Should I buy the MacBook Air 13 (Early 2015)?

Hello everyone.

I currently own a Chromebook, product that I hope, I sell to help me get the MacBook Air 13. The purpose of the switch is the requirement for me to have a computer (with an operating system in its own right) that I can use for computer science stuff. However, I'm worried about the MacBook Air 13 (Early 2015; the 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB SSD model) is how obsolete, and its durability. I not looking for a laptop that will last me a year and performance degradation that are present or any downgrade of the user experience. I expect a computer that will give me at least 3 years of service and still work without any problems (excluding the damage caused to the user, but assume that I am a responsible person).

Any kind of help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Carlos

I bought my current computer in 2012: it is a basic model of MacBook Air mid-2012 (4GB / 128GB) now running the current OS 10.11.6 and is now 4 years old and works as if it were new.

  • MacBook Air 11 '' Early 2015: normal sleep/standby consumption?

    Hello

I can't help thinking that the power consumption of my MacBook Air 11 '' (early 2015) while "asleep" has increased lately - battery loses about 20% in 24 hours of sleep. "

So, here's my question: is a loss of battery charge about 1% by standard time?

I should add that I can see log files that the appliance has been in "Deep sleep" during sleep, as you can see here:

05.01.16 21:15:34, 000 kernel [0]: ARPT: 7953.437734: IOPMPowerSource information: onWake, SleepType: deep Idle, "ExternalConnected": No, "TimeRemaining": 4370.

I've already changed parameter of power management that the device should enter mode standby after 4 minutes of sleep (see below), which he seems not to do (always).

In the terminal, the command of g - pmset we get the following results:

    Active profile:

    Battery - 1 power *.

    Power supply - 1

    In use:

    standbydelay 240

    Watch 1

    halfdim 1

    hibernatefile/var/vm/drag

    PowerNap 0

    gpuswitch 2

    disksleep 10

sleep 2 (sleep prevented by AddressBookSourceSync)

    autopoweroffdelay 14400

    hibernatemode 3

    autopoweroff 1

    ttyskeepawake 1

    displaysleep 2

    acwake 0

    lidwake 1

BTW: I do not think that the entry "prevented... sleep." "really means the unit can not sleep - he lay in mode 'deep sleep '.

    Thanks for the ideas.

Thank you all for the many responses (SCNR)

Just to give me a follow-up (perhaps this helps someone in the future):

After a thorough analysis of the pmset g rawlog and console output that I discovered that my MacBook Air just don't go 'Deep rest' in mode 'Sleep' after the designated 'standbydelay'. Deleting the file drag (var/vm/drag) has not helped. What helped, however, was a reinstall of Mac OS X recovery (without removing the hard drive).

Since then, consumtion of power during the sleep returned to a much better behavior: during the first three hours of sleep, consumption is about 3%. Subsequently, the system performs a wake of maintenance for switch in the standby mode, and after that which consumes almost no more energy. So, after 24 hours, the overall loss of battery charge are still 3%.

    I'm happy again.

  • Flashing question mark in the Macbook Pro Retina early 2015 at startup problem

I have the 128 GB of Macbook Pro retina early 2015 model. I bought my macbook, the year last January 2015. I am just now having problem with my mac. When I'm trying to boot my laptop it shows the flashing question mark and it does not start after that. For a while it worked, but after the update the laptop is never again.

After reading all the articles related to this issue and even after trying it the entire process for the departure of mac. I'm not able to start.

I tried all the normal recovery process in the process of recovery of the internet, but still it does not work for me. When I select the disk utility in the dialog box, the drive does not appear here, so I can't erase and start to reinstall the operating system.

What should I do now? I was looking for OEM SSD, but it's very expensive. with this prize money of (here in INDIA RS - 50 k) I can get the Macbook Air.

If please guide me on how to start the mac or what do I do next?

    Thank you.

    Frank Bsu

We have no way of knowing exactly what you have tried that doesn't work unless you tell us. A flashing question mark boot means that your Mac is unable to locate a startup disk to boot from.

If you haven't tried... start your Mac holding the key Option. That should launch the boot window manager have been, you can select the startup disk, and then click on restart.

If this does not help, you will need to take the Mac for the service.

  • Bluetooth SPP very slow on the macbook 13 retina early 2015

I use the Bluetooth SPP profile much download code the arduino-based robots in my classes. This used to work fine on a Macbook (13-inch late 2011) unibody + Yosemite, but since I have upgraded to a Macbook 13 beginning 2015 retina, transfers are > 20 x slower with Bluetooth Explorer showing many broadcasts, although the RSSI is very high, and both devices are close together.

I have already filed a bug report to bugreport.apple.com (15 days ago), still no response whatsoever.

It happens to someone else? That is to say is - this just my computer that is faulty? It would also be useful if the computer even with an older version of OS X (Yosemite) working for someone else.

