Should I use Windows update for updates or download Toshiba bullet only?

Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite laptop computer with Windows XP. I wonder what should I use windows update to download patches and additions or only
install quick fix from the Toshiba support pages? Is there a difference?

I noticed that to the Toshiba support site, there is no new update (miracles) have come in this year at all.

I ask this because I have some time ago asked Toshiba (when I contacted their support) I use only WLAN updates provided by Toshiba, Intel does not update even if I have the Intel WLAN card in my laptop and there was new driver at the side of Intel.

I agree with the previous user. I never installed all the patches page download Toshiba, just used Windows Update option in Explorer. So far, I've never noticed some problems.

If you clean the OS installation I recommend you to install SP2 (if missing) and after doing this run Windows updates.

I can't tell you much on Intel, but I repeatedly used newer drivers directly from the Intel download page.

  • Error number: 0 x 80240036 when you try to use Windows Update on a "gross" SP2 system

I just installed XP SP2 and Office and must now updates.

    Avast! antivirus is installed.

Hello, John. Windows Update or automatic updates needs SP3 for work. Then please proceed as follows:

Download the installation of SP3 and IE8 files. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links for the installation files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

    1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!

    2. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.

3 IMPORTANT! Because antivirus often programs interfere with the installation of Service Packs, they must be disabled! Therefore:

set up a clean boot environment:

    1. Click Start, click run, type msconfig and click OK.
    2. The System Configuration utility dialog box appears.
    3. Make sure the general tab is selected, and then click the circle to Start diagnosis .
    4. Click OK.
    5. Turn it back on.

Note: once this process is completed, you will come back eventually on Normal startup.

    4. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

5 move to IE8. Restart TWICE. (Note: it is important to let IE at the level before the upgrade to SP3 IE6.) After you are in SP3, then you can switch IE6 to IE8).

    6 cancel the Diagnostic Mode:

    1. Click Start, click run, type msconfig and click OK.
    2. The System Configuration utility dialog box appears.
    3. Make sure the general tab is selected, and then click the Normal Startup circle.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Turn it back on.

    7. make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

Start | Control Panel | Security Center

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet.)

8 visit Windows Update to download and install only critical security update (stay away the optional updates!). Restart each time you are prompted.

    9. reactivate the automatic updates.

    Hello:

First of all, you can use Windows Update to download and install the latest drivers. If you still have missing drivers after doing this, you will need to manually download the drivers from the support page of your laptop.

Do you have other accounts of users on this PC?  If you install this update from the main account?

You should get the number of the update of the updated history list and then download the file here: Microsoft downloads.
If sure that nothing else is running, and then install the update manually.  Give it a try and let us know the results.

  • try to use Windows Update with Windows Mobile 6.1 gets error code 80072ee7

First of all, I don't know why it is not a category to select Windows Mobile as the "main product" this issue is about.  Microsoft should really put in place the best support for their mobile products.

That being said, here's my problem.  On my AT & T Tilt, which operates under Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, I can very well browse the web, use applications that require the transmission of data, connect to a wireless network in the region and can synchronize with my PC Vista very well... but try to use Windows Update to the operating system is up to date always fails each time with the same error code, no matter what I try to do.

I saw something on the fixing of the same code error on Windows 7, but I don't think that it applies as Mobile 6.1 does not have a "Drivers" folder in the Windows system folder.  Solution Windows 7 involved by changing the "Hosts" file, but I can't seem to find where such a file may be under Mobile 6.1, or if Windows Mobile uses even a Hosts file at all.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?  Or am I pretty much just stuck, until I can afford to get one of the new 6.5 ridiculously expensive smartphones?

    Hi wbdes,

Since it is a support forum for Windows Vista and 7 consumption, these BONES are for the laptop computer desk/computer system.  You should try to repost your question in the forum specific to Windows Phone for best results.

    Hi B_Tan,

Please take a look at the following information previously published by TaurArian:

Some have reported that simply re-register the MSXML3. DLL seems to fix the problem.
    1. click on start.
    2. choose Execute.
    3. in the run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3. DLL
    Press OK

If this did not help, you may be re-recorded some files more:

    1. click on start.
    2. choose Execute.
    3. in the run box, type (pressing well after each one): -.

    net stop wuauserv

    Repeat the following:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wups.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll

    regsvr32 qmgr.dll

    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    net start wuauserv

Well, you use an old laptop of 8 years with a 11 year old operating system - it takes a little go extra step to get things.

I guess you all hardware from the manufacturer drivers so that everything works?  You can verify that you have the latest versions by visiting manually from the manufacturer web page, support and drivers section and go through at least the most important... chipset motherboard, video, audio, network, etc.

    After that...

Have you installed the Service Packs again?

Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Restore to factory state out of the box. Can I install all updates from Microsoft using Windows update or can I install antivirus first before to connect to internet?

Currently Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x 86 (no patches since 2008). Currently, it has no AV and has not been connected to the internet yet. It will be behind a router.

I had to redo the factory already reset after be connected to the net for 20 minutes and then a bunch of programs kept crashing saying Data Execution Prevention had to close the program StackHash and BEX error when executing update for HP drivers.

Maybe I installed Kaspersky first next time?

    What should I do?

    Thank you!

No problem. Install the updates. You can install the anti-virus later.

Just don't start browsing the inet by updating.
