Significant improvements to a Thinkpad R61e, advice needed

I will try soon to upgrade a laptop Home Basic edition of Windows Vista 32 bit (7649-CTO). The end result, I hope, will be:
(1) Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit install disk
(2) used Intel X - 25 M 160 GB SSDSA2M160G2GC 2.5 "SSD Solid State Hard Drive 3Gbps 250 MB/s
(3) used 4 GB (2x2gb) PC2-6400 Samsung pin from 200 to 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM computer laptop memory RAM-Chips
(4) new 9 Cell battery for IBM Lenovo Thinkpad R61e 10.8V
(5) Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 2.6 GHz, 800 MHz FSB 6 MB L2 35W TDP are used
(6) new optical Bay SATA Protronix 2nd hard drive Caddy, universal for 12.7 mm CD / DVD Drive Slot
(7) new Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1 TB 5400 RPM 8 MB 2.5 "Laptop hard drive SATA2

My problem is to determine what I need to do and in what order. I don't know if I need to update the BIOS for that motherboard can use new drives to SATA 2 speed or if Windows 7 takes care of this for me. I don't know if I can install everything again at once, then boot and install Windows 7 - or - if I need to take a progressive approach with hardware upgrades, after I installed the SSD and Windows 7. I am also concerned about possible conflict with the fact that I won't have any of the software installed at the factory on this new SSD, but I heard that once I finished the system of downloadable upgrades from the Lenovo site that should take care of all the function keys and the volume on the keyboard.

I have read some very useful posts on this forum who guided me to what brands of equipment and models to buy, and the processor is classified as a spare part for my computer so I know it is compatible. I'm mostly concerned about the process of obtaining of the SATA 2 drives my speeds without doing something for BIOS that may alter the data these drives will store.

Am I being too paranoid?

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum!

You need a BIOS modded (non-Lenovo) to reach speeds of SATA II on * 61 generation of ThinkPad, otherwise you'll be stuck with SATA I as well as with the inability to upgrade your CPU to a Penryn Core as T9500 unit.

Google for "Middleton BIOS. It must be installed with the processor of origin still in place, before any update.

All your edits make sense, but with the amount of money you spend on them a recent ThinkPad can be easily bought.

Good luck.

  • Improvement of the reception of the WAP54G - advice needed

Hi, I got hung a pair of units WAP54G, down the bridge of 100 meters from our House, in a holiday home.  One is connected to our router, the second is in the remote region, with a switch, then a third WAP54G distribute the signal in this remote area.

This set works like a charm, BUT as it is a holiday home, we really need to put out of sight, bridge unit in the loft.  For the moment that it is in the direct line of sight to another unit, they are both on the window sills.  It's OK, but we'd like to get the second bridge out of sight to keep people from bothering with it.  I tried to put in the same position as on the windowsill, but in the loft, where he is originally of cladding (no brick etc, just wood and plastic), but he can't see the other device when it is in this position.

Are there branches that I would be able to buy to give a better reception on this bridge? Ideally I'd like a pair of outdoor units I can screw to the wall on the respective buildings and then put a short cable (2-3metres) back inside the units.  This brings me to the second part of the query - boxes have two antennas on the back of them.  When I set up an antenna to gain high only just leave the second OEM stick to the back of the unit, or what? If these antennas be deployed as symmetrical pairs, or anything like that?

I'm really happy for the operation of the system, on the whole, I want just a small extra reception!

Thanks much for any reply and the advice on that.

There are a number of commercially available external antennas. Anything with 7dbi or better should work fine. The connector is referred to as a RP - TNC

Just mount the WAP54G near the antenna in order to reduce the length of antenna cable and mount the external antenna (outdoor) on the map of the barge and your outside.

Get power and Ethernet for the WAP54G should be very simple.

  • Advice needed on improving the system

    Forum of expensive equipment,

I built a computer 5 years ago (mainly based on the advice of evil ) who has worked for me since then. However, I just built a system (small) (I5, MB: 6.0 Gb/s SATA gates, etc.) to a member of the family and it is so much faster that my old I took him wanted him and decided to upgrade my system.

