Speaker not working after installation of Service Pack 1 of Vista.

I have been under Vista Home Premium on my laptop for about 2 years, but have only now went on the internet with it.  I did the updates of windows, including Service Pack 1.  Now the speaker on the laptop does not work.  If I put the mouse on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the office, he said that no audio output device is installed.

Before I installed the SP1 download, I have my favorites of a link to the Microsoft page saying that this problem can occur.

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936330

This led to an application download of Mr. Fixit I read to mean he could diagnose and fix the problem.  All she could say is that there is no audio output device installed.

So, is it a driver problem caused by Mr. Vista SP1 from Microsoft?  Or what it is - this?  (I was quite civilized with the language that I used here - I would like to meet face to face!)

Seriously, I hope someone can help me here please.  I'm not one of the younger people really in place with computers, but I'm not totally computer illiterate either.

Thanks in advance,

K. Gazza

Hi, I'm back!

Problem seems to be solved - speaker is back!

I just made a couple more windows updates that require a reboot.  To my surprise and my greatest pleasure, I heard the sound of Windows in the process.  It may not have been restarted because I updated Vista with Service Pack 1 yesterday and there is no sound when I started the laptop today.  Perhaps the latest updates is done.

See you soon,.

I recently reinstalled my copy of Vista 64 bit I hope to solve this problem that has been with me for a while.  Before I wiped and reloaded, Security Center Windows would alert me every day that my firewall protection and malware have been disabled.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security, which is fully updated and works as it should.  I am able to activate Windows Firewall and bypass the firewall Kaspersky and that error to go away, however, I can't remove the error of malicious software.  I got all these errors directly after a restart after the installation of service pack 1.

Under Windows Security Center it says, "Kaspersky Internet Security reports that it is turned off," under the heading for malware protection.  When I click on the button to activate under Windows Security, it goes through the steps who say do you trust this program, Yes, Yes, ok.  After choosing all the options of trust Kaspersky and activate this protection, he thinks about it a little, but always returned and said it's off.  It also has a green light saying that Windows Defender is actively protecting your computer.

I think that my Internet Security Suite is successfully active in these areas and work I checked the menu, check that they work.  In my opinion, after installation of service pack 1 that something I have messed up in the statement that those programs are active or really uninstalled them.

Even if I can get the only message that the Kaspersky firewall is disabled to disappear by enabling the Windows Firewall, which is not yet as I want.  I want the suite of internet security that I paid to be active and functional on the side of the Windows security features.

I would appreciate any help with this problem by addressing why he continues to warn me that my protection malware and firewalls are disabled.  Thank you.

Also install Windows Vista SP2 this problem could be solved, otherwise try to uninstall and reinstall Kaspersky and also, try to get the latest version of Kaspersky.

  • Audio Acer 5520g does not work after the new service pack

I installed XP and is up-to-date. However, when a new service pack arrives, it destroyed the Realtech driver that I downloaded from the Acer support site.

One way to recover is to do a scan complete antivirus C drive.

Second method is to remove the speakers from the Device Manager, install the Realtech driver after the service pack update.

The question I have now is that the latest SP crushed the audio driver again.

Restore restore previous point never works on this or any other question, I've had with windows no matter what...

All previous options have failed now.

    Any help appricated.

  • PaperPort crashes after Installation of Service Pack 2 for Vista

I have a Dell E531 system with 4 GB of ram and disk space.  I use Vista Home Premium.  I used Paperport 12 Pro on Vista SP1 without any problem.  Today I installed the Vista SP2 update, and now the application will not launch.  I get an error message that extension Paperport MV stopped working - by referring to the ppmv.exe.  I also have a separate error message with the same information on PdfPro5Hook.exe.  The site of Nuance recommedned changing DEP to only MS services and functions.  It did not work.  I uninstalled the application, rebooted, and then re-installed.  It installs fine without error - until trying to launch.  Then I used msconfig to restart without the startup items - so with no A / V and firewall.  I then ran the msi Paperport again and set up a repair.  The same problem.  I would like suggestions.

