Size Max HDD satellite M30

Hi all

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop with a defective HARD drive, I m wondering what is the maximum size that I can put in this thing, I have a 250 GB drive, I can use, but don't know if he will be able to set the player in its actual size

On this old laptop model you can only use hard drives with IDE connector, and as Akuma have already written, there is limitation of 128 GB so I recommend you buy 100 GB IDE HARD drive and I think he will be OK for this older model laptop.

    Hello

I have a Satellite M30-304. It has a 40 GB hard drive and I would like to upgrade to 120 or 160 GB.

Could if it you please let me know the specification of compatible drive for M30 - 304?
Can what max HDD M30-304 capacity have? Detailed specifications would be useful.

    Thank you.

I doubt you could use a 160 GB HARD drive.
I recommend you to check a 120 GB IDE 2.5 "HDD.

The point is that the HARD disk controller supports the 28-bit LBA and bigger hard drives as 120 GB will not be recognized by the BIOS.

So in my opinion the 120 GB is the largest HARD drive that can be used.

  • Satellite M30-604 external usb hdd boot failure

    Hello world

Hard drive problems seem never to end for me.

I have a satellite M30-604. Recently my Hitachi HDD crashed. Now, I am trying to boot from an external hard drive via usb, but I can't.

    (a) I use a ViPower 3.5 "(model VP9258T) enclosure external usb 2.0"
    (b) with a Seagate 200 GB hard drive.
    (c) I used the recovery cd to install windows on the seagate
    (d) the bios (v1.4) seems to support the external device to start
    (e) the internal hdd crashed is deleted (it's internal hard drive space is empty)
    (f) the bios sees the drive and recognizes it as a USB

I think it should work, but when I turn on the computer, after a while, he says: "0201: failure IDE #0"
and gives me the options to run the program installation or start-up.
When I choose boot it gives me the window with "boot in safe mode" screen, 'last known good configuration' etc, but nothing of the work options (it restarts and gives the same again).

    Any ideas please?

    Hello

My research on this subject has led me to believe that it is not possible to boot an operating system of attached USB HDD XP. I read several posts on various usenet groups on this issue, and the consensus of opinion is that it is simply not possible.

Several suppliers of BIOS claim allow a USB HDD to be suitable for start-up purposes but I still have to attend such a machination succeed with XP.

  • Satellite M30 sees only 120 GB installed WD 250 GB HARD drive?

Recently my native HDD (on M30) crashed and I upgaded with Western Digital WD2500BEVE 250 GB. Disc.
But when I boot the sytem, it appears that only 120 GB is available!

Is it possible to use the laptop the full capacity of the HARD drive? Whow?

    Thank you!

    Hello

The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported due to the limitation of HARD BIOS disk size.
Easy said: BIOS don't support all hard drives.

I've read many threads here in the forum about HARD drive sizes possible max and it seems that a 120 GB of HARD drive is wide that could be used in the Satellite M30.

You ask now for an update of the BIOS. Am I wrong?

Well, unfortunately, the update of the BIOS will not improve the situation and will not use the s larger HARD drive as 120 GB :(

  • Satellite M30-841 - large hard drive not recognized

    HY guys,.

First of all, I want to say hello, because this is my first post in this forum. Merry Christmas as well!

I am writing because I bought a 160 GB 2hard disk to replace my old 60 GB. When I troed to install it, I saw that it recognizes just 128 GB which, according to my research, is due to the LBA 48 bit not supported on my laptop (Satellite M30-841).

    I tried to everythingmentioned:
-J' have flash Bios o update the 1.70 (last available driver toshiba Web site)
-J' changed the downloaded XP SP3 and I changed the registry to install a key DWORD EnableBigLba.

However, she still recognizes only 128 GB. I'm losing hope to install the new hard drive. Anyone of you has a suggestion that I should try?

I realized that I should update the driver of my motherboard, but I don't know where they are, if there is (I don't even know the name of it, despite the use of everest - which shows DMI.

    Am I missing something?

    Thank you very much

    Icemaster

    Look, man.
The HARD disk controller seems to support the 28-bit LBA.
The disk controllers HARD supporting the 28-bit LBA address max 128 GB HDD.
Controllers HDD support 48-bit LBA address bigger hard drives.
But this is a physical limitation and you will not resolve this update anything.

