Stop Windows Update restart without my permission
On my laptop and PC (both vista), whenever he does occasionally after the download and installation, windows update, it automatically restarts without warning or permission. How can I do seek approval to restart.
I don't mind my pc auto update, but I don't want to reboot without warning me, because it stops while I am in the middle of a program and I lose my job.
The next option in settings should automatically download but if you need to install. Y at - it an option to download, install, but does not restart until I'm ready?
Thank you
Chris

How can I stop Windows Update restart my computer in Windows 7 Home Premium?
While I don't mind Windows Update automatically updates from my PC, view it force a reboot when I am connected causes a problem. I currently have WU configured to perform updates to 03:00, and when it's over, if to do a reboot, I'm not here to tell him to wait. I'd rather leave time settings as they are and simply disable the auto restart, opting instead for WU to let me know that he needs to restart the PC. I found ways to do this on XP and Vista, including registry changes and changes to group policy. However, the registry is obviously a little different, so the keys do not exist compared to what I found, and since I am running Home Premium I have no gpedit.
Where in the registry can I make a change so I do not data lost when WU resets my computer at night?
Another way to do it without hacking the registry, which can be scary for some users), is to follow the instructions on the following Web site:
http://weblogs.ASP.NET/jgalloway/archive/2006/02/11/438009.aspx
I stuck in the main rooms, in the cases where the link is dead (but not nice photo well):
- Click Start-> Run (or Vista and 7 just press the windows ORB)
- Type: gpedit.msc
- Expand Local computer policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update
- Double-click on "to demand no auto restart for automatic updates installations".
- Select 'Active', then OK. Close the group policy configuration program.
This should stop it autorestarting.

Can I request a refund for Windows 8 and money for the time lost due to the automatic restart of Windows? What is the problem with Microsoft Developers? How can I cancel this auto reboot forever? Yes I know... I want an another reply to try Linux or Apple ;-)
I think you mean auto restart caused by Windows Update (for complete installation of updates), not just a random restart after error on the computer, such as described Shakur S23 .
If Windows Update does, I think that the best thing to do is to change the update settings. Open the control panel and go to the system and security > Windows Update. Then click on "change settings" on the left panel. Finally, select "Download updates but let me choose whether to install" under important updates and click OK. Now that you have changed this setting, don't completely ignore updates. It is not recommended to select 'never check updates' this option will set your PC at risk vulnerabilities unpatched in the future as more are discovered.
I hope this helps.

Windows Update often wants to restart the computer after an update. If you say "not now" (or ignore?), he will later pop up a question "reboot now?" in a bubble of task bar. INCREDIBLY, it will at that time take keyboard focus of everything that happens and then accept what he gets as a response from the user. This means that if the user was in the middle of typing something, the following sequence of keys will enter the bubble "you want to restart" instead of some request the user was in the middle of the help. It's very bad.
Here is what just happened to me. I was in the middle of typing a document when the keyboard focus was suddenly taken by the issue of recovery, a fraction of a second later, the following combination of keys, he disappeared - I have no idea what hit it. Fortunately, I saw the flash and guess what had happened and quickly you press 'save' on my request. A few seconds later, my application has been closed as the machine restarted.
I think that the bubble of Windows Update SHOULD NOT STEAL the KEYBOARD FOCUS. I think it's dangerous and bad design.
What is the best way to communicate this suggestion to the team of Windows Update?
Is there a setting to stop Windows Update to do this? (Stop stealing keyboard focus)
I use Vista Home Premium
I'm looking for a Microsoft solution for the specific problem I described, and/or advice on where post for better attention to Microsoft to "design problem".
None of us are obstruction you. If we knew a way to avoid this problem (problem), we would have mentioned it earlier in this thread.
You aren't the first person to complain about this and I'm sure you won't be the last. According to Microsoft, you have two options:
1 use an automatic updates setting other Automatic (for example, download updates but let me choose whether to install them). or...
2. turn off the automatic updates and get your updates manually (which I don't recommend).

How to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted win7 upgrade to win 10
Can someone tell me how to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted Win 7 upgrade to win 10.
Currently, I have 50 + 'important' updates pending and 3 updates "optional" (which one is ranked 10 Windows), but even with 10 Windows Update is not selected and the value "hide this update" the only option shown in Windows Update is upgrading to Windows 10.
Any attempt to install ONE of the other Win 7 or MS Office updates translates into Windows Update, saying that it is downloading Windows 10.
I would like to install updates Windows 7 (and MS Office), but given the way that Microsoft has put on several occasions customers for a forced update to win 10, I'd really rather not count on leave install Win 10 and just hope that the 'Roll Back' option really works without leaving me right where I am now.

Try to upgrade to Windows Windows 7 problem 10 of "Windows Update restart."
Hello community,
I have a pretty annoying problem with trying to upgrade to windows 10 and windows update.
I reserved my copy for Windows 10 and on some occasions, it prompted me to start the upgrade. Then it returns me to my Windows Update program and the message reads.
Restart your computer to install important updates
Windows cannot update services and important files while the system uses them. Save all the files and restart the computer, and then try to check for the updates.
Restart the PC does nothing and the same message applies.
I tried to stop the update of Windows and the BITS service and the deleted software distribution folder, and then by restarting the services. Which does nothing and I'm back to the same situation.
Any ideas? I am tech savvy but not extremely.

HP Envy X 2: win 8 notebook refreshed with erasure of data, Windows updates restart loop
I have a laptop hp envy x 2 convertible. I just did a refresh with erasure of data for preparation of the laptop for sale. I'm trying to upgrade to 8.1 Windows so I can get the opinion of Windows 10 reserve (already booked before wiping, but I want to make sure it stuck) and I have a problem with the Windows updates.
I did the first round of Windows updates and rebooted. Now whenever I go to check the additional updates, it tells me to restart. I restarted my computer 5 times Yes and I still get the same message. It does not seem to do anything with the updates on reboot. How can I fix?Hi, thanks for the response. This problem is actually solved to him alone this weekend. When I went the power options, there is an option "to update and restart." Once I chose this option instead of "restart now" from the screen of Windows updates, it installed updates and I have not had any more problems.

Windows 7 64 - Bit Windows Update, restart error
Hello!
I have recently bought a new laptop and immediately started my Windows Update. At some point to complete the installation, I was required to restart, I did. When Windows is booting (before it shows me the logon screen), there was a message that says something like 'install updates x x (somefilename)', so I let him
But when I come back a little later, I saw a message that says that the updates have failed and it is changes in recovery, after which it restarts again. When I finally get into Windows, I checked update history and saw that there were only 2 updates failed (others have done), so I manually downloaded those updates that has installed then fine.
My question would be, so my laptop updated correctly? Should I believe what is said in the history of the update or should I study why my updates failed, and what were the changes came back?
I am fairly new to Windows 7, after using Windows XP for quite a long time. Any help is appreciated
If Windows Update (in Control Panel) now says that no other updates are required, everything is OK.
