Smart playlist files: overlap of the songs.

It is not a problem in itself, but it's a technical quirk that I can't find any information for, on these forums or elsewhere.

If I have 2 smart playlists, one for 'Top 50 most played' and one for 'Top 50 highest appreciation', there may be some songs that are in both lists. I want to know if I put both of these smart plsylists in a smart folder, and then play the file, the songs that are in two playlists play more often, or they all have an equal chance?

i.e. If there are 25 most played songs, 25 songs that are the most appreciated and 25 others who are at the same time, each individual song have 1/100 chance of play, or 1/75 chance? (as there are 2 lists of 50 but only 75 songs).

A playlist folder will have exactly one entry for each song that is in a confined playlists, no matter how many playlists, it is in, or if it is repeated in any of the regular lists. The number of copies in the playlists of the child cannot affect the random algorithm. If there are 75 songs in the playlist each folder a chance of 1/75 to be selected. (Ignoring the fact that iTunes can actually use a weighted algorithm to play higher rated the title more often.)

    OK, so I got a new iMac 5 k and restored my iTunes library by dragging the system files to the new machine via the time machine (I didn't want to just restore from my old mac).

    While trying to copy a cd to my iMac (via an external cd drive) I get the message below. I searched the darkest depths of the internet for a solution without success. Many people seems to receive this message when they have their iTunes on an external hard drive and the only reason why, I guess it's a problem for me is due to the fact that I imported time machine. I followed the steps suggested for these people (which includes iTunes will > Preferences > advanced and then to change the location, but that seems not work.)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Well I hope that you have solved this problem now, but if you don't have the answer for me was to use one of those USB "Aristide" leads on my CD/DVD drive Samsung external. They are the kind of son who have a mini-USB input in the drive, but two USB inputs in the computer. Which delivers more power to the drive.

    I got the idea from a post here a few years ago. Re: Error importing to iTunes on CD. The required disk cannot be found.

  • How to exclude the songs, didn't like in a smart playlist

  • iTunes playlist do not see all the songs

    I noticed the wire when iTunes will import a cd or existing music or reading list, and it does not include some of the songs in the playlist. I gave up on the commitment to Apple on the fact that iTunes does not recognise certain types of accents (think that the 2 points above the U in the name of the artist Unloco or something similar) of the song. In the case of Unloco, I had imported the songs and the playlist because I had them torn from my cd before using iTunes. However, the same problem arises when importing cd directly in iTunes. I imported whole album KGSR broadcasts Vol 4 and song # 17 disc 2 is an artist called memories of 8 1/2. ITunes has imported the name of the artist as a word processor might express part 1/2 of the name as a single character. This causes the playlist in iTunes not to find this song, while it is when I look at the music library.

    When iTunes developers will fix this? I called the Apple support on this subject in the past.

    Trying to describe exactly what the question... If I have an album with the artist Unloco (with the accent over the U), all songs will appear in the library, but there will be no playlist for this artist.

    If I have a song with an accent or this uniqueness 1/2, the playlist won't find this song in particular.  I noticed when I imported the 21 mentioned above cd song, all songs appeared in the library, but the playlist, which included two CDs was 1 short song.

    It's okay if iTunes creates its own playlist, or import a playlist that I already created (*.m3u)

    Thank you

    Murph

    I don't know what you mean by "it does not include some of the songs in the playlist.  A standard playlist will include exactly the songs you add him; smart playlist will contain exactly the songs that satisfy the rules that you define.  However, the mention of accented characters and .m3u files suggests that there may be a conflict between the representation of characters Unicode 16-bit (like those used by iTunes in its database) and representation of the characters 'ASCII' 8 bits in standard text files.  Of course, I see no problem with the characters accentuated by artist, Album, (song) name or playlist of the values of the name, as in these examples:

  • do not copy songs in the smart playlist for 10 iOS device

    I have upgraded to 12.5.1.21 on my Mac Mini Tuesday and set iTunes to update my iPhone 6 and Air iPad for iOS 10.  I also have an iPod Touch 5 which is glued to the ISM 9, which turns out to be a blessing.  In iTunes I have a large number of smart playlists, which many turning content at least recently played or update filters to filter the songs that were played in the last week, for example.  So when I play songs in the list, then update the list in iTunes, the songs played are removed, and new songs come in.  Everything works well.

