The next major upgrade requires retail OSX 10.6.3 Snow Leopard DVD installation disc:

• Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple (US $19.99) on DVD at retail:

http://www.Apple.com/shop/product/MC573Z/A/Mac-OS-x-106-Snow-Leopard

And the Apple Store online for about $20. With this DVD, you can

upgrading to a new OS X. After installation, download last step Combo update here:

• Mac OS X 10.6.8 Combo Update v1.1 - this update to download full 10.6.

{Those all Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8.} Then the computer might be

to get in the App Store for some applications; but not the most recent.

{It can could be upgraded to another entirely new OS X as described below...}

Snow Leopard 10.6.8 must be completely installed before considering another

upgrade, that costs but has also no installation disc media. 10.7.5 lion.

This model can not be upgraded to the latest OS X but could not only

OS X 10.7 Lion (by purchase, online at Apple Store: $20) Who will be

then allow you to use a download available from Apple Code

to access the App Store to download the purchased OS X 10.7 Lion.

• OS X Lion (10.7) - Apple Store (US $19.99)

Once installed over download, you can get download update Combo:

• Download the update of OS X Lion 10.7.5 (customer Combo)

The total capacity of chip RAM or memory can also be upgraded in the

to add performance with a BONE later X, see the specs here:

6.0 (actuals) GB 4.0 GB (Apple) maximum memory

2-200-pin PC2-5300 (667 MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM memory slots

{This would mean a single chip of 4GB and a 2GB chip for 6 GB total}

The computer you can be also (if not already installed) capable

use an update of the firmware MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.2

Apple - Support - downloads - EFI firmware updates...

Some older applications will not make the transition to Snow Leopard

for later versions of OS X, as support for some those has been truncated.

Several former MacBook core2duo users, found better Snow Leopard

that Lion 10.7.5. However if you have a new iPhone or other devices

a later iTunes and other applications can allow to sync from Mac to them;

where Snow Leopard 10.6.8 could not. So he invites further research.

Hope this helps a little...

Good luck in this case!
