SSD upgrade on Satellite L50 - B - 2 8

Hello

I would buy the Satellite L50 - B - 2 8 and replace the hard drive with an SSD.
At the moment I think that the samsung 850 evo is a good choice.

Unfortunately, I read on some recognition problems hard drive with other models of satellite.

It would therefore be gread to know, if anyone here has upgraded the Satellite L50 - B - 2 8 with an SSD and could give me some information on the problems and recommended model ssd?

In addition, I would like to know if the warranty is lost if I replace the hard drive with an SSD?

Thanks in advance

Hello

I don't have this model of laptop and does not offer a specific answer, but I think that the upgrade should not be problematic. I have the same SSD and use it on my laptop older satellite. It works perfectly.

SDS update is not a big deal, but there is another problem. This model of laptop is not separated from the HARD drive cover and if you want to have full access at the lower cover disk around must be removed. This should be done by an authorized only provider, and you must not remove on your own.

  • SSD upgrade for Satellite Pro P200 (PSPB7A-01000J) - possible?

    Hello world

I had a Satellite Pro P200 for 3 years and more. It came with Vista Business pre-installed, but I have successfully installed Windows 7 a few months ago.

A few months ago, I replaced the C drive in my office with a Solid State Drive and now he sings - program start and loading of the system is much faster than before.

Now I'm wondering if the SSD upgrade even could be done to my trusty P200 and if yes, what brand/model of SSD could be better. It should be 128 GB or 256 GB maybe.

Anyone else been in this way? The results? Pitfalls?

    All responses appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Greg.

    Hello

I think that it should be possible.
You must use a SATA SSD drive since the laptop supports the SATA controller.
To be honest, I never tried to upgrade the laptop with a SSD but SSD is not very different from the HARD drive and normally should not be a problem.
In some cases, an update of the firmware of SSD may be necessary but usually these firmware updates should be available on the SSD drive manufacturer support page.

    (2) if I replace the HDD with a SSD do you know if it will be possible to connect very quickly as with a ultrabook (spec intel)?

    Thanks for your help

According to the specifications of the laptop it has 4 RAM slots and can be upgraded up to 32 GB of RAM.
    Rams compatible are:
    4 GB DDR3L-1600-PA5104U-1M4G
    8 GB DDR3L-1600-PA5104U-1M8G

I advise you to buy high-quality Kingston modules and you will be safe from the 100% compatibility.

With SSD I think that there is no problem at all. I upgraded my laptop older and it works perfectly.

  • Satellite L50 - A - 16 Q - problems after upgrade to 8.1 windows

    Hi all

    I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite L50 - A - 16 Q.

I decided to update my laptop to Windows 8.1 Win8, unfortunately, it was really bad decision.
After that my computer is very slow. It takes forever to push the power button to be ready to use browser. Even Chrome does not work correctly. Before the update, my computer was big, fast and stable.

Is there anyone who had simillar problem? Is it possible to go back to Windows 8 without destroying my C: drive?
Maybe I should install something more?
    All drivers or another update?

I just install Win 8.1 update and nvidia drivers graphics.

    Hello

To be honest, I put t understand the decision to return to Win 8.
Win 8 contained many bugs that have been fixed with Win 8.1

Two days ago, I upgraded my new Satellite M50 - A Win Win 8 to 8.1.
It took some time but finally win 8.1 run on my laptop and its great!

First of all, you must update the 8 8.1 Win win recommendation of Toshiba:
    Details:
    http://www.Toshiba.EU/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/
All Toshiba drivers, utility tools must be updated!

With regard to the starting time:
You know the hybrid mode? Default (Win 8) did not stop you probably know other systems like Win 7 offshore. The 8 winning performed the closed hybrid that allows you to boot up the laptop faster. But this has been closed not real mode.

Here is a good description how toggle this mode:

  • Satellite L50 - B - 2 5 - upgrade of guaranteed RAM VS

    Hello

I have a laptop Satellite L50 - B - 2 5 and Im wondering if I lose the warranty if I upgrade the RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB. I have a 4 GB RAM module and I want to insert myself, but I am afraid of losing the warranty if I open the case.