    Until I update my iOS 10 devices.  When I update the playlist in iTunes on Mac, it shows the new content.  When I update my iDevice, it shows the set songs to date on the device, using the view from iTunes on Mac.  When I disconnect the device and check the reading list, there is no songs.  All the songs in the playlist have disappeared.  The songs are really there, but the device iTunes lost them or they were never really copied.

    It does not have other types of playlists. It seems to only affect smart playlists with date restrictions. My iPod Touch always behaves very well with the same smart playlists.  So maybe not a problem with iTunes on Mac, but iTunes iOS 10.

    I also found that the smart playlists which depend on other playlists (i.e. they understand a rule "Playlist is... ") are similarly broken and empty in the iOS 10 (but they agree in iTunes on a Mac (for now)).  This is true if the original selection is also a smart playlist, or just a regular manual selection.

    However, I followed the tips in this article, and that fixed it for me: http://www.techradar.com/how-to/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/ios-10-pr oblems-here-s-how-to-fix-the-most-common...

    In short, everything Unsync broken playlists (i.e. remove them your phone) and then add them in.  It took a bit big for me to understand how juggling UNSYNC all my playlists without him also remove the associated music (mainly because I did not want to wait that it will copy my entire library over), but after I made, my playlists all started working for me again.

    Maybe he'll help with date rules as well?

  • iTunes: unable to read smart playlist in Windows 10

    I use iTunes, 10 64-bit Windows. iTunes Version: 12.4.3.1

    I created a smart playlist that has 240 songs in.  When I tried to play the smart playlist, using all available options to play the playlist, it is unable to play.  Nothing happens.  No error on the screen. nothing.  It is not just anything!

    However, I am able to play a song in the playlist by clicking the button play the song or right click > option on the song to play.  And while the song is played, if I try to move to the next song in the playlist, playback stops.  I can manually select any song in the playlist and play.  The song is played to the end and playing then stop.  He don't play the next song.

    I checked that shuffle is not lit (also tried with shuffle on), make sure the 'skip on shuffle' is not checked and we tried to recreate the playlist several times with nothing doesn't.

    No problem with any other smart playlists that have more pieces than this embarrassing playlist.

    Help, please.

    A proposal, you accidentally ctrl + click on a checkbox in this list, uncheck all the items it contains. Uncontrolled elements are ignored during normal playback of track in track but can be played on a wide basis. CTRL + click on a box empty or use Ctrl + A, then the context menu to check the selection.

  • Use a playlist as for what a smart playlist

    I 4158 songs that I'm trying to manage and how I put it in place, it is very heavy to add any additional music. I have 1 playlist that has every song, and then another which is the same thing but only 3 4 and 5 star songs, then another which is only 4-5 and then another that is only 5. The first playlist is hand sorted in function a lot of different things and the others are similar, but without the songs that do not match the requirement of the coast. As it is right now if I want to add a song it's 5 star I have to add to all 4 playlists, and then drag it to the correct place in each of them. I was wondering if I could use the order of the first playlist that has all the songs to manage 3 other smart playlists with restrictions aside. The order of these playlists is paramount and I can't have itunes order it by something else that the order I put in place for the first playlist. Is there a way to accomplish what I'm asking?

    Double Saga

    Sorry, but there isn't.  A smart, has another list of reading reading list does not inherit from the order of the original.  Once the smart playlist is formed, you can sort it by any column heading.  But any other command is a manual procedure.

  • How can I sort a list of smart playlist in iTunes?

  • car multimedia player does not display the titles of the songs as the music advances

    iPod nano plays until 2015 Chevrolet media player on the radio, properly displayed and all playlists. But as the songs to change track information does not work. Unless the player on the car is advanced manually and then the current song information is displayed while music plays. When the next song comes on the information does not. Any ideas out there? Restarted the nano and not help.

    With modern car audio systems, iPod is just acting as a storage device (as you connect a USB FlashDrive with music files).  The iPod is not determinative of the reading; the car audio system is to play music files.  So, I think that this problem is related to car audio system, not the iPod.

