Software update service: push updates to clients

Hi all

I just set up OS X 5.0 for the first time, so it is all quite new to me. Is it possible to get the OS updates from the server to clients registered? I read about the differences between the update server and software of caching, and since you can't run both at the same time and think the update service is more convenient if we consider only provide updates to OS X clients. My understanding is that users must apply the update on the app store, but is it possible to push updates to clients instead? Even a command would be useful, so I can run remote commands from the terminal on any client, but really, I'm open to any suggestion.

Welcome to the forums.

So, there's two ways to look at this issue.  You can "push" updates to customers or you can tell customers to "pull" updates.  Let's look at a few options.

If you go the mentality of 'push', you must visit the Apple website and download individual installers or use a master machine to pull updates from the App Store.  Then, you can use tools from the Apple Remote Desktop to JAMF to deliver these updates for client devices.  It can exercise a level of control that determine only you, the doorman, where the devices are updated.  However, several updates require reboots if you need to be selective in your calendar, because you don't want to pull the rug out from under a user.  In addition, pushing updates to date still require local execution of the installation program.  If you do not have a command on all devices administrator account, you will not be able to allow installation.

Now, you can also "pull" updates.  Indeed, this is what happens when you run the software update manually.  Ah, but there are options that you have found.  You can just pull everything Apple, but if you have a slow Internet connection and a lot of features, you can paralyze you.  You can deploy the software update server, but then you get everything from Apple for the past 8 years, that 90% you do not want.  Oh, and the software update server means that you need to customize each device with custom update path.  If you deploy portable computers, which means that they must be on your local network to get updates because the substitution is supported by a URL.  The last method is through caching server.  Caching server requires no customization of the client side and puts in cache only what you ask.  The first device application will require a download to Apple, but all subsequent devices can pull out of your cache server.  Very effective.

So, you decide to enable a client 'pull' and realize that the caching server is probably the best way to do it.  Ah, but you still don't want to visit all the machines.  You can use the softwareupdate command-line tool to perform an audit of software across the entire fleet (softwareupdate man for more details).  For example, let's say you have 10 machines and you have Apple Remote Desktop.  You can send a Unix command for all 10 machines such as: softwareupdate-i - a

That command will tell each machine to install (-i) all (-a) updates available.  You can also target specific updates so if you need to be selective (Apple released iTunes and an updated OS the same day and you don't want to push iTunes until you post the update of the OS for example).  softwareupdate-i NameOfiTunesUpdate.pkg.

    When you are in the display of error message you will get a support contact option once you click on it, it should open up Internet explorer. If you are able to open IE page, then follow the steps and see if it helps.

    a. Click Start and type cmd in the search box.

    b. right click on cmd and then click Run as administrator.

    c. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER:

    Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you're sure, select Yes)

    Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    Type: Rename tokens.bar tokens.dat

    Type: cd %windir%\system32

    Type: net start slsvc

    Type: cscript slmgr.vbs - FLIR (it may take time for this will be complete, please be patient)

    Reboot twice

    You may enter the product again key, and then activate.

    I'm unable to view or download from the App store apple updates. Everything else in the app store works fine except the updates and the updates, I get 3rd party updates, but nothing from apple. If I click on updates at the top of the app store icon I get the following error

    • I can ping swscan.apple.com and she is resolved to 17.164.1.22 which is the same IP that also resolves the mac next to me (which gets the update)

    You can try to disable the Sophos websheild and ClamXav if she has one. Even better would be to uninstall both and test.

    FWIW, it is never a good idea to have 2 av programs installed.

    There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:

    • an ActiveX version for IE only
    • a plug-in version for most of the other browsers including Firefox
    • On a Windows system, you must always update both individually.

    You don't seem to have the Plugin for Firefox installed version. If you did, in the Add-ons > Plugins you would see "Shockwave Flash (version)".

    Install or update Adobe Flash

  • Two updates of Boot Camp several times offered in Apple Software Update (ASU)

    On the Mac Pro 2013, did someone else repeatedly offered the

    (1) "graphics Driver Update for Boot Camp" (version 6.0) - 339 MB

    (2) "Apple Boot Camp Update" (also v6.0) - 265 MB? It's a Mac of 2013 Pro Win 10 worm. 1511 running with an AMD over-pants GL D700. From the looks of #1, it was created in late March 2016 and pushed early April by Apple. 2nd one, judging by the. RAR-like icon (stack of books) and digital signature, it seems to be older (~ November 2015).

    So I installed #1 and it updated my drivers 15.201 to 15.301 AMD. Yay. But then the next day that it prompted me to #2, so I installed it too much thinking he was not associated with graphics. Drivers AMD has not been restored after the installation of #2; they are still 15.301. But then I would get invited to update #1 once again, and if installed, then you are prompted for #2 even ONCE, then #1, wash, rinse, repeat.

    For now, I've disabled #2 in Apple Software Update, so at least ASU is no longer * to me every day.     I've recently updated since an iPhone4s with iOS7 to an iPhone6s with iOS9.  I vaguely remember that in:

    Setting > general > software update

    There used to be an option to 'automatically' download updates (but not install).  From:

    It seems that the option is no longer available.  It seems that now you type 'Download and install' and then you have the option to install now or you can choose to install tonight or remind Me later.  Is it true that iOS downloads are is more "pushed" to you or am I missing something?  Not much else - everything just curious.

    Javaliga, they are always driven. They were pushed both my iPhone and my iPad - when it is connected to power and Wi - Fi as you know.

    Software bug is not affected in Android version 4.1.2 and above. Google announced that users on Android 4.1.1 and more are in danger of hearbleed.

    You can see that software affects your device in this application because even if you use Android 4.1.2 OR older, applications and services are still vulnerable to the heatbleed.

    A software update is necessary to fix the C/F changability in the weather widget (it is fixed in the latest FIRMWARE that comes with the tabs but is not provided by OTA.   • Windows Update crashes to install malicious software update 20 of 23

    I was working on a computer, Windows XP Home Edition for a friend who was infected malware and had not been turned on since December.  I removed 135 malware and then decided to do the Windows updates.  Initially, he could get an IP address even when I put a static... I did some research and followed the instructions to recover from deformation of Winsock2.   Then I got on the Internet to make the updates of Windows.

    Finally I put a Windows XP Home CD into the CD player and I got it to boot from the CD Rom it says its inspection system for quite a long time and then it asks you to insert the Windows XP Home Service Pack 1 disc (that's all I had) CD and press.  I hit enter and I'm in a loop.

    I can also do a start, stop, or restart, it just sits there.  I have to restart from the CPU.

    Any ideas where I'm going from here?

  • My scanner from veho VFS-001 film after working perfectly for a few weeksrefused to accept on PC after leaving for a few weeks. VEHO believe he may have been touched by your software updates, particularly for the 3 pack.

    Scanner not accepted after initially working Ok and think have damaged the scanner software updates. When reported to VEHO that service pack 3 has been installed now they said that this could be the problem. would you agree?

    Thank you for your message.  You have the latest driver for your scanner from VEHO VFS-001 Film?  If this isn't the case, you might check with VEHO to get the latest drivers that may be compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 3.  If the Service Pack has indeed caused your scanner to stop working, you can click HERE to get instructions to remove Service Pack 3.  Please let us know if it did or did not help to solve your problem.
