  • Failure of the security update for Windows xp

Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

    Ideas:

    • You have problems with programs
    • Error messages
    • Recent changes to your computer
    • What you have already tried to solve the problem

, Then they have all the same numbers but automatic updates. I do not know why they do not?  Is my computer in danger? What someone knows something about it?  Can someone let me know, I would really appreciate it.  Thank you :)

Lower-right, now, I get an exclamation icon, when I click on it, it lets me know that I have updates to install, it goes through the whole procedure, but he then shows how they all failed.  Just today, I had 18 of them.  They are all updated for Windows XP security they all begin with (KB) other numbers are all different. (KB978601), (KB979683), (KB978338), (KB979309), (KB981332), (KB977816), (KB980232) Microsoft Update.

I would try reinstalling Windows Update Agent Installer first.  Here is a link to the Microsoft site that explains how to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104.   Go to the section how to get the last update agent, as it is already installed.  Scroll down to the section under the information tab, called Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.    Choose the one that fits your computer (x 86, x 64, Itanium).  Run this update and follow the instructions.  Windows Update will now be reinstalled, but it's a good idea to restart at this point.  Check if your updates to install.

Otherwise, you may need to install manually by following the directions below:

    (1) Download Center to visit Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx
    (2) search for each update code that begins with the letters "KB" and followed by a set of numbers (i.e. KB979309)
    3) click on the link for the download and then click on download and run. You must accept the agreement and then click on continue.
    (4) repeat this process for each download of updates Windows could not install.
    (5) run Microsoft update again, and click Find updates.  If all goes well, it will show that you are completely patched.

It is always better to stay completely patched, as many of them are security-related.  If the solutions above do not work for you, I recommend that you run a full scan on your computer.

I have 27 updates to windows to do, and I get error update failed when you try to install. The reason why I have so many updates is that I had windows vista and I tried to update and it caused problems with my internet connection wireless, and I didn't have the time to deal with it, so I stopped updating. • Several errors Windows Update - what I found online is not accomplish anything.

My apologies for not reading the instructions...

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  Unfortunately my history of editing does not go far back enough to show the last successful update installed before this problem occurred.  I think it was shortly after I installed in August 2010 on a clean formatted disk.

I tried to run the system update readiness tool recommended by the troubleshooting of Microsoft tools.  This had no effect.  Also, I tried to create a new profile to see if it was related to it somehow.  I had a similar problem on windows xp 64-bit with updates do not install it.

All other updates that are NOT these 4 install fine.

I've been running MS Security Essentials since install with the current definitions.

So I had those same 4 updates for awhile now and they install never regardless of what I do or what tool I run.  They are:

KB980232 returns the 8024200d error code
    KB982526 returns error code 800b0100
KB2347290 returns the error code 80073712
KB982665 returns the error code 80073712

They show that updates of security, and I want to review the possibilities to get to install them.  Otherwise, I'll just have to format and reinstall.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Greetings,

Sorry, you have problems getting your patches installed. I have a number of things for you to look at.  First of all, your Background Intelligent Transfer Services set to Automaticand started and Windows Update ? They both should be started. You can check these settings by typing services.msc in the search box of the start menu.

Usually, I recommend installing the patches manually at this stage.  However, you have many of them, so I would try running first Microsoft OneCare safety scanner.  Sometimes it will solve problems of hidden registry, or can clear the virus that can prevent the installation of the patches: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm. Click full service scan, and then Quick scan (full scan takes a long time to complete). Try the patches.

If this does not work, you may need to use to install them manually:

    (1) Download Center to visit Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx.
    (2) search for each update code that begins with the letters "KB" and followed by a set of numbers (i.e. KB979309).
    3) click on the link for the download and then click on download and run.  You must accept the agreement and then click on continue.
    (4) repeat this process for each download of updates Windows could not install.
    (5) to rerun the update from Microsoft, click find updates.  If all goes well, it will show that you are completely patched.

    Hope this helps,

    Barbara

  • 12 security update and still in pending with 80242014 error code

I'm running a vista 32 nome. I noticed that my windows update will always try to updated. some things get updtaed however more security updates are not. they all have an error code 80242014. the last update for vista (kb981332) worked and updated but there are 12 others that are still pending. It is the list of all updates on hold with this error code.  KB973917 KB975561, KB908182, KB978338 KB977816, KB978601, KB981349, KB979683, KB980232, KB980182.

I don't know what it takes in this respect can someone please advise.

    Thank you

External drives (including flash & SDCards readers) should consider suspect/infected, too, at this point.

After doing the clean install, do NOT connect any such player to the computer until you've taken care of everything in my previous post (especially KB971029 manually install).

Before you transfer the data saved on your main drive, run a full scan of the system on data using your anti-virus/anti-spyware applications freshly installed & updated updated (and perhaps this scan online: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm).

