Slow plu IMac
Hi, all: I have an iMac that is no spring chicken, but he has a lot of memory and I recently upgraded the OS to OSX 10.7.5. I made an EtreCheck to see why it is slow and would appreciate any help you can give me on what said EtreCheck. I'm no expert, but follow most instructions. Thanks in advance.

Help with a beach running slow filled iMac ball
Hello
We have problems with our iMac, like below. If anyone has any inside. There is plenty of space on the hard drive and I have just run Cocktail to maintain and made sure the operating system is up-to-date.
We often live very slow behavior in task such as launch of mail, safari or anything else besides and sometimes even just type text in boxes. It is also very slow at startup and shutdown.
Any help much appreciated. I hope it's useful to include the report of EtreCheck below.
Best regards

All software maintenance is in fact slow down your Mac. The only maintenance that has need for a Mac is back up. Remove any object to maintain, by asking directions.
Also, your M-Audio drivers are listed as obsolete in Yosemite. This means that any M-Audio Midi device to update driver to be useful in El Capitan.

I have a new iMac 27 inch Retina 5 K (end of 2015) 3.2 GHz with 32 GB of RAM and bridge is now used in the region of 20-25 GB + of it on a regular basis. My previous iMac 24 inch (end of 2009), with 'only' 8 GB of RAM, ran faster and the RAM usage was less than 45%. While Bridge works very slowly - much slower than my old iMac - and I can't work out why.
I compacted and emptied the cache, reduced the number of images in each folder and reduced the size of the preview, but nothing seems to make any difference. I forgot something or are my expectations too high? The bridge is my main tool with Camera RAW/Photoshop before importing all the files in Lightroom and speed reduction is initially serious workflow problems.
Someone a suggestions please?

VMWare Fusion 6 extremely slow on iMac i5 / Yosemite
Hello
I can't with VMWare Fusion 6 running on my iMac i5.
I recently did a complete reinstallation of the operating system, and it works now a soft Yosemite with VMWare Fusion 6.0.5.
When you run a freshly installed Windows 8.1 image (basically doing nothing, with no extra apps running) I
see the following topics:
* vmware-vmx process is constantly around 100% (top)
* Computer becomes very slow, there is a considerable delay even to type the text in TextEdit.
* When I turn off VMWare Fusion, the computer returns to normal.
(This problem is not new to Yosemite. I had the same problem on the Mavericks and Mountain Lion, and I had
in light of all the comments up on VMWare running on the computer, but I had hoped that a complete reinstall might help things)
Computer data:
Mid-2011 iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (1 GB set to the virtual machine, as suggested by VMWare)
Drive of fusion (256 ssd + 2 TB)
Is that what I can do to study?

Hello. First time poster. I use Mac Laptops since 2008 and have been super happy with them. Got my first office in April, but didn't really use it until about 2 months ago (perform a certain work of photoshop and illustrator). I was immediately surprised by the slow the iMac running right from the start. I kept hope he would run faster, but it didn't, and it's so frustrating. Basically, I get the color wheel when I'm trying to do. Almost every command takes much longer it would take on my laptop more old. I can't imagine that this is normal. I have applecare, but I didn't drag my 3 grandsons and the iMac to the store just to have to tell me, it's good. Following the suggestion of another post, I saw, I did etrecheck and he said that the performance was good (I did not understand the rest of the report). Any advice?
Hi tinyhouse, can you please share the EtreCheck report with us?

very slow Powerbook fine, iMacs
My family uses 2 iMacs (1 2013, 1 earlier) and an Apple Powerbook at home. 2 iMac is incredibly slow, but the speed of the Powerbook is fine. IMacs both have a lot of unused storage and memory and I completely restored two iMacs and deleted unnecessary files, but they are very slow. I have everything back up on Dropbox and wonder now if the slowness is something to do with the combination of the signal at high speed and by using several connections of Dropbox in the House. We have a Virgin Media Hub Super 2ac with advertised broadband router of up to 150 Mbps. I made a speed control using www.speedtest.com and the download speed is 105.81 Mbps and download speed is 9.70 Mbps. Any ideas anyone?
You can view a report of etrecheck for later analysis
www.etrecheck.com
but I would like to disable and remove dropbox to test the system and if they improve the problem there.