In your case, there is nothing to see

  • Satellite M30, partitioning

After that I got some error messages and viruses so I had to format my laptop the Satellite M30.
I used the recovery CD Toshiba 2 and the only option for me was Option 1 Option 2 is reserved for specialists, and I'm not familiar with all the terms it. In any case, the formatting not only formatait the C:\ but D:\ thus merged the formerly 2 x 30 GB in a single C:\ partition, I had no option to stop this.
How can I split my C:\ drive again into 2 partitions of the same size?

Sorry, but the only way with the delivered software on a M30 to create partitions is the expert mode.
    As far as I know.

    But I have a proposal.

Tomorrow I'll do a recovery on my M30 will inform you as soon as possible.

  • Upgrade CPU on Satellite M30 106

    Hi people

    Could with help please?

Just got an old Toshiba Satellite M30-106, a few weeks ago and [to be fair] it works OK with xp on it. I bought another 2 gig DDR which brings speed wise difference, but I can move the processor to the Intel® Pentium® M processor 725 1.60 GHz FSB: 400 MHz, 2: 2 MB level cache that s in there earlier?

Can she take a CPU more high if so what s the highest? Would be very graciously tips please.

    Thanks in advance...

At first, I must say that I agree with you that this laptop will work with Windows XP Home edition. At least this laptop model is designed for Windows XP Home edition. ;)

I found some info on the processors on Satellite M30:
+ The Satellite M30 computer is equipped with a processor Intel Banias who +.
    + integrates mathematical co-processor, memory 64 KB of L1 cache and a 1 MB L2 cache.
+ memory. The processor works with one of the following speeds: +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.40 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.50 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.60 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.70 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.

Then maybe you can use the fastest processor 1.70 GHz. I don't think you'll see the difference.
Best thing you can do is upgrade RAM to max and optimize Windows XP Home pre-installed, and you will be happy with this good old classic.

  • CPU frequency and bus on Satellite M30 is too low

    Hello

The processor and my Satellite M30 bus seems to be significantly under speed. According to Windows XP Pro and Solaris Nevada, the processor is clocked at 600 MHz. The frequency of the BIOS, scaling parameter is set to "Still high", and I tried to disable ACPI in the operating system (ensuring no interference on the software side), without result. Power in the Toshiba Power Saver settings are all maxed out, so no scaling should be there either. Intel Processor Identification Utility reports the following:

    Reported expected
    Speed: 1.60 GHz GHz 0.44
System bus: 400 MHz 294 MHz

Note that the tool uses algorithms to determine the speed, rather than trusting the value returned by the operating system, that one of her aims purposes is testing for fraudulenty CPU overclocked by OEMs. The speed as it is for me is even more disappointing. I don't know how long it has been like that, but one thing to note is that the motherboard has been replaced last summer.

Someone has an idea what here? Thank you.

Edit: I also loaded the CPU with CPU-Burn to see if some heavy loads would get understandingly frequency. It has no effect.

    Hello

If you use the advanced search option, you will find a few similar topics with the explanation very clear why unit works with 600 MHz only.

In any case, after the replacement motherboard service must blink mainboard firmware. After doing this it will work at full speed. Because of this, I guess they forgot to do.

It is not a big problem. Please contact again and explain the situation.

  • Re: update by Satellite M30 and RAM

Satellite M30 - 4 years old - slower than a glacier. Sometimes said "low virtual memory". If increasing RAM help? Currently still got 256MB.

  • How to change the cooler on Satellite M30-344?

    Hello

IA´m lucky enough with my Satellite M30 - 344, but 2 months the cooler starts to become stronger every day. Is it possible to change the cooler on mine and how expansive is the original cooler? Do you know anything as a tutorial for the change process?

Originally from 2 256 parts MB of Ram is installed. Now ia´m think about a bigger total RAM. As far I know are only 2 slots for RAM, or I'm wrong. Is it possible to install two 1 GB RAM pieces?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello

The replacement of internal devices is not easy and a little risky.
I wouldn't recommend replacing the cooling module yourself.
You might damage it something on the map and as you know the motherboard is costly parts of the laptop. The manuals are not published because these documents are only for technicians and service partners.
So I think you should ask a service partner to help him because these guys have more experience in these procedures.

I found a site online with the memory modules for Satellite M30 344
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=6958&ft=m&St=3

It is said that it of possible to upgrade memory to 2 GB max. That's why I think that it of possible to use module 2 x 1024 MB.

