  • Control Panel shows that 4 GB of RAM, but product specs say I should have 8GB

My HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250f desktop computer is supposed to get 8 GB of the RAM factory installed, but the control panel shows only 4 GB. When I run the diagnostic with the Support Assistant software it says that everything is working well, but also shows that 4 GB of RAM. I've had the computer for several months and the warranty just expired. In the past, I noticed it says 4 GB and thought that I should have bought a computer with only 4 GB, but it has always seemed strange to me. I looked towards the top of the record online and it says the HPE-250f has of 8 GB, and it also says 8 GB on the box in which it came. I didn't do any changes to the computer and never open the Cabinet. I hesitate to open the cupboard, but do not feel I should have to pay a lot of money to understand this.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

It took me a few tries - and months of frustration - but I solved the problem by carefully removing the memory cards, clean gently slots and cards and firmly the resettlement of the cards. It's been several months now, but the memory has been resolved. I had serious problems, as it is stated in this thread, with a catastrophic failure of the graphics card and HARD disk failure. I read on several posts that this particular graphics card was problematic, so I've upgraded to a Radeon HD 7700 series. I got the Core edition, which has 2 GB of memory defect to 1 GB. No problem since.

In case of hard drive failure, it was a disaster! I replaced the HARD drive of 1 TB with a 512 GB SSD, but it kept the infection by a rootkit that I couldn't clean up. I tried cleaners virus and rootkit of several software companies with no joy. Not even the first products like Kaspersky, McAfee, Sophos, BitDefender and other companies. I reformatted the drive several times, but the hook came back in return. Finally, I brought the computer to a friend who is a computer SCIENCE professional. The rootkit probably lies in the commercial cloning software (Acronis True Image HD) that came with the SSD, it said. We loaded the operating system without using Acronis and have not had any problems since! I've also installed a WD Blue 1 TB HDD and rebuilt directories so that all libraries (Documents, photos, videos, etc.) are on the disk hard while the system is installed on the solid state drive. The upgrades were worth every penny! Now, my desktop HP 5 years computer works very well and the performance is very good even by today's standards. Boot times are much faster, too.

    Hello

I have a Satellite M40-296 with 512 MB of RAM. I bought a 1024 MB of RAM (from Kingston) and put it in the computer. He could show about 1500 MB, but I only have 1024. It s like the work of a few Don t of 512 MB.
I took out the 512 MB and I 1024Mo, but if I put the 512 MB 1024MB still.

I updated the BIOS to 1.20

    Can someone help, please?

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

Normally, you can move the laptop to 2 GB RAM max.
Did you test each module in each slot?

I put t know that's wrong exactly, but I think that the modules are not compatible together if only the 1 GB module will be recognized.
Normally for optimal compatibility two modules with the same characteristics and size must be installed.

I recommend buying a second module of Kingston.

-inserted only 1 stick in the drive and the pc started ok showing 1 GB of RAM
-then I inserted the same stick in another location and it also worked well showing 1 GB of RAM
    - then I checked another unit of the RAM in the same way and worked well
-When I try to put 1 GB of Ram and the old 512 MB RAm the BIOS correctly showed the new value of 1.5 GB
-i also checked the other 1 GB of ram and the old 512 MB of ram and showed good again in the Bios with the value of 1.5 GB
    - but when I tried to put the 2 ram set units to obtain the BIOS only detected 1 GB 2 GB.

I think the problem is that the two s of RAM are not compatible, but it is not explained to me because use you two identical modules.

In your case I return the RAM to the computer dealer and say the modules work together in your notebook, but your laptop definitely supports 2 GB of RAM.

I think that there is no other way because you have updated your BIOS to the latest version.

  • 4 GB ram only show 2.61 GB of ram.

my computer is Windows Ultimate on a 32-bit computer, which is the maximum amount of memory 4GB.

My computer shows I have 4 GB but only 2.61 GB of ram is available.
My BIOS says I have a total of 4 GB of ram and my onboard GPU uses 512 MB of that so I should have 3.5 GB of ram.
Please help me get my 3.5 GB of ram on my computer.

W7 32-bit cannot access an absolute maximum of 4 GB ram and generally less 3.5 G or less.

    See - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978610

It depends on the exact configuration of your system and other material you have.

2.61 G seems a little weak, but its not unusual. In fact if you search on Google, very few people seems report 2.61 G as well.

  • Satellite L350 - Vista shows only 2 GB of RAM, but I have 4 GB installed

I installed 2 two modules expansion memory of 2 GB each to my satellite L350 that works on Windows Vista Premium.
I bought at Toshiba UK who confirmed that they were the correct modules.

The System Control Panel icon always indicates RAM 2 GB (not 4GB) memory.
If I remove one module 2 GB, the system icon of 2 GB (which is correct) said Control Panel.
I have re-installed the two modules and changed their round in the slots, but the system icon still says 2 GB.

  • Photoshop CS5.5 does not show the right amount of RAM

I have a PC with 3.25 MB of memory.  I recently bought the CS5.5 creative Suite.  I change my preference when I noticed on the performance under memory usage tab, it says:

    Available RAM 1569
    Ideal range: 863-1129

    I use Photoshop: 941 MB

Anyone know why Photoshop is only see 1/2 of my memory?

You run the 32-bit version of Photoshop, which can not use all the system RAM.

You use also a 32 bit OS, then you will not be able to run the 64-bit version.

In 32 bits, Photoshop can use up to 2 GB of address space.

And some of this space is used by the binary files, plugins, presets, etc.

  • Satellite Pro A200 - shows only 3 GB instead of 4 GB of RAM

    Hello

2 years ago I had a Satellite Pro A200 as a professional laptop and it works with XP SP2, later with SP3. With 2 GB, it shows 2 GB memory in Windows - and I know it's a Radeon 7500 with 256 MB memory graphics individual, and there is no shared memory.

I upgraded to 4 GB, but Windows shows exactly 3 GB. BIOS shows 4 GB and ATI system monitor shows 4 GB. I know that 4 GB is not possible under XP 32-bit, only on Windows 2003 R2 32 bit or Vista - but on desktop systems, I've seen values between 3.3 and 3.7 GB.

So, where's the memory? It looks like a bug - the chips of memory have two 2 GB I checked this. Because it's a company laptop I can not just switch to 64-bit XP :-(

There's no option in the BIOS - first I thought that it is the graphics card, but mine has independent graphics with own memory so that the computer comes up with MB 2048 or 4096 after the upgrade.

Shared memory would show about 1900 MB of RAM for the operating system as my private EEEpc.

    Hi shadowmaster_1,

    > I know that 4 GB is not possible under XP 32 bit
Then why do you ask this question here if you already know? Moreover, it s not a limitation in XP, it s a material limitation on all 32-bit systems

    > only on Windows 2003 R2 32 bit or Vista
And who says that Windows 2003 or Vista can use 4 GB? Okay, there's an update for Vista where 4 GB correct displayed in system properties, but that doesn't make no difference. Vista 32 bit peut t use all of 4GB, it s only cosmetic improvements! ;)

    > So where is memory?
Memory is installed on your computer, but can t be used complelty with a 32 bit OS.

At the end of the story: If you want to use 4 GB, you need to install a 64 bit OS. On all the 32 bit OS, you can use only upward to ~3.2GB RAM!

I have Windows Vista 32 bit installed in my system with 2 GB of RAM, and it worked perfectly.