    Eric,

Thanks for your detailed and informative response.  In fact, I completely uninstall all paperport by using the method you specified, as well as using solvents such as Revo Uninstaller and JV16 Powertools.  It did not help.  I finally got a response from shade that worked.  They sent me a zip file with the new versions of PPMV.exe and PDFPRO5Hook.exe.  After making sure that there were no process running paperport, I renamed the old files from .exe to .old and then copied the new verasions in the appropriate subdirectories.  After that, the application works again!  It took them several weks for answer me (too long), but the answer has solved my problem.  The gist of their response was:

1 make sure that PaperPort is not active (make sure that the error message does not appear and the PaprPort.exe process fails in the Task Manager Windows).
    2. download the PPMV.zip file from the following link:
    http://supportcontent.nuance.com/PaperPort/12/ppmv.zip

    3. double-click on the PPMV.zip file and extract the PPMV.exe and PdfPro5Hook.exe files on your Windows desktop.
    4. go to the PaperPort 12 installation directory (default is C:\Program Files\Nuance\PaperPort).
    5. find the file named PPMV.exe and rename it to PPMV.old.
    6. find the file named PdfPro5Hook.exe and rename it to PdfPro5Hook.old.
7 copy the new, PPMV.exe and PdfPro5Hook.exe, extracted files on the Windows desktop, and then paste them into the PaperPort 12 installation directory (default is C:\Program Files\Nuance\PaperPort).
    8. start PaperPort 12 and confirm that the app now starts correctly.

I hope this helps others who may be affected by the same problem!

    Hello Jon,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft answers forums for Windows Vista.

Please let us know the exact error code. It can be found in the windowsupdate.log file. Just click on start and in the search type windowsupdate.log box. Scroll down to the bottom of the window to check the error code.

Apart from that, you can try the following:

    Step 1:

Try to restore your computer to a time where it was working fine.

It uses system restore to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time, without affecting personal files, the restore points.

    Please help me...

    Hi arkitekromero,

Given that repair options did not work for you.  I suggest you try the method below.

Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk.

Rename the Pending.xml file, and then change the registry notes read the following important notes before you use this troubleshooting method.

    • Use this method to resolve the symptom of restart that is described in the "Symptoms" section, so that you can back up data before you reinstall Windows. You must use this method of troubleshooting only if you plan to back up data and reinstall Windows.
    • Use this method only after trying other methods.

Note If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer for instructions on how to continue.

    • Use this method only if the computer has no restore points or if you cannot start your computer to a point where the system restore feature is available.
    • After using this method, the following conditions may exist until reinstalling Windows:
      • An update is being installed may not be installed correctly.
      • Windows Update may not work correctly.
      • If an update is installed, you may be unable to stop the installation process.
      • You may be unable to enable and disable certain Windows functions in option.
      • Certain optional Windows features may not work correctly.
      • The computer may be in an unprotected state.

To rename the Pending.xml file, and edit the registry, follow these steps.

Start Windows Vista and go to system recovery options:

    1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then restart the computer.
    2. When you are prompted to restart from the disc, press any key.
    3. When you are prompted, configure the language to install, time and currency formatsand keyboard or input method options that you want, and then click Next.
    4. On the Install Windows page, click repair your computer.
    5. In the System Recovery Options page, click the version of the Windows Vista operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

Use the system recovery options to rename the Pending.xml file and modify the registry:

    1. In the System Recovery Options page, click command prompt.
    2. Type cd C:\windows\winsxs, and then press ENTER.
    3. Type ren pending.xml pending.old, and then press ENTER.
    4. Type regedit and press ENTER.
    5. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    6. On the file menu, click load the hive.
    7. Look for the following folder:
      C:\windows\system32\config\components
    8. When you are prompted for a name, type Offline_Components.
    9. In the registry editor, find and delete the following registry subkey:
      HLKM\Offline Components\AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving
      HKLM\Offline Components\PendingXmlIdentifier

    Exit the registry editor:

    1. At the command prompt, type exit to quit the registry editor.