This is a screenshot of a transmission with the internal Bluetooth adapter to 115200 bps. Transfer rate should be, well... aound 11520 bytes/s. I get 550 B/s instead, a LOT of broadcasts:

And an another screenshot using an external USB bluetooth adapter (noname brand) (~ 12 Kbps good speed and 0% retrasmissions).

TL; DR: Flow slow Bluetooth SPP has been fixed in 10.11.4.

    Answer...

I reported this through http://bugreport.apple.com/ jan-9, then the mar - 21, I was warned that the next version should fix. The same day, I upgraded to 10.11.4 and it is indeed fixed. I get normal speeds (12 KB/s for a 115,2 Kbps link), see screenshot.

After a few months, I thought that this would never get the attention of Apple. Then... Thank you very much!!!

  • Should I buy a MacBook Pro to the Japan?

I am traveling to Japan in February and I was thinking of buying a MacBook (I don't know if I have to buy the macbook Air or MacBook Pro yet) I'm from South America, and I don't know if I should buy one to Japan, because of the keyboard and it loads in South America

Load the auto-commutateur blocks 120-240.  The wall-end-power cable changes of country.  Adaptation and new kits "end-track only cords can be purchased.

I suspect that Japanese stores have Japanese keyboards only and mapping of key with key-labels would be difficult.  But I suspect that it is a problem.

Maybe some import duty when you return home and rights to export when you leave... maybe.

  • Should I buy the air 11 ''?

So I am a student of high school United Kingdom and I'm debating what computer to buy? Really, I want the macbook air 11 '', but am put off by the size of the screen! I have 2 options, 1. Download air from 11 inches 2. buy a mac mini and a monitor at low prices. I mostly use the computer for PowerPoint and Word processing also a small amount of game design. So, what are your opinions? Go with the air 11 '' or get the mac mini? And who will be more practical?

(PS I don't travel a lot so therefore not need the portability, but I don't want to carry my laptop with me.)

Not sure why you didn't mention it, but the MacBook Air 11 '' seems too small, have you considered the 13 "MacBook Air?

  • Should I buy a Macbook Pro now or wait?

    Well Hello

Although not a technical support question, I just wanted to ask the community on my decision to come. Quick note, I work in it and have already decided on the Macbook Pro because of the needs of its use and don't need no recommendation based on form, thank you!

So, I put aside enough money to buy the Macbook Pro I've wanted for awhile now, I need a smaller but still powerful computer. Currently I have a 17 ""notebook"made for the game and it's a monstrosity away truly mobile heavy." This is beyond powerful with 32 GB of RAM, an i & - 4870HQ, one of the fastest SSD m2 on this side of the industry and it rips a GTX 980 M with 4 GB of video memory dedicated. What I'm basically is that I really don't need another PC, I need something that is both powerful and lightweight and I can't comfortable wear everywhere where I need to.

The next factor is the fact that I'll be moving to Indonesia in October. I need a cell phone smaller, lighter for the work that I can run a virtual machine with Windows to on it for work, whether through VirtualBox or Parallels. Believe it or not, concurrent computer virtual running independent of the OS can be very demanding! Also Apple products are a status symbol there. However, rumors, which I know that no one can confirm officially, pointing to a late summer or early fall release of the new Macbook Pro, but since WWDC is around the corner I think I'll wait and see if Apple chooses to surprise us. After that WWDC is when I will make my final decision, and that the decision is whether I should buy a Macbook Pro now or wait until the new is revealed. I love the promotion they have going now where you the beats certainly of high quality solo2 helmet and education, discount that I can use since I started back to school to get an MBA.

Yes, sorry to be long-winded and irrelevant, once or twice but I really appreciate all the comments. I expect many many time to make this purchase. I used to dislike apple products until I realized how beautifully, they are built and the high quality of the materials and the intuitive user interface. Already, I have an iPhone 6, an Apple Watch, an iPad Pro with the pencil of the Apple and the keyboard, and even this types on a keyboard of magic. I can't replace my PC awesome game, but I need something not quite as powerful, but a lot more portable.

TL; DR: Should I wait until the new Macbook Pro is out or take advantage of the current promotion and get a current model, and yes I am aware that the current model is more than a year.

Yes, thoughts? And thank you for your time!

You are the only person who can answer this question. All I can tell you is that I have a MBP 2014 and it's always great. I think you'll be happy no matter which you get.

  • PowerBook G4 can not get the audio signal of the MacBook Air

My MacBook Air (early 2014) have no audio input. I try to connect the audio output of my MacBook Air to the audio of my PowerBook G4, but it does detect any sounds when I play something on my MacBook Air. I tried the same thing with my iPhone 5 c and the PowerBook detects the sound of the iPhone. I know that there really large gap between the PowerBook G4 and MacBook Air but PowerBook should be able to detect the sound of the MacBook Air.

If you plug in regular headphones for the MacBook Air, do you get sound in the headphones?
