status 0xc000014C

I booted up my laptop this morning and got the error message

Leader: Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc000014c

An error occurred trying to read the boot configuration data.

Hello

If you do not already have one, use another PC to create a rescue CD Windows 7 - this is not an installation disc, but gives you access to the windows recovery environment.

Your laptop is listed as coming up with a 64 bit version of Windows 7, download the ISO from the link below.

Windows 7 64 bit

You must use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn options)- hereis a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc.

One time created, or if you already have this, typing away at the esc key when you launch Notepad to open the Start Menu.  Insert the rescue CD.  Select boot options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and press ENTER.  You can also get a prompt to "Press any key to" continuous - it if requested.

When loading, select repair your computer and choose the command line.  When this charge, enter the following commands and press on enter after everyone – including spaces as shown.

Bootrec.exe

bcdedit/export C:\BCD_Backup

c:

Boot CD

BCD attrib s h - r

Ren c:\boot\bcd BCD.old

Bootrec /RebuildBcd

Bootrec /fixmbr

Bootrec /fixboot

Remove the rescue CD and try to restart the laptop.

Kind regards

    Hi ange.l,

    1. When did you start to question?

    2. do you rememeber to make changes to the computer before this problem?

3 have you tried booting in safe mode?

    Step 1:

You can try to start in safe mode and check if the problem occurs.

    Check out the link:

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If you are unable to boot into safe mode, then perform a startup repair

If you have startup repair as an option of recovering preinstalled on your computer, then you can try that. Otherwise, you need a disk for Installation of Windows Vista to perform the Startup Repair.

Startup Repair is designed to detect the operating system startup problems and troubleshoot all found and corrected with little user interaction.

  • 0xc000014c error at startup

    Hello

I have been using Windows Vista on my NET built office for a few years now but recently I had to force a shutdown after a crash of the game and the computer become unresponsive for a while.  I am now unable to boot and taken directly to the Windows boot manager with the following screen

    Windows Boot Manager

Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To solve the problem:

    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.

    2. choose your language settings, and then click "next".

    3. click on "Repair your computer."

If you do not have the disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

    File: \Windows\system32\config\system

    Status: 0xc000014c

Info: Windows could not load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt.

ENTER = continue ESC = exit

By pressing ENTER I am taken to Boot Options where all choices (Safe Mode) (last known Config etc) take me to the Windows Boot Manager initial screen and I can't get past the boot.  A large number of responses I've seen because that require you to connect through the safe mode and run a system restore which I am unable to do.

I have not a paper copy of the recovery disc I understand could help.  Is there a way to get your hands on a copy of it?  Nevertheless, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

    Hello

If you do not, use another PC to create a rescue CD Windows 7.  Download the ISO relevant among the links below.

    Windows 7 32 bit

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes before the show?
    2. who is the manufacturer of the system?

We checked for error "status: 0xc000014c ' and the troubleshooting step for this problem is to perform the Startup Repair by using the Vista DVD. To do this, follow the steps mentioned below:
    1. Insert the installation disc into the CD/DVD ROM.
    2. restart your computer.
    3. If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
    4. choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    5. click on repair your computer.
    6. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    7. in the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair can invite you to make choices as it tries to solve the problem, and if necessary, it may restart your computer, because it makes the repairs.
    8. once the Startup Repair tool is completed, remove the Vista DVD from the CD/DVD ROM and restart the computer as usual.

For more information about the Startup Repair, see this link:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/startup-repair-frequently-asked-questions

IMPORTANT: If the startup repair does not resolve the problem, you can choose "System Restore" Windows recovery environment and check the result.

If you do not have the Vista DVD, and then contact the manufacturer of the system for more support options.

    I hope this helps.
