"Standby" icon is gray while closing the system

Original title: Stanby grayed out icon

Hello

When closing down my office yesterday, I noticed that the 'Stand-by' icon is gray.  Don't know how this happened and as now have not been able to find a solution to the problem.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance, Philip

  • restart of the computer from standby when I press start on the system unit, but not when a scheduled task is started

Windows XP Professional SP3, updates, motherboard Asus P4P800 series (2006). The original system dates back to 2002, but there have been many additions and replacement upgrade. More recently, 2011, two old hard drives have been replaced (XP had destroyed itself requiring a reinstallation), with a much larger and HD, and the cpu has been replaced by a 3 GHz one.

I've configured the BIOS to enable the use of standby mode (standby). I wanted to be able to run scheduled backup jobs early in the morning, a little before I wake up normally. The goal was to conserve energy. Whenever I leave the computer for more than an hour or two, I put it in sleep mode. In recent years, that it worked well.

Scheduled tasks are still, in fact, more surely than ever. But now, when I press the Start button on the system unit, the operating system is restarted rather than restore the State of the system at the time of Eve. This happened almost constantly for maybe a week. I was always a guard never enter sleep mode when I'm aware of any application running who has not completed a requested operation (save a file, defragment a disk, etc.).

I searched on the basis of knowledge, but not found any problems like that. There has been no hardware changes, no new devices; only change of important software (but it is difficult to see how it might be relevant) was the resettlement of Java Runtime Environment 6.x to support the help of OpenOffice. Although I have not checked, I am reasonably sure that all drivers are up-to-date.

No idea why this should suddenly become a problem or how to fix?

  • Sound does not work on the computer and the volume icon does not appear in the system tray.

Original title: my sound icon has disappeared from the taskbar.  The Control Panel indicates the sound is on, but I can't hear anything.  What happened and how do I get my sound back?

Have a Toshiba laptop that always displays the lower icon audio in the right hand of the screen.  The sound icon has disappeared and I can't hear anything.  I check Contol Panel and sound, and he says it works and is turned up... but I can't hear a thing.  How can we retrieve icon of audio and how I can hear sound?

    Hello

    Thank you for your response.
I did a "System Restore" and the icon reappeared, and the sound now works.
I restarted the computer a couple of times, but that does not solve the problem.  Also, I went into the Panel and checked to see if the speakers were working and were lit, and they were.
It wasn't until I did the restore of the system that the icon reappeared and the noise began to work again.
    Thank you.

My volume button has disappeared from the lower toolbar.  I can't find where the volume can be controlled.  Any ideas?

    Hello

You can access the Volume control of the following location: %SystemRoot%\System32\SndVol.exe
Are you really sure that it is not visible in the status bar? Please, try the following methods and check if that helps
[1] method: Using the properties of the taskbar to configure the system icons
    • Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties
    • From the top, select the Area of Notification tab
    • Make sure the Volume is checked under system icons

[2] method: Using the registry editor to reset system icons
ATTENTION: It is recommended to create a System Restore Point or a backup of the registry before proceeding
    • In the start menu, search for: regedit
    • Right-click regedit and select run as administrator
    • In the right pane, navigate to the following key HKEY_CURRENT_USER Settings\
      Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    • Delete the following key under Windows\CurrentVersion: TrayNotify

    Screenshot: http://www.wincom7.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/registry-entry-image1-625x316.jpg

If the above could not show you the Volume control, please try the following
Method [3]: Creating a new user account
    • Open a user account by clicking on the button start , clicking Control Panel, clicking user accounts and family safety, and then clicking user accounts.
    • Click on manage another account.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    • Click on create a new account.

    • Type the name you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click on create an account.

    Thank you
    I hope this helps :)

  • labVIEW accidents while closing the VI

    Hi all

I feel a labVIEW crash every time I close my VI after the execution of it. What made the VI, it communicates with an Opal kelly edge in the okFrontPanel.dll and reads data and displays in the front panel. The vi works fine and I get the results as well. But after discontinuation of the vi, when I try to fill the vi, labVIEW crashes.

All the world is facing such a question? I would be grateful if someone can help me solve this problem.

    Thank you and best regards,
    Nitz

(PS: I'm not able to download the code due to restrictions and also it's a code long enough to create a vi sample to reproduce the scenario)

An accident is usually an indication that something inside the DLL is in contact with an area of memory which should not be in contact with. The fact that the VI works well is incidental. It seems that in this case the DLL touches something that is only affected when LV needs him during the closing of the VI. I think that the only thing you can do about it on the side BT is to ensure that you allocate big enough buffers for variable-length parameters used by the DLL. I guess you do not have access to the source code of the DLL?

  • Update icon is missing from the system tray

    Salvation Windows XP experts,

My "Automatic Updates" is set on "download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them", but several times I don't get the icon in the system tray, and it is until I want to shud down my laptop when I get the message "click on disable to install important updates and turn off your computer. , and if I work on the batteries, I don't even get this message. Sometimes I change my setting "Notify Me but don't automatically download or install" hoping that icon will appear, but it's not.

Recently, I have been informed of the 2 updates to download and agreed, but they got downloaded the icon has disappeared... and when I lock my PC, I got this message because I have new updates have been installed, I clicked on the button "turn off". I was surprised when I saw him on the screen saying 1 of 1 updates is being intalled! I pressed the power button until it exploded and then restarted, it, went into the folder Windows to know he was installing the single update, is not one of the 2 updates that I accepted on! What a f * ing system?

What can I do to see what updates will be installed on my PC?

    Thank you

    Hello

If I understand well, you have a little problem with the 'automatic update' - in particular with the notification in the system tray icon. The icon does not appear in the system status bar when updates are ready for instalation - does?

There is a similar but opposite problem - system "Auto update" displays the icon in the system tray – as they may be new updates installed, but the updated window does not update after clicking on the icon in the system tray:

    http://www.eggheadcafe.com/Microsoft/Windows-Update/29682120/Automatic-Update-icon-stay-on-system-tray.aspx

So, this has been resolved by removing the "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" directory "C:\WINDOWS" folder

(before deletion was stopped the service "Windows update").

    What you can try:

    (1) this Fix IT (full reset Windows Update components - including registration of libraries, to rename files ...)

    2) install the latest version of the Windows Update Agent (for good communication with the WWW of Windows update server)

    3) only recommend - install the latest IE (IE8) (Select language)