    My current system:

      1. Motherboard: ASUS P6X68D Premium
      2. Processor: Intel Core i7 930
      3. Chipset: Intel X 58 / ICH10R
      4. Memory: 24 GB (DDR3)
      5. Graphics card: MSI GEFORCE GTX 970 (NVIDIA)
      6. Motherboard ports:
        • 6 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s at HDs 5 and 1 OD
        • SATA 6.0 Gb/s on front eSATA port
        • SATA 6.0 Gb/s to hot box switchable front panel

(The system is on an individual disk.  E and F are "Work" and "Scratch" each consists of two drives in RAID 0. All discs are 1 TB, SATA II).

    New system (I think):

      1. Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X 79 LGA 2011
      2. : Core I7 - 3930K Hexa-Core processor

Other components of the old system would be used.

    Issues related to the:

    1. This system would be "a lot" faster (not a specific question for a physicist ) than the current one?
    2. I would RAID?
    3. Would be the SSD anywhere (but not all!) in the system to fix even more?

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Thank you

    LACI.

Of course, it all depends on the budget available, but if I upgrade now an i7-930, these would be my main ingredients:

    • CPU: i7-5930 K or i7-5960 X. Not the i7 - 5820K as suggested above because of the limitation of only 28 PCIe lanes, which closes off the coast of expansion capability.
    • Mobo: Asus X99E-WS
    • Memory: GSkill Ripjaws 4 F4-2666, 32 or 64 GB
    • Disc of BONE: Samsung SM951 SSD, 256 GB m2
    • Extra PCIe card: card PCIe M2 Addonics ADM2X4 for
    • Media / disk cache: Samsung SM951 SSD, 512 GB m2

and continue to use the GTX970 and the current HDD on SATA 6 G ports. I would certainly like to overclock the CPU at about 4.5 GHz.

If you have still a few available budget, I would add that some Samsung 850 Pro 1 TB SSD on SATA 6 G ports for media and projects and delegate 1 TB for backup HARD drive.

That way you can later add another Addonics card when the Samsung SM951 NVMe m2 readers reach 1 TB of capacity and possibly a second GTX without running out of lane PCIe 970. If you were to go in the direction of 'cheap' with the i7 - 5820K, you would have used 16 (video) + 4 (m2), 4 (ADM2X4) = available 28 24 lanes PCIe, leaving no room for a raid controller or a second video card.

An i7 - 4790K is not an option, because it's only a 4-core, which is only marginally faster than the i7 - 930 (certainly not twice as fast, as claimed in the previous post), he is severely handicapped by only 16 available PCIe lanes used by the video card has no crack m2 on the mobo and you can reuse only 16 GB of your existing RAM except if you have sticks of 3 x 8 GB, in which case you would need one extra to get to 32 GB identical bar. 24 GB is not an option on a mobo 11xx due to the memory controller.

  • Advice needed

I developed an application for a client. The customer has the key signature. I have to pass the application (not the source code).

    1. When I build the app, I get many files of debugging. As - 1.debug. In this way the number will til l44 - - 44.debug. Why so many debug file are generated?
    2. What all do I have to pass the customer? I checked the tutorials & articles, but they all show with Eclispse/JDE or signature as well as the souce - double click on the COD file code.
    3. I have two image files included in the project and the file size of cod is 2256 KB. Is this good?

I know I must give the file cod & alx. What else should be nto give it to install the application on the device?

    Need advice, please.

    Thank you

The developer's guide tells you what you must provide when you deploy the Application.  There are three commonly used methods, OTA, push or the method of office that you are proposing.  If you look at the chapter in the developer's guide and to focus on the method of your choice, you will find that what you were expecting is sufficient:

Here is the documentation for OS 5.0, you need to read:

    http://docs.BlackBerry.com/en/developers/deliverables/11938/Packaging_and_distributing_BB_Java_appli...

When you distribute applications, you should distribute the cod signed.  Then sign them before giving them to him.

Your debug files are exactly that, used when debugging.  You so much because you have a large cod, review this forum and the developer's guide for information on cod of brother, who will explain why you have so much of.

Regarding the size, it's good for the installation of office, but not for OTA installation.  Are you sure that you need your images which would be huge?  Instead, you could scale to the desired size and include them in your application.  Which will reduce the size of your application and improve its performance.

If you're scaling the image to different sizes of screen, then just select a reasonable size, say 400 x?, then you have a size of the image and the scale should be faster.

  • Advice needed on speeding up load times.

