  The painting seems to be the problem.  I had not heard of this problem with the paint before, but it is possible, that he has always been there.  At least you have a program that gives you a work around for the problem you may need to consider that your standard procedure (since there is no way to uninstall it and reinstall Microsoft Paint on its own to fix everything that could be bad if indeed there is one problem other than a stardard deficit in the program.  It is not a very sophisticated program, after all - but what you try to do should work as far as I know (he just apparently)).

Meanwhile my anti virus is update solange wake up also. Both are supposed to occur automatically during the night. Shouldn't these scheduled etc. updates works even if the computer is asleep?

The speakers are OK. The microphone is connected is not detected by the system. Vista has been updated with the Service Pack SP1. The sound card is integrated into the motherboard (Intel G945GCL). The sound material is described in as "High definition Audio Device" Device Manager. I checked that the drivers installed are later.

  Sorry, this is not Microsoft.  This is a public forum from user to user hosted by Microsoft on its servers for the comfort of its clients, and we all here are volunteers.

  You say you use XP.  What is your question?  What do you mean 'conflicts with Vista?

  I suggest recovery discs you order from HP for your computer.  If HP is no longer the issue of stocks you can order such a third of Recovery - Disks.com.  There are several of these companies.  If you are going to use XP, you need to install XP from scratch and this means that you need XP drivers for your brand and model.  If HP has no XP drivers on your computer you must not try to use XP on it.

  Remember that Vista Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate out of Microsoft support on 10 April and there will be more updates, including critical security patches after that date.  Only Vista business and company will continue to receive updates.  You might consider this a good time to upgrade to Windows 7.  You must download and run the Windows Update Advisor once you restored Vista successfully.

  If you reinstall Vista you will have to update any new. If the operating system works very well, so it is useless to re - install in order to re - install. Once, re - install if you have multiple problems that can easily be corrected, and then reinstall is a "last" resort option

  You say you bought Vista Home Basic. I suppose, therefore, that you went into a store and bought a full retail copy? If so, the product key number is on the case. If you bought it from another source, for example, Internet, ebay etc (except direct from Microsoft) then you know that it's a genuine product key and not a copy hacked?

  It is in fact a copy of 'upgrade '? If so you need to install your "old" operating system first, for example, Windows XP and upgrade then.

  Check and recheck the code product key that you insert. If it continues to say the key is not valid, resume the DVD in the store that you bought it and ask them to check it for you. You can also contact the Microsoft Customer service in your own country - you should find one address number and/or e-mail on the Microsoft Web site.

  You can actually install Vista without product key by simply letting the dialog box empty product key and then pressing the next button. A message will appear in which you must press the No button. A list of the versions of Vista should then appear. Select the version that you have, for example, Vista Home Basic, press Next, then it should install. No you get away without putting the product key in. Although Windows Vista has been installed it works for a while, but it would give you time, we hope, sort out the product key number. After that the time scheduled (30 days I think) you will need to enter the correct product key otherwise Vista will simply stop working. This option is not ideal, but it will give you as small period of "grace." If you cannot sort the product key on or, heaven forbid, you ended up buying a pirated copy, you will have no real alternative but to buy another legitimate copy.

  I suggest you use my last suggestion as a "last resort" option Try to install on another machine to see if the product key works, or taking it back to the shop and ask them why it won't install.

• Windows Vista Home Basic Edition keeps looping and will not start

  Windows Vista Home Basic Edition will not boot to the Welcome screen. It keeps restarting loop. I tried to go into safe mode, but who does not start too. Loops of safe mode and return to the start screen.

  I have a dell laptop and I just restalled operating system. I had Windows Update set to automatically download and install. PC worked great until the next day (after the time programmed for automatic updates). I'm assuming that the started after some windows updates when installed. Unfortunately, I can not enter in Windows or Normal or Safe Mode.

  If safe mode does not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

  Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

  Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

  When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