iMac 2010 slower that a turtle stuck in the mud after having swallowed the glue
Since upgrading to OS X El Capitan (from factory 10.6 Snow Leopard), my poor iMac have been incredibly slow. To the point where eventually it still would not start.
Since I have everything of importance on an external hard drive, I just went ahead and started from the install disc, go for a clean install.
It took several attempts for the system to boot from disk (starting with C) before finally reading the disk and load the language selection screen. It took almost three days to go through the own installation process. And I mean everyday! Each step takes several hours. I had two beds in this horrible process!
Finally, I registered and through on the desktop. How he was always slow that I felt a stop down was in order. I left for the day. I just go back and press the power button and watched the gray screen with spinner logo and daisy apple during the last 30 minutes.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be. I appreciate, it's a six year old machine, but my experience with Apple computers over the past 15 years has been such that I don't expect to die after only six years.
My guess is that it is a problem of hard disk of a certain type? But if someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be happy.
Thanks in advance.
It should of course not take three days to install OS X, even if the Mac is a former model. My 2011 mini ran Mac OS X El Capitan (and currently macOS tracks Sierra) very well, and it has the lowest overall performance compared to an iMac of 2010.
It took several attempts for the system to boot from the disk (starting with C)
El Capitan is not installed on a drive, if you are saying you reinstalled Snow Leopard first? That is what is running slowly or not at all?
Here are a few things to try...
Because you have previously installed El Capitan, depending on how you launched the "clean install", its partition Recovery HD hidden is maybe still there internal hard disk. Press command-R to start. Here's more information
On OS X Recovery - Apple Support
Alternatively, you can start with the Option key to display the Boot Manager screen, which gives you the choice of available startup disk. See if Recovery HD is an available choice.
If you can start ("Recovery") as described in the linked document, run disk utility and Erase the internal disk volume. Then reinstall OS X. This gives you El Capitan directly, instead of first Snow Leopard install.
If the internal drive is actually defective, and you have an external USB drive that can be erased, you can (temporarily) install the OS on this external drive. You should unplug your drive with the user data (if not already done), to avoid accidentally erasing. You can do this installation of the recovery screen (if you are able to start up the Recovery HD). If not, you need to install Snow Leopard, first (if everything goes much faster than three days). Whatever it is, run disk utility (from the menu bar if you have reinstalled Snow Leopard). Select the external target drive in utility box disc and Erase completely. Then install OS X on this external drive.
After installation and reboot, you can reconnect to another external drive with user data and use this way until you replace the internal drive. If you have installed Snow Leopard, he move to El Capitan, using the normal procedure.

iMac mid2014 work much slower after upgrade of sierra
After the sierra updated imac start and stop many more slowly, also after starting all work extremely slow even the menu open after right click of mouse!
Difficult Installation of OS X
Try each of them in order. A test to see if the computer works properly:
- Reset the PRAM
- Reset the controller (SMC) system management
- Start the computer in Safe Mode, and then restart normally. It's slower than a standard home.
- Repair the disk by booting to the HD recovery immediately after that the chime press the command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears. Choose disk utility and click on the continue button. Select the withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) volume entry in the list to one side. Click first aid button in the toolbar. Wait the fact button appear. Disk utility and return in the Utility Menu. Restart the computer from the Apple Menu.
- Reinstall OS X by booting from the Recovery HD using the command and R keys. When the Utility Menu appears, select reinstall OS X and then click on the continue button.
-
After you download the new operating system i.e. sierra, my iMac has slowed down considerably. It takes a lot of time to open applications.
If it's just after the upgrade, it can be busy all indexing. Give him a couple of hours.
If it is still slow execution Etrecheck and post the report here.

Etrecheck results, slow iMac
My computer is slow, and after having poking around, I see that Etrecheck could help diagnose the problem. I ran the program but I don't know what mean results. I hope that someone more experienced will know how to interpret and direct me in the right direction. I also ran the Apple Hardware Test and came with a very clear.
I am concerned about MacKeeper, isn't this adware / malware?

