Slow network performance

Hello. Since version 6.4.0 I have very slow write speed. Now I launch last 6.4.2 RC1 and I have the same problems. My antivirus is disabled because I bought my readynas. While I can copy ReadyNAS with speed 20-30mbps under gigabit lan when I try to write something via lan I get 5-7mbps speed. Is there a solution? I must say that before 6.4.0 version I've had close read and 70mbps write speeds!

Try without regrouping and see if the behavior changes.

  • Very slow network performance

I have a Dell T610 running ESXi 4 with a pair of built in maps network gigabit Broadcom BCM 5709, to which I've also added a gigabit dual port Intel 82576 NIC they are all plug a Cisco 3560 24 ports switch. There are a couple of virtual machines on this computer and there was near zero, a network, or activity of the CPU during the following tests as they were made during off-peak hours.

I noticed a few updates takes a long time to download and, after completed and restarting the virtual machines, I decided to perform a speed test that indicates the very slow network performance. But the performance is slower on one NETWORK card to another. Reduce the ports available to virtual machines on a single NETWORK card, that's what I got.

Using Speedtest.net as a gauge running on a dedicated XP Guest:

The Broadcom and Intel befriended 5Mbps showed and sometimes 10 Mbps.

Only Broadcom showed between 13-18Mbps from one trial to another.

Intel showed only 4-5 Mbps. never more than 5 Mbps!

Physical work stations connected to the same switch showed 45Mbps repeatedly!

All ports were originally configured as auto negotiate. I tried locking time ESXi and the Cisco switch to 1 GB Full duplex with no significant difference in the overall performance.

Has anyone seen this? Have you found a solution?

I got a similar promblem - found that the VM - NIC has been set at the 'flexible' type and VM-Ware tools were not properly installed.

As I was not able to install (linux, no gcc), I've removed the NETWORK card and put in again as an adapter 'e1000 '. From here, I had transferrates as expected ;-)

    I hope this helps...

  • Workstation 9 - slow network performance between the host and guest

I am running windows 8 on the host and installed by 9 trial. Then installed windows 8.1 as a comment system.

I'm a slow, very slow network between the two.

If I send files to and from the computer with another guest, transfers are normal, but if I try the same files between the host and the guest, they are really slow.

    I use a bridge connection.

I read elseware to disable the following on the guest card:

    Large Send Offload v2 (IPv6)

    But that did not help.

    Thoughts?

Maybe then try Hyper-v, it help you better.

  • ThinApped Firefox 11 slow network performance

    Hi all

We have thinapped firefox 11 with thinapp version 4.7. However, we have serious network performance problems when using firefox. In the thinapp firefox on speedtest.net, we get 1000ms ping ~10mb/s download and 3 MB/s in upload.

On the native IE9, we get 100 ms ping ~95mb/s 39 MB/s in upload and download.

At first I thought it was a sandbox problem, as we have our sandbox in %APPDATA%\microsoft\windows\sendto that is redirected to a network drive. I changed this option to use the current directory of the thinapp, but this made no difference. I also tried to add the "DisableRegistryTransaction = 1" option, but it also made no difference.

The ThinApp was captured on a clean XP VM and I test it on our version of W7. I tried this on our XP build legacy and receive the same results.

Does anyone else have this problem? And are there any suggestions? For the moment, we are looking to put firefox in our basic build or delivery through SCCM.

  • x 220 slow network performance

I have a x 220 windows 7 32 bit and with cable and wireless I get extremely slow performance. The chip is an Intel 81579LM and copy files over the network via the cable network for example I get only 800 Kbps. If I plug my desktop PC into the same switch I get something much faster. So the problem is definitely on the 220 x. I tried various driver updates, but nothing seems to fix. I ran perfmon and CPU and disk read/write queues are not a problem. Where should I go from here?

    .

You use the same Ethernet cable between the device and the same port on the switch for the two tests?

If this is not the case, try to do the test with the help of two Ethernet cables between the devices and the same port of the switch... This would pretty quickly sort if you have an Ethernet wiring related issue - it's pretty common root cause of the problem you describe.

  • In ESXi 5 very slow network performance

We have recently updated one of our servers to ESXi 4.1 to 5. It's a Dell PowerEdge T300 with 24 GB of RAM. It used to run very fast, but after the network upgrade is very slow. We have another server that is still running ESXi 4.1 which runs very fast.

I noticed the slowness of the network in Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 systems. When I copy a file from the ESXi 5 hosted VM to a physical machine on our network, I get between 2 to 4 Mbps. When I copy the ESXi 4.1 hosted VMS on the same physical machine, I get 80Mbps.

I tried to disable TCP unloading on the physical machine and virtual (and both) computers with no improvement.

