If it was my preference, I remove completely 8.1 Windows on my laptop and just use Fedora 22 all the time but my company uses Skype for business quite frequently for instant messagaing web conferencing, screen sharing and it's what keeps me back to install Fedora 22 because I have yet to find the Skype for Linux Business Customer.

  For those of you interested, I just finished filling out an exhaustive search and found Wync. Found here (and Yes, it's a valid URL).

  I tried in my virtual machine to Fedora 22 and it seems to really work, screen sharing, video calling and all.

  -Remove Uc.DLL and copied on a system that works. Re-registered the DLL.

  -Repair and reinstall have both been done.

  -Reinstall would cause errors, forced to use MS Fixit Uninstaller.

  -AppData / Application files have been removed after uninstallation and before reinstalling.

  -Windows is up to date

  -Ran sfc/scannow - produced CBS.log (attached)

  Found an answer: forget skype.com and install instead of the Canonical partner repository. I thought I tried that before and ended up with a version that didn't work at all, but it seems fine now.

  I solved the problem.

  Here's what I did:

  1 - right click on your SKype for the professional user who is OFFLINE

  2. choose REMOVE

  3 - ADD their new

  4 - bingo. You can see them online and you can discuss everything as before!

  I just got a new laptop which uses windows 8. I downloaded the Skype for desktop PC (because I really don't like it). I can sign in very well, see my contacts, etc., but I can't send or receive messages.

I'm a (paying) happy user of Skype for the past 7 years, and it is pretty central to my work as a tester of computer software. I noticed the new behavior very recently where Skype just stop with any kind of message that I saw, and if I do not realize and restart the application, the people I work with who just thinks I'm offline.   Even if you are not actively using the preview application, its context process, SkypeHost.exe, runs in the background and may periodically close the Skype desktop.