Speaking of which, you can consider installing Microsoft Security Essentials (free) instead of the application of McAfee or, indeed, any other app/AV security suite:http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

PS: I would also say very strongly change all of your passwords both now and regularly thereafter. See:

    Here's my initial/situation question, posted yesterday 07/28/10:

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium
    Version 6.0 (Build 6002: Service pack 2)

    System
    Manufacturer: HP
    Model: HP G5000
    RAM: 1.00 GB
    Operating system: 32-bit

Impossible to install 2 updates of windows:

    KB970892
Update of security for SQL Server 2005 Service pack 3
    Installation status: failed
    FF error code
    Last attempt: failure of 28/07/10 @ 20:46
First try: failure of the 17/10/09 @ 08:18

    KB978338
    Update security for Windows Vista
    Installation status: failed
    error code 800 b 0100
    Last attempt: failure of 28/07/10 @ 20:42
First try: failure of the 14/04/10 @ 20:26

Interesting to note that there were other updates successfully.
under the same title, with different codes during the same time period:

    Security for Windows Vista update:

    11/06/10 KB980218 success
    11/06/10 KB979559 success
    11/06/10 KB979482 success
    17/04/10 KB980232 success
    15/04/10 KB981332 success
    15/04/10 KB979309 success

    15/04/10 KB979683 success
    KB978542 05/14/10 success

System is running updates on a daily basis and regularly tried to install update 2 above >
I have also tried the download from the icon of Windows Update on the Tools toolbar.
Have also tried clicking the button stop start menu (as updates are available)
    These are also unsuccessful.

After clicking to download updates from Windows updates, I go to the Windows Update screen
    Preparation for installation
    Creating a restore point
    Installation update 1 of 1
Update of security for the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (KB970892)
    Then within 3 minutes:

"The hotfix installer has stopped working and was closed".
A problem with the application to stop functioning properly.
Windows will notify you if a solution is available. »

    Antivirus / Firewall: Norton 360
I checked with Norton as I suspected that it can block fix from
Download/Installation of the update. They advised me that it was not, it was
a Microsoft error and that I should contact Microsoft.

Can anyone help please?  Out of my mind with this one.

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. "Leftovers" can be cause of your problem.

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (includingLiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of Norton 360 2010 using your product ID & reboot:http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8. open IE (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 , and run the difficulty it [trust me]

8B. open IE (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 and run the Fix It in DEFAULT and modes and AGGRESSIVE.

    9. restart & test.

Put the KB numbers in the search at the above link > download them manually.

    ========================

    My answer

[...] However, the problem is not not downloading, but it's the installation later. Some return immediately with a failed installation (80070003) and others fail to install after the required reboot of Vista (8007371C).

A repair install is the usual solution of SFC/scannow does not work.
However, a repair (AKA In-Place Upgrade) installation will be not solve the problem if it is due to a hijackware infection.

If you don't know how to do a repair install, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044
Method 2 (do not hold account of the article refers to the error code, I only use it as an example of how repair installation).

NB: If you have installed SP1 or SP2 for Vista

Step 7 (method for Windows Vista), the * UPGRADE option is not available because Service Pack/s are installed and that your operating system is newer than the system you are trying to reinstall, so service pack/s must be removed in this case.

  • Cannot install KB980182 + 17 other updates - error 0x8007371c or "does not apply to this system".

I am running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2, 32-bit. For example, I have the 8.0.6001.18828 version. I use AVAST AV and Comodo Firewall. I've never had McAfee.

I have 18 'Important' Windows Vista updates will not be installed: several updates, several windows Vista updates, etc. Back to 08/12/09 and 27/04/10 the most recent. They start to add up. Here is a screenshot of them:

    http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/5003/updatesl.PNG

For about 11 of them, let's say in the meantime (until restarted), but then after the resumption, that they do not have to install but have no error code. The event viewer indicates that they are 'not applicable for this system' (then why they have been downloaded?). Who does not apply are: KB905866 KB971468, KB972270 KB979683 KB978601, KB977816, KB978338, KB979099, KB974318, KB980248, KB980232.

The rest of them, as (for example, KB980182) will fail because of an error of 8007371 C. In Event Viewer, they all have a sequence of error similar to this one (it's for KB980182):

    ###

    Things I've tried:

    1. installation after a clean boot - at first, seems to be successful that I can get the list to the left of 1 or 2, but at some point given shortly after they all reappear.

2A ran the System File Checker that comes up: "Windows Resource Protection has not found any breach of integrity."

3 reset Windows Update components (manually or with the "FixIt" solution to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/971058?p=1)

    4. stop of services related to Windows Update, rename system folders, saving and then associated DLL files by restarting services (as described here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vistainstall/thread/ed275467-5580-41dc-9ccc-3c1e22c6fd28)-same result

5 install in safe mode - gives me "Setup has encountered an error: 0x8007043c.» This service cannot be started in safe mode. »)

    6. scan the hard disk for errors (e.g., check disc) - Nothing found

    7. search for viruses, Trojans and malware - do not have

    8. install with UAC, anti-virus and firewall off the coast - same result

9 install the upgrade preparation tool system for Windows Vista (KB947821) [January 2010] (with UAC, AV, etc off), but the installation 'failed' (no error code). Installation in safe mode it gives me the «...» "0x8007043c. this service cannot be started in safe mode."

    10. manually install them - same result

A short circuit contact MS have exhausted the options?

Thank you. This is not a beta or Release Candidate build both fuhgeddaboutit and open a free support incident.

PS: I think you will find that the updates are not installed due to infection hijackware, Kurt.