I also performed a capture of the WireShark packages on one of the virtual machines Win 7. I noticed one interesting thing is that there was a lot of duplicate ACK packets when you transfer a file on SMB. I didn't know where to go to from there.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Check the BIOS of the server ESXI 5 and see if this physical NETWORK card sharing resource IRQ with another device and change it if it is.

I created a half-dozen VMs with VMware Tools installed, a certain Win XP, Win2003 Server.  Access to the network between the virtual machines is ok (270Mbits/s), but access to external guests is very slow (2.5Mbits / s).  Here's the output of iperf, first between two virtual machines (tnealxpvm and rptkerbtest1), and then between a virtual machine and an external host (tnealxp03).  I guess the network access VM-on-VM is probably in memory and touch even the network hardware?

    Hello

No reason to hardcode them guests at 100 Mbps.  Configure your guests to autodetect speed connection and duplex.  It's ok if your report speed/duplex of link guests that are different from your physical network.

Try to configure your NIC Host (ESX) autodetect. Check that they autodetect to 100/Full.  Some older switches have problems with autodetecting link speed/duplex, but I prefer to configure NIC gear to detect automatically if possible.

  • v machines are very fast, but so slow network. Advice appreciated...

    Hi all

    I recently installed VMware ESXi 3.5 U3, 123629

Before getting into the details about the problem I'll give you the specifications that you may want to know

    Motherboard: Supermicro X7DB8

    Processor: 2 x intel LGA771 dual core XEON 3 .2GHz

    Memory: 4 GB

Storage: Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI RAID card 2020ZCR with 6 32 GB drives in a RAID 5 Configuration configuration

Network: network FULL DUPLEX 4 x 1000 MB connections (a 80003ES2LAN Ethernet controller built on the motherboard AND a 8254NXX, add in the card installed)

Everything about the installation was quick and easy. I currently have 3 virtual machines installed.

computers virtual boot very quickly. pretty much everything on ESXi performance is exceptional. In the console windows pop up when you click them in the start menu as if they were physical boxes.

    BUT

the one caveat is the network performance...

I searched these forums looking for answers but have not found anything that solved the problem.

Here is what I tried, from advice in this forum...

I have enabled HyperThreading in the VI Client and disabled HyperThreading in the BIOS

I've disabled HyperThreading in the VI Client and disabled HyperThreading in the BIOS

and I went through VMwareWolf guide as well...

When copying to or from a simple windows sharing, I can get about 5 MB a dry... that is terrible, if you consider my network hardware...

I get the slightly better performance (about 6 MB/sec) if I enable HT in the BIOS and disable in VIClient (this is what its currently set to).

During a copy operation, I saw my use of the material and on the tops of the cpu around 10%, so I don't think that its associated processor. Machines start and loading programs instantly so I doubt his performance of hard drive no more.

Before moving to ESXi I was running VMware server 2.0 on windows server 2003 R2 and the performance of the network was very fast... so I am sure, is a driver/configuration problem

    Any help/Suggestions is appreciated

Hi, I'm running into a similar problem regarding slow speed, but I've seen it happen when I copy things locally, what caught my attention, is that you get the slow speeds when the copy of a VM on another virtual computer on the same host, as someone that should not leave the vSwitch. Pls try to copy the same file from one folder to another on the same drive and tell me how fast are you...

    Thank you!

  • Slow network

    Just a general question...

Sometimes, I noticed that our server files on the network of our company is extremely slow sometimes. How do you guys go about programming for speeds of slow network on your internal network and the occasional usage over the WAN?

First, the express screws are usually very inefficient. I would use the ex file directly. Secondly, it seems that you write to the file in the same spot (part of your code) you do your job. As I mentioned above, you need to separate the file of transformation in its own task. In LabVIEW, this will be a parallel to the main loop loop. Transmit the data to be logged on to the task of logging via a queue. You can find examples for the use of the files and the use of queues in the examples of the expedition. You can also look at the examples of the architecture of producer/consumer. What I am proposing is essentially a producer/consumer build. It would also be useful in the future if you include the code you are having trouble with. It is easier to give advice when we can comment directly on your code, rather than just giving generic answers.

  • HP250 G1: slow network,... and more often fails

OK,... it's the daughter, my cell phone... and it has been dragging for many months as its network performance sucks!... When I try... It seems to work correctly.

However... I've started using it myself to Antoinette this weekend, and yes she is right it sucks... Sorry (Dear daugther).

I did in so many of the modules are up-to-date, including the BIOS,... but all update is a problem "chicken and egg", as the network fails usually... I managed to get win 8.1 and recently updated in a large download loading to another portable PC, transfer of pen USB... and the loading on the spot... all seem to date, network... drivers and the problem is present on cable and wired and wireless connections.