2 reasons that I see at a single glance, you have installed MacKeeper Malware, did the uninstall instructions and uninstall. Also, your Crashplan backup system is designed for continuous operation and is known to make slow systems. I would not recommend the use of this system or this time by backup only when you are not using the computer. Many users on these forums use local HD and Time Machine and then another external hard drive to create a clone of their system bootable using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.
Finally, you have purchased a basic applications iMac system and driving high powered (using resources). Type to buy a scooter 10HP and he expects to go to commute 250 miles a day at 80 mph. It will simply not do!

my iMac 27 5 k 2015 is much slower after installing Mac OS Sierra
My new iMac 27 5 k played beautifully even after I increased the 24 GB ram, but I noticed a notable slow performance and start up since the update for Sierra, is it shared with anyone? and what do you recommend to improve the speed of my iMac?
Download and run EtreCheck and view the results. http://etrecheck.com/

My late-2012, iMac 27 "is very slow. This is macOS Sierra crossing an external, thunderbolt SSD drive. It was not long before, but since the installation of the new operating system, the performance is terrible. For those of you who might argue that having an external SSD as drive of the master computer probably the origin of the problem, remember that the computer worked perfectly well at least a year like this.
I enclose below two screenshots with the record of my iMac. I also ran EtreCheck and I enclose the report below.
I would be really grateful if you could help me solve the problem. My MacBook Pro mid-2009 (2, 66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB of RAM, internal SSD) is much faster than my iMac that makes no sense to me.
EtreCheck version: 3.0.4 (308)

Uninstall the malware CleanMyMac you installed according to the instructions of developers. Then restart in Mode safe mode then restart normally and test. Mac OS requires no cleaning, antivirus or ANY third party maintenance apps to function well. If simply left alone and updated most Macs will work well for years.

Why my iMac 27 "slows down with Sierra?
I'm running an iMac 27 "(fin 2012) with 32 GB of RAM drive and 3 TB of fusion." Before loading to Sierra, Adobe InDesign CS6 launched and ran fast as most of the data have been stored in the partition of the flash player. After the installation of Sierra, I noticed the app stops or slows down when I click on the items in the Panel and I get the spinning wheel. Is it because Sierra sends data to Cloud Drive when I'm online, or is something else operating here? It is most annoying. I'll try to clear the caches etc. but I don't know what is happening.
Photoshop CS6 seems OK.
I always forget to 'CONTROL THE FONTS'. I use FontExplorer Pro to make sure that I only have the necessary fonts to work. I forgot to re - organize my fonts folders for system font numbers are reduced to the minimum and FontExplorer only loads the necessary fonts. I will do this job very long, but I don't know that it will solve one of the main problems. For more information on Mac OS X font management see site and information http://www.jklstudios.com/misc/osxfonts.html of Kurt Lang

iMac running ridiculously slow
Everything on my iMac 2012/2013 is slow stupid. To start, the opening of applications, new windows/tabs and same type is delayed.
I tried a few cleaners free antivirus with nothing as a problem and no help.
Help / a decent (willing to pay) antivirus recommendation would be very appreciated!
You might have a little worn on the RAM sticks. Either replace them or get an upgrade. I had the same problem with my iMac to mid-2011 and it has 4 GB of ram I upgraded to 12 GB and it works perfectly now.

We have an iMac 27 inches that was about 3 years old and in recent weeks he began to be very slow. We often get the beach ball of rotation for simple things like opening an e-mail or from Finder. I tried a number of things without success:
- reset
- my hard disk space, it is only about 15% of the full
- Active disk utility and I tried to fix it, everything seems good
- has performed a virus check, nothing found
- re-installed OS X (by the way, yes we took the latest version of El Capitan)
- checked for background applications, has nothing found
- has run Apple Hardware Test and found nothing
The only thing I suspect is maybe my hard drive? I checked and it is not one that is on the recall of Apple. Before I go and replace the hard drive, I would like to know for sure if that is causing the problem. Is there a way to know? or is there something else I have forgotten?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Please post a report of EtreCheckof your system. We then look for obvious problems. Please click on the link, download the application and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste into your response to this post.
If you would like more information on what is EtreCheck, just click on the link and you will find a description of the application.
You mentioned that you ran a Virus check, which indicates that you have anti-virus installed on your computer. This may very well be the cause of your problems that AV apps on OS X have a history of creating more problems than they solve. OS X is extremely secure and doesn't require any AV, cleaning or any OTHER type of third-party maintenance applications. If left alone and simply updated OS X tends to work well for a long time.
