  • ESXi and virtual machine CPU cores

The question I would ask is the ESXi processor cores and relationship of the virtual machine CPU. Is it recommended to assign some carrots to VM (this is assuming that the VM needs CPU extra for reasons of performance)? We will use the following example. If the host ESXi lies the VM has 40 cores of the processor is recommended to assign carrots in 2, 4, 8 format to the virtual machine? And that's okay assign 6 since 40 is not divisible by 6.

jrmunday: when it comes to carrots vs sockets, they are there for purpioses licenses, other than one vcpu is a vcpu

soda: each kernel is a vcpu, so you should not worry of the underlying hardware and the divisibbility... It is not a mathematical formula to be used on the basis of underlying archatecture. the only reason underlying archatecutre would be important is VCA differences, not the underlying differences.

  • Alert - the virtual machine CPU usage

A virtual computer that is running Windows 2000 reports almost every day an alert on "use of the processor of the virtual machine.

According to my knowledge, add a CPU to a Windows 2000 Server is not easy as with recent versions of Windows, is correct?

The 5.0 ESXi host is not CPU ovrloaded, so I don't think that adding a CPU reservation can change anything...

So, what is the best way to solve the problem with the minimum impact on the VM guwest?

I have a few virtual machines that use clients running very high on the CPU. Virtual machines are in a resource pool that has 200 000 mhz allocated with expandable reservation. Is it possible to give these machines more CPU cycles?

It doesn't sound like you are running in contention in this pool - if you have limits on the RP move them - one vCPU only working with unique pool - so if your base speed is 2950 and you use all cycles of the only way is to add an another vCPU

  • Steam Machine yellow flashing of death

I had steam i7 yesterday, and he has already stopped working. I've not owned a console for the Gamecube, and I don't know if I'm so excited about a new possession since the 1990s, if I'm kind of upset by the present.

First time I lit it upward, it worked fine. Download some updates, began the game download, then I hit the power button. It installed some updates and turns off.

Second time, the yellow power flashed light in sets of five flashes. I couldn't find much about what it means, but someone suggested to do a drain of energy, so I did. It worked and I downloaded a game, another download started and played the first match for a while.

Third time, I lit it, it worked fine. I started it on another download, turned off the TV, and I went to work, hoping that this would be done when I'm home.

When I got home, it was off. A little painful at first, but I found it turned off my roommate, assuming that I left it on by accident. I then tried to turn it on, but received the yellow light blinking in sets of five times. I tried a drain of power a few times with no luck. I took the power supply out of the surge protector and plugged directly in wall, and who has not helped either.

What does it mean when it flashes on sets of five? What could I do to fix this?

    Hello

Five lightning could indicate a lack of CMOS battery, or a motherboard failure. It may be better to send to its repair center to diagnose and repair the problem. For help to do this, send me a PM with your serial number.

  • High using the Virtuakbox virtual machine CPU load

I have a MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz processor dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz) with 3 MB L3 cache.

I use VMware Fusion Pro 7.0.1 (2235595) to install and use Windows 8 to run the Simulator on my MacBook internetworking solution.

These simulators come with Oracle VM VirtualBox and they used to run in the Windows virtual machine on my MacBook Pro with no problems.

    So far, no problem!

However, after upgrading to OS X Yosmite 10.10.1 simulators no longer work due to the high utilization of the processor by VBoxHeadless.exe

I deleted the virtual machine, I uninstalled VMware Fusion and reinstalled, then reinstalled the Windows operating system, makes all the possible update and finally installed solutions simulators without success to have any Simulator market, they used. The reason is always high utilization of the processor by VBoxHeadless.exe as seen in the following images:

    2014-11-20_11-38-20.png2014-11-20_11-39-34.png

I then moved to bootcamp and all do it again. Now simulators all run as before but on windows on the bootcamp partition.  Now I can even run a lot of devices in simulators like in the following photos with no problems:

    20141119_194835.jpg

    20141119_194908.jpg

Please, do you know how I can fix this problem? I prefer to use VMware fusion because it gives me more room for what I want to achieve compared to the bootcamp.

There is a difference between the hosts with regard to the information provided by windows on the ability of the virtualization of the MacBook.

I thank very you much in advance!

Your problem unfortunately was not something that other people recognized as a problem they had seen or they simply didn't have the time to answer.

The majority of the Fusion users will not also have installed VirtualBox.

However, I am glad to hear that you found a solution (in a restaurant) and please let us know.