I'm not absolutely sure... (and I'm more than happy to be corrected,.) . but the problem seems almost be associated DNS... failure to access the web site... I can ping my local router... and even ping to an external address from across the globe and get an answer in less than 50 ms... While access to ebay.co.uk or BBC fails and times out...

I disabled the LAN IPv6 implementation... Although when I loaded the new BIOS... I don't no the default BIOS... Should I do this or is it done by default...

I tried a reset DNS... This improvement in things temporarily, but response timeout and sligish is back... the command I used was

    > netsh winsock reset

Someone at - it patch long term...

What happens when you connect to one another source other than your router wifi?

Have you tried to use different DNS servers in the router?  Google or OpenDNS maybe?

  • E3000 slow network

    Hey all,.

I just upgraded to an E3000 to a WRT54G and I'm having some trouble with the speed of the network.

I have no special settings and even tried to restore the default settings and upgrade to the latest firmware, nothing done.

Time, I notice that the biggest success is when transferring files locally on the network (WiFi and LAN).

Let me see that I don't know the difference between MB/s & Mb/s and other...

I have Comcast 20 MB/s down, 1.5 MB/s up (just an info, the main issue is transfer the)

With the default settings, my laptop (ASUS N82JQ, Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter), connects to the router to only 65 MB/s (with full signal).

Download seems to be more decent ~600KB/s (file transfer wireless-n laptop desktop gigabit).

Download seems to be limited to ~150KB/s (copy of files from the wired desktop to the portable wireless n gigabit).

These speeds are horrible! ~ 5 hours of 3GB of data transfer!

One of my laptops had a card that has been able to the 2.4 & 5 Ghz and I was previously receiving ~2000-5000KB/s transfers (2-5 MB/s) with this router (but I had to do a system restore on it and reset the router). My ASUS laptop seems to work only with 2.4 Ghz however. If I change the 2.4Gh the wireless settings of the router to "Auto (20 MHz or 40 MHz)" the laptop connects at 150 MB/s, but the speeds are the same slow as speeds above.

    Desperately need help.

    Dave

OMG... I found an answer, when I was reading this thread:

    http://www.ads-links.com/index.php/how-to-fix-Windows-Vista-slow-network-transfer.html

I had already eliminated the possibilities of the Antivirus/Firewall... But still had the problem.
I saw the post of "alex on September 4, 2007" talk to disable IPv6 and QoS on the properties of the adapter...

I tried turning off on my connection LAN Gigabit and Whoosh! I'm ~54MB/s! Much, much, much better than 150 KB/s.

I turned QoS on the LAN adapter and I always get good speeds... So, that tells me there is something to do with IPv6 between the router and the computers that something is not love.

I have yet to reset the settings of my WiFi (I did a firmware update and factory default), but it is expected... I will report my findings!

Edit: Disabled IPv6 on the adapter wireless and re-tested... and guess what 9 + MB/s! YES!

So, the next question is, why don't the router plays well with computers that have IPv6 installed/activated?

  • Hyper-V slow network

Dell PowerEdge T420, Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V installed and one configuration of virtual machine 2008 R2 in the Hyper-V environment. Two network cards on the T420 are connected to the same Gigabit switch, one for the use of the physical machine and the other for the virtual network.

The only thing that is made in the virtual machine of desktop Services remotely, then end users into running a program of medical records that accesses a database on completely separate server. The physical server just Hyper-V, a domain controller and DNS.

With no activity, ping'ing the prompt of the physical machine or vice versa or a separate database of the guest PC server, we have less than 1 ms response time. However, if there is no activity in the guest OS, ping times vary drastically - between 1 and ms 200 ms.

I have different power cuts disabled virtual network adapters properties, but this does not seem to make a difference. Looking at the monitor of resources on the VMS, there is generally less than 5% of the CPU and 10 percent of the memory used, and the network traffic when the application is running is less than 100 Kbps (usually less than 50 Kbps).

On the physical server, the CPU traffic & network are basically the same as the virtual machine, with 80 percent of the memory used (since it is all attributed to Hyper-V).

Any thoughts on how to solve the slow networking?

    Thanks in advance!

The solution to the problem is revealed to be...

Broadcom NICs in Dell servers have a "Tails of Virtual Machine" which is by default enabled setting. Once disabled, the guest operating system has the same network as the physical machine speed.

  • Only the Server 2008 machines, poor network performance

The environment contains 2 x IBM x 3650 servers. The virtual machines that all have two 8 GB of RAM and 4 vCPUs allocated. ESXi 5.1 build 1065491

The network consists of about 40 machines Windows 7 (physical) and 2 servers (ESXi VMs) who are Server 2008 Std ed (one is a SBS 2008 but they are the same "under the hood"). The network is a gigabit w / D-Link switches. It started with me investigating slow network speeds.

