Stop Vista event ID 6008 for the Sims 2

I got Vista 64 Home Premium since 10/2009 and no problems until June 29, 2010.  I've been running the Sims 2 since 10/2009, but from June 29, when playing the game, the computer will randomly turned off completely.  No BSOD, no warning.  I've updated my video card drivers, but that did not improve the situation.  I checked the event viewer and get the event ID 6008, "shutdown system before at (time) on (date) was not planned."  No other error messages, no BSOD.

The computer feels hot to the touch, it's a gateway LX6810-01 running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 - bit with Service Pack 2.  I ran the Sims 2 hours at a time before (for the last few months, usually 2-4 hours a day, much more the weekend) with no problems, but now sometimes the computer stops while the game is load again, sometimes I can get some time in French - the longest so far is 3 hours.  I can't think of what's happening in the game that could cause this, especially in the loading or menu screens.

ETA: I have not changed/downloaded/installed anything for the Sims 2 between the moment where he would not plant and the time that he began to be crush/cause the computer to stop.

6008 error means that you have had an unexpected shutdown.

Method 1.

    I bought a new pc (HP Pavilion i-5 kernel, Geforece 640, x 11 direct, family basic of windows OEM...) to play the Sims 3, because I was sick of having problems with the game (slow, freezing...). I started playing the Sims 3 (pc features far beyond the requirements of game). In a few weeks the game has begun to slow down low/freezing. Experts (EA) game told me that the problem might be in the version of Windows and if I install Windows Professional instead of Home basic the problem might disappear. Before I have to spend money (because I don't really have the professional version, I'm fine with, I), I wanted to just listen to an expert: the version of Windows (Home/Professional) really affect the game? Please note that the game automatically installs patches/updates from time to time. And I also keep my basic family Windows updated.

    I have a question for the computer.  I have a HP Pavilion Elite m9040n who has Windows Vista 32 - bit SP2 with 3 GB of memory.  From what I've been able to determine, the 32-bit version doesn't recognize up to 3.5 GB of memory and I need to install the 64 bit version of Windows Vista for additional memory can be installed AND recognized.  This system comes with the Core 2 Quad Q6600 (K) 2.4 GHz, at 1 066 MHz front side BUS and Socket 775.

    My question - would be upgrade to Windows Vista 64-bit and install another 4 GB for a total of 7 GB of extra memory for increased game performance.  Also, I have a graphics program which because of some image sizes (up to 96 inches - 19200 pixel everywhere) program that the bombs on me with "out of memory" messages.  I play World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 right now.

    You do know that Windows Vista is not official on the market.
    It is not possible to buy a full working properly vista OS at this time.
    I think that if Vista will be made official and Toshiba will support this OS you'll find drivers on the Toshiba site. But right now there's nothing to do.

    I found the answer.  Windows Movie Maker is no longer supported.  The new version is Windows Live Movie Maker, and it has all the appropriate codecs.  Download that and you're good!

    WMM is trash but it can not be uninstalled from the PC.  Just ignore it and use WLMM.

    Did you download the right drivers for the right series of notebook?
    Satellite P100 - 10 p belongs to the PSPAGE series.

    I think you should double-check the Toshiba forum page and be sure that you have downloaded and installed all the drivers available at 100%!

    I think you should check if you have also installed the Texas Instruments Flash Media driver.

    Well, my problem is with the Sims 3. I can play the game for the first 5 minutes fine, but then it will randomly be out bug. The game will close and open and eventually gets stuck on a black screen. Because it freezes I have to force my laptop to stop.
