side bar of the Finder window

I have a folder showing in my Finder called deleted users window dresser. (I think this came from a re-setup of time machine) If I try to open it I get 'Deleted users' cannot be opened because the original item cannot be found. "I want to remove this folder from the sidebar, but cannot find a way to do it. I'm under El Capitan. Can anyone help please?

CTRL-click it and choose to withdraw, or command-click and drag out.

  • Impossible to delete folders in the Favorites menu in the side bar of the Finder

Since I upgraded to El Capitan, I was unable to delete folders in the Favorites menu in the side bar of the Finder. If I drag a folder in the sidebar of the Finder, it works normally. But when I decide to remove it by dragging it out he disappear. When I drag it cross-brand 'X' appears, and when I let go it makes the 'pop' sound and animated clouds appear briefly, just as he always has, but the folder again snaps and is still in the Menu favorites. I tried to use all kinds of modifier with this action keys, but no change. The only way to get rid of the file is to disconnect and back in, or sometimes it requires a complete reboot in order to get rid of it.

Also has anyone seen this behavior? I searched online for almost a year for a solution and I have not found a single instance of this ever reported bug. I use a 2011 13 "MacBook Pro running OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 but I have had this problem since the first version of El Capitan." Thanks for any help or idea.

It is not El Capitan. I've never seen this problem in versions of El Capitan, or ever in Yosemite. Maybe you have some question on the computer that is initially only as a bad Finder preferences file or a bad cache folder Finder.

  • Status bar in the Finder Windows?

I remember that there used a status bar (or the information bar or whatever) at the bottom of all the Finder Windows by default with information such as the number of files in the current folder, etc, but I do not see it in El Capitan. Is there a way to turn this back on? It was very useful.

  • The desktop icon in the side bar of the Finder displays incorrectly.

OK... it's a bit annoying, but for some reason. The desktop on the Sidebar icon has been switched to that of a generic folder.

Already checked and unchecked on the preferences panel, rebooted, time without end, emptied each cache with CleanMyMac. and even checked whether the icon lives on the hard drive in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ and here IT is... the watch icon reach same ok in the menu.

Its only in my user session on mac, works ok for other users on the same machine...

    any ideas?

    Temporarily remove com.apple.finder.plist and test.

Close all windows and close all applications.

Hold down the option key and click on the "Go" in the Finder menu bar menu.

Select 'Library' in the menu drop-down, then the folder "Preferences".

    Search for this file.

    com Apple.Finder.plist

Right-click on it and select "Move to trash" from the context menu.

    Restart the computer.

    If this does not help:

Right-click to the trash icon in the Dock and choose 'open '.

Right-click on the com.apple.finder.plist and choose 'Put Back'.

  • How to make the side bar of the finder 'Today' and 'This week' options given (they disappeared when I loaded El Capitan)?

These options from the sidebar formularies very conveniently in any program that has been done to this day or week and now in el capitan, I can't find any way to get them there! Help...? THX

    Create them.

Cmd - F in the Finder to open a search window.

Define criteria to display files with is today: yesterday | this week |... If you don't see the type of date you want, select another, and then search Date. In this menu, you can check the box to keep in the list of issues, if you like.

Once finished setting up, click on the "Save" button, give it a name and make sure that adding it to the sidebar is enabled.

When you start a search, you may need to set the folder. Default values have set "search this Mac". When you run a search, it will default to this option and allow you to select the currently selected folder. Or, you can change the Finder preferences to use the current folder to start the search. Whatever it is, place it in your home folder just pick up your items.

My external hard drive does not appear in my sidebar of the Finder on my MacBookPro. It is mounted (I checked the disk utility) and my Finder preferences are set for the drives appear in the sidebar. It's a Toshiba 2 TB and I can access it on other MacBookPros.

Just to check, you have the option turned on in Finder-> Preferences-> sidebar.

Double check because there is another option in the Finder-> Preferences-> general of external drives to appear on the desktop.