I use iperf to nail down what is happening. It appears when a Win 7 machine is writing data to SMB in 2008 virtual machine, it works fine. But when the W 2008 Server VM tries to write data to SMB in the Win 7 (physical or virtual) machine, I got hurt. Difficulty is the very sporadic network speed jumps between 1 MB/s to 60 MB/s. On average, I'd be lucky to hit 20 to 30 Mbps which isn't even 50% of the gigabit network util.

At first I thought that the problem may be with the ESXi config so I gave a whole new Windows 7 VM on the same hypervisor which houses the two 2008 VMs server and re-ran the test - when I run a test of my workstation (physical) to the VM 7 Win, it works very well (90 to 100 MB/s both ways). If - Win 7 seems to be good, but both the VM Server 2008 I've got exposed the slow download issue.

So far, I did the following on Server 2008 VMs:

    • Replace the E1000 w / VMXNET3 NIC
    • Dissolved the 802.3ad aggregation of links to the ESXi servers
    • Make sure that energy saving is off
    • Disable Offload TCP segmentation
    • Uninstalled the AV in case the problem was some kind of antivirus real-time analysis
    • Place the virtual machine on the other x 3650 - the question of speed follows the virtual machine.

I can't think what to try next. Any advice or ideas welcome.

Here are the results of a test my W7 desktop for Server 2008 VM: http://pastebin.com/dGZKwxAr

Now the same test of my W7 desktop to and a W7 VM on the same ESXi host: http://pastebin.com/fugjCvjx

I did an upgrade on the spot of one of the virtual machines 2008 2008 R2 server and it solved the problem. I'm getting 100 + Mbps in both directions of Win 7 clients now. I think I'll do the same thing to the other server.

  • AT200 - slow network after update 4.0.3

    Hi all

Since the last update 4.0.3 my Wifi network is very slow.
    Hard Reset solves the problem.

I try Fixer Wifi from the Android Market application, is better but reseting Wiff network every 5 minutes.

It seems that the problem is also known on other hardware platforms.

    Anyone have a solution?

    Thank you.

    Stcren

What I've read on other platforms was mainly either a factory reset or forget/remove the Wifi configuration and returning it. Like you did a hard reset should not be more useful.

Have you checked your WiFi connection also with other access-points/routers?

    My basic proposals:

    (a) improve the performance of your router in the 2, 4 GHz. Then search for channels already occupied (from routers in the neighborhood) and move to a free channel in the configuration of the router.

    (b) If you have some basics of TCP/IP networks and then manually set your IP address in the Tablet Wifi-settings. This should at least speed up the reconnection (required DHCP negotiations) and maybe keep the connections don't break as the local ip address does not change.

  • Network performance issues

    Hi guys,.

I'm currently experimenting with ESXi. My goal is to set up a virtual private network, I can connect to. Inside the VPN, I have access to multiple virtual machines of Windows. I want access to the ESXi server as well as to manage virtual machines (reset them, create snapshots etc.). The VPN must be hosted by a Linux VM.

That's why I set up the following:

I have 2 vSwitches. vSwitch0 (192.168.0.0/24) has an uplink to my local network to be accessible from the outside. A VMKernel (192.168.0.110) port has been added as well, so I can manage the ESXi from the local network. vSwitch1 (10.0.0.0/24) however is not an uplink but only the VMKernel (10.0.0.1) port.

Next step was implementation of the Linux VM. VM Linux has 2 network cards, connected to (192.160.0.120) vSwitch0 and vSwitch1 (10.0.0.10). The Linux VM hosts an OpenVPN in Bridge mode so everyone who connects has net access to the 10.0.0.0/24.

Next, I added a virtual Windows machine. The virtual Windows machine has only one card NETWORK, connected to vSwitch1 (10.0.0.100).

I now have the following problems:

Performance when you access the VMKernel go in the VPN are horrible! A connection can be established. I can do anything but wait times are very common and all is horribly slow. Not so when you access the virtual Windows oder Linux VM computer through VPN but. The connection is stable and the performance is good. So I don't think that the VPN is the reason.

When he creates a virtual computer and installation of an OS with an ISO can be found on my PC customer within the local network, the installation takes a long time to complete. Access to the ISO standard is horribly slow. Is this normal? Is it possible to implement an ISO on the ESXi Server storage as in Xen?

Maybe someone has an idea what goes wrong or maybe my network configuration is completely false. Looking forward to your comment guys .

    Its a bug in Vsphere,

Give your linux VM instead of the vmxnet network adapter e1000 nic, and your problem will be gone.
