  • Problem with speech recognition in Windows 7 and MS Word 2010 - strange window opens

I have been using speech recognition in Windows 7 to dictate in Word 2010.  Yesterday it worked fine: I did a number of training records, added a few new words in the speech dictionary and dictated a part of a document.  No major problems.

Today, however, when I begin to dictate, rather than insert the words directly in my Word document, a secondary window will appear next to the insertion point and text appears here, with small buttons that say "insert" and "Cancel".  It's rather annoying - get the text dictated in the document, I must stop dictating and say "insert."  Is it possible to prevent that from happening?  As far as I know, I don't have any changes to the settings or program options to cause this.  Help!

Thanks for the answer, but now I can't seem to reproduce the problem.  I don't know why what started, but it doesn't seem to be the case more.  Thank you.

  • Speech recognition in Windows 7: what MS Office Word, not wordpad or Notepad?

When I trained with speech recognition, it seems pretty well put together.

The controls are a bit different from Dragon NaturallySpeaking, but much more user friendly.

The problem is that it works well with notepad and wordpad, but don't integrate well with MS Office Word. In Word, you must dictate in a staging area, and then insert the unformated words in Word.
What a shame, it's a good program otherwise.

  • Speech recognition will not start and continue to run

I am running vista 32-bit Home Premium edition. I finished the speech recognition session setting the microphone. I finished the tutorial.  However, no voice recognition program continues to run. When I run the program of recognition (or when it is started automatically to the 'start-up', it starts to run and then goes into "Sleep" mode for a few seconds and then on 'Off'.  The second time, I start speech recognition he will say 'Start speech recognition' and then go directly to 'Off '.  When I click on the microphone icon in an effort to implement the program "On", I get an error of speech recognition that says "Please restart speech recognition. It is said in the body of the error message "speech recognition has encountered an error. Please restart speech recognition to ensure that you can continue to use the speech recognition".   When I restart speech recognition error repeats.

Although the speech recognition tutorial seemed to work, the real speech recognition program doesn't have.

Does anyone know a fix for this problem? Thank you.

    Hello Dirleton,

Thank you for your message.  For testing purposes, could you try creating a new account on your computer?  The process is described below:
    * make sure that you logged in with an administrator account *.
    1. click on the 'Start' button > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    2. click on the arrow pointing down next to "local users and groups.
    3. highlight "users."
    4. in the right pane, right click and select 'New user' (enter information, then select OK)
    5. now right click on the new user and select "Properties".
    6. Select the "Member" tab and click on 'Add '.
    7. in the box type 'Administrators' and click on "check name".
    8. click on OK
Then log off your computer and connect again the new account.  Test the speech recognition, this will rule out a problem of profile corruption.  We can then troubleshoot further.
Please let us know if this or don't help solve the problem.

Connect the USB microphone (to aft port on a desktop computer, any port for laptop). Then right click on speaker icon lower right task bar. Click recording devices. Highlight the USB microphone. Speak into the microphone. Green bars should move up and down like you're talking about. If they do not, click Properties and then the levels tab level slider move to 100%, click OK and test speaking into the microphone again to see if green bars go up and down. If they don't, try a different USB port.

For the analog microphone test the same way. Use a Mic back in port, not one alone on the front or on a monitor.

Microphone work, go into Control Panel, speech recognition, and microphone Set prior to the formation of WSR (Windows speech recognition).

You can use your voice to control your computer. You can say commands that the computer responds to, and you can dictate text to your computer. Before you start using Windows speech recognition, you must have a microphone attached to your computer.

  • speech recognition - "this command is not available now"...

I have windows 7 with office 2010 and when I try to say commands, such as select Word or correct the word or ordering another new paragraph I receive a message of this command is not available now... when it will be available? also, when dictating a sentence, if I stop it capitalizes the next word in mid-sentence... How can I fix that? and don't forget that I can't use the exact word or select Word... it took me twice as long to make this letter with speech recognition, of the type just... I read on these forums, I googled to death and please please please do not direct me to another forum... I set up my micro I did the tutorial and additional training, I looked over the options and others and I can not understand how to fix... the exact same question was asked and the person who answered just said set up the microphone, the tutorial and the additional training and as many links to forums... I clicked and traveled all the links and the answer may seem not available as to why my speech recognition accepts not my orders... Please answer and if you don't know, don't send me on a forum's wild-goose chase...

The solution to your problem is to click the speech recognition microphone, first before you open Word.  Once the speech recognition is started, right-click it, click options, select Notepad of dictation and then open Word.  If you do it in this order, everything should work correctly in Word.  Notepad will not come to the top.  The command everything will work directly in Word itself.  If you open Word first before the speech recognition and do not have Notepad - "command not available" will come.  I hope this helps.

  • Speech recognition in Windows 7 does not work with several sentences

I use speech recognition with Windows 7 and Word 2010. In the past, it worked fine, but now it has developed several questions:

    1. When I say 'OK _', he responds with "this command is not available now.
    2. When I insert a period at the end of a sentence, it puts a space between the last word and the period.
    3. When I say "He went out", he responds with "this command is not available now.

The only change I made is the upgrade to Office 2010, but I have Office 2010 on my laptop and it works fine there.

Is there a way to fix the voice recognition program?

I'm having the same problem.  Windows Speech recognition (WSR) IS NOT playing well with Office 2010.  A very disappointing setback because it appears to praise them to the improvement of the accessibility features THAT WSR will not dictate in Word 2010 without having to accept the text in the window on the other.  Very slow process is the result of the incompatibility and effectively stops to dictate.  :-(

I have exactly the same problem, Word 2010 (32 bit on 64 bit systems) leaves me only the replacement window allows you to dictate text and many features learned during the training now work well in this mode.

It really does not need speech recognition. However, there is no problem using the dictation in Internet Explore.

To fix this (remove the dialog box) right-click on the translation of the speech tool, then go to options, then uncheck the "enable dictation Notepad '.

  • Speech recognition at startup error message

An error occurs quickly in speech recognition at the beginning of loading up to

    Hi jrztrk,

    1. What is the error message that you receive?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

If speech recognition starts at startup and you want to turn off, try the following steps:

    (a) open the Control Panel in the classic view by clicking on the classic view in the left column of the control panel.

    (b) open speech recognition Options.

    (c) click Advanced speech Options in the left sidebar.

    (d) check run speech recognition at startup if you want to start with WindowsOr uncheck it if you don't want speech recognition to launch at Windows startup.

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.