I need some tips on how I can speed up the load time on a page of my site. This page: http://www.thinksmartresumes.com.au/%2499-designs.html

I know there are hundreds of localized factors, including the Internet, but many people have now pointed out that this page take more than 30 seconds to load. I know it's a great page with a lot of png and the links. What can I do to speed things up?

Any advice welcome outside to split the page (which are not an option). I can't read the code btw.

    Congratulations to all.

Now we need 6.2 MB to download the content and 5.8 for the images.

  • Significant improvements since Photoshop 7 for my use?

I stopped the Photoshop upgrade as soon as I reached the version 7. The simple reason is that v7 has handled all my needs very well. I use it almost every day for a variety of uses. All Web development for cleaning of scans high-resolution photographs (BW and color) and art. I use it at my full time job, so it's not really pressure of production. I'm starting to wonder if I can find a list of the new features and major improvements associated with each new version, in case I have a reason to upgrade. (The only time wherever I hit a barrier with v7 discovered that its grayscale mode has a limit on bit depth how it would handle.)

Unfortunately the Adobe News, I've seen are much too verbose. I prefer a simple table or list. Have not found one on the Web. Advice?

We are in version 14.  There are too many improvements to list simply.

Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Photoshop_version_history for a (still incomplete) list of features added to each version.

  • Advice needed - graphics card for After Effects and Premiere Pro

    Hi all

I did research of PC in the hope of making an investment in the most powerful PC, I can afford without breaking, and I need some advice.  According to my research online, it would seem that the best configuration for video editing would include an Intel i7 processor and an nVidia GeForce GTX 590 graphics card.

The problem is that each computer I see who has this combo is significantly more expensive than other computers that have an Intel i7 and GeForce GTX 570.  The best bang for my money, I found was HP - he had an Intel i7 processor but only use a GeForce GTX 550 graphics card.

You all have my question is this: how much difference do these graphics cards in terms of actual speed and reduce the working time & time in After Effects and first Pro CS5/CS5.5 rendering?  Is - what value the extra $300 - $400 to get the GTX 590?  Or who would only drop a tiny minutes rendering time / performance of the software?  In addition, could get away with high speeds and times of rendering with a GTX 550?

To give you an idea of what I use this software for: I'm working on wedding HD DSLR video, sometimes with several layers of courses on the effects and transitions; I'll work on videos ranging from a few minutes in length of more than 45 minutes in length.

I appreciate any input anyone has.  Thank you in advance and Kindest regards!

    -Michael

Beware of HP systems. In general, they are unperpowered from a perspective of power supply, they use custom PSU which can not be exchanged for something else that HP, they use custom for the power supply dimensions, so it is impossible to replace one yourself and they are anything but attractive from a perspective of RE-ENGINEERING. They are very hard to overclock or not at all and are nothing more than mediocre artists or performers.

Specifications you gave shows that he is a misconfigured system. An i7-2600 system should have 8 or 16 GB of memory, not 12 GB. It must use the 4 DIMM connectors, not 3. The power supply is low in power for this video card. Primary drive is too much for OS & programs and a complete waste of space. On a well-tuned system 150 GB is more than enough. 2 TB is not appropriate. You miss the 3rd and 4th hard drive, you will really enjoy for the performance.

In short, these specs look like a waste of money.

  • Satellite P100-307 Exchange HARD drive help/advice needed

    Hello

Thanks for your recent advice on exchanging my 200 GB HDD in to a 500 GB Sized HDD.

Can you please let me know what I should do with the new HARD disk, so that my P100 can recognize (I format etc.)? I would like the existing to the new mirrored HDD... How does go?

Sorry to bother you with this beginner Questions...

    RGDS

Windows will recognize a new hard drive (I assume that you will start the machine from cd) and it has need of formatting it will tell you. You will then need to change the format to FAT32 to NTFS - Windows Help will tell you how to...
If you are keen on the old disk to the new disk of mirror image, then I think that google some research is in order for example "mirror new portable drive ' there are older versions of disk imaging programs available for free download that will handle NTFS. to search for names include Norton Ghost and Acronis.
How do you think 'connect' the old and new readers - for example, external usb box on a network, set up two disks on a pc.
You can copy all the files using the DOS command xcopy with the selector include hidden files/folders.
Your old drive has a hidden for purposes of recovery partition and you must decide how you manage it.

