Slow startup

My MacBook Air takes about 10 minutes to start to the top/start. The progress line goes to halfway and then everything stops. I have been to a lot of popups Mackeeper lately as well and wonder if something might have infected my computer. Any ideas?

You may have installed ad-injecting malicious software ("adware").

Do not use any type of product, "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" on a Mac. It is never necessary for her, and relying on it for protection makes you more vulnerable to attacks, not less.

Save all data first.

Some of the most common types of adware can be removed by following the instructions from Apple. But before you follow these instructions, you can try an automatic removal.

If you are not already running the latest version of Mac OS X ("El Capitan"), update or upgrade in the App Store you could adware to automatically remove. If you are already using the latest version of El Capitan, you can still download the current update of the Apple Support downloads page and run it. Still, some types of malware will be deleted, not all. There is no such thing as the automatic removal of all possible malware, either by OS X third party software. That's why you can't rely on software to protect you.

If the malware is deleted in your case, you will still need to make changes to the way you use your computer to protect you from new attacks. Ask if you need advice.

If the malware is not automatically deleted, and you cannot remove yourself by following the instructions from Apple, see below.

This simple procedure to detect any type of adware that I know. Disabling is a procedure distinct and better still.

Some legitimate software is funded by advertising and may display advertisements in its own windows or in a web browser while it is running. It's not malware and it may not appear. In addition, some Web sites display advertising intrusive popup that can be confused with adware.

If none of your web browsers work well enough to carry out these instructions, restart the computer in safe mode. Allows to temporarily disable the malware.

Step 1

Please triple - click on the line below on this page to select it, and then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination:

~/Library/LaunchAgents

In the Finder, select

Go ▹ go to the folder...

from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + v press return. Open a folder named "LaunchAgents", or you will get a notice stating that the file cannot be found. If the file is not found, proceed to the next step.

If the folder opens, press the combination of keys command-2 to select the display of the list, if it is not already selected. Please don't skip this step.

There should be a column in the update Finder window. Click this title two times to sort the content by date with the most recent at the top. If necessary, enlarge the window so that all the content show.

Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "take a screenshot of a window." An image file with a name starting in 'Screenshot' should be saved to the desktop. Open the capture screen and make sure it is readable. If this isn't the case, capture a small part of the screen indicating that what needs to be shown.

Start a reply to this message. Drag the image file in the editing window downloading. Alternatively, you can include text in the response.

Leave the case open for now.

Step 2

Do as in step 1 with this line:

/Library/LaunchAgents

The record which can open up will have the same name but is not the same as in step 1. In this step, the folder does not exist.

Step 3

Repeat with this line:

/Library/LaunchDaemons

This time the file will be called "LaunchDaemons."

Step 4

Open Safari preferences window and select the tab 'Extensions'. If the extensions are listed, post a screenshot. If there are no extensions, or if you cannot launch Safari, skip this step.

Step 5

If you use Firefox or Chrome browser, open the list of extensions and do as in step 4.

    Hello

Maybe you've connected to some external devices to slow down the start-up procedure. You can also try to disable all the hardware components you n t need (modem. IrDA). Also check out which device is defined in a first start time (I hope that the HARD drive).

For slow closing is responsible only running processes that should be forced disconnected. It all depends on your own configuration and you are using external devices.

After another reboot, it seems that the deletion of my anti-virus, corrected the problem of slow start. She went from 4.5 minutes to about 1 minute and 20 seconds.

  • iMac is painfully slow startup

    Hello

It is has been a problem for a while, but seems to have slightly worsened with El Capitan. After start-up or a restart, it is a good 6-8 minutes - without exaggeration - until my computer can begin to open programs without huge lag. About 10 minutes until it is at full speed.

    iMac (27 inch, end of 2013), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Any ideas, or is this normal? I repaired disk permissions, flushed trash and generally keep the machine running as clean as possible without being an expert.

    Thank you.

It is not normal, not even remotely.

Backup everything then check your hard drive. Slow start ups can be a symptom of a failing drive.

  • Slow startup after installing the SSD because gray screen

I just installed a Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010. I went to start and it starts very slowly due to a gray screen just sat there for about 30 seconds and then it shows the apple logo and it takes another 15 seconds to load. The gray screen did not appear before installing the SSD but the Apple logo did take longer to load with the HARD drive. I used SuperDuper to clone my my SSD HARD drive and installed the SSD and it starts normally. The only issue was the gray screen. I've heard that I need to go into system preferences and select Startup disk, then my boot drive, but there is no choice. Help, please.

  • Slow startup of Vista on Satellite U300 14 K

I recently bought this Satellite U300, but it takes about 3 1/2 minutes by pressing the button, until I see the desktop and the sidebar Windows. I already turned off non-essential processes in Windows Defender and msconfig.exe, tried to have the radio Bluetooth and Windows Sidebar disabled, and it has not changed anything. Just on the black screen that shows up just before the office, for at least two minutes.

Anyone other suggestions to speed up at startup tings? I have to re - install Windows Vista from the Toshiba DVD?

    Thank you

    Tine

I think I knew in fact that is the problem, but I don't have the knowledge to fix it myself if it's here:

When you start the "Toshiba" and "Welcome" is displayed as it should. But after that, the computer lies on a black screen for about two minutes. Recently, I tried to open the task manager at this point and it was no problem. If I could terminate explorer.exe and run it again, and as if by magic my office appears instantly! So I guess that the explorer.exe process gets delayed just somehow?

I hope someone knows how to solve this problem, your comments are welcome!

    Thank you

After issues with finder/desktop freezes I disabled automatic backups time machine and disconnected the disk.

The drive does not have an index problem if I try to go into the time machine - but it made a backup and I don't want to lose those there until I have solve the problem.

It all started when I was a housekeeping cleaning - deleting a file PDF - update of my photos outside of iphoto to include an image with text etc.

Lately reached some stability during starts - in this very fast - almost every day except Wednesday - what is the start of a new week on my time machine - today's startup disk was gray and blue for a few minutes - then to avoid a freeze I restarted after loading the desktop computer.

This also happened this afternoon when I started again - same last week - up to what he did and why - nothing in the logs to indicate anything unusual.

If I plug the drive and push a time machine backup will scan the drive anyway so don't know what's the point.

Just a quick note here - while in offline mode system - about 5 minutes after the use of widgets - frozen - was to force the reboot - but I did remove all the widgets and disable all the table - as one or more of them--came with Snow Leopard - can be the source of the problem.    I just put the calculator (not the widget application

Extra - last night I noticed a lot of disk activity when I didn't do anything other than look at the activity - with TimeMachine notifier - monitor issue as time machine is not connected and is off - when I connect it - it will scan the disc again - so what is the Apple of point.

Had trouble starting this AM - had a finder does not not - was able to force quit of doc and did a reboot, and I did a second reboot.
