi Dan,.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum!

According to the description of the problem, it seems that you are unable to open the shortcut icons on the computer.

To guide you in the right direction, I need a little more information of the computer with the problem. Please help me answer the following questions:

    1. what happens when you try to open the icons?

    2. do you get an error message?

3 have there been recent changes made on the computer before the show?

Here are a few troubleshooting methods that you can try in order to solve the problem.

Method 1: Try to run fix it from the following link and check.

Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Method 2: try to rebuild the icon cache and check.

    a. open the Start Menu and type cmd in the search box and press on enter.

    b. in the command prompt, type each command line below one at a time then press ENTER after each single line.

    CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local

    DEL /a IconCache.db

    OUTPUT

    c. log off and log on, or restart the computer to recreate the icon cache.

Note: This helps rebuild and recreate a new file IconCache.db .

    Method 3:

I suggest to create a new user account and check. If the problem is resolved, then fix a corrupted user profile.

  • Download gTranslate extension. How can I place a shortcut icon on the taskbar module at the bottom of the page so that I can use it?

I added the gTranslate for Firefox extension. It is clearly shown in the list of current extensions that I have. I tried to place a shortcut icon on the toolbar at the bottom of the page module (back side where the page zoom-in/zoom icons are displayed).

Procedure, I used: right click on the empty space on the toolbar at the bottom of page module. Click "Customize". Opens the square shape of the icons, but I don't see anything for the extension of gTranslate, I could "drag / drop" on the toolbar of the add-on.

Ask for help with this issue.

gTranslate not icons. You must select the text, right-click and hover the mouse over the menu item translate... and wait that the translated text to appear. You can also change languages in the submenu, or alternatively via Firefox Tools (Alt + T) > Addons > Extensions, gTranslate Options.

  • Private browsing on right context menu on the shortcut icon of Mozilla's Firefox on MS Win XP

I am already aware that the Mozilla Firefox browser has the ability to always start Firefox in private browsing mode by putting the brand into its Options on...

However, I noticed that on MS Win 7 OS, we can run Mozilla Firefox browser directly, by clicking on the right click (context menu right) on Mozilla's Firefox shortcut icon (for example in Windows taskbar and Start Menu) and here are the options available immediately: 'Enter private browsing', 'New tab' and 'open a new fenΩtre '.

Now, my question is, can I do something that has the same options (or at least 'option to Enter private browsing), is also available on that even just before the track described as on MS Win 7 OS, but the MS Win XP operating system also?