MacBook Pro 15 inch, early 2011 running OS X El Capitan 10.11.1

About a week ago I started to notice a considerable following during the time delay of opening the programs, files, and even typing... everything freezes for 2-3 seconds, then I get the beachball for a few seconds to more than a minute. I used the disk utility and checked everything (not verified, no repair required). As I obviously have a problem, I made a Time Machine backup to a WD 1 TB hard drive external and downloaded EtreCheck-2... I ran it at least five times in the course of a few days and whenever he found between 20 and 109 errors and I get unable to drive! Message. If there is a chance the drive is NOT the issue, I want to help out but don't know where to start... since I was a backup Time Machine recently can I wipe the drive and reinstall? Space seems to be a problem... plan to move photos from k 8 currently on my machine to the external hard drive. Also removed apps that I don't use, but I see pieces on the EtreCheck that I can't purge (Motorola, Jaksta). Any advice would be helpful... Most recent EtreCheck shown below.

  • Advice needed on the laptop hard drive data recovery.

    Hello

I was wondering if someone could provide some advice on the recovery of data from an ACER laptop which was held in Microsoft Vista?

The laptop broke due to the 'PIN' inside the power supply's cable breaking. PC World said that it would cost hundreds of pounds to repair.

I have some important files saved on the drive hard (backup files conveniently failed too!) and I'd like back them.

What are my options? Should I seek professional IT useful to do? Or I can try to get files back myself? I currently have a Toshiba laptop that works under XP.

    Hello Chris,

I by removing the hard drive and put it in a USB enclosure. There are 2 types of one HD is IDE the other is SATA. You can buy one from Newegg.com for less than $ 15. You may need to take possession of the disc and its files if you do this. Here are the steps: to take ownership of a file or a folder how to appropriate a file you must have owner of a protected file to access. If another user has restricted access and you are the computer administrator, you can access the file to appropriate.

To take ownership of a file, follow these steps:

    1. Right click on the file that you want to take control and then click Properties.
    2. Click on the Security tab, and then click OK in the security message (if one appears).
    3. Click Advanced, and then click the owner tab.
    4. In the name list, click administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK.
The administrator or the Administrators group now owns the file.

To change the permissions on the file that you now own, follow these steps:

    1. Click on Add.

  • Defective spare battery - seller says I need to update BIOS - advice needed

    Any advice will be appreciated.

I bought a spare online battery for my laptop. Since the replacement of the battery, the PC has increased its noise level (IE more often that otherwise seems overwork), so I did a "HP Battery Check" and the result States "one or several cells don't work properly. I contacted the seller, and they say I need to update my BIOS.

I'm a little worried about it for several reasons:
    1. the software clearly indicates that the battery is not working properly.
    2. the computer and all other software works well.
    3. I have never played with before BIOS and after googling "update of the BIOS", almost all suggest "DO NOT go" unless: you know what you do / the problem is clearly a related problem of BIOS (HP State diagnostics is the battery... and shows no system other problems).

I'm ok with the replacement of hard drives, RAM etc and treat fairly confident with most software and hardware problems, but I never tried to update a BIOS... and as I need my laptop (and all software running on this subject at the moment) and do not want to go through the stress of venturing into uncharted territory on a current PC - I'm more tempted to just buy another battery from a different company and put this to a bad experience online, as the seller does not simply want for refund or Exchange (as much as the cost of replacing the battery... still!... compared to the opening of a world of problems after trying to update a BIOS which seems to work very well anyway!).

As I said, any advice would be really appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    James

PS No. knew software or hardware has been installed since the replacement of the battery

Details of the laptop: HP G70 111EA laptop, Intel Core Duo T5800 @ 2.00 GHz, 3 GB RAM, Vista Home Premium (32 bit).

If the purchased battery has been specified in the appropriate type for your computer, I see no reason why a BIOS update would make a difference. More likely, the seller hope you will turn your computer into a brick by updating the BIOS, making it a moot issue bad battery.

Before you start, I would do anything I can to put in place from an outside source if the battery is actually defective. If you do not know someone with a similar laptop, a computer store or from taking the battery might check what said you that your software. A bad cell in a battery is usually obvious by a voltage drop so that the battery either distributes the specified voltage or it is not.