    Thanks for your help.

Way General upgrade RAM will not void the warranty but your L50 - B has a specific design and it is not distinct from the cover of RAM in the lower corner. So you do not have access to the RAM slots. In your case the whole bottom cover must be removed, and you should not do this.

My advice to you is to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • Satellite L50 - B - 2 8 - new SSD is not recognized in the BIOS settings

    Hello

    I just bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L50 - B - 2-8 and I also bought Samsung SSD 850 evo 250 GB.
When I try to install the SSD drive rather my drive HARD, the BIOS show 'none' in the category of SSD/HDD (BIOS not recognize the SSD).

    Please help me.
    My bios version is: 2.00
someone told me that I have to downgrade my version of BIOS to 1.2V and then the BIOS recognize the SSD drive, so perhaps someone here can send me a download link for version 1.2 of my model L50 - B - 2-8.
    Thank you

someone told me that I have to downgrade my version of BIOS to 1.2V

And who? I mean you are sure that this person was right?
From my point of view of the few there is no reason why beginning version BIOS should recognize the SSD and the latest version of the BIOS is not...

But BIOS v1.2 for series Satellite L50 - B - 2 8 PSKTQE there is no v2.0 (at this time) is the latest version and previous versions of BIOS are not available for this series.

Also, I guess you must slimply check different SSD drive... it might be possible that the other SSD drive would be recognized correctly.

By the way: I am owner of Evo 850 SSD drive and as I remember, I had to update the firmware of the SSD drive to use it correctly in my other laptop (not the Toshiba device)

  • Satellite L50-B-27N - upgrade to the reader of the SDS

    Hello
I got SATELLITE L50-B-27N and I want to add drive hard ssd, is possible to add to the 1 TB 5400 RPM that comes with the laptop or I have to replace the ssd instead of the 1 TB drive?

I plan to do the same thing with my L50t-A-145 and would just buy a caddy of the Bay for optical drive on eBay. Your laptop has optical drive (DVD or Bklu-ray)? If so, it should be easy to remove - one of the screws on the bottom of your laptop will be used to set the optical drive in place. If you can work what screws it is and remove it, the optical drive should just slide out. You can then measure the thickness is (probably ~ 9mm) and then order an appropriate caddy. You can either put your SSD or the stock laptop 1 TB HARD drive in the caddy and bingo your laptop has 2 hard drives.

    Hope that helps,

  • Satellite L50 - A - 16 G - how to upgrade RAM?

I have a Satellite L50 a 16G with 4 GB of RAM and I would like to move to 8 GB, but I don't know what memories are compatible with my PC.
I tried to present that the serial number on the Support from Toshiba page but tells me that is not valid, as the Auto Detect tool is unable to detect my device and if I get the model in the list is not?
How can I get information on my PC?

According to specification for laptop, your laptop can be upgraded up to 16 GB. Modules memory compatible RAM for your laptop are:

    4 GB DDR3-1600-PA5037U-1M4G
    8 GB DDR3-1600-PA5037U-1M8G

In the lower corner of your laptop, you will find the cover of RAM. Remove it and you will have full access to the RAM slots.

Do you know how to remove/make up RAM modules?

  • Satellite L50 and SSD - performance problem

    Hello

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L50-A-1EH and the first thing I did was to replace the hard drive with an SSD.
Initially the SSD is not recognized by the BIOS, like many other users across the Internet reported as well.

To prove this statement here are other people having the same problem, and people have tried different SSD.

    Link: [1st edition SSD | http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/General-Troubleshooting/E45t-cant-detect-Samsung-840-pro-SSD/td-p/503785]
    Link: [2nd edition SSD | http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/General-Troubleshooting/Switching-HDD-to-SSD-on-Satellite-S55-A5176-Problem/td-p/590778]

The problem can be solved by changing a setting in the BIOS.

[The SATA interface parameter] [enforcement] to [battery life].