  • Drive not appearing is not in the side bar of the Finder

Flash drives are not appearing in the sidebar of the finder. I went in the Finder preferences to check if it is has been to do so, and it is. Ive never changed this setting and what's happening all of a sudden. External hard disks always appear on the desktop, and I can navigate to them by searching "/ Volumes/Drive. It appears in the fine disc utilities. Despite all this, it just will not be displayed in the sidebar. Ive a restart the computer and made a clear LANDAU. So far I have only tested with Flash drives. This problem is recent, and it was never a problem before.

The only thing that may have something to do with it, I noticed is that for always takes the index in the research Spotlight. Could this be the problem and is there a solution for this?

    Hi Macjsus:

I know you said that you went in the Finder preferences to check if it has been implemented.

So make sure you done General "Drives" are selected?

Also under 'Sidebar', you guaranteed "Drives" are selected.

  • Unknown devices shared on the side bar of the Finder

    Quick overview of my MacBook:

MacBook Air (13 inch, early 2015)

OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Version

So I just moved into my place of residence of the school, we are provided access to the Wi - Fi connection for students. When I connected to the WiFi, peripheral unknown begin to appear on the "Shared" tab after a few minutes (which could be peripheral other students also connected to the Wi - Fi connection)

Should I worry, as if they can see my browsing history? Or they can browse my device?

Is there a solution to the 'non-shared' to all of these devices? (The context menu does not show that delete all option device or something similar)

Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad English.

They can not see anything on your Mac and may not even be aware that your Mac is there with them.

These computers only send messages on the network to show you that they are there and you can try to communicate with them.

You have sharing services turned on in sharing the System Prefs? If this is not the case, they don't see you.

You can remove most of them by turning off computers Hello in the sidebar of Finder preferences.

  • Firefox prompts to save passwords of websites. The key to the Password Manager icon appears on the left side of the address bar, but the corresponding window asking if I want to save the password or not, does not appear. I tried all the possible solutions

I installed the latest version of Firefox on my laptop (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). The thing is that firefox prompt to save passwords of websites. I'll explain you a little more away with an example: suppose I load www.gmail.com. When I login, the password manager key is displayed on the left side of the address bar, but the corresponding window which would ask if I want to save the password or not, does not appear. I tried all the possible solutions. It is true that when I restart firefox with disabled modules (safe mode), password manager works fine. But I don't really use Add-ons that could prevent firefox to save passwords. I disabled all add-ons and ran firefox in normal mode, but the password manager does not work yet. Please keep in mind that I tried everything and that any post not published so far describes a similar problem to mine case. Consider that I have the same I have configured the entire system from the beginning. The problem appeared again from the first time I launched firefox. At that time, I had not installed any antivirus software and there is no add-on with firefox. Hope someone can give me a valid solution...

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).

It is possible that there is a problem with key3db and signons.sqlite files that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.

Rename signons3.txt and signons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

You can add .old files (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) names or move them to another folder to make it possible to cancel the action.

You must define a new master password after renaming or removing the signons3.txt and all the currently saved passwords are lost.

If that worked, then you can delete the renamed files that are no longer needed.

  • Bar of the active window, the missing or hidden menu bar

Today after opening a PDF file, my bar of the window active (top) and the Acrobat menu bar would not display. It is Acrobat 9.5.5. Instead of giving me the normal bar of the active window and the menu bar, it would give a gray buttons Acrobat menu. Whenever I have it back to normal via F9, just not like this. It's extremely frustrating. I can't find any setting in preference to the difficulty of this return to normal for good. Help, please. Thank you.

I just upgraded to Mac OS Sierra and noticed that the windows in the Finder now scroll vertically (up and down) with scroll on the right side bar and I can't change it to be able to scroll horizontally (left and right) with the bar scroll on the bottom. I was always able to scroll horizontally according to icon, if the option had been abandoned?

  • Problem with the finder windows... Why what is happening

It started today. I don't know how to solve this problem... it seems that the overtime, I opened a window of the scrollbar are right in the Middle, I can bring it back to the right but then when I re - open the same window, it goes back to this. Is this a problem?

No, this isn't a problem, it's a preview for a Finder window pane:

If you don't want to see it: Finder > Menu bar > View > preview hide, or use: shift - command - P

NB. You can enable or disable the preview pane, to display the preview: Finder > Menu bar > display > show preview, or use: shift - command - P
