Stop windows update to install Nvidia driver version 52.16

Hello

Recently, I upgraded the PC of my father to WinXP SP3. It is an old DELL Dimension of 11 years. After installation there is a nagging question that won't stop.

Windows Update keeps trying to install the following:

MICROSOFT VIDEO NVIDIA GEFORCE 4 MX 420

NVIDIA driver version 52.16

This update is not necessary for the monitor to run.

So far, my difficulty was to start in safe mode and back the driver.

Windows Update repeatedly installed this driver. I have

detailed instructions on how to block this specific update to settle here.

Thank you

Dwayne Boyd

To hide an update in Windows XP, just go to the Windows Update site and uncheck the update and click on the + sign next to it. At the bottom of the explanation expanded the update the checkbox to hide this update become active and can be selected, thus masking the update.

Then, you need to remove the update from the temporary folder:

Stop the automatic updates service

Click Start, choose run.
In the run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the automatic updates service.
Click on stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the content of the download folder
Click Start. Choose run.
In the run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Open the download folder.
Delete all the contents of the download folder.
Close the window.

Start the automatic updates service
Click Start. Choose run.
In the run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the automatic updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

By removing the contents of the download folder - you have removed all downloaded
updates.

Now, the next step would be to configure Windows Update in order to warn only rather than automatically download and install updates. In this way, you stay in control.

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/306525

Click Start, click run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER.

Click the automatic updates tab, and then click to select an Notify me but don't automatically download or install

I hope this helps.

  • How to stop Windows Update to take keyboard focus, when you are asked "do you want to restart now?

Windows Update often wants to restart the computer after an update.  If you say "not now" (or ignore?), he will later pop up a question "reboot now?" in a bubble of task bar.  INCREDIBLY, it will at that time take keyboard focus of everything that happens and then accept what he gets as a response from the user.  This means that if the user was in the middle of typing something, the following sequence of keys will enter the bubble "you want to restart" instead of some request the user was in the middle of the help.  It's very bad.

Here is what just happened to me.  I was in the middle of typing a document when the keyboard focus was suddenly taken by the issue of recovery, a fraction of a second later, the following combination of keys, he disappeared - I have no idea what hit it.  Fortunately, I saw the flash and guess what had happened and quickly you press 'save' on my request.  A few seconds later, my application has been closed as the machine restarted.

I think that the bubble of Windows Update SHOULD NOT STEAL the KEYBOARD FOCUS.  I think it's dangerous and bad design.

What is the best way to communicate this suggestion to the team of Windows Update?

You aren't the first person to complain about this and I'm sure you won't be the last. According to Microsoft, you have two options:

1 use an automatic updates setting other Automatic (for example, download updates but let me choose whether to install them). or...

    2. turn off the automatic updates and get your updates manually (which I don't recommend).

    Hello

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         What is the full error message?

    Follow the steps.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable the antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network at the time the anti-virus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot state to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    (e) when you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Method 3: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

  • How to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted win7 upgrade to win 10

Can someone tell me how to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted Win 7 upgrade to win 10.

Currently, I have 50 + 'important' updates pending and 3 updates "optional" (which one is ranked 10 Windows), but even with 10 Windows Update is not selected and the value "hide this update" the only option shown in Windows Update is upgrading to Windows 10.

Any attempt to install ONE of the other Win 7 or MS Office updates translates into Windows Update, saying that it is downloading Windows 10.

I would like to install updates Windows 7 (and MS Office), but given the way that Microsoft has put on several occasions customers for a forced update to win 10, I'd really rather not count on leave install Win 10 and just hope that the 'Roll Back' option really works without leaving me right where I am now.

  • Windows Update includes the Toshiba driver updates?

    Hello

Windows Update includes the Toshiba driver updates?

And if yes, do you know what drivers are included in Windows Update and that would be excluded?

    Thank you...

    Hello

Microsoft and Toshiba updates are two different things.
Toshiba drivers are offered by Toshiba, and these drivers are tested by Toshiba. Toshiba has developed a small tool called TEMPRO. This tool runs in the background and look for information on available updates.
All updates of drivers, tools and utilities does not update automatically. It can be done by the owner of the laptop. TEMPRO just pick up info on the net and to inform the owner of the laptop.

Microsoft updates are probably known to you. These updates are Microsoft and Toshiba has no influence on this.
When you check the list of available updates may have included updates to the WLAN/LAN card, driver of the touchpad and device ACPI Toshiba x 64. This is defined as optional updates and cannot be updated.

To be honest you should not update at all. For hardware use drivers provided by Toshiba only.

Do you have other accounts of users on this PC?  If you install this update from the main account?

You should get the number of the update of the updated history list and then download the file here: Microsoft downloads.
If sure that nothing else is running, and then install the update manually.  Give it a try and let us know the results.
