So confused on the backup of bookmarks

I lost all my favorites when my computer crashed. I thought that they would have been on my backup drive, but they were not.
With no claim to export to a HTML file, and then put in the documents, then when you save, they will be there.
"Then I heard up to a json file. I tried and it does not open to the top of my desk.
So I don't know what to do. I can't afford to lose again. I'm slowly building upward, but he had a lot of medical sites out there.
What is the best way and the safest way.
I have windows 8.
Thank you.

Hi PattiChati, it depends on configuring your backup software - what files it backs up. Make sure that you export to one of these folders.

Firefox can only look at the file name for the number of items.

    • < number > _ < hash > .json bookmark-YYYY-MM-JJ_

The files in the bookmarkbackups folder are currently in compressed format .jsonlz4 (i.e., they show data binary like a ZIP compressed archive) and cannot be easily unzipped for access the JSON text format.
The files are compressed means that a single error in the file will make it impossible to unpack the file.

Have you checked all the available JSON backup to see if everything works?

A backup created manually JSON is always not compressed, so can be easily inspected or opened in a text editor (Notepad > "Pretty Print"), but with a compressed file, it is much more difficult.

Recovery of a file via an undelete utility is no guarantee that the space occupied by the file has not been used by another file, and so is corrupt.

  • confusion with the categories and types of backups

    Hello

I started studying the RMAN and I'm getting a little confused with the backups... ask someone to clarify the following queries:

    1. HOT times and COLD backup strategies perform BACKUPSET BACKUP and COPY of the IMAGE?

2 about the HOT water and COLD backup, are they only associated with the FULL backup?

    3. incremental backup are also HOT or COLD backup?

    4. incremental has 2 types: Cumilative and differentiated?

I'm a bit confused with the above...

    Help, please.

    Concerning
    KK

    Whether HOT or COLD:
    BACKUP DATABASE will create BACKUPSETs

(this default value can be overridden if you have set up the TYPE of DEVICE...) BACKUP TYPE to... where the backup type can be changed by default for the COPY.

    Whether HOT or COLD:
DATABASE BACKUP AS COPY will create Copies of the Image

An incremental backup can be a HOT or a COLD backup.

  • When is the backup file for bookmarks created?

My current bookmarkbackups folder is dated 8.18.15. I've added new bookmark today - 8.20.15. When the new bookmarks will be added to a bookmarkbackups folder? I closed Firefox thinking that would invoke the backup, but he did not. Thank you

A JSON bookmark backup is created when you start Firefox when a comparing the current hash obtained with previous shows a difference, but you might give some additional downtime if you have a large amount of bookmarks in Firefox.
If necessary, you can manually create a JSON backup.
This is an uncompressed backup (.json).

If this isn't the case, then maybe do a check of the places.sqlite database.

  • When I try to restore my bookmarks I get the message "Failed to process the backup file."

I lost my favorites and when I try to get back them, I can see the backup files in the recover window, but when I try to restore my bookmarks I get the message "Failed to process the backup file." Can help you? Thank you

You can check for problems with the database places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Cannot restore bookmarks. "Unable to process the backup file." I tried all of the solutions that I can find online.

I am under W7 and 14.01 FF. My FF admin account works fine. My work account has problems. In the past I was able to get the bookmarks to return but not this time.

The favorites were there yesterday morning and disappeared in the afternoon. Nothing has changed between the AM and PM to my knowledge. I tried every solution that I could find online but still no bookmarks.

Problems with bookmarks and history does not properly can be caused by a corrupted database places.sqlite file.

You can try to check and repair the database of places with this extension:

Also, make sure that the backup has the correct file extension (.json to restore a JSON backup).

  • How to import a backup of bookmarks in the file file type?

Well, I had a computer installed Windows Vista with Mozilla Firefox, but I was getting rid of him. Therefore, I used the backup tool to give me a backup file to restore on my new computer. The file is in the file type, not JSON or HTML file, even though I didn't know it was a problem. Now, this computer has disappeared and I try to get my favorites on it but it won't work. How to make this work?

What kind of backup do you have? A backup of the bookmarks Organizer or a backup using the program MozBackup?

If you have used MozBackup, you must install it on the new computer to decode the backup. http://mozbackup.JasnaPaka.com/

If you have used the bookmarks Organizer, you can simply add .json at the end of the file name.

  • Lost bookmarks do not recover, system shows "failed to process the backup file ' how to solve?

One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

  • Windows backup - Some Confusion over the Date of backup

I have back up once a week on Removable Drive L:

When we look at control panel > backup and restore, I see that my last backup was on January 3, 2011, as planned.  I also see that three files have not been saved because backup Windows could not find them.  No problem.

When I look at the Drive: Explorer > computer > l: However, I don't see that the folder that contains the backup is dated 12/26/2010 under "update."  I remember correctly, is that it is all the time that I turned on my backup to a C: partition on my removable disk L:, probably create this folder on the first backup on removable disk L:

As time passes, the backup on L: folder should not reflect the date of the last backup?  How can I know that the backup works (see other than the correct data in the control panel > Backup and Restore)?

Here are the results: right click on the inf file: containing the backup (the file displays the "Save" icon), then the properties > Previous Versions shows no available versions.  Properties > general tab shows the typical parameters of a file; e.g., size of 0 bytes, date of creation, etc.

Because it is a folder, there are no properties > Details tab.

Dating back to the control panel > Backup and Restore > manage space, I see that two backups are stored in the inf file: Reader corresponsding for scheduled backups performed two since I have configured backup for this drive.  Everything seems normal.

On further reflection, it seems that Windows 7 works normally, because the "Date Modified" column in Explorer mode don't not one) that reflects the changes made to existing files in a folder root or additons b) new files/folders in a folder root were made; rather the 'modified date' refers only to the changes that could be made to the properties of the folder root after its creation that is, in terms of sharing, security, etc.