However, this workaround solution comes with a cost, which is performance.
The SSD is able to transfer files at a speed of 500 MB/s.

However, in this mode the SSD transfers files at 133 MB/s.
I lose 4 x the speed of the SSD.

In my view this problem in the BIOS.

Can someone help me solve this problem?

    With sincere friendships.
    Arthur BOULELLI.

I also discovered today that is not serious if I am running in mode UEFI BIOS (CSM).

Combined with AHCI BIOS mode it takes [parameter] Interface SATA for battery life, otherwise the SSD is not recognized.

The Toshiba using the latest firmware (to July 23, 2014), which is v1.70.
The SSD is a Samsung 840 Evo and has the latest firmware, which is EXT0BB6Q.

Given that the SATA interface is set to battery life, the SATA interface is set to SATA1, who of course tops out at 133 MB/s.

For me, it is simply amazing that a laptop with a Core i7-4700MQ the year 2014 cannot detect an SSD SATA3.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this?

    What is the best configuration?

In the new tray dvd box, put / install 750GB hdd drive of my laptop
Replace the 750 GB HDD with MX100 Crucial 256 GB SATA 6 Gbps internal SSD 2.5 "
is it posible? These changes will have a big increase in the performance of my laptop?

    Thank you very much.
    Juan Carlos

As I understood your message; you want to put the current HARD drive in the Bay ODD (optical disc), then a new SSD drive in the HARD drive Bay.
    Is this right?

Well, first of all it s a good idea to replace the HARD drive with SSD drive. You will definitely get a boost huge performance. I did these updates in the past, and my laptop runs a lot faster.

Now back to the question on the use of the HARD drive instead of driving ODD.
I put t know if it will be possible since the laptop does not support the special feature of selection-Bay.
In the past, some other laptops Toshiba Tecra and Portege series supported these updates but I'm not very well on laptops Satellite m.

So in the worst case the HARD disk will not be recognized in the ODD Bay

  • Upgrade GPU on Satellite L50-B-1EF

  • Upgrading RAM on Satellite L50-B-1DZ - need advice

    Hello

I want to improve my new laptop to use 8 GB to 4 GB. The site of the main product specification provides all the information, I need to know if I should order DIMM or SODIMM memory modules?

Also, is it possible for a client to easily make this themselvess by removing the panels without having to take the thing completely detached?

    http://www.Toshiba.co.UK/laptops/satellite/l50-b/satellite-l50-b-1DZ/

    standard: 4 096 (1 x) MB, RAM DDR3L (1 333 MHz)
    maximum extension: 8 192 MB
    technology: DDR3L (1 333 MHz) RAM

Appropriate advice or technical manual covering this would be great.
The on their site are too "basic" user guides

    Kind regards

    Peter B, UK

Well, the procedure for the RAM upgrade is a bit tricky. There is no RAM module Bay separated with easy access.

To access the free RAM slot, the plastic cover of the bottom must be removed.
You need to remove the ODD (optical disc) as well as the battery and next by the screws around the cover.

But remove the cover would mean that you would negate the warranty.

I put t know if you want to lose the warranty, I think that security is a very important fact which should be considered before performing this upgrade procedure.

  • Satellite L50 - A-1 DG - with the new SSD HARD drive replacement

    Satellite L50 - A - 1 DG

I would put my SSD in the PC and install win7 on it. But it does not work.

I try to put the SSD into the DVD rom adapter. It can not been recognized in the bios.

I tried to replace the SSD hard drive. Then the pc cannot start up. And I can't get into the bios or adjustment.

    Someone knows what's the problem?

    > I try to put the SSD into the DVD rom adapter. It can not been recognized in the bios.

This does not work with all models of laptops.
As far as I know that the laptop must support Slim Select Bay and the BIOS should also support this hardware option. But in your case, it doesn t.

One possible solution is the use of SOLID-STATE drive instead of the HARD disk.

You said that you are not able to access the BIOS after these updates.
Well, before you do this (a SSD drive connection) you should access the BIOS and must disable secure boot and must set the start mode MSC mode.

    The comments appreciated.