  • Success story on the installation of hard drive of 160 GB to a Satellite M30 106

    Hello

I upgraded my Satellite M30-106 with a 160 GB HDD and it works brilliantly. The hard drive I bought is disc Hitachi 5 K 160 PMR - my only worry was bios (someone suggested he can not see) but it went smooth. I have no worry about power because the new takes less energy (it runs faster however). I have not noticed any hitch or any strange behaviour and I admit to more than a month now and it has been widely used.

    Best regards
    Swarvek

PS. Sorry to start a new thread, but man, it has been locked.
PS2. I also brought up my memory some time ago to 1 GB - kingston value ram has been around - this laptop doesn't seem to be too fussy about memory.

Man, it's good, because one of my friends was about to publish a thread about upgrading its M30 because he didn t know if a disk over big then 100 Gig will go into his machine.

Well, I must say thank you for your experience posted here. :)

    Have a nice weekend

  • Satellite M30: Replace DVD with additional HARD disk?

    Hello!

As my Satellite M30-642 does not offer a modular Bay for the installed switches and I have a DVD burner for USB that I can use I think try an experiment: withdrawal of the DVD drive and replace it with an extra HDD/SSD.

As SSDS are very light, have no moving parts and does not necessarily need screws to be installed and the slot DVD brings the IDE and this could work to power connector. The DSS must be placed inside an old and updated the slimline cd-rom so that the change is not visible and the laptop is safe from dust etc.

Has anyone tried something like this before? Are there solutions to buy for Sat M30 (2004 vintage)?

    Cheers, obreitfelder

    Hello

As far as I know the Sat M30 doesn t support the slim select Bay and, therefore you cannot use this adapter instead of the CD/DVD drive.

    Sorry, it is not possible

  • Satellite M30 - user not allowed to update the BIOS

I have a Satellite M30 (204, according to me, model 60 GB 1.6 GHz) and I try to update the BIOS but get the error message the "the user is not allowed to update the bios. The reason why I'm trying to update it is I just bought a 250 GB hard drive, but the BIOS does recognize that 128 GB and I guess the most up-to-date BIOS will allow the drives of this size, although I have not found any documentation for precise to say so be it.

Someone at - it a patch to update the BIOS (I don't think I have a usb floppy drive drive anywhere) or to access the full capacity in other ways? Thank you.

    Ainsworth

    Hello

could you please tell me what operating system you´re to help? I guess that Windows Xp...

Usually, the update of the BIOS routine has absolutely NOTHING to do with the capacity of your hard disk drive. You are working with a limited user account? If not, I suggest right clicking on the BIOS update file and choose the option "Run as..". Subsequently a windows pop up and you ask under which user you want to run this program. Click on the "Next user" radio button and choose the administrator. If you have a password for your admin account and then type in, otherwise it should start automatically.

    Welcome them

  • The display of videos in 16:10 Format on Satellite M30

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite M30 with a 16:10 display but all videos are only displayed in 4:3 format.
Is it possible to play videos in 16:10 format and remove these black lines on the left and the right of the screen?

    Thanks in advance,

    Pizikata

    Hello

Have you checked the properties of the graphics card?
As far as I know on some M30 with a Geforce Go5x00 you can change the mode options full screen in the overlay controls
Also, check if a screen mode option is available on your DVD player application.
However, if you find any options then I think that it is not possible to change the size of display in 16:10 format.

  • High temperature CPU on Satellite M30

    Hello

I have a Satellite M30 852 with Pentium M 1.5 GHz processor. My problem is that the heater does not start until the CPU temperature reached 70 degrees, which I think is a bit high, no mention that when it has reached this temperature I can not keep the laptop on my legs because it burns... and also to kind of warm around the touchpad and left side of the keyboard.

My question is if there is any software I can use to take the cooler start at low temperatures, to keep, or if there is no setting I can adjust the laptop utilities to solve this problem (in addition to throttle CPU cooling where is defined in the performance).

    Thank you all in advance!

Could PS: Anyone tell me which button support when starting, to get into the BIOS...? Because the F1, esc or del does not work.

Post edited by: master of ceremonies

    Hello

The temperature of 70 ° C nothing unusual and in my opinion not too high.
Is that it s not recommended to use the laptop on your legs or in bet, etc.
You should always be sure that there is enough free space (left, right, bottom) around the laptop for the circulation of fresh air!

Usually, the Toshiba power saver controls the cooling method and the CPU processing speed. If you want to change some settings you should the fact in the basic power saver menu.

PS: on m30 the phoenix BIOS has been installed and therefore, you should use the F2 key.