  • Removing duplicates, I usually have to remove the song duplicate twice to make it disappear. Why?

    When you remove duplicate songs, I usually have to remove the song duplicate twice to make it disappear. Why?

    When I delete the duplicate song it pops up again. When I erase it a second time he remains missing.   After the first removal, he reappeared with a little cloud in an arrow down. Once I have remove that she remains missing.

    Is it possible that I can delete a song in one operation?

    iTunes 12.3.3 on Mac Pro Tower

    Looks like you have an iCloud music library, Subscribe to Match iTunes Apple music (or both).  The first time, you probably delete the local copy of the song file (stored on the storage of your computer).  But the song still in your iCloud library, so it appears in your list of music library with the cloud with the arrow symbol (which you can click to download it again).  You can still play the song streaming from iCloud.  The second time, you delete the song completely within your music to iCloud library.

    You can see the distinction if you right click on a song (which is stored locally) in iTunes.  On the shortcut menu that appears, there are two separate, Remove Download and deletecommands.  Remove Download removes the local copy of the song file, but keeps the song in your music to iCloud libraryDelete deletes the song completely, with a single action.

  • By dragging the song to "play to" player selects always the first song in the list

    I was playing a list of songs in WMP 12 to my receiver via the mini Player "play to" which opens. I grew up a playlist of some of the songs I wanted to add to the list of songs that were already playing. However, I found that no matter what song in the list I chose, when I dragged to the mini-Player, there always more of the first song in the list. Even if I clicked the song to select before you slip, it is the same thing. Is it possible to fix this behavior?

    Play is quite buggy regarding existing reading list. I found that there
    better select individual titles, not those playlists and drag them into the drive.
    I also found that once established, the queue to play to add content
    It is uncertain.

    The other answer you received is a topic on the recording of the playlists, which
    really has nothing to do with the question of play that you're trying to solve.

  • How to create a Playlist file empty on Mac?

    Hello everyone, I am working on a music player script, I was able to play a file via the default drive when we double-click on a file. The problem is that I have no control over the player, so to "stop" a file I could play a 'silent' mp3, one with 1 second of silence inside for example. I threw the idea since I had to distribute this file with the script silent.mp3. A better option is to play a 'playlist', playlist files are text only, I could create an empty playlist file on the fly...

    so, the question is, what is the extension of list of default playback on a mac? and how to create one on the Mac?

    in windows, the default player is Windows Media Player, the default playlist file extension is *.wpl.

    Here are the contents of an empty playlist

    <?wpl version="1.0"?>
    <smil>
        <head>
            <meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Windows Media Player -- 12.0.7601.18150"/>
            <meta name="ItemCount" content="0"/>
            <title>empyPlaylist</title>
        </head>
    </smil>

    Here's the script, so far Windows only, at least to stop the currently playing file.

    iTunes wouldn't let me export an empty selection.

    The following three lines is the mentioned track .m3u playlist above:

    #EXTM3U

    #EXTINF:179, Aquarella - Georges Arvanitas Trio

    / Users/dirk/music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Media/Georges Arvanitas Trio/Jazz loves Paris By Night - organ Piano & Hammond/02 Aquarella.m4a

    If I run this file from playlist, iTunes abandons the current track and lets the list.

    If I remove the lines 2 + 3, iTunes ignores the reading list.

    If I change line 3 to a bogus file reference, iTunes ignores the reading list.

    BTW, iTunes sees the "repeat" setting - so if the track is a second of silence, it will be repeated forever.

  • Playing songs not controlled in the smart playlists

    I have a lot of smart playlists to my favorite bands, all these work fine. Most of the bands have a greatest hits album and I Don t want these appear in the smart playlists, so I uncheck them.

    Now I ve created a list of smart playlist to play only more great songs from hits of a certain kind and although the playlist fills correctly I can´t play because all the songs are unchecked.

    Is there a way to get around this?

    TIA

    Although the playlist fills correctly I can´t play because all the songs are unchecked.

    Tmoore,

    If a song is disabled in the library, it will be disabled in any playlist it is in.

    Instead of smart playlists, use regular playlists.  If there is an album ("Greatest Hits") that you want to include, just omit it.  Then, you can let all your songs checked.
