[SOLVED] Possible to allow updates from Microsoft via the registry, GPO, separate download?

It is possible to activate Microsoft Updates via Group Policy, key registry or by download & install a separate package to "flip the switch"?

To clarify, I don't know what allows "Automatic Updates".  By default, systems get updates to Windows, but I want to get Microsoft Updates to get updates for all Microsoft applications (Microsoft Office, Visio, Project etc.).

UPDATE: This has been resolved.  The data further solutions below works.  I'll just all point to this excellent article from Microsoft:

Opt-In for Microsoft Update: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa826676(v=vs.85).aspx

Is it possible to change this setting remotely (via the registry or the command line or other means)?

    Hello

Yes, you can disable hardware acceleration on machines using the mms.cfg file.  Information on the use of the file mms.cfg to control the behavior of Flash Player is in Chapter 4 of the Guide Administration of Adobe Flash Player for Flash Player 14 | Adobe Developer Connection.

  • my dvd/cd drive and all other removable drives are more recognized since an update from microsoft

I need help! My CD/DVD drive has disappeared, it is not even in the BIOS, and all the other removable disks since I installed an update from Microsoft. I went through all the troubleshooting steps and nothing has worked, including the fix it. How can I fix it? I contacted Microsoft and back an email that I had to PAY for technical support to resolve this issue. Which seems hardly fair since there was an update on their part that messed up my laptop. I have a Gateway MX8738 with Vista Home Premium. I have not seen the error messages it just that there is no CD/DVD drive installed and when I check in my computer the only things that are displayed are the drives C and D.

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check the cables
both ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean the
power and data of the contacts with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer
and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case
(Read burn CD & DVD and CD and DVD). It's not unusual for 1 or 2 parts to not
function, while others do so correctly.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates

Here are the keys to what I believe are the ones in question - for the CD/DVD drive subkeys
course because there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask involved specific keys
    as well as the parameters.

  • Why can not download updates from Microsoft?

I have a laptop that is running Windows Vista and I was not able to install updates from Microsoft for a long time. As a first step, what he did but one day, after an update it just stopped working. It will always fail, and sometimes I get a message saying that he does not configure so it. I solved this problem temporarily but just manually download the update from the Microsoft site that works but as of lately, I'm getting loads of updates (like 30 at a time) and it's just too many things to be updated manually. Also, I'm running in the updates that were as different versions (like x 64 KB34567 or KB34567 ie43) and I don't know which one I need. I would really like it if my computer would download these updates on their own. Does anyone know how to fix this?

The update of Windows becomes boring because whenever I get the said I have a ton of important updates for Microsoft, but then I can't download them so he just keeps popping up.

You receive errors related to updates?

    1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, all programs and then click Windows Update.
    2. In the left pane, click view update history.
      http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/see-which-Windows-updates-are-installed
    3. Find an update for Windows that has failed to install, and then double-click the update to view more information.
Updates that have failed to install will display failed under status, next to the name of update.
    4. In the Windows Update dialog box, next to the details of the error, review the error code for the update has failed.
    5. Follow the links in the Windows Update dialog box under more information or help and Support to resolve the problem, then try to reinstall updates by using Windows Update in Control Panel or by mail with the error code and maybe someone may be able to help others.

  • Change the path to the updates from microsoft updates vs. windows

    Fully updated, xp pro, ie8

When you click Start, all programs, windows update, go to the updates of microsoft with the compatibility view

which connection online for microsoft updates gets updates microsoft without compatibility view

can I change the path for my start, all programs, windows updates to be updated from microsoft without view compatibiliy?

Edit: have reinstalled os with a sp3 slipstreamed cd.

Edit2: no sites are not listed in my compatibility view settings.

There is no need to uninstall/reinstall MSE.

    1. open IE (only!) to Microsoft Update . Click change settings in the left pane. Scroll to the bottom of the page. To stop using Microsoft Update. Disable the Microsoft Update software and let me use Windows Update only (check).

    1B. Reboot for good measure.

    2. your shortcut on the start menu should now be updated to Windows . [1] use it (not the Tools menu pull-down option) to go to http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate. Assuming that it does NOT open in compatibility mode...

    3. "Flip" your source of default update appropriate Microsoft update by clicking on the option / link on the main page of Windows Update (IIRC).

3B. reboot for good measure & test to see if the Microsoft Update shortcut on your Start menu will however open IE8 in compatibility view.

PS: I don't have a WinXP box handy to test myself, but the last time I used the Microsoft Update shortcut on one of my client computers, it has not opened in compatibility view. As far as I know, MS may have changed something since then so YMMV.

    =============================================================
[1] If you persevere with Windows Update as a source of update by default, MSE will always be 'auto-update' [even thought that Windows Update will offer more optional updates Defs] but will offer no updates to the ESM (e.g. new versions MSE) program or updates for MS Office, Silverlight, or Skype .

    Hi,

It would help if you provided the WHOLE message and CORRECT, including all codes completely written word for Word - this can often help us identify the problem.

If you think you know when it started, and it is recent, then see if a system restore to before that the problem will work.  If you use Windows 7, seehttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html. If you are using Vista, seehttp://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/. If you are using XP, seehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084. Sometimes this simple process made the rounds and sometimes that doesn't help - but it is easy and worth if she has recently begun.

When everything is fixed, get rid of any program you use to do a cleaning of the registry.  Even if it wasn't the cause, it could easily be the next time.  It is poisonous to your system and is not necessary because Windows is a research work on its own.

Restore to factory state out of the box. Can I install all updates from Microsoft using Windows update or can I install antivirus first before to connect to internet?