If the battery is really bad, they know you ship the battery to them (signature required) and then proceed to cancel any credit card (or other method of payment online product/service) charges. While online sales generally operate at profit margins very tight, which, in itself, does not not to honour a request for an exchange of the product. Stop payment on an item usually attracts attention.
  • Advice needed centenarians and hi-res W520 or new and low resolution W530?

    Hello people!

I'd appreciate your advice and your experience to help me with my contemplation.

Im a CAD (solidworks, autocad, revit) and graphics (adobe, sony vegas) user, I need a new machine because my x200t do not support the load more...

I have a limited budget, and I have two options with the same price (of Lenovo in any case):

    A demo version of W520:

    Machine type/model: 42844 MG

    Intel Core i7-2860QM - 2.5 GHz

    2 x 4 GB 500 GB 7200 RPM

    15.6 inches (1920 x 1080 nVidia 2000M 2 GB)

    DVD - Rec

    WiF, cornflower, WWAN

RPF 9elements color sensor Cam card reader

    Windows 7 Pro 64

    New W530:

    Intel Core i7-3720QM - 4 c - 2.6 GHz

    8GB 500 GB 7200 RPM + 32 GB mSATA

    15.6 inch (1600 x 900 nVidia Quadro 1100 M)

DVD - Rec WiFi color sensor of fingerprint 4-in-1 card reader

    Backlit keyboard 9 cell cam

    Windows 7 Pro 64

I would buy something and forget the upgrade for the next 3 years...

    I'd appreciate advice.

    Kind regards

    Gili

    • Do not spend money for the color sensor. Buy a sensor of external color that you can use the laptop monitor and your internal display.
    • Why do you have 32 GB on the W530 mSATA? Go with an SSD as a single disc, or go with an SSD in the main Bay and the HARD drive in an adapter ultra bay. I don't think that the 32 GB mSATA is logical from the financial point of view as a disk cache only.
    • Do you need the cam on the on the W530, which should save money as well.

    2000M (W520) vs... K1000M (W530)

Both have 192 cores, 2 GB of Ram, bandwidth, same memory, same version of OpenGL, shader model directX version PCI-E generation FP32 and Optimus.

Differences: K1000M gives you DisplayPort 1.2 and the 2000M is only DisplayPort 1.1. TDP is less than 10W on the K1000M.

See this pdf to more details.

For graphics cards will perform more or less the same (W530 could be able to turbo graphics or more processor because of less PDT). You will benefit from the additional performance of the 3720? If so, then I'd go with the W530.

I normally recommend Win 7 Home Premium and not Pro, since they both will come with a $14.99 to Win 8 Pro upgrade. I guess you want to stay on Win 7, at least until the 8 is on SP1, if not for the life of the machine. So Win7 Pro might be good for you, if you need functionality.

You what you need to consider is: the processor in the W530 will benefit you more than the screen on the W520 and you prefer one keyboard on the other.

  • Advice needed on the installation of an operating system for my laptop

I have a laptop which has 3 hard drives, my main 'C' drive Vista pre-installed and is almost full... I want to use the other 2 hard drives, local drive "D" and "F" of the data, how can I go about it?  Am I right in thinking that I must install an operating system on them, that is for Vista, and as it has been preloaded on my laptop, how do it on the other 2 drives?  I'm not at all in computing, and any advice would be welcome, because I really need to be able to make use of all this space!  As I have Vista already installed on my main drive and a product key (no), can be installed on the other 2?

    Thank you.

If it won't let you follow the signs to extend your C: drive, contact the manufacturer of your laptop.

    See you soon.

  • Advice needed for new XPS 8700

    Hello

My old XPS 8100 bit the dust, and I am currently using an old Inspiron.

I was watching the 'Special Edition' XPS 8700 - good price and specifications, but he offers victory 8.1 with a free upgrade to win10. Other 8700 XPS comes pre-installed with Win10, but the specs are not as attractive.

I'm intimidated by the prospect, not to download and install win10 BUT what scares me, is that the drivers for the video and audio might get all screwed up in the process.

Can you give me advice about what to choose?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jane

    Hi Smiseel,

If you like the specifications for the 8700 Special Edition, buy it. You have until July to free download Windows 10 next. You don't need to worry about installing drivers, you can come back to the forum and we will help you with it.