  • You try to run a report to view the comments of the CPU usage in vFoglight 6.0

I am trying to run a report to view the comments of the CPU in vFoglight 6.0 usage, as I have a couple of VMs that seem to cause problems. I want to see what that levels of CPU for a while inside the virtual machines, but I only seem to be able to find the data in the reports for the use of the host processor.
    Any help is welcome

If you want to use canned reports, which I think will work for what you ask, there is a pre-built for you.
Home > reports > report > select the right model under all report templates ("using the virtual machine CPU and time ready" looks like the report that you want to")
for the service should work the vCenter. This will send you all the hosts and any use of the VMs UC over what period you set (default is 4).

  • Implementation of a simple alert high CPU in vFoglight

Implementation of a simple CPU alert for VMS alert when the CPU is greater than 95%. I use the syntax is the following:

    If (> 95 #cpuUtilization #)

    otherwise return false;

Get the following error when I run the query:

Is there another variable (#cpuUtilization #) I need to use for the use of the processor.

You try to set an alert on the virutal machine CPU usage? Is there a problem with the release of the Inbox rule?

It is a rule for this 'Virtual Machine CPU Utilization VMW"and you can change the threshold. It is in the form of variables (VMW:virtualMachineCPU.warning, VMW:virtualMachineCPU.critical) if yo uare not happy with the settings.

The rule checks usage under $scope.hostCPUs

  • compare the value of loan to a virtual machine: vRops vs. vCenter

    Hello

during the analysis of the values of a virtual machine cpu, I noticed value "ready" is not too much to skip between vCenter and a report of vRops.

After watching a few reports more it turns out that the value of ready in the vRops report appear to be much higher than in vCenter.

I made two screenshots that should tell more than any explanation.

I misread the values? Any ideas?

    People,

I'm about to deploy new features of Windows Server 2008 R2 (Remote Desktop Session Host / RDSH) virtual machines to support 50 + a simultaneous RDP access.

To control the virtual machine CPU / MMU may be a good idea to boost performance?

Here is the setting that I mention that I left by default, but don't know which option to click to enable console vSphere:

    MMU.JPG

do I need to restart the virtual machine to change the option greater than the background value or something else?

and also, it's the model of VMhost CPU type:

    CPU.JPG

any kind of comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Assuming that AMD - V is enabled in the BIOS of your host, the automatic setting for Windows Server 2008 R2 on your CPU will be AMD - V with IVR.  In most cases, this will give you the best performance.  However, for young LBR is much more expensive with IVR with shadow paging.  If your workload is a TLB buster, you might want to switch to AMD - V with shadow paging.  On the other hand, the page table updates are much more expensive with pagination shadow with IVR.  Thus, even if your workload is a TLB buster, it might be better to use IVR if your workload also has a high frequency of updates of page table.

Binary translation is rarely a victory.  However, there are rare cases, such as the work of Windows XP 32-bit workloads that rub on the TPR, where the binary translation surpasses hardware-assisted virtualization.

The only way to be sure that you have selected the best mode is all benchmarks.

Yes, you don't have to restart the virtual machine to change the execution mode.

    Hello

We meet a few the next problem with an Ubuntu VM:

The virtual machine has 8 vCPU (increased from 2 Sockets with 4-core to 8 outlets with a carrot) and the latest VMware tools installed. Even if there is a lot of load on this system, the virtual machine seems to use about 25% to 50% of CPU capacity. The return of the command vmstat 1 during this time is:

    user: 28%

    system: 4%

    inactive: 78%

    wait: 0%

VCenter statistics shows a spike on the CPU load, but epi only climbs and rest between 25 and 50 percent or a maximum use of 7 309 MHz (about 16,000).

Since a thread can use 100% of a vCPU it may be a problem of thread on your application.

You should look at the use of the individual processor instead of overall consumption.

Lets say that the application can use only 1 wire but it uses 100%, this means that it will use to 12.5% of the total cpu resources allocated to this virtual machine. (100/8)

  • Poor performance of the processor of the virtual machine

    Hello

We have an esxi Server 5. Theres only one virtual machine running. It is A SBS 2008. The server is slow, it seems to depend on the CPU (XEON 5502 2 cores with hyperthreading) use. The windows Task Manager shows the use of 60 to 75% most of the time and often 100%.

But the performance vmware (vsphere) table shows only 20% up to 60%, although the vitrual machine CPU resource reservation is high and unlimited. Is it possible, to give the virutal machine more CPU power?

It seems that your processor has no hyperthreading.  Specifications Intel http://ark.intel.com/products/37092/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5502-4M-Cache-1_86-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI

With all four cores assigned to a single virtual machine probably causes CPU performance issues.  Have you checked the CPU Read values?  If you see more 1000msec by vCPU, you can expect performance degradation.

Chaning the VM from four to one or two vCPUs shouldn't be a problem, unless you have software running which consumes a lot of time processor.  I ran SBS2011 on a single vCPU with no problems.
