Stop Search Suggestions in the awesome bar

Google is my default search engine. I followed the instructions to disable Search Suggestions in Firefox 13. Unfortunately, this seems to work if I search from the search bar. If I am looking in the awesome bar, that I prefer, search suggestions are always displayed. Prevent search suggestions from the Awesome Bar as well? I can do this in Google Chrome - please tell me I can do it in Firefox!

The way to do it in Chrome is enter the following URL in your default search engine:

https://www.Google.com/search?hl=en & full = 0 & site = webhp & q = %s & btnK = Google + Search

I don't see a way to do this in Firefox 13. BTW, the above URL also prevents Google Autocomplete and Google instant.

OK, thanks for the clarification - you can enter Subject: config in the locationbar and search for the preference named keyword.url. DoubleClick and assign https://www.google.com/search?hl=en & full = 0 & site = webhp & q = - this should also redirect searches from the address bar of firefox version of google without suggestions.

  • How can I turn off default 1 search result in the awesome bar?

Since the release of 43, it seems that the Awesome bar fills the first result as a generic 'visit' or 'Search' for anything typed in the bar. It's very frustrating because I know where I want to go, and my search history used to fill specific sites, I went to. This new feature to the Awesome Bar takes you is a generic search engine default search, or right on the first page for a specific site.

For example, it may be a forum page that I regularly to. and in the latest Firefox would fill this page first in my results, which allows a fast navigation. However, the most recent update makes it do that the first result is a query to perform a generic search for what I typed in, or at best to take me to the first page of the site in question, make me have to either type the URL complete, favorite every page ever, I want to navigate to and just use bookmarks now or , or cross my fingers and pray that they default 1 result in the Awesome bar accurately reflects my wishes of navigation (which he never does).

    Is it possible to either:

    1. find the process that causes this 1 default result in the Awesome bar and disable/delete, preferably with extreme prejudice.

2 prevent the features of Firefox that interacts with a browser default search?

In its current form, I deliberately ignore the 1st result of the Awesome Bar, because it never fulfills what I want. Specifically, it will fill never I don't want things.

    Hi Danon72.

To disable the 'Visit' item in the list, please edit the preference browser.urlbar.unifiedcomplete in The editor of Configuration of Firefox to false.

  • How can I stop Firefox giving search suggestions in the address bar?

From the last update, if I start typing something in the address bar, I get random search suggestions as if I was using the search instead. How can I disable this? It is kind of annoying, and it really bothers me. I read in another article that I went to about: config and checked "I'll be careful", it would stop, but I'm worried it may screw up my browser. Is there another way to solve this problem? Or do I just move a superior browser?

No it won't cause other problems as long as you do not change other preferences.

  • Why I can't delete Yahoo search suggestions in the navigation bar? How can I remove the DNS of Yahoo error page?

Maybe that's two questions. Both pooped upward with a recent update. I do not have yahoo extensions or add-ons installed.

    (a) I type a URL in the navigation bar (NOT the search box), and all of these 'useful' pop-up suggestions. Do stop.

    (b) I type wrong address in the navigation bar (NOT the search box) and I get a Yahoo to "links" page Do stop.

Thank you. I have the screenshots I can post too.

Found the solution. It's an add-on: uTorrentControl3 by conduit. I've disabled to check and uninstalled then when I saw it was the question.

Today, the address bar suddenly showed 12 sites when I start typing characters in there.
So far, he has always shown 4.

  • I want to delete search suggestions in the drop down menu in the address bar. I don't have swagbucks - is there another solution?

I want to keep my bookmarks/history in the address bar, but delete the search suggestions that appear. These suggestions have barely started to appear last week, and they are boring and useless! Previous solutions have said that this is related to the swagbucks, but I have this installed (and don't know what it is). How can I remove the search suggestions, but keep my history and bookmarks?

Make sure that you use the address bar and not the search bar.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.

  • I want to delete search suggestions in the drop down menu in the address bar.

I've just updated Firefox to 22.0 and now when I type something in the address bar, the menu drop-down displays search suggestions. I used to be able to type a letter or two from the site that I wanted to go to and just press enter and Firefox automatically I would have it if it was the first thing on the list. However, now it is more complicated because the search suggestions appear as well as elements in my story. Is there a way to delete these suggests research?

I had the same problem. If you have not installed, the toolbar for swagbucks what you need to do is to click on the arrow to the right of the swagbucks icon and go to the "toolbar options". Under Advanced settings, there will be an option that says 'enable search suggestions in the address bar '. Make sure it is not selected, and your problem should be solved.

  • I don't get the Awesome Bar suggestions...

If I type something in the awesome bar, it is not give suggestions. I tried safe mode, but no change...

I use Firefox 4.0.1 but I also had the problem with 4.0 and 5.0 (beta).
    I use Windows 7 (64-bit).

Disable "AVG Safe Search", it causes problems of location bar as the ability to use 'Enter' can be a symptom of many other problems such as accidents and crashes. It is listed in the extensions problematic - MozillaZine Knowledge Base , and it must be stuck in the block list. You must follow the instructions to reinstall "AVG Free" without the "Link Scanner" component so that it will not continue to be a problem with the new profiles or new versions of Firefox. Compensation for the "AVG" antivirus version has an option to disable the 'feature '.

Don't know if that will solve your problem, but try it first.

Safe mode would have stopped the extension so it's not the immediate problem.

However, it is a mainly managed by the community support forum, probably isn't the right place to report bugs (we are unable to implement all the features & devs read here).

  • How can I get the Awesome Bar Google search parameters?

For example: if I type "site:support.mozilla.org browser" in Google or even some new-tab for Firefox addons, I get a page with the Google search results on this site for that keyword. If I type the same line in the "Awesome Bar", I get an error page.

I would like different settings of Google search through when you use the address bar to search.

This should work if you type search terms and additional parameters such as site:xxx.com at the end.

  • Search engine of change in the Awesome Bar to IxQuick

How can I change the search engine in the bar of the impressive Ixquick? Here's the IxQuick search engine Web site. https://Ixquick.com/
I know how to change the search engine I do not know what URL to use to replace the awesome bar search engine IxQuick.

When I change the settings of IxQuick to 'GET' (turn off 'POST') the search for firefox URL looks like this (all one line):

    https://Ixquick.com/do/search?Lui=English & Language = English & cat = Web & query = Firefox

To set the keyword. URL, make sure that the URL ends with query = and Firefox will add your search terms on the end.

    It work?

  • STILL not able to stop Search Suggestions

This follows a previous question, I asked to Stop the search in the Awesome bar Suggestions. The solution presented in this issue, worked for awhile, but now the ugly problem is back.

I made turn off Search Suggestions for Google search (indeed, for all the included search engines), and I inserted the URL described in the response. It's not good - search Suggestions are back.

I am able to disable Search Suggestions in Google Chrome. I am also able to disable Google instant, something that I'm not (yet) in Firefox.

Problem finally solved by choosing "when Firefox starts: display a blank page" my homepage setting in about: vacuum.

When Firefox starts, or when I go to my homepage or when I open a new tab, I enter my search term the Awesome bar. (No other place to go). The research opens at the following URI:

    https://www.Google.com/search?hl=en & full = 0 & site = webhp & q = [search term]

Now, I can type a new term in the area of own Google search with no search for search suggestions. The resulting URL is:

    https://www.Google.com/search?hl=en & full = 0 & site = webhp & q = [new keyword] & [long string of code]

Of course, this means I must renounce fancy new Home Page of FF 13, but I can live with that.

I should add that this is not a Firefox problem in itself. It's really on the way to thwart Google.