Since Windows 7, at least, you have no control over the name of the backup that is created and used for the backup folder, and there is (apparently) no exception to the general rule of Windows about how the "Date Modified" column is - at least in the case of backups - it seems that a user is more or less in "trust me". , rely solely on the information available in the control panel > restore and backup to determne if the backup does not work (other than to do a restore of your time immediately after the backup, not a good idea).

I guess that the preschoolers old like me just feel more comfortable using the Explorer to display the properties for the actual backup file and see the date of creation.

Maybe a suggestion that might be implemented in next SP?

  • Time Capsule - problem with the backup

    Hej!

I get the message "an error occurred during the file copying. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, use disk utility to repair the backup drive. "A bit of research on Google, it seems that to restart the time capsule actually perform a repair disk. So I did it. The problem comes back, and sometimes she disappears, if I restart the backup, which confuses me. Is it possible to view the error logs and check what is the problem? I'm afraid that the backup drive may have hardware problems. I bought time capsule airport little for more than a year (in Sweden).

Someone else has encountered this, and what was your solution?

    Johannes

Most of the questions is network... and the error messages may not clearly identify between a network and disk problem problem.

I bought time capsule airport little for more than a year (in Sweden).

How long this problem has been going since then?

In Europe the warranty period may be 2 or 3 years by law.

Certainly if you have AppleCare on a supported product... computer, ipad, or apple TV the TC will be replaced by Apple under warranty. Just explain your problem to them.

If you do not have access to the warranty or replacement.

I highly recommend that you check your drive TC if there is nothing on what you need... then do a single pass low level format. It's utilitarian airport disk tab Archive is here... then the clear operation.

    Erase use the single-pass option.

It is a low level disk format. (Don't bother with 7 and never even dream of using 35).

If the problem persists when you restart the backup I suspect network problems... or the TC is a failure... mine (a 3rd in 3 years) comes from the same way... I pulled the drive and replaced it with a better brand than the basic model known problem seagate used Apple.

  • I started my system, unfortunately I forgot to backup all bookmarks on firefox, how could I get these bookmarks in firefox need help from your server

    Hi, friends
I started my system, unfortunately I forgot to backup all bookmarks on Firefox, now how do I get these bookmarks in Firefox need help from your server

Start or restart to activate something, or restart.

Did you format your hard drive or re-install Windows?

If you did a reinstall of Windows, look for a folder.
It can be called old windows. Check the instructions that you were given.

  • After that I restored the backup Thunderbird using Mozilla Backup, any of my accounts table. I checked that they are in need of backup, lift the mail.

I backed up my 24 Thunderbird using Mozilla Backup. I did what I had to change one of my accounts. After making the changes, I decided to restore the backup I took. Restore seems to work and I checked the profile is correct and e-mail accounts are in the mail folder. However, when I run Thunderbird, only the Local folder is displayed, any of my email accounts. I really need to get this working I have very important data in the email. Thanks for your help.

Did you change the path where the mail files?

And, you use local folders in the GUI of TB to store messages?
Did not have that clearly in your post.

According to what you actually did Re: evolution of the accounts, & if the backup has been restored in the way (profile) accounts (and the profiles.ini file) think they are in. if the profile is now in a different path, you will need to change the path in the file profiles.ini to reflect the correct path.

Also, sometimes after restore or do other work, the *.msf files in e-mail files get damaged or simply confused. The .msf files are in the same folder as the Inbox, sent, etc.. They are the index files - not electronic mail storage files. (the mail storage files do not have extensions).

Often, when the email that actually exist in the mail files does not show in the accounts, remove only files *.msf in each acct mail storage file will correct it. This is the easiest step to try, but again - it depends on actions leading to the question.

They will be recreated when TB restarts & apparently can "fix" themselves, to redisplay stored messages. Unless something on current storage files is corrupted.

  • My Favorites are lost and Firefox can not restore from backup with this error msg "Unable to deal with the backup file.". Someone please help.

I use Firefox 12 on my Macbook Pro, it crashed and when I rebooted, all my favorites have disappeared. When I tried to restore from the backup files, he returns with "Failed to process the backup file." Someone help please I would have lost years of bookmarks.

    Thank you

    Hi guys,.
I also experienced this problem and based on the previous explanation in one of the threads here I got the following article - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_process_the_backup_file_-_Firefox

I myself have deleted only the file places.sqlite and places.sqlite.corrupt from the profile directory and was able to import my favorites since the backup file successfully.

When I try to restore the backup of my office, I get and error message: unsupported file type

I did all 3 backups named something different and none of them will restore. I tried to add a. JSON extension on one of the files and that did not work.

What should I do to recover my bookmarks on Firefox?
    Thank you

SOLVED THE PROBLEM. When I rename the files I used capital letters because it was what appeared in the drop-down list when I originally saved backups. I went back to the profile file and made other backups are all lower case (.json) so I renamed the file that I had left the office and used the lower case letters, I went back to Firefox and the file is presented and restored perfectly. Sorry for being so boredom. Thanks for all help

  • backup of bookmarks firefox 10.0 not work help

Hi, ok I have a problem with bookmarks. So I go to bookmarks and then display all bookmarks then I click on import and backup, then I click on backup but when I do this nothing happened. I have Firefox installed 10.0 the 9.0 is the same thing I even did CCleaner to see if that helped, but it not some can help me please

Did you backup to a different directory than the bookmark backup in the profile? If this does not work, maybe the places.sqlite file is corrupted. You can test to temporarily move out of the profile, and then retry the bookmarks. They should be restored from the last backup of bookmark. If you find this solves the problem, delete the file places.sqlite.
